Grace in the Kitchen is a kitchenware and gourmet foods store in Kanata. I went in in search of some scones because I was served some of their scones at my in-laws and they were delicious, but I went on a Friday and was told they only have them on the weekends :( I browsed around and they have lots of cool products, but they are pricey. They do have a clearance section towards the back of the store, but most of the stuff there was actually past its best before date. If you love gourmet stinky cheeses, they had lots! As for me, I'll just stick to brie, harvati and other benign to the nose cheeses thank you very much ;) Fun store to poke around. Lots of free parking. read more

This place is awesome! I have never been in before, although my husband was in over the holidays (lucky me was the recipient!) What an awesome shop! And HUGE!! They have everything an upscale kitchen could need - from the tools to the groceries, including (but not limited to) spices - right down the pepper and salt mills, cheeses, chips, dishes, pots and pans, and top end coffee makers. I will definitely be back to try out the coffee shop in the corner. You need the rest that refreshes (coffee) after a stroll through this shop. What was I waiting for?? They had some very good sales - leftovers from Christmas. I picked up a mug for myself (which had the design of a scarf and mittens. What can I say? I'm a knitter!) and one of those stoneware cookie molds which came with a recipe. This was on sale at a good price; I've seen it at double that elsewhere in the city. Did you know that there's a difference in the mechanisms of a pepper and salt mills? Apparently the salt can rust and corrode a pepper mill, and the pepper is too hard for a salt mill. Whodathunk?! I actually went in looking for coffee pots. The ones we have at work have been seriously used and abused. I'm also feeling the need for an espresso or latté machine, and was hoping I might find one of those nifty combo things here. Turns out that the design I'm thinking of is a bit passé. Too bad for me! However, the good coffee makers they have here are too good for work (read: expensive), and could almost be professional, like for coffee shops. So, I will have to keep shopping. Yum. Having mobility problems, I placed an order with Grace in the Kitchen, not realizing that they offer only curbside pickup, not delivery. After some days I called to see why my product had not arrived. The young lady who answered the phone actually delivered the order to my house, on her own time, after leaving work. Every time I go to Serious Cheese to buy cheese to satisfy the random cheese cravings, I have to browse around here as well. The variety is stunning, and there are always sale items! I found a flavour of the Bottle Green drinks that other stories don't carry, which was mango coconut, and it was amazing! It was only sold in a small bottle, and I wish it could be sold in a big one! Overall: really fun store to browse! Items can be pricy, but you are paying for quality! read more

Grace In The Kitchen, everyone refers to this store as the ultimate kitchen store in Ottawa, and people are 100% right. Whenever you walk in there you need to make sure you are ready to spend some serious coin, you just cannot resist the temptation, honestly it's just not possible to walk in and not come out with a few dozen items. However, I go to Grace In The Kitchen as often as I can, not for the gadgets or the food items. I go for the coffee, yup! Kanata's best kept secret, the coffee bar. They have a serious coffee machine, top of the line and it delivers an absolutely amazing espresso or just about any coffee they pull from the machine. Not to mention that they use one of the top brands of coffee on the market by Intelligentsia. Both the owners and the staff serving you the coffee are well informed baristas. If they pull a coffee and they don't like how it looks, they through it away and pull another, unlike a lot of coffee places that just pull the coffee and slap it on the counter for you to drink, good or bad. That to me is how a coffee should be served. My favourite of the house is their Cubano, not a coffee blend but a coffee process. They add one scoop of coffee, mix a small amount of sugar and then add the next scoop of coffee. Then they pull the coffee and WOW what an amazing coffee. The staff at Grace In The Kitchen take their time to explain why the do what they do and for a coffee snob like me, it s nice to see someone behind the counter who is well informed and takes their coffee seriously. read more

