This is our second time in this restaurant. We came here 3 years ago. It is such a big difference with the first time. At first time we loved everything there , and the food was very tasty. But they were not as crazily busy as now. I guess after Covid they were still not fully recovered. Let me start with our server. Daniel wasn't just any server he treated us like family. His food suggestions and attention he paid to us was more than amazing. Now to the food and wine. Daniel brought us an appetizer sampler with buffalo mozzarella, meats, other cheeses and burratta. OMG was it good. For our entree's I had the spaghetti (the homemade pasta was a perfect al dente) with meat sauce and meatballs was delicious. My wife had the special, branzino. It was perfectly cooked flaky and sooo... tender! My boys ate the Ravioli and carbonara. They loved their dishes (I ate off of all of their plates and can attest to the quality of their food), but better then that they loved our server Daniel and how he called them out when they tried to order something that he thought was a typical "American" dish and pushed them to try something they couldn't get in the USA. With that being said we went back again tonight and my boys were both hoping Daniel was working and he was. He took amazing care of us again. If you go the lasagna is amazing! One of my boys had the margarita pizza he ate every piece and loved it. This restaurant and the service is 10 stars. I highly recommend you go. Avoid. We were going to another restaurant around the corner but it was closed for vacation in August. There were a lot of people eating here and the outdoor seating area seemed lively with lights and lawn-like flooring and water mists. As we passed this place, the guy working in front convinced us to go in. He was pushy but we were also tired and hungry. There was a TripAdvisor stamp of approval on this outdoor menu so I proceed to look it up. Should have been warned when there was no Yelp stamp of approval! It took me a while because the internet was slow and I didn't even know the name of the restaurant. He saw what I was doing and it was taking too long so he said "it's maracuja and it has good reviews. ". He offered to put in for me when he saw I still couldn't find it. He also said the price you see is the price, no cover charge, no service fee, no tax. Liar! The atmosphere is lively with the lights and there were a lot of people which was part of the reason we decided to go ahead with it. The food was ok. Our waiter suggested the bucatini with amatriciana sauce. It's a tomato sauce with bacon. The pasta was good- cooked al dente but the bacon was so hard I thought I was going to break my teeth. I also had a taste of the carbonara, which Rome is famous for. All of the other restaurants in Rome made carbonara light and tasty, very different from the US. In his restaurant, it was heavy and creamy. I also got the bruschetta but it was disappointing as it only had chopped seasoned tomatoes on a slice of bread. Other places had cheese which made a difference. Our waiter told us the special was the pasta with seafood which included lobster, clams, mussels and other things. He was pushing it to us and pointed out another customer who was eating it. I didn't want seafood. Also, not sure what kind of lobster or seafood you'd get in Rome (I like Maine lobster and even if they have Maine lobster, I wouldn't get that here). Husband doesn't eat clam and mussel so we didn't get it. Later, when I asked him for suggestions, he suggested the special again. In hindsight, it was a good thing we didn't get it since it was the special, it wasn't on the menu which means there is no limit to what he can charge for it. When the bill came, I saw it was doubled all the other places we ate at for the same amount of food. The food itself was not significantly higher but the soda, juices, water were very expensive. The waiter pointed to the amount and said, that does not include tip. And then he gave my husband the credit card machine and said, you tip here. I was tempted to tell him the guy in front luring us in said otherwise. I decided not to make a fuss about it. It wasn't worth it since my husband tipped him 5% and the guy seems satisfied. read more

We came to this place after the Colosseum based on the reviews. We got here early so they were not very many tables they had two specials they were both seafood and one was a spaghetti with clams muscles and lobster for €28. It sounds delicious but I opted for the tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce for €14. The food was served in a pan/skillet like you would cook on the stove list. I asked for Parmesan cheese and I had to ask somebody else to get it for me before my pasta got cold. My husband got tortellini with peas ham mushrooms and a cream sauce and he said that was very good as well. We started with a buffalo mozzarella cheese with ham/prosciutto that was definitely one of the best buffalo mozzarella cheeses I've had. It's a bowl of cheese but it's very moist inside. Being from the states I thought the "Buffalo" mozzarella was spice because they used buffalo sauce lol. Nope, cheese from milk of a Buffalo. BE CAREFUL!!!! We decided to try this restaurant after seeing a recommendation on Facebook, even though we'd heard warnings to avoid places where staff try to lure you in from the street. The food and overall experience started off well -- the staff were friendly and offered plenty of compliments during our meal. We placed our order, and the waiter suggested we try the sea bass. We agreed, trusting his recommendation. However, when the bill arrived, just as we were about to pay, the waiter said it was incorrect. He returned with a new bill that included an extra €15 charge, claiming we had received a "bigger fish." This was never explained to us when ordering and not noted on the menu. The man who initially lured us in said he would talk to management but then walked away and never returned. The waiter stood his ground, refusing to acknowledge that the upcharge had not been disclosed. To make matters worse, there was an automatic 18% gratuity added to the bill, even though earlier we had been told there was no service charge. Overall, what began as a pleasant experience turned into a disappointing one due to dishonest billing practices. read more

