A super nice older guy standing outside this place talks us into coming in for a drink and sits us on the terrace. We are sitting for 5 minutes and it starts to rain. The waiter goes to extend a plastic covering, the metal pole comes off, swings down and hits my son on the head. They bring a bag of ice and a hat as an apology, but don't really seem too concerned. Then they bring the drinks. The mojito tasted like it had tequila in it. Not good. Then the rain gets more intense and a hole springs in the cover soaking my wife. Now the Baratta was good, but we had had enough. To top it off, they did NOT discount anything and charged us full price for the drinks and appetizer. One night in Rome! We had departed from the 8-day cruise and made our way to our Inn on Via Cavour which is popular street in Rome's city center. We were seeking a good meal and experience - this place was a few steps away from our lodging. We were immediately seated as it was dinner time. The style in Europe - Italy specifically is to enjoy food, together. Savor the courses of food too so they don't move very fast. We started with bruschetta, mussels and salads. Very tasty, fresh and the we added the focaccia bread with olive oil (additional cost). For dinner some of us went traditional and others more casual - hamburger with frites, calamari, ravioli, seafood pasta and spaghetti with meatballs. Some hits, some misses. The burger was a nice cut of meat but bland. The ravioli didn't have spinach and generally bland too. Cocktails were a hit. The Old Fashioned was served near perfect. Tequila Sunrise and Rose were great. Service - very attentive but it's clear this is a tourist stop. The servers stand outside flagging people down to eat. They urged us to order more food or change to a higher menu item. It's family style for appetizers so lots of food is served. Entree portions are good. They did take the ravioli off our tab. Overall, we were short on time but this hit the spot. The location is a few blocks from the Colosseum so getting there was a must! read more

Service was exquisite, along with the food. Let me just say hands down 5 stars for sure. I love the variety of food along with the different types of beverages that they have. Really gorgeous and clean restaurant right near the imperial ruins. I was worried it may be touristy but no! It was calm and such a great atmosphere for a peaceful lunch after exploring the Colosseum! The staff were out of this world-- so friendly and welcoming!! I ordered the grilled chicken and my mom got the chicken Caesar salad. Both were delicious! My mom also ordered the Caffe Shakerato for a post meal pick me up and she said it was the best coffee she's had in Rome thus far! +10pm late night, jet lagged wandering brought us here for late night pizza and carbonara. Carbonara was delicious, and my Hubbie enjoyed his pizza. We sat on the sidewalk and people watched. Turned down a couple of Bangladeshi rose sellers which was our only disruption. Greeter was as handsome as a model and spoke 7 different languages to bring customers in. He and proprietor were attentive and friendly. We enjoyed our visit - and even asked for a to-go box which we hear is a newish thing to do in Rome. Place looks nice from outside....on the other hand, -Drinks took 45 mins and half of them were wrong and kind of not pleasing to drink. One of us got his drink about after 20mins and by the time the rest of us got ours, he was already done with his. -Understaffed. There was one poor boy serving both inside and outside tabla; the place was huge for one server. They had other people working there but weren't helping him out. -Food was terrible. Finally, we got our food and the only thing great were the fries on my plate. On one of our orders, we specifically requested for a gluten-free dish and just as already expected, there surely was gluten in it. Waiter did not know what was on the menu. He couldn't explain anything about their dishes. Notified waiter about allergy and disregarded it. Meat was cold. We had pizzas. The pizzas were small, without tomato sauce and kind of dull looking. However, that slightly poor first impression quickly transfered into joy. Pizzas tasted really really good and the size actually came to be perfect. We had room for dessert!!! I had the most awesome and artistic looking cheesecake and my better half had the tiramisu. The tiramisu was also artsy. It was a huge bubble of white chocolate with stuff inside. The inside stuff revealed itself as the waiter poured hot sauce over to melt the bubble. We came here after a long day of walking around Rome, and wanted something other than Pasta. I ordered the ribeye and my husband ordered the scallops; however they brought out veal for him. This was a wonderful place to eat dinner in Rome. They