Brooke was our waitress and WOW. We haven't had a server that incredible in I don't know how long. She was ultra polite and pleasant, ultra efficient, energetic, down-to-earth, and professional. She made it an amazing experience... and we haven't even gotten to the food yet! The blackened tuna was INCREDIBLE... perfectly seasoned and the rice and asparagus were perfection, as well. The frutti di mare was beyond compare! The chocolate Bundt cake was... no words. I need a new word to describe it! (We had it with vanilla ice cream, so can't speak to the taste of the coffee ice cream.) The manager checked in us, mid-meal, and I spoke with him later about Brooke. He was very sweet and gracious. My mom and I have been wanting to try Oscar's for awhile, so I made reservations for her birthday - We were both excited as we had heard great things. I made a reservation in advance, so when we first entered and I saw a bunch of empty booths in the front, also much better lighting/ambiance up front... We were ushered to a back room with bad lighting and sat at an awkwardly placed table right in the middle of the room (it definitely seemed like a room that would be used for personal occasions, not part of the restaurant. So, it felt a bit awkward, we felt like we had to whisper so other people wouldn't hear our conversation. Just not ideal). One of the things I found most disappointing was that as we entered the restaurant, it's very obvious my mother is physically handicapped and has a hard time walking she had her cane, but was still struggling. No one standing in the front paid any attention, offered help - didn't seem to notice or care at all, then the girl seating us was walking so fast through the restaurant we couldn't keep up and she had the nerve to look exasperated. Finally, as silly as it might sound - No bread basket? You shouldn't have to ask for a bread basket at a restaurant like this. It seems Oscar's wants to portray a fine dining establishment, but isn't delivering the experience. The food was good, we will be back. We went here based on local recommendation. My son's buttermilk chicken was good, but could have been better with a little chicken gravy. The fried green tomatoes had some sort of weird topping on it. We've noticed that is the trend in this area. Not sure why. The bacon wrapped fried shrimp was just plain weird. Never have I ever spent 150 dollars on a dinner that my entire family didn't have a drink to go alongside of our meals, not even a glass of water. We saw our server a total of 3 times during the entire hour and half we were at our table. It was disappointing to say the least. No communication from our server nor the management until we specifically requested their assistance when paying our bill to let them know of the situation. I came here for my uncle's 60th birthday. Several family members travelled from New York for the occasion too. We all left drunk, full, and very satisfied. Oscars was completely packed. I would make a reservation here even if you are dinning alone and just want a table. Parking was a tight and confusing situation. (They have that one way slanted lot thing going on). Our waiter was kelvin, his service was great. My family gave me the honor of ordering bottles of wine for the table (more like the embarrassment!) and when kelvin came to tell me the Zinfandel was out, I went with his recommendation for the st. Francis cab. That was the best wine of the night and maybe the top 5 I ever had! I ordered the goat cheese ravioli with side Caesar salad. The Caesar salad is the real deal- they even ask if you want anchovies! Also, you can taste the anchovy in the dressing. I know this is how real Caesar salad is but since most dressings these days seem to not be made using more than a pinch of anchovy paste, I thought it was worth mentioning. Also my table ordered a ton of small plates to share- calamari, cheesy mushrooms, buffalo oysters and shrimp, and fried green tomatoes. The calamari was done perfectly, the texture was exactly what it should be, and it came with a garlic butter drizzle, banana peppers, and feta. Someone asked for hot sauce at our table, which I would never think an upscale restaurant would have lol. Not only did they have hot sauce but our waiter made it himself?!!! Oscars is a lot cooler than I thought it would be now. The sauce was a real crowd pleaser, if you like hot sauces you have to ask for kelvin's sauce. Maybe each waiter has their own speciality! After all the food from appetizer and dinner, some of us were able to try the recommended desserts and coffee. I couldn't try any other then the crack pie. It's a butterscotch pie with oatmeal crust and ice cream topping. Gets its name because it could be fatally addicting. I can't believe it took me this long to try Oscars. A coworker recommended this restaurant and I have mixed feelings about this place. While I checked out the reviews, which were overwhelmimgly positive. We were very enthusiastic to try it. We did not have the experience we expected. We were seated rather quickly which was a plus, but our server took some time in returning to our table. We ordered some wine and an appetizer which took even longer to come back. We saw the carbarna on the menu and decided that was our choice. Absolutely terrible choice! Very dry and tasteless. While I was stationed in Italy for 4 years. I wasn't expecting it to be that quality. I was expecting it to be seasoned and the pasta to be properly cooked. I told my co worker about the experience and he said we should have ordered the steak or seafood which they are known for. Wow. If I'm being completely honest, I didn't want to like this place. I kind of expected an 80s steakhouse that hadn't updated their menu since 1987. Take note, because I don't say this often, but I was wrong! Overall - 5 stars for