Oscar's is my absolute favorite breakfast spot in Durango! We visit Durango at least twice a year and I have to stop in and have a cinnamon roll every visit. The cinnamon roll is as big as a plate and so is the breakfast burrito, my husband and I like split each and we leave stuffed. If my husband isn't up for sharing my next go to is the Verde Breakfast, smaller than the breakfast burrito but just as tasty. If you are in a hurry to get to slopes you can order to go handheld burritos just as big and tasty. The place is small and cramped but they turn tables quickly so even if there is a wait it's not too long. They won't sit you until your entire party is there, just fyi and they are only open until 2pm most days, noon on Sunday! read more

Nothing new to report. This is an outstanding cafe / diner stop. Great breakfast and burger selection and prep. Hard working, friendly staff. A great value for a quality meal and service. And...you can have "green" on anything you order. Have stopped in here frequently over many years. Two / three times during a one-week visit. I questioned if there would be issues with recent change in ownership. The answer is no. This team, headed by Guy is doing a great job enhancing a Durango jewel. I highly recommend Oscar's Cafe for breakfast or lunch. The food is delicious and prepared to order. The portion sizes are "ginormous". The service is excellent. The owner is engaging and involved with the daily operation of the business. But be forewarned, He has a great sense of humor! The ambience is eclectic and filled with old world memorabilia. It's like stepping back into the 1950's. They even had Elvis music playing in the background. I promise you will enjoy if not love Oscar's Cafe. read more

AWESOME! Oscar's Cafe is a great little diner tucked into the strip center between the Walgreens and City Market. The interior is tastefully decorated with local memorabilia. The menu is wide, and everything that our group had was great, so good that we are planning to come back for breakfast! They bake their own pies, and the blueberry pie was spectacular!! We also had a great banana cream pie as well. Can't wait to try breakfast! Update; the next morning we went back for breakfast before we left town. We split a cinnamon roll, and WOW! It was the best cinnamon roll that I have had in a long, long time! It was so good that we got two to go and brought them home for breakfast, and they were good the then as well. I really wish I took a picture of this cute "blast to the past" diner. We stopped here on our way to Mesa Verde National Park- after a 6 hour drive from Denver, it was the perfect spot to refuel on such yumminess!! I ordered the Durango Burger Melt (with a side of 1000 Island sauce), and it hit the spot. Simple, but it was between two perfectly buttered and crispy breads- it actually tasted like garlic bread, which was such a great surprise! Definitely recommend for those who are passing by! I can see this diner being overlooked in a large plaza, but do give it a try! There's also ample parking, so there's no excuse! read more

We stopped here for a Sunday morning breakfast. Luckily we checked in online because there was an hour wait. We did get in pretty much when the online check in said. This isn't much of a place to look at- small and narrow and I could see how the closeness could turn someone off. We were seated on bar stools. There's a lot of hustle and bustle. The wait staff have their movements worked out to a science of efficiency . Now to the food. I ordered a French toast meal. That was far and away the BEST French toast I've ever had. My DH had a Denver omelet and had no complaints. If given the chance I'd return here. read more

The staff here is very friendly and welcoming. I had the vegetarian omelet while my husband ordered the BLT with Avocado. Both were good. It can get pretty crowded and because of that it's pretty noisy. We've visited a few times and the end result seems to depend upon who is cooking that day. What a fun little diner! I do mean little btw...if you come on a weekend morning for breakfast be prepared to stand awkwardly in the way of the servers and patrons as there isn't any place to wait. Don't let that tempt you into leaving though! The service was phenomenal. The employees have perfected a dance... They weave in-between customers and tables without knocking anyone or thing over. It's fascinating to watch! They also seem to have a six sense for when your coffee cup has reached a point of needing to be filled and your water glass is never half empty. They also genuinely seemed happy to be there and serving you! A lost art for most places. While I do think they will eventually need to invest in a larger space...it will be a shame for them to leave the current one. The whole place is fun and eclectic without being tacky. Oh and did I mention the model train that makes laps around the whole place above your head? Cause they have that. Now to the food....this wasn't the best breakfast I've ever had. No one will ever accuse them of being posh or hipster. Yet, it did remind me of those Saturday mornings of my childhood when my dad would make biscuits and gravy from scratch. Fluffy filling biscuits and tasty sausage gravy generously poured over! This was the very definition of comfort breakfast. I do like my gravy to have plenty of pepper and so I did have to add more, but I'm just a peppery person. My husband's French toast was crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside...in our opinion just the way it should be. He loved how crisp the bacon and hash browns were. The coffee was good and I had no problems drinking 4 cups. If you leave hungry this will be from your doing, not theirs. They try their hardest to make sure you eat heartily. Unfortunately I don't have a good review here. The last time I ate here as a Durango local, this restaurant was owned by someone else and the food and service was great. However, today's breakfast was in our opinion the worst. We both had eggs Benedict and the sauce tasted from a package, the English muffin wasn't cooked at all and was soggy. Both eggs, the English muffins and half the plate were completely sloppily slathered with what seemed an entire package of hollandaise sauce. I couldn't even identify, not taste the eggs once i started eating. Needless to say it was all left on the plate. We dined with 2 friends, their meals they said were okay however they were delivered 10 minutes before ours. Bad service, bad food. Such a bummer as I loved this place but the quality of the food has gone way down. I hope the owners read this review and make some improvements. read more

