It was half empty(?) and the vibes were pretty chill. I ordered the 8pc salmon dinner and the sake maki. Food came out super quickly which I appreciated. Sake maki was fine. All the ingredients were good, but the roll was not fully closed (open seaweed seams). I was definitely more impressed with the salmon dinner. The cuts of salmon were fresh and delicious. I especially loved the pieces that had extra sauces/toppings etc. I also loved the proportion of rice to fish (much less rice than average restaurants) Service was quick and efficient as well. Ordered the omakase and some items off the special menu, including baked mussels and of course: Ikura, my son's favorite. Complementary edamame. Sushi actually melted in your mouth deliciously indicating the chefs took considerable care in preparing of each piece. I recently visited Oto Sushi, and unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the hostess in a friendly enough manner, but I felt extremely uncomfortable due to the constant staring from the wait staff. The man behind the register was staring at me, repeatedly. I met his gaze, and he'd look away and continued to repeat the behavior. This went on for a good 5 min and It made me feel unwelcome and uneasy, as though I didn't belong there. With that I will say message received, Loud and Clear. Adding to the discomfort, the food was disappointing. The gyoza was great as you can't go wrong with fried foods. We (my co-worker) and I ordered off the lunch menu. Both of us were disappointed with the quality of the sushi rolls we order. I found that the fish used wasn't the freshest and the flavor was off. We tried bites of each other's food and came to the same conclusion. I felt like we were served product that was on its last leg before being tossed. I had no I'll effects, but my coworker did experience an upset stomach. We've had to go from Oto and it was just okay. This time we decided to dine in, with my experience of being stared at like i wasn't welcomed and the poor quality of the food. I must definitely will not be patronizing Oto again. We dined in at 12:15 PM and were wearing the Black Scrubs should someone need their memory jogged. Overall, the unwelcoming atmosphere and subpar food made this a very unpleasant dining experience. The chicken teriyaki is not the greatest. Small portion, small chicken pieces. It's not grilled either. This was $22, after 10% to go tip it's $24, no salad included. Just a cup of rice and small portion of chicken. For reference, this is about 20-30% higher than in cost compared to nearby teriyaki restaurants that are much better and larger portions. My go to spot on the east side! Both Kirkland and Redmond locations are great. Fish has always tasted fresh! My favorite roll is the fire starter roll. The sauce you dip it in is one of the best tasting things I've ever had. I seriously ask my husband if we can get takeout from here every week. I always get that with maybe a sea snake or deluxe dragon roll and their beef yaki udon. Service is super quick and efficient! They take your order promptly, drop food off quickly, buss and refill waters throughout the meal as well. I've never been disappointed with service or food here. Restaurant is quaint and cozy. Not that big and can get busy during dinner services but usually don't have that much of a problem getting seated right away. read more

Some of the staff were a bit short, smand seemed annoyed, but there was another table there with two loud, obnoxious kids, who were running around and screaming so I don't blame them for that - we were annoyed as well. Oto in Kirkland is a small place with tables and seats along a small sushi bar. It has a wide variety of items on their menu that include sushi, sashimi, and cooked dishes like fried rice, karaage, noodles, and other things. The Friday night we went it was about 3/4 full and had regular table turnover. They bring edamame (cold) to the table and miso came with our meals. I haven't had rolls for a while and saw that this is highly recommended by some of my friends. As we had a car, we took that advantage to try this place out that is farther from downtown Seattle. We ordered 8 different rolls to share: 1) Fresh Godzilla Roll 2) Deluxe Dragon Roll 3) Lion King Roll 4) Caterpillar Roll 5) Cowboy Roll 6) Bootylicious Roll 7) Northwest Philly Roll 8) Dynamite Roll All of these were pretty good quality and are on par with a lot of rolls places I have tried. Particularly, I greatly enjoyed the lion king and dynamite rolls as I tend to like baked rolls due to the flavor. Cowboy roll is a nice change in scenery from seafood to meat. The pricing of the rolls are a bit strange, though. Northwest Philly roll is well priced while some of these, for $15.95, have only 6-8 pieces only so it can get pricey real quick. While the food is pretty glod, there isn't anything standout that I would make a journey back, especially with the price point. We were not full and we spent about $30 per person. read more