I actually can't beleive that i haven't reviewed this place yet - truly a wicked little foodie shop tucked away in Kanata. It's a nice, little clean shop that has great fresh pastry's and a coffee bar, truly one of the best cheese shops in otttawa. The back of the store features are large bank of coolers and freezers - lots of Gluten free items and a number of precooked meals.......you gotta try the mac and cheese - it's cha ching, but omg, it's good. The appliance and cookery section is fantastic with all the latest toys including Sous Vide Supreme's and the Molecule R lineup. In terms of telephone customer service over the phone, one of the poorest experiences. Same woman every time. Five times now over course of a year or so. Rude, dismissive, no common courtesy whatsoever. Only thing I can say is, she is consistent...and that's not a good thing. Products and foods and store wonderful..in store customer service good. We've always loved going to Grace in the kitchen and we usually find what we're looking for and a go to for finding unique gifts. The old shop was smaller but cozy and friendly. The new store in Kanata has a totally different vibe, more mainstream and definitely less friendly. We were met at he entrance by security guard who followed us closely (we were the only people in the store). Touching things seemed to be against the rules. A clerk tried to pry my purse away because she thought at first it was a large tote (which it certainly wasn'). She apologized profusely but the whole experience was upsetting. We won't be going back anytime soon! read more

I was at this store today, I love it what a fantastic selection they have, you name it for your kitchen they have it. Every kitchen gadget you can imagine. And their coffee & sweets cafe is to die for, oh my those desserts are heavenly. My favourite "kitchen" place was IKEA but now since I've discovered Grace this is my new "kitchen gadget etc" place to shop. So come on people --go for a visit you will this place. read more

Like Jason D., I also walked by this place dozens of times, but never paid it much attention. I finally went in today as I was doing some Christmas shopping and I found a secret gold mine of Art-is-in-Bakery bread, cheese, spices, fine chocolate, frozen pre-made meals and other specialty foods. Especially since the Fresh Fruit Company closed in Old Ottawa South, I think this would be a welcomed resource for people with a refined taste, or who may just be entertaining that evening. Of course, Grace in the Kitchen has lots of kitchen supplies. Possibly whatever you're looking for since the store is fairly big. They have cookware, bakeware, barware, cleaning products, electrics, environmentally friendly products, espresso machines, flatware, gadgets, giftware, knives, stainless steel kitchen doodads, teapots, coffee pots, tablewear and thermometres. Since the list I just constructed was in alphabetical order, clearly I had to resort to the store's website to remember everything I saw today. Love Grace in the Kitchen! If you love cheese or want interesting cheese to try, head here. They also have great foodie items like amazing balsamic and really good olive oils, along with a tonne of other specialty items you won't find at the grocery store. The also offer high quality kitchen ware. And if you hit the sales, you can get good prices. Great place to buy gifts for foodies or cooks. And they do a great job sharpening knives. Great selection of kitchen stuff BUT... I've been buying a specific flavour of peppercorn here and today I find that they've underhandedly slipped in a 33% price increase on them by reducing the contents of the packages dramatically but keeping the price as it was. Great way to show you don't respect your customers! At least be honest about your price increases, don't try to camouflage them this way. read more

Mark up is ridiculous. I never write reviews, but I had to after my experience. I purchased a Browne & Co. 7" non-stick pan for $28.50 at Grace In The Kitchen and the same exact pan is $12.63 on Amazon.ca. I also purchased some double cream there for $9.40, which, when opened had obviously been there for some time - it was thick and coming away from the sides. I found the same brand and size at FarmBoy for $6.49. I always buy local to support our local businesses, but when those local businesses are clearly gouging their customers, I don't feel badly for not supporting them. read more