service, 5 stars for food, maybe 3 for atmosphere (the bar was a little dingy, but hey, I wasn't there for the vibe). Our excellent experience literally started when we pulled in the parking lot. We came on Christmas Eve knowing they were fully booked and were hoping to find a table in the bar area. We asked the parking attendant about the table situation. He confirmed they were booked but offered to go inside and scope out the bar situation. Lucky for us, there was no wait. We were enthusiastically greeted as soon as we walked into the bar area. Our server was eager and bubbly despite having to work Christmas Eve. They had a special limited Christmas Eve menu which included some cocktail specials. My MIL ordered the Dirty Snowman - Kahlua, another liquor I can't remember, and coffee ice cubes. Dangerously delicious and goes down oh so easy! We started with the calamari and the smoked gouda grit cakes appetizers. The calamari was fantastic - served with sliced banana peppers and feta cheese. Both were a surprising enhancement to an already delicious dish. The grit cakes are basically South Carolina on a plate. Cheesy, creamy grits fried and served on a bed of tender, juicy pork barbecue. For my entree I ordered the braised short ribs and a cup of she crab soup. My husband got the ribeye, my FIL got the prime rib special, and my MIL got the shrimp and scallop linguine. I read some of the other reviews about meat being overcooked so cautioned them to order their beef more rare than they normally would. Tonight the meat temps were absolutely spot on! I sampled both and they were perfection. My short ribs were served with a big steak knife for cutting, but it was so tender the knife was completely unnecessary. Just as much love went into the sides of garlic mash and collard greens. The greens had a slight sweet flavor that was surprising and wonderful. When I first came to Summerville in 2013 outside of fast food, they were basically the only game in town, unless you wanted Applebees or O'charleys, etc. Now with Nexton bringing Halls and Fuji and all kinds of burger and Taco places, plus Laura and La Rustica and Bexley's and such popping up in DT Summerville, you have a lot of options, and each place has things it does well. But, the staff led by Kelvin is the best in town, and always has been, plus most employees have been there for years so you feel like home when you walk in. I wish they did brunch every Sunday because their Father's Day Brunch is 5 star, and the prices are a tad too high, but it's hard to stay afloat these days , and I'm all for paying a little extra to have local places around me to eat! read more

You feel like you're at the finest Restaurant in downtown Charleston. Plenty of food and very good to boot. You can't go wrong on anything you choose. I'll preface this review by saying it took place during the pandemic and it was Togo food only. I placed my order for medium rare prime rib and was told to allow them 30 minutes before it would be ready. I arrived to the restaurant a couple minutes early and checked in. My food was already ready and waiting on the patio table. When I got home I noticed my medium rare prime rib was far from medium rare. The wasn't a speck of pink anywhere to be found. Not even when I cut it. This was cooked far beyond medium rare and we were in the well done category. I'm not a fan of well done and so I didn't like the prime rib at all. What was really good was the mashed potatoes and the peanut butter pie. That brought the experience up to 2 stars. Unfortunately at that price point I expected a lot more and honestly won't try them again as I hate wasting money. read more

We went on a week day for lunch and despite the lunch buffet looking very appetizing, I spotted shrimp & grits on the menu and had to order it! It was delicious! I can't say that it was the best shrimp and grits I have ever devoured, as I am a true southerner and have tried many in my life, but Oscar's was top notch! It was different than others I have tried but still very tasty and I devoured the whole thing! Some of my family did choose the lunch buffet and each one remarked that they enjoyed it! The lunch buffet included several pasta options, fried chicken, pork ribs, veggies, an assortment of salads and several mouthwatering desserts. Next time I may have to get the lunch buffet as well! Upon entering the restaurant I almost wanted to run home and change into more formal attire but once I looked around, the lunch crowd is all dressed very casually so I felt comfortable. I definitely would not go here in the evening dressed casual though! This would make an excellent date night option! Let me also commend our superb and very attentive waiter. I wish I could recall his name but it has slipped my mind. He has been there for 16 years, I believe he said, which in and of itself says a lot about this business and it's owners! In town for the holidays and after being stuck in the house for 3 days, we ventured out to Oscars. That was our first mistake. We had heard great things, but only one word describes this place, underwhelming. The food was mediocre and under seasoned. However, the dessert was good. Maybe they should turn this into a dessert spot? The drinks were super sweet and did not have enough alcohol. They were stingy with the bread and only gave our table wheat bread when the other tables were given two types of bread. When we asked the waiter why, he stated, they only had one type of bread ready. I'm so confused. Additionally, I'm confused about the concept of this place. Is it an upscale seafood restaurant or a Mexican restaurant? Why are chips and salsa being given out? Whose idea was the seafood burrito???? So in the end, if you like paying astronomical prices for a very limited menu and mediocre food, this is the place for you! read more
