I love that the store owners are from right here in Kanata and they can give advise on any project and they are happy to find the product that is right for you. They also have Purolator and FedEx if you need to ship packages which is very convenient since they are right up the street from me.

Norm D is right though: they don't sell lumber (note: the TSC in Arnprior doesn't sell lumber either). They do offer a lot of plumbing needs, and bathroom sinks and vanities, along with other hardware store items. I will definitely go back.

I am a budding do-it-yourselfer and I have received a lot of carefully considered advice over the years. The younger staffers may not be as knowledgeable, but they will proactively ask if you need help with anything, which in my experience, is superior service compared to the young staff who seem to "hide out" in the bigger box stores!

Turns out, no one was working who knew how to cut glass and they were unable to do it. Then I got a bit of attitude from a couple of employees when I asked for my frames back. They should have asked me to either come back another day or it would take a day or two and to come back and pick up the glass. Either would have been fine. No one apologized, no one was sympathetic. I actually just asked for a quote and they disappeared into the back with my frames. I think I'll take my business to the new Rona that just opened nearby.

I can't believe I've never reviewed Lee Valley Tools! This store is one of my husband's favourite…read morestores. It sells tools, gardening supplies, and gadgets for the house. They have a limited amount of inventory that they display in the store. The rest of their items are in their warehouse. You look through their catalog using their on-site computers and it will tell you if the item you want is on display (if that's the case, you just find it and get it and check out) or in their warehouse. If it's in their warehouse, you jot down the item number and bring it to the staff and they will get it for you from the warehouse. I am totally going to date myself by saying this, but the set up is a little bit like the now defunct Consumers Distributing. Does anyone remember that store? Lol. They were much more low tech back then of course, you'd have to look through an actual paper catalog to find the item number, lol. Staff here are always very pleasant. They genuinely seem like they enjoy being there. They are easy-going and have a calm demeanor. The vast majority of them are in their golden years and it appears to me like it's their post-retirement gig to get out of the house and make some extra money, lol. I could be wrong, but this is my perception. The prices are on the higher end, but I find the quality of their products are also high and they have unique items that are hard to find elsewhere. They have lots of free parking on-site in their private parking lot. If you love innovative gadgets or tools that are a bit nicer than the ones you'd find at your average hardware store, give Lee Valley a look-see.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Used to be a Lowe's now a RONA+…read more Good for hardware and home improvement stuff. The plants in their garden centre aren't in the best shape :( The Long Version: I don't know the full history, but once upon a time, Lowe's, RONA and Home Depot were the big box home improvement stores in Canada. Then Lowe's bought RONA and converted some RONA stores into Lowe's stores, then Lowe's decided to pull out of Canada and sold its Canadian stores to a firm called Sycamore Partners so some Lowe's locations in Canada became RONA+ stores and the rest closed down. So there are still RONA stores around, but the ownership is different from the RONA of days past. This RONA location used to be a Lowe's. Home improvement/hardware stores are not my favourite types of stores, but my husband and father love these types of stores. However, I recently got into houseplants, so whenever my husband and I go to these types of stores to look for home improvement stuff, I go to the garden centre to check out the plants. When I went in March, the plant selection was small and they had some small succulents that were in really rough shape. All etiolated and some leaves were yellowing/browning really bad :( They had some larger succulents in better shape and some cacti that seemed to be doing well. Selection was small in general and in general the plants were in poorer shape here than at other big box stores. The rest of the store looked fine and my husband found what he was looking for. So overall I would say this location is good for home improvement stuff, but not indoor plants from my experience. Lots of free parking. Review #87 (2025)

TL;DR/The Short Version: One of 2 RONAs in close proximity…read moreto each other. This one has a smaller garden centre than the other one. The Long Version: So I find it a bit odd that there are 2 RONA locations within a kilometre and a half of each other. This one is at 340 West Hunt Club and the other one is at 585 West Hunt Club. I then remembered that this one used to be a Lowe's before Lowe's pulled out of Canada. It's actually a RONA+ while the other one is just a plain RONA. What's the difference, you ask? Technically the RONA+ is supposed to focus more on style with more offerings while the regular RONAs are more the traditional hardware and home improvement stores. Do I notice the difference? Not really, lol. In fact, this RONA has LESS selection when it comes to indoor plants, than the other location. And I would consider indoor plants more to do with style and decor, but whatever, I don't run these places. Haha. The thing that I've noticed about all RONA locations though, and this one is no different, is that their washrooms are very clean. And the set up is hygienic. There are no doors to the washrooms (don't worry, there are doors to the stalls, lol). So after you've freshly washed your hands you don't contaminate them by touching dirty door handles. I appreciate design features like this. Anyway, this location is good for home improvement and hardware. I'm not really convinced that it has more selection for home furnishings than other locations. Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot. Review #105 (2025)

Unfortunately, this Rona is a small store and it only has a very small selection of basic tools. I decided to look around and see what other products were for sale. I did eventually find some construction glue, tape and a few other items to buy. With my purchases in hand, I walked over to the cash register. The male cashier was looking at me with a weird (bizarre) expression on his face. Abruptly the cashier said, "You have to pay. You have to pay for the merchandise." Looking at the products being held in my hands I exclaimed, "Everything I'm buying is right here." The cashier rudely said, "How are you paying?" I replied, "With my credit card." Next, the cashier demanded that I show him a piece of photo ID. My planned purchases were for about $60.00. Feeling disgusted, I immediately placed the items onto the counter and walked straight out of the door. While I did briefly look around in this store, the cashier jumped to the totally false conclusion that I was trying to steal something. This store has only a small floor space and a very limited selection of tools and materials for sale, which are used in construction. Given my treatment I will never go back to Rona Manotick on Bankfield Road. Having such a poor shopping experience, I can't in any way recommend this Rona to anyone. I would have rated this Rona with no stars, but you have to give a least one star when writing a review.