It's funny how you don't notice a store until the need for such store happens in your life. I sort of noticed Grace in the Kitchen on various shopping incursions along Bank St., but it wasn't until the accident that I really saw it. The accident I am talking about was when my wife broke all of our wine glasses. Yes, all of them. We had done some drinking over a few days and had not yet done the dishes. All of our wine glasses were on the counter next to the sink. My wife swung her arm around and accidentally knocked all of them over into the sink. Crrrrash!! So, rather than drink out of tumblers, we went wine glass shopping. We happened to be driving along Bank and spotted (or re-spotted) Grace in the Kitchen. What a serendipitous find! This store is great - they truly have everything a kitchen needs: pots, pans, baking tins, spices, seasonings, bar supplies, forks & knives & spoons, etc. I am not up on all things kitcheny, but Grace in the Kitchen seems to stock only the newest and best gadgets and goods. So, don't expect rock-bottom prices, but at least you are getting top-notch gear. It is Bank St., so parking is strictly street. But, you can park for free for an hour (not during rush hour). I went in here with my elderly grandmother and she was completely flabbergasted (in a good way) about how amazing the service was! They let us try whatever cheese we wanted, and then of course we left with quite the spread. I've been back several times since. If we are headed to a party we will go in and buy whatever they recommend that day. Love it! read more

Churlish service, and they don't carry anything you can't find elsewhere: in fact most of it is available - for a lot less $ with attentive and knowledgeable service - at Bed, Bath & Beyond, another 1/2 mile out of town on Hazeldean! And for cheeses, go across the street to Farmboy, where they have a better selection that isn't well past the best-before date. I purchased a knife bag and some knives from Grace in the Kitchen. It made sense to me that since I was putting my knives in a designated knife bag, everything would be fine. However, the knives tore through the bag and I was pretty irritated about that. I'm baffled that knife bags aren't designed better with stronger materials... The representative at the store mentioned that I should be using knife guards, and even though these rips were partially (let's face it, mostly) my fault, he happily, without hesitation, exchanged my knife bag for a new one, and I of course went on to purchase some knife guards. I was very impressed by his service, and his willingness to overlook my extreme lack of knowledge about the product just to keep a customer happy. It's this kind of service that will keep me shopping at Grace in the Kitchen for years to come. I'll be asking more questions too ;) read more

It's unfortunate that the ownership is lacking in interpersonal skills where customer service is concerned. I'm always browsing this store to feed my inner Julia Child when it comes to working on my epic "Home French Cuisine." I only reserve this store for my "must haves" as I find some things a little pricey, but without a doubt, Grace carries some of the best quality goods my "naked chef" eyes have ever seen. Last time, I went on the hunt for an oyster knife. Failing in every other store I'd been in, in Kanata, Grace was my last hope, and of course, was not dissapointed. Not only did they have exacly what I was looking for, they had a variety of different oyster knives (or shuckers if we want to get technical) which delighted me to no end. My better half was developing a nervous shifty eye as the wonderful clerk took a few out of the glass case for me to try in the palm of my hand, so of course, I went with the most expensive! Low and behold I LOVE my oyster knife and really came in handy Christmas and New Years when your trying to get your food out quickly! read more

Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever had this misfortune to encounter. I placed a special order for an item ($300) before Christmas as a Christmas gift. I was told to expect it mid. Jan and explained to the person whom the gift was for that a special order had to be mad to get it in the colour wanted. Anyway, end of Jan, the inform me that they can't get it. So, I wasted all this time waiting and had to buy a different colour. Would not have been bad except I was now 1 month late giving a gift I could have had on day 1. Insult to this, in Dec this item was for sale at Home Sense for 1/2 price. Staff was very rude and felt that this wasn't there problem. After spending over $700 total for various items over 2 days in Dec., this was unacceptable. Further, when I expressed my disappointment and frustration for having wasted 6-8 weeks waiting, most places would off 10% off on next purchase or something out of good will. Not grace in the kitchen. When I picked up the pot (in a different colour) so that I can actually give the person their gift finally... No apology, just excuses and attitude. Rob- customer service 101- respond to a customer when they say "thanks have a nice day". Walking away after you have given the customer a total run around is not the way to keep business!! Nice products in the store but I will gladly pay more and go elsewhere before going there again! read more
