My husband and I just returned from a fantastic dinner experience. We sat at the bar which was a great choice. Mike the bartender was amazing with cocktails and impeccable service and conversation! I had the beet salad -fantastic and the flounder entree! Delicious!! Hubby had the 5 course dinner which he loved! To top it off we both had the toffee dessert and finished every bite! Seriously, one of the big surprises in the region and beyond, possibly one of the best places if not the best within a large radius. Very reasonably priced and excellently executed innovative cuisine with local ingredients. Improvement potential in pairing wines to the menu (wine mongers are you reading this?). That said, everything we had (and that would be 2/3 of the menu in two tastings) was perfectly executed and enjoyable to have. It seems that Exeter does provide the clientele to support a place that would do also very well in the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago or Boston. Staff was friendly and attentive without being overly so. Food was amazing! I had the taster menu (5 small plates including desser) and my DH had an amazing app (chicken) and steak meal with dessert. Wine list is short, but covers all the important bases. We loved our dinner experience. Place was hopping on a Tuesday night at 6pm :) Full disclosure: we have loved the Inn by the Bandstand for 8 years now so we do have a soft spot for that place. 6 stars!!! I just read the hundreds of amazing reviews regarding Otis. And I can't agree with all of them more. I have lived in Exeter all of my 46 years of life and have eaten in all "the right places" .... no, not until I ate at Otis. Lee Frank has outdone himself. The Carriage House in Rye is great, CR's, formally Bonta was good, but Otis, as an obnoxious foody, in my mind takes the cake. Amazing from start to finish, sat at the chef table, talked to Lee, told me exactly what was in front of me. Had the Best meal ever. Hands down. Don't go there, saves me a seat. read more

Great people, ambiance and food! Went to Otis tonight for first time and will definately be back! Sat at the chef table and had a wonderful experience watching the two chefs prepare dinners. Our server, Sharon, was great and helped us with the menu although not sure anything on the menu is not worth trying. I had snapper and my wife has salmon, cooked perfectly, seasnoned expertly and presented with flair. Had a night cap at the bar with Ron, he is excellent and made the end of your visit exceptional. The steak was fatty, under cooked and over salted. The blue cheese was extremely strong in taste and smell. We did enjoy the beet appetizer with whipped goat cheese. This cheese was light, not strong. Service at the bar was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere very pleasant for such a small place. Noise level was medium, but we were able to converse comfortably without raising our voices. Unfortunately, someone sitting right behind us did feel the need to raise her voice. read more

Fun foods! Even the common ingredients are presented in a way most of us would have never imagined. I am a vegetarian, mostly vegan. I chatted with our server. She made a few recommendations, checked with Chef Lee Frank about modifications, and he absolutely crushed it. Perfect! My wife Miranda and I also ordered a few drinks. The wines and mixed drinks should not be overlooked. Top notch selections. Everyone is so friendly. The atmosphere is lively and energetic. You can tell every detail, from decor to music taste, was carefully considered. A lot of thought has gone into presentation. I super highly recommend going to our new fave NH restaurant! read more

My girlfriend and I have been to Otis at least a half a dozen times. The food is always delectable. We also like to go to Otis because the contention and drama between the owner/chef (Otis) and his sous-chef and/or waitstaff was entertaining to watch. One night we stayed an extra half hour just to see the conclusion of a tiff he was having with his sous-chef - a new sous-chef was there three weeks later. We almost always noticed a new sous-chef. During another visit, a waitress was crying profusely as Otis incessantly berated her. The waitress then went to the bathroom for at least 10 minutes, while someone else covered her tables. It honestly provided significant entertainment value - dinner and 'show' anyone? However, it is all fun and games until Otis's wrath is turned on you. This happened when we were never asked what temp to cook my girlfriend's steak - no big deal. My girlfriend and I debated for some time whether to say something (don't want to make a big deal of it), but she really prefers steak rare. We were very humble, and did not want to create any trouble. When the new steak came back, one side was burnt to the point that a good few millimeters were charred black and tasted like charcoal. Now, I know that Otis knows how to cook, and he would know that this is is not the way to cook a rare steak. The bottom line - as a worker as a customer don't do anything to irritate Otis, as there will be repercussions. He then wanted to even 'stick the knife in' further by making an impromptu speech regarding the fact that he would not tolerate this behavior (as we made it know we were not happy) and we should show more appreciation because of covid/global pandemic. read more

