Was looking for a breakfast place with parking lot big enough for our RV. Oscar's cafe fit the bill. Located in a large strip mall. Entered and greeted friendly and told to sit anywhere. We chose the counter sitting. Fifties style cafe. Very cool and interesting decor. We were excited to order. Service was kind and quick. My husband and I both ordered omelets. I ordered ham , veggies and cheese. Could have used more cheese. My hash browns were not cooked enough. My husband also felt his was lacking cheese( cheese omelette) and that his eggs were over cooked. They ran about $14.00 each, not cheap. Coffee $4.00. The coffee was good and served hot.

Just so I can pass by each day Not a single word do we say It's a pantomime and not a play After a short wait, we settled into a nice Booth at "Oscar's Cafe"... The Lass, morning dined, on.. "Hunter's Breakfast" Corned beef hash, served with two eggs, hashbrowns. She said it was most delish w. a smile..:) The Lad, grubbed on.. "Oscar's Chicken Fried Steak" Topped with breakfast country gravy, served with hashbrowns (hold the eggs). This was the most juicy, perfectly cooked scrumptious Chicken Fried Steak of all time! The gravy and from scratch hash browns, more like a Latke wanna be, were sinfully good. Washed down w. a glass of "OJ" by the Lass and a glass of "Cranberry Juice" by the Lad. First of all, the vibe is fun!! What a retro diner feel! Better than the vibe is the food. It was cooked perfectly!! We had an amazing breakfast!

Oscar's is a hometown hidden gem where only the locals go. It's in strip mall tucked away from the tourists. But for the lucky tourists that do find it oh my are you in for some excellent food and friendly people and cutely decorated slice of heaven. They served actual homemade hash browns not that frozen premade kind. Extra crispy didn't even have to ask. I ordered my all time favorite eggs Benedict and it was the best on the planet hands down or up. Thin sliced ham, crispy English muffins and rich hollandaise sauce. Sometimes I wish I could eat way more than I can but I just can't. I also had some of the best tea from Sundrop Tea. They are on instagram. I bought a box of jasmine moon. I'm picking it up tomorrow due to her being out of it today. The place was extremely clean and fun to look around.

Fantastic breakfast location! We were all Pleased with what we ordered and the staff was very helpful. They were slammed on a summer Saturday morning, but we did not feel rushed or under servers! Highly recommend!

We didn't have to wait too long to be seated. It's a small spot. Eggs were good. Omelet was good. Bacon was excellent! Pancakes and syrup however were not. I was hungry but could not eat more than a few bites. Something was off. Customer service was outstanding. read more

We had to wait a few minutes on Saturday morning, but was definitely worth the wait. The food was amazing. We had typical breakfast fare. It was perfectly prepared. The service was excellent. We stopped in for breakfast on a Colorado bike tour. Food was great! You have to try the green chile! Great coffee snd we got to talk to Paula for a while. She had great stories about the million dollar highway and lots of suggestions of where to go ride bikes. We look forward to going back. 39 year old business going strong and filled with locals and people like us. read more

Ask for Beth as your server! She's the best!!! Super cute, retro, classic diner food. We stopped in on our road trip and LOVED it. This is such a wonderful place to eat. It seems to be the place the locals go. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is very fun. It is a place that is good for kids and adults alike. My kids got the chicken strips and they were amazing. They tasted like they were made with funnel cake batter! My wife got the southwest chicken sandwich and loved it. They have a large diverse menu and it is all very reasonably priced. Don't leave without dessert. There pies are to die for! read more

I use to enjoy coming here until the server started being very unprofessionally rude. Rolled her eyes. Rushed me to order and ignored me the entire time while everyone else got service (refills and silverware). Worse service I ever got. If you like good service and nice service I recommend DURANGO DINER on main who have great customer service. read more

Excellent and authentic Rueben sandwich and I'm from NY and Boston. Onion rings were good. Seated immediately at the counter and served in time for me to get somewhere. Staff very nice and friendly. They seemed to know the locals and greeted them . Big parking lot. Was better than I expected from a strip mall place I just happened upon by accident. Has a diner feeling despite that. read more

Visiting the area and someone suggested we give Oscar's a try. We were very pleased with the food and the outstanding service. My wife had the Chili Verde over hashbrowns and eggs on top. She loved and the sample I had was great. I had their sausage and eggs, opting for the patties over the links. Definitely the right choice. The patties were outstanding. Our server was Riki and she was helpful, thoughtful, and had a great attitude. We will try to get back again before we leave the area. read more

The wait was only about 10 to 12 minutes, but could of been shorter if more staff. During 8 minutes of that wait there were two tables where the people had left but they couldn't get time to clean them off. Now that being said it was worth the wait as the Denver Omelet I had was perhaps the best I've ever had! Will go back regardless of the wait! read more

It was really busy, but I had a feeling it would be from the reviews. My daughter and son in law both got Chicken fried steak, the steak was tender and the Garvey was really good. I had the two eggs, toast and fruit. The eggs were perfect and the variety of fruit was wonderful, my other daughter had bacon and eggs, she said it was really good, and my grandson had a pancake that was the size of a plate. He usually doesn't finish his pancakes, but he loved this one. We all left happy. read more