I wanted to love this place. But alas I didn't. Let's start with you can wait in your car. Live that. They call you when they can seat you. They sat us at the counter. No problem. I had the biscuit and gravy with eggs over easy. My husband had the sausage with eggs and Hasbrouck with gravy and a biscuit and a side of tomatoes. The gravy fell way short. It was so freaky it broke. And thankfully I ordered over easy eggs because I would have hated to see what over medium looked like. Just too done. My whimpy bacon was perfect. I would give this place a solid 5 but it was just a little crazy. The wait time was 9 to 19 minutes. You can go ahead and tell me 10 to 20 and I can get that. Kinda strange but when you meet the owner, you can understand. She was very nice but just went on and on about Durango loosing 12 restaurants due to Covid. Keep up the good work and you will stay in business. Keep complaining and you will loose business. Kinda relax. You have a waiting line on a Tuesday morning. I really don't want to know about 12 places closing. Let's just talk about how Oscars is surviving. So I had a delicious omelette filled with bacon and avocado. The hash browns were also delicious. They had really good coffee. They had really good wait staff. All the ladies were hustling and working together to help each other. They can turn tables here and they do a good job of getting it done. The owner was partial to the local folks but I do understand this as they will return time and time again. Picked up a breakfast burrito to go. It was good but not great. Service was awesome so I'd go back for a sit down breakfast.

Always late for breakfast; in my mind, their popular fried potatoes and French Toast. I then decided I must have a piece of pie with my lunch so I ordered grilled cheese with tomato, side of fries and Chocolate Cream Pie. The Pie was topped with a non dairy whipped creamer, the filling was just barely enough and the crust was fabulously flaky. Counter service was fast and fun, a learning experience. Oscar's was recommended by a friend of mine & it did not disappoint. We put our name on the Yelp wait list for "first available." When it was our turn to be seated, we sat outside at a table on the sidewalk. (beggars can't be choosers). No matter. Our server was polite & on the ball. Hubs ordered special - Eggs Benedict & I ordered the 1/2 & 1/2 Biscuits and Gravy & Green Chili. I did ask for tobasco and I was brought their homemade hot sauce. Only complaint - a little too salty. So I love chile rellenos and I think I have found the best ones in Durango at the most unlikely place. No Oscar's cafe is not a Mexican restaurant, they are a locally owned Diner. With all the Diner classics, Onion Rings, Chili, BLT sandwiches and breakfast of all varieties. Which all are great, truely if you love French Toast this is your place. But the secret I have discovered is every Friday morning Oscar's runs a breakfast special of huevos rancheros with a Chile Relleno!! I had to order it, curious but in the back of my brain knowing Ocars does make an incredible green chili, maybe they will do this right too. It arrives and I gazed at the relleno, it was golden and perfectly fried. It also wasn't smothered in sauce, thus defeating the crispy goodness with soggy disappointment. (Why people do that, I have no idea) Instead it was resting on the green chili sauce like a floating golden delight. The first bite was just as my eyes had assumed, crispy, cheesey, not oily and the chile wasn't hot nor completely bland,... Bliss. I do enjoy a spicey relleno but it is not a requirement. What is a requirement is crispy breading and interior cheesey goodness. This relleno hits the mark. Also the chile is properly cleaned and prepared, no accessive seeds, fibers, skin or stem. And hey the huevos rancheros are also awsome, just a side bonus in my book. Now for the draw backs to Durangos best Chile Relleno. 1) Its only available at breakfast on Friday 2) You only get one But have no fear you can pay extra to get an additional chile relleno on your plate. read more

We registered as requested upon arrival at Oscars/Durango. Two staff said 5 min wait. Fine, however, cleared a table for four and continued to make us wait. We were only 2 waiting. No customers (4) or more waiting. Server still would not seat us. I expressed why would you not seat a sure income in hopes that a party of 4 might show up. We have frequented Oscars when we are in Durango. Done, if they didn't want my business on Wednesday, they don't need my business anymore. read more

This place runs a brisk breakfast and lunch business. It's tiny tiny, and you can hit a line if you come on the weekends. The service is fast and no nonsense. No expectations of 5 star service as this is a diner through and through. Our beverages were refilled multiple times and the food came quickly. I had a Rueben with onion rings and my husband had a grilled turkey sandwich with friends. Both delicious and generously sized. Quick, tasty lunch, which is exactly what we came there for. Quick note, as we dined right before Christmas. This place offers homemade pies and there were quite a few locals picking up multiple pies for the holiday. We were stuffed, so didn't get a chance to have dessert, but I'd recommend it if you have room. The locals seem to like all of them! read more

The place itself is pretty cool, yet a little claustrophobic small location. If you are from NM I'd definitely stay away from the green Chile it's not the same, almost tasted like hormel canned chili. I really wanted to try the chicken fried steak but we got there to late only until 11am ended up getting a burger pretty hard to mess that up so it was ok. Overall i probably wouldn't stop by again but it's an ok place. read more

Ate here on Saturday, October 8, at 11:30 am. Unfortunately, they stop serving breakfast at 11 am (except for omelets and breakfast burritos, son was out of luck since he wanted a stack of pancakes). The interior is really cool, a live model train rounds the tracks above the customer's heads. Looks of cool memorabilia and photos on the walls including a map of Colorado by the bathrooms with distances to major cities. It was packed when we walked in but they found us the very back table by the bathrooms. The service was awesome. The busboy and waitress were extremely friendly and offered recommendations. The iced tea was fresh and tasted great. Let me warn you, the portions are huge. My son reluctantly ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries, my wife got the breakfast burrito and fries (which she didn't finish) and I got the veggie omelet with bacon and fries. One complaint, not sure how they season their fries, but they were rather sweet. None of us liked the sweetness very much. Would have given four stars if the fries hadn't been sweet and we could have ordered breakfast. read more