I was craving sushi today and found this place on Yelp. I called in my order and was told my order would be ready in 35 - 40. I was less than 10 mins away and decided to just drive and wait in my car. I didn't have to wait long, my order was ready in about 20 mins and I got a message letting me know my order was ready. I'm not sure why this place isn't better rated. I recently started working nearby and Oto has become one of my go to lunch spots. They have HH pricing during lunch until 5pm I believe where you can literally get a sushi combo with a roll + 6 pieces of nigiri for $19.95. Living in Seattle, the nigiri alone would be $19.95! They have apps and rolls ranging from about $5 up to $15. Then combos for $20. Entree prices all around $15 as well. It feels like a steal. The quality of the fish has all been great as well. I might have a few knocks on what can sometimes feel like rushed service but during lunch hour, I'm also in a rush so haven't really minded. Let's just say they are very efficient and run a brisk in/out business. read more

This is so close to my house and suprisingly I just went here for first time and loved it. I am tempted to give 3.5 stars but I think it just about made 4 and deserves 4 . Its an incredibly small place but we got seated quickly. Waiter was polite and place is clean. I ordered three rolls...spicy salmon roll, baja california roll and fire alarm roll. The rolls tasted well and 48 hours later my stomach is fine which means the cuts were fresh and made cleanly...:P The rolls were just a bit loosely packed for my liking (specially the end pieces) and wasabi was strong but watery. I would definitely prefer the speciality rolls over standard (duhh...thats already in name...but speciality do taste significantly better) Considering the price portion and taste, I liked this place a lot and am inclined to visit soon as they have huge menu of rolls and I think i need to try them all gradually to know my favorite one read more

I've heard great things about Oto in Redmond, and have been to this Kirkland location a few times. I'm pretty impressed with the selection and quality of the sushi and hot items here. The soft-shelled crab is perfectly fried, and with the all the rolls to choose from, it's a little overwhelming! The OMG salmon sushi is treat as well. Most recently, I had to chance try the screaming orgasm (yes this is what is is called lol) - 8 pieces of sashimi on a bed of salad with spicy ponzu and japanese mayo. I was pretty impressed, and would order this again! Def fast becoming my go-to sushi place in the neighborhood! read more

I'll preface this by saying that I ordered an hour before closing since I'm not sure if that affected my experience. Made an order over the phone and my order was repeated back to me for confirmation (always a fan of this). Got my order of yaki udon with chicken, spider roll, 'rock and roll' roll, and Mexican roll. Each roll was individually packed with wasabi and ginger. Spider roll was decent, rock and roll roll was not bad too. So far so good. Yaki udon with chicken was pretty bland and not really flavorful. Tried the ginger that came with the Mexican roll and started tasting soap in my mouth. A few of the pieces tasted like soap too. Not sure how this could happen, but not that happy. Roll portion size is pretty decent. Two rolls could probably fill you up. I'll give the other Oto Sushi a shot some other time when I'm craving my fix, but not terribly impressed with my first experience. read more

I have to say, based off of the overall rating and the most recent reviews, I am disappointed. To start, our waitress obviously didn't care about her job. Ordering seemed like it was inconvenient for her. She never checked on us. My husband had to literally wave her down to order another roll. Onto the food. The Baja California was very tasty. The other two, not really. We had the Skinny Girl which all we could taste was cucumber. No other flavors came through. We also had the Hawaii role. The sauce on it was not good. It also stole the show, we weren't able to taste any other flavor. We had heated sake. That was tasty. Tonight's dinner finished with both of our guts gurgling. We likely won't be back. read more