Absolutely awesome. This place has mist fans going, which help on 95 degree days. The food is hot & fresh, and most dishes are served in metal pans - very cool. It is sad that the restaurant looks like it serves great food, and its vegetable soup was delicious. The wine was good. However, I ordered the grilled shrimp. It arrived quickly, beautifully served, in their shells, I am used to cleaning shrimp. What I was not prepared for was to have to try and get the vein with all the sand and grit out of the shrimp. It was too bad because it was definitely fresh tasting-what part I could get clean. I asked for the bill. The waiter asked if it was OK. I explained that I couldn't get the vein with the grit out. He said OK. And brought the bill. I asked why he was charging me for the shrimp since they were inedible. HE said OK, brought back a new bill-still with the shrimp on the bill. I just paid and left. I would highly suggest if you do eat here, ask for them to clean the shrimp. Everyone else had good looking pizzas and deserts. And most people looked to be enjoying themselves. They demand service tip under "tip" meaning they wont put service fee on the receipt - to not pay tax on it but then they will come you saying they will add this on the terminal to cover service fee. Food isnt that good either, avoid this place. read more

This place is so good, we ate here twice. The hospitality is the best in the region and the prices are affordable for being in the heart of a tourist center. It's close to the Coliseum, Il Patria National and the ancient roman ruins. We ordered the pizza, gnocchi and ravioli. The ravioli was sauce was so distinct and flavorful, it was the reason I came back again. There's indoor/outdoor dining and a romantic ambiance. At first, we thought the gentleman who worked here were selling the pedestrians super hard on their restaurant (which typically disenchants me), but it's just the culture here in Italy. Service was attentive and friendly, and the seafood pasta was packed with flavor, amped up by the mullet roe mixed in with most seafood dishes. My new favourite restaurant in Rome! Right off the bat the service was incredible - there was a wait so we were given a complimentary glass of champagne! The location is also wonderful! We couldn't even decide what to order! Being our last night in Rome we thought we would try a few things and pack the rest up to go - and am I glad we decided to do that! We've tried tiramisu at every restaurant we've eaten at all week (I know, but we're on vacation) and Osteria Maracuja's was the best. We have eaten all over southern and northern Italy and this place was the first to be disappointing. The service was ok. Waiters were a bit rude but everyone has bad days. The food was tasteless. The vegetables seemed old. The meat had barely any taste. The meat dish was one of their more expensive dishes and tasted like it was cooked at a fast food joint. It wasn't true authentic Italian food. The array of smaller mom and pop places and even larger restaurants that we have visited were much more authentic and had the true Italian flavor. We loved this place! We had actually gotten lost and I dont even recall what we were looking for! It was lunch time and we ordered a charcuterie with meats and cheeses, a delicious arugula salad with sliced beef carpaccio on top and an order of calamari! CAUTION: TOURIST TRAP! We came here for lunch after touring the colosseum & the Roman forums. It is literally a short walk away; pretty much across the street from the forums. They open at 11am for drinks & don't start serving food until 12. We got done w the colosseum/forums at around 10:45ish so we walked here & decided to go next door for some gelato first before coming back here & sitting down for drinks while waiting for them to start serving food. The service was good - I would definitely give them 4 stars for service alone. However, the food was mediocre at best - 3 stars. I'm not sure I can truly put into words both the quality of food and service this new restaurant is providing. We arrived in Rome via the train and checked into our B&B (resides in the same building), as usual my wife and I asked where we should go for lunch and true to form they suggested an establishment very close and one would assume, in on a kick-back of sorts. Our assumptions could not be further from the truth, we ended up dining at this phenomenal and severely underpriced diamond of a cliché restaurant three times in two days and regretted not retuning for a fourth time, a mistake and regret on our part. The first visit I ordered the lobster linguine, anticipating some minced shrimp passed off due to the price point of under €15. This was the first time I was blown away as I was served a half lobster, still in its shell. We returned from dinner that evening and we're both recognized and recognized by both the owner and staff and given a table upon arrival sans reservation. We had been in country for over a week at this point and was in desperate need of a break from Italian food so I went out on a limb and ordered tartare. The server brought out a healthy portion and intact pice of filet mignonette and both cut and prepared the dish to my specific liking. As you may know, tipping is not an expectation in Italy unless the service above and beyond at which point €1-€3 are left as a thank you. Personally, I loathe the practice of tipping and will regularly leave little to not gratuity in the states if service is unacceptable however, this evening I left the server €10. Our third visit also was way above our expectations, we walked in for lunch and were again recognized and thanked for returning, we were told to sit wherever we liked (once again there was a line of other customers awaiting seats). At this point I had the expectation of the quality service I had received on my previous visits and unfortunately I was proved wrong and received even better service as well as free drinks and comped food therefore obligating me to leave another €10 in gratuity. Later that evening when we returned to our B&B for the evening we were ushered in to their bar and given a night cap of a glass of wine and a blueberry liqueur. As both my wife and I were craving Some gelato before bed I left the front door of our B&B when the server from the day before noticed me walking outside, I waved hello to him as he gestured for me to wait. He dropped what he was doing, came outside and thanked me for my generous tip and explained how much it meant to him and that he was going to put it towards his daughters school clothes. I have never, ever received such perfect, welcoming and make you feel like family service as well as spectacular food from any restaurant from the $200 per person Michelin star tasting menus to my "regular" restaurants that I go to on a weekly basis that cannot seem to remember that you order the same entrée each and every time. Do not miss this restaurant, or feel weird about going a fourth time in two days, you will regret that decision as my wife and I did. Seriously, eat here! read more
