For sure a place to come have some Italian food. Our server was top notch . Super friendly and attentive staff .... Love coming here because the inside is so unique and edgy, every time I travel from California , I make it a point to stop here. The food is good, just good. Missing that "je ne sais quoi"

My husband found this restaurant recommendation off Instagram while we were in Italy. After a quick walk to La Base, we fell in love with the atmosphere and ambience they created. We absolutely love the vintage vibe of the restaurant. It wasn't too busy as we went during the slow time of year, so our service was great. We were both craving seafood and ordered an appetizer of fried calamari. My husband ordered Tonnarelli Fra Diavolo and absolutely loved it. I had ordered the chef special of linguine aglio with shrimp. It was exactly what I wanted, pasta that was a little bit different. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat.

    Are my pizza so fast.

Needed a late night restaurant to fill my needs and this place hit the spot! Didn't get to ambitious and got the margarita pizza and a side salad... with a glass of win of course. The pizza was great. Wine was a good table wine. Salad wasn't worth it. Service is slow but you are in Roma.. so chill out. Price is average.

Don't let the funky interior fool you, there's better food to be had on the back streets of Rome. I would go elsewhere to eat. Staff seem confused by us Americans. We had a waiter who spoke ok English. We ordered two salads, three lasagna in a gnocchi. It all came out at once. Which is not our experience at other locations throughout Rome over a dozen days. The gnocchi came out piping hot. The 3 lasagna, not so much. In fact, the center of mine was actually cold. I asked them to reheat it and they did. Even hot it was ok not great. The atmosphere, videos, music, make it fun. If you're stopping in for a drink, it could be a good time.

Recommended by the staff at the hotel I was staying which is just next door. The food is absolutely amazing. Very flavorful, fresh and reasonably priced. These are the two dishes I tried, but I assume everything there is very tasty.

Great food, location and funky fun interior...slow servce! Staff was sweet but Gheez how long does it take for a mojito?! And why so much sugar at the bottom? Anyway, we had the Argentine Steak, spinach, penne with mushrooms and bacon, and potatoes. All were very good. It is very close to the Coliseum which is only two or so blocks away.

Very funky interior that created a nice ambiance. It wasn't too busy when we went so we were seated right away. My pasta was so good and flavorful. There was a strong prawn flavor which I loved in the sauce! It was also super cheap which is always a plus!

After days of pasta and other Italian delights, Bob's tastebuds turned to burger and fries. The Roman take on fries at La Base meant a special seasoning. His burger fully satisfied. My gnocchi were pillowy and tasty although I did grab bites of the yummy fries.

Honestly, people keep hating on this place but after a long night/morning of clubbing until 3am...this is the only half decent place open that late with some bomb pasta. Would I come here for a nice dinner? Eh no probably not. But when you want some delicious, cheap pasta at 3am this is your spot 100%. On Friday night they stay open until around 3:30am so it's perfect when you get those late night drunchies. I got spaghetti (can't remember specifically why kind) and it was delicious!! So creamy and filling! My friends got two different types of penne, one with more of a marinara sauce and one with a four cheese sauce and both looked amazing! The four cheese penne melted in your mouth. Definitely the perfect cure for those post-clubbing blues. Also, the fact that this place was packed at 3am with Italians made me feel good about it. We actually heard about it through a local, and I would trust a local over a few bad Yelp reviews any day.

My boyfriend and I choose to eat here because we were both starving and it was near our hotel. There were a lot of mixed reviews so I was hesitant but I'm actually very glad we did. Atmosphere: I don't even know where to begin with the decor. It was definitely funky. The walls were full of different artifacts, trinkets, pictures. And when I say full of, I mean full of. It definitely gave you something to look at while you were waiting for your food. The overall feel kinda had like a TGIFriday's feel to it, if you are looking to compare it to something in America. The tables are different sizes but crammed together. I noticed families there with kids and there was a children's menu. The place was hoppin' when we got there, so it was very noisy and had energy. The lighting was dim but you could still see everything pretty well. There was a bar in the very back. Honestly though, maybe just go to this place to check out the decor. It's not like anything I've ever seen. Service: This is the downfall of this place and why I am not giving it the full 5 stars. The staff seem very scatter brained and I am not even sure who are waitress/waiter really was. I think a different person took our order, brought us drinks, brought us food, and gave us the bill. I was very confused as to their method. In any case, they weren't exactly rude but weren't really nice either. There was minimal conversation and not much expression. We were seated pretty quickly but it took awhile for someone to come get our order. The food came out in probably 20-25 minutes which killed me because I was starving. We gobbled up our pizzas - no one stopped to ask us if everything was okay. Getting the bill took awhile and we ended up going to the front to cash out as it seemed a lot quicker than sitting and waiting for someone to take money. They said thank you on the way out at least. Food: The menu is pretty extensive but my boyfriend and I really just wanted pizza so we both got Margarita Pizzas. There were a lot "American" options on their menu too I noticed. Their pizza was freakin delicious. Crust was super thin with just the right crunch. The ratio of sauce to cheese was pretty much spot on. Maybe a teenie tiny bit too much cheese but that is more a personal preferences. The sauce was flavorful and actually there. It came out super hot so we had to wait to eat it but with the first bite the cheese was stringy and gooey and wonderful. I couldn't finish the whole thing because it was pretty big but I came close. My boyfriend finished his easily though. They cut their pizzas too which I actually prefer but is kinda a no no for true Italian restaurants (or so my tour guide said). I would definitely suggest getting a pizza if you go here. Cost: Reasonable, maybe slightly on the cheaper end than other places. The drinks are really what always kills your bill. A soda is ridiculously expensive anywhere you go in Italy. We still ended up eating for like 25 euros with the tip included though so I'm not complaining. We did however just get pizzas so I am not sure about costs on other foods. Our pizzas were big as mentioned above so we certainly got our moneys worth. I can see why this place has a lot of mixed reviews. I think the most negative common thing I see with the reviews is the service which I can agree on. However, our pizza was really good so I still think you should at least give the place a try. Would I go here for a super nice, romantic dinner-probably not but still a good place to grab a bite.

I don't think the chef even cares about the pizza.. Doesn't seem like authentic Italian. The low reviews are correct. Would not recommend this - only attracts tourists.

Love the over-the-top Italian American decor...very kitschy!