Second visit to Oto Sushi and still enjoying our meals, all 8 of us. 3 kids chowed down on the reliable chicken katsu. One fish-adverse eater enjoyed her chicken yaki-udon. One of the best deals is their side salad that is a +$2 adder with selected dinners. Highly recommend to supplement and create a healthy meal. See photo. Other new tastings are: Dynamite Roll - This is one of the baked rolls. All their baked rolls seem to visually look the same, assembled with different ingredients. The baking done for today's roll seem to be more so than the St. Helens roll last time, i.e. the seafood is a bit too cooked. I did notice this roll is abundantly well stocked with seafood, i.e. bigger than other rolls, and I was overstuffed eating this roll, the side salad, and one order of nigiri (two pieces). Deluxe Tuna Roll - Tuna, cucumber, avocado, with masago topping. Simple and fresh. From the cross-section, you can see the rice amount is quite reasonable. I would have liked more masago. Ive been an Oto Sushi Kirkland customer for about 5 years. Always loved dining in as they had great sushi and fabulous customer service. Sadly, the las 4 times I've ordered or dined in have been nothing short of unpleasant. Las time I dine in, after ordering the first round of sushi, I decided to order one more sushi. I couldn't get the waitress attention for 25min. I approached the sushi bar to order one more sushi, the waitress saw me and got hugely upset for me going around her; even tho I unsuccessfully got her attention for almost 30min. This weekend I ordered take out, and although the order was late, it wasn't a big deal to me; the same waitress (from past experiences) gave me an attitude when I asked for extra ginger and wasabi for my order. I ordered 4 sushi's and got 1 qty worth of ginger and wasabi (this had happened in the past), so I ordered extra. The server was clearly bothered for a simple ask. Completely unnecessary. Not sure if management has changed, but customer service has significantly decreased over the last few months. read more

Came here for lunch recently as my friend suggested it. Ordered the chirashi bowl (which comes with miso soup), as I'm definitely not very interested in ordering rolls at this point. Fresh and thick cuts of sushi were abundant, so I was happy with that. If you're looking for something outside of the regular cuts you'd expect, you won't be happy. With that said, it's definitely a solid pick at $18.95 for lunch. More than satisfied with my choice. Service here was solid, although I would've had a serious problem if not since we came here at 2 PM with practically no one else in the restaurant. Curiously, the restaurant did fill up a lot right after we sat down. Parking in this plaza is a bitch, so good luck with that. Wouldn't mind coming back if I'm in the area. read more

The sushi is good. However, there is a huge bug infestation in the restaurant. I literally spent my entire meal swatting flies from my food and picking them out of my drink. Really I'd like to give Oto 3.5 stars but I'm settling on 3 since there are several other sushi restaurants in the Seattle area that I prefer. We arrived on a weeknight around 7 and thankfully didn't have to wait for a table for two since I was hungry! The medium-small restaurant was about half full I would say. They check your vaccine cards at the door so be ready! I occasionally eat seafood while out although I wanted to keep it veg this time around. They do have a handful of vegetarian rolls on the menu which I appreciate, although some of the veggie rolls contain cream cheese, and I'm not the biggest fan of that. The Buddha Roll ($8.95) caught my eye, so I settled on that guy and was pretty satisfied. The Buddha Roll includes "deep-fried yam and asparagus topped with avocado, inari, and eel sauce." Google says inari is a fried rice/tofu concoction, sounds good to me! And eel sauce doesn't contain eel phew, ha. Of course I had to order some hot sake (it was a cool fall evening after all) and am glad I did, it was tasty as expected. Our waiter brought out edamame which I enjoy snacking on as well. To round out my meal I went with a cup of miso soup ($2). It was pretty standard, no complaints. Service was decent and the interior is modest. Think strip mall sushi joint. My friend said he enjoyed his sushi (rolls with seafood) so that's good to hear! I'd come back or order takeout for convenience. Sometimes I don't feel like going into Seattle for food. read more

They have a really great happy hour as well as lunch specials that make their food a good value during certain hours of the day but it is very much still worth it regardless. I usually take orders to go but if you dine-in you are treated to a complimentary salted Edemame, Miso soup, and attentive service from staff. You can choose to sit at the counter/bar area or the tables. They have so many good rolls and sushi options but if I had to choose one to share with you it would be the caterpillar role!