Was disappointed to find they don't offer breakfast all day long (with the exception of omelets) and ended up ordering the BLTA with a side of fruit. $5 for a fruit bowl seemed steep, until large pieces of fresh cut fruit arrived! Located in a shopping plaza, so plan on a small dining experience. Sunday morning was fairly crowded but seated right away. Staff was super sweet, never got any refills. But they serve you, you and you go. No lingerieng, as people are waiting for you to go, to get them seated. The food was goodd! Got the farmers breakfast, scramble eggss were sooo good. Got my pancake blueberry it was good just wished the syrup was thicker. read more

Walked in a little before 8 on a Monday morning and it was busy. This place sort of reminded me of Cheers, cause there were certainly the regulars that staff knew by name. With that said, they didn't treat us "out of towners" any differently. Ask for recommendations and the server came back with four or five, all with French toast. So I ordered French toast with my bacon, eggs, and hash browns. Everything was very good, especially those French toast. read more

Wife and I stayed 5 days in Durango and ate Oscars for breakfast/brunch 4 out of those 5 days. This family owned joint has a great atmosphere and busy diner feel yet oddly you feel at home. We loved watching the toy train ride around the entire perimeter of the diner. The food is off the chains delicious. Pick anything on the menu, seriously, it's all amazing. Bottom line: if you're in Durango, take your a$$ to Oscar's! read more

I have loved coming here for a long time, I recently moved away and this was one of the stops I had to have for the pork green chili. I knew they were under new ownership and was a little nervous but to my surprise the food was still very good. I am leaving a bad review for our waitress, Charissa. From the start she was a little stand offish. The rest of my party got their food and I was waiting and was not acknowledged that my food had not arrived. Waited at least 10 minutes before having to go up to the counter to ask her about my food after everyone at my table has already finished eating. Then once I was done eating we waiting for 15 minutes before having to go to the counter to ask for our check from the owner when she then continued to promote another business to some gentleman at the counter we received the check after she finished her conversation. The owner seemed very nice and we love the diner atmosphere! read more

This is a wonderful diner. Small restaurant but large portions. Fills up fast so you might have to get in line for a table or counter seat. It is fun to watch the train go around the room by the ceiling. The cinnamon rolls are heavenly. Very large with a fantastic taste. read more

First, the good stuff. Live music and lots of seating is always a plus. We had a party of nine and were able to find seating both inside and outside - not together but at two tables, next to one another. Totally cool. The wait staff were all pretty friendly and even though there were signs everywhere to bus your own tables, we did have folks stop by to take away our dishes and check on things. Everyone was smiling and in good moods. One of our dishes was tasty as well: lots of love for the fish and chips. We also ordered the chicken sandwich and loaded fries. Both were alright. The sandwich was bland and clocked in at $20 when you added cheese. It did come with fries, but isn't affordable. Same for the loaded fries: a smaller portion and needed more cheese. I would have loved sour cream as well. Sadly, also not affordable. The worst item, though, was our mozzarella sticks and salsa. These guys had zero flavor, weren't seasoned and weren't warm enough. I'm positive these were from a frozen bag. If someone from management is reading, def change brands/vendors. These were tasteless. We ordered drinks, all with mixed reviews expect my spicy Paloma (Paloma Inferno). The marg was too sweet and not balanced. The parents ordered crown and ginger ale. No Sprite or 7Up products so ginger ale, it was. The issue there was the way the staff made it. They added the alcohol, then poured the ginger ale, and topped it with ice. Completely backwards and created a watered down drink immediately. Overall, we ordered two entrees, two appetizers and had four cocktails. $120 with tip. Absolutely not affordable. You shouldn't need to order at the counter, seat yourself, grab your own waters and bus your own tables for these prices. The food should align as well.

Shameful experience…read more I was enjoying some live music on a Friday evening when the owner came out and began yelling profanities and threatening a former employee in full display of the other patrons. He shouted at him saying "Get the F out of my bar" and "I can't wait to see you in town so I can beat your a$s". What a joke! This person clearly has zero understanding of hospitality or leadership, to say the least. Behavior like this from management is likely why the place is going out of business. Don't waste your time or money.

My 17 year old son is a train efficionado and I can tell he secretly loves going to Oscars because of the atmosphere that takes you about 30 or 40 years into another era. He is a real history buff and loves striking up a conversation with one of the owners about train modeling amongst the laughs and good food coming out of the kitchen. We go here to relax, to just have an icecream sundae, to share a huge slice of home made pie packed with flavor or to buy a bottomless cup of good coffee with a good greasy spoon breakfast. Yeah, there's the fruit and healthy options here, but I can't help but splurging at Oscars. read more

THIS! IS! THE! PLACE!! I absolutely love Oscar's cafe. The atmosphere of the little diner in a small mountain town. Serving up fresh hot coffee and some outstanding breakfast! We spent a long time waiting to see if she would ask whether we needed anything or if we were finished. It wasn't as though she had to go out of her way to reach us--she walked past our table numerous times while serving her other tables. Because of the lack of attention, I once again had to get her attention to let her know we were finished and ask for a dessert menu. I ordered the Dubai Chocolate dessert to go after she highly recommended it. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the description once I had a chance to eat it. The chocolate flavor was very mild, and the crunchy layer on the bottom was not particularly enjoyable nothing like a Dubai Chocolate. Overall, the food was excellent and deserving of praise. However, for a fine dining restaurant where both the food and drinks come at premium prices, the service fell well short of expectations. Great meals can make for a memorable evening, but attentive service is an important part of the fine dining experience, and unfortunately that was missing during our visit.