This restaurant is a true gem. The food was absolutely fantastic. I must say that the menu was not incredibly inspiring by the way it was written so we asked the server for suggestions. Everything we received was absolutely incredible, from the steak to the ham/rice app. In fact the food was so good we all ordered deserts even though we were full from the meal! We work in Boston so have access to, and eat regularly, in the finest restaurants in the area, I can tell you that even though Otis is in Exeter it is in my top 5 for the "Boston area". read more

My wife and I dined at Otis this evening and that is absolutely the best meal we've ever eaten in New Hampshire. Lee is an awesome chef and will thrill your palate with delicious fresh cuisine from local farm, dairy, butcher, and fresh caught seafood. We decided to be adventurous and try the blind five selected items of two apps, two entrees, and a finishing desert. A totally awesome dinner. Best soup I've ever had, an amazing house made pasta app, an expertly seared salmon, and a wonderful ribeye cut with an onion purée base that was unforgettable. The service was top notch. ummm..i feel very badly to say how little we liked this..we reallllly wanted to love it after reading the reviews..now left wondering about the accuracy of these reviews..the chicken we received was so very salty and over cooked..almost burned..very small pieces for the money as well, but honestly we werent that upset about that because what we did get was so salty and dry..side dishes were bland oddly..no flavor except the slight hint of vinegar of the slaw..creamed corn was so not creamed..it was just liquidy..based on the fried chicken we would not frequent this restaurant again..even though they mean well, in the end, it really sadly tasted like chicken and sides we could pick up at the shaws counter for 5$..shocked at the "rave " reviews..sorry read more

Truly the new gen of F2T restaurants in the Seacoast. The decor is hip, urban brassiere style. Banks's art lines the walls. A very high quality selection of red and whites with several craft made cocktails. The menu featured hyper local produce for this early fall. Coffee bribed carrots were a very pleasant surprise. Local caught cod, was the special. Started off with the salmon tartar. Had hints of sweet onion with a fruit based chutney lightly mixed in. Not overpowering. My main dish was sliced duck breast with duck fat rendered fingerling potatoes. Also accompanied with roasted rainbow colored carrots in a Demi glacé reduction. Wonderful autumnal flavors. Service was very good. Otis is small so the tables are tight and the ceilings are high. Mouse level is an 8(1-10) but a very lively vibe. The desserts were incredible as well. All prepared on premises. This is THE new leader in Seacoast dining. Note: due to its small size highly recommend a reservation ( they are on OpenTable). There is 'drop in' seating at the bar and in front of the chef's prep station. A must for any gastronome! read more

The menu is constantly being changed, is very creative, and the ingredients are fresh and locally sourced. The daily menu is creative, farm to table cooking. They should give credit to their local partners on their menu instead of acronyms (we thought is was foodie code until we asked our waitress) . The meals were more along the lines of French Cuisine portions. The dinner plates was at least 14" round and my sirloin steak was two pieces about 3 ounces each so you can image the disproportionate look. My wife had the duck breast and she was very pleased. The scallops as an appetizer was wonderful. Bathrooms clean (just watch your step entering), drinks were good and strong, my wife's chocolate desert had no sweetness and was disappointing and ultimately taken off the bill. Our waitresses service was very good, engaging and informative. The atmosphere, loud, we needed to scream at each other to hear our conversation (sound board is needed in the ceiling). The prices are too high based on the portions of the meal. read more