do have GLUTEN FREE options when it comes to pasta as well. Honestly, we found that Italy was incredibly accommodating when it comes to Gluten issues (more so than France or Spain). We had 3 dishes, which we shared, as well as a lovely bottle of Chianti. We shared a gluten free pasta dish, the smoked prawns, and a cheese & meet plate. We all had dessert, and my husband was even able to get a GF dessert. My daughter and I shared some gelato (which was delicious). I would certainly recommend visiting this place in the Monti area if visiting Rome. Oh I do not even know where to start. "They" say it is impossible to get a bad meal in Italy- yet somehow we managed! Our group of 8 made a reservation here for our first family dinner as it was close to both of our apartments. Despite numerous signs portending a bad outcome (the EDM music, the two large TV screens reminiscent of a Chinese restaurant displaying the food and drink preparations, American style mixed drinks at an Italian restaurant, no other people whatsoever in the restaurant, and reviews touting the close location to the Coliseum) we were optimistic. I must have been truly jet lagged when making this decision :) It started off fine- with welcome glasses of prosecco - until four glasses were spilled right down my back! Luckily we were close to the apt so I was able to quickly change and come back. Even at this we were still OK- mistakes happen, and since it was a welcome drink I could not really complain about that. We were still looking forward to a great meal! We ordered a bottle of Brunello di Montalcino it being our first family meal together, but unfortunately the wine had turned and had to be sent back. I'm not even sure what replaced it but it was not very good. We ordered our antipasti and meals. Unfortunately, the server, while super nice, was very inexperienced and did not seem to understand the concept, nor did the cook (I will not bestow the title of "chef" on whomever cooked this food), of "antipasti" or "starter", as our pastas (SOME of them) started coming out before the starters! My husband's order was missed and we had to flag down the server to add this. While our group started their meals so they would not get cold, our antipasti that had been intended for the table to share came out so my husband and I at least had something to nibble on....or did we....????? My husband went to cut the arancini in half and was met with a frozen golf ball sized ball of cheese. Literally....FROZEN. Needless to say that was sent back. FROZEN food is UNACCEPTABLE. AFTER our group had finished their meals ours finally came. At this point my father in law had still not received his pasta! So we got our meal in three phases. I understand that a kitchen can have a bad night and get in the weeds when it is busy.....oh wait... see above....WE WERE LITERALLY THE ONLY PEOPLE IN THE RESTAURANT!!! The food when we got it other than the frozen golf ball was "OK". Certainly not the "oh my God, I'm back in Italy" moment that we were craving. During this entire time the "manager" was wandering about talking on his cell phone leaving our poor server to twist in the wind. Our server apologetically said "no excuse" and we were given a "free" bottle of wine, actually this just extended the torture as we had to stay longer! Not one item of our meal was comped - even the frozen arancini. No one in any position of management came over to check on us or apologize, even at the first spill- another sign.... The GOOD news is this experience saved us from actually eating here on Christmas day. AND it set the bar so very low that every experience after that was sublime! At every other restaurant we ate at the server made sure to WRITE down the order and confirmed (for their kitchen they told us- as everyone knows the timing of an Italian meal is so important) the order in which starters and pastas were to be served and who had what kind of pasta to time this as well. If food preparation and service is an art this was a kindergarten level class at best. Sad........ read more

We came here twice during our stay in Rome. That's really a powerful statement in itself considering that we wanted to try out a new place each time. The staff and quality of food were so excellent though, that we decided we couldn't avoid coming back for seconds! Charcuterie and small plates are all put together with pairing precision. I really don't think you can go wrong here but I will say that their rack of lamb holds a special place in my heart. If you need suggestions, the wait staff is very helpful and not just trying to up-sell you on stuff like in many places in the area that cater to tourists. This place has a very casual atmosphere but you wouldn't be out of place in a suit and tie. Good vibes and good food. read more
