We weren't sure about the place when we walked in. But we got a parking spot right in front of the door, and a table for 6 was empty and waiting for our party of 5. The waitress was friendly and helpful. I didn't want hash browns, but the only substitution was sliced tomatoes. No grits. Not in the south anymore. We all ordered different items: chilli relleno with beans and eggs and toppings (nephew said the relleno was too doughy, but he didn't have room to finish it), egg over hard with grits & sausage (little niece who ate all but hash browns), biscuit and gravy with eggs, bacon, sausage, & hash browns (husband ate everything, but half the biscuit - loved getting full), Denver omelet with hash browns (Mama niece - hash browns were just okay, and little niece & I concurred), & my egg over easy came with English muffin and hash browns (loved it all except for hash browns). This place was busy! Someone was always waiting for a table - coming and going didn't stop in the 30 minutes we were inside. A VERY small and tight place, but run extremely efficiently. Food was good and service was good. This restaurant gets good ratings so we tried it for breakfast. My husband had the bacon and eggs and I had the bacon and avocado omelette. Both were tasty and filling. Neither of us cared for the hash browns. We asked for them crispy but they were a bit dry. Pretty sure they make their own and they leave the skins on making them a little bitter. The omelette had a ton of bacon and at least a half of avocado inside. Unfortunately, they have gone to a online sign in Which we obey by but the process seems to get us no better seats. Third morning in a row that we ate there the two couple in front of us sit by the window without reservations while we were seated in the back corner to receive cold coffee And to look at a wall our next visit we were set at the counter by the cash register, we got to enjoy an elbow in my wife's face, maybe 20 inches With shoulders, turned sideways to eat. Looking for a different place for breakfast before we leave. Oscar came recommended by some locals - so off we go for a brisk walk. When we get here there are 2 couples ahead of us. No problem, a short wait and we managed to get a table, although there was seating at the counter. Food ordered, Denver with Oscar' Famous Hash Browns, County Road 203 Omelet with hash browns, 1 coffee & 1 hot chocolate. Drinks arrived, watered down coffee???? Thought it was an anomaly, but subsequent cups were equally diluted. Probably the best profit margin in the house and it's watered down? Hot chocolate equally watery. Food was meh, average and the famous hash browns should not have been. Disappointing to say the least. We'll pass this one up next time maybe you should too! read more

A friend and I decided to pop into this little gem of a place. I had eaten here years ago and remembered that the food was excellent. So had to try it again. I had their Uncle Rueben sandwich. I highly recommend it! One of the best I have had in a while. Our server Shane was on it and we now have a local nickname there of "Grill my junk". Haha. Will be going back for sure. My dad and son and I went out for breakfast. We were visiting from out of state. This is overdue and as always you can count on a delicious breakfast cooked to order. I like bacon and hash browns well done which they did! Most restaurants sort of get one or the other well done but Oscar's makes it the way you like it! Done right, affordable and a diner with lots of character. Please note that you can put yourself on their waiting list through Yelp before you get there. This is probably our favorite place to grab breakfast whenever we are in town. We are not from Durango area but we eat here almost every morning if we are going to do breakfast. The cafe itself is small, but the food is the BEST. The staff is friendly and hard working, great service always. Good music playing and lots of cool things to look at in the walls. Walked in and it was busy, waiting for a table 15 min , two others walked in with their own coffee drinks and the waitress sits them down as I'm standing right next to them. Ordered an omelette, the food was ok but dropping a blob of scrambled eggs on top of the ingredients that are supposed to inside doesn't make an omelette then charging extra for toast?? Really tasty breakfast! The verdes bowl was delicious and the pancake was huge! The space is fairly small, loud, and cramped but the food is fast and the staff are friendly. Look for the train inside! I also thought it was nice that you can check in to the wait list on yelp ahead of time. We will be back, we want to try some pie! read more

went here after seeing and reading reviews, honestly me and my wife were shocked by how bad the food was, the help was fine, but over-all not a place I would revisit. the sausage was cold and shunk up like it was made 1 hour ago, the hash brown same totally over oily from sitting to long and burnt and cold. If I could give a negative 5 starts I would. We used to come to Oscar's every time we came to town and it was great. Today we were greeted with such rudeness. I was excited to come here for the chile verde, but, a tiny bit let down, honestly. I went with the "Tio", a cheese omelette with chile verde and hash browns. Everything tasted good, nice mildly spicy chile with good flavor, and the omelette was...well, a pretty standard cheese omelette. Hash browns could have been a little more done to my preference, but then...I also could have asked for them to be a little more done, so that's a whatever. I do like that the waitress asked me if I wanted hot sauce, after putting basically half a plate of green chile in front of me - no, I'm good, haha. Unfortunately, the plates were freeeeeezing, and as a result, my food was just warm when I started and pretty cold by the time I got to the end of it (and I definitely ate all of it). Plus a scoop of cool red salsa on top of the omelette kind of helped things to cool off faster. There are a lot of options on the menu, lots of other things to try, but the cold plate kind of puts me off a little. They wouldn't have to be so hot I couldn't touch them, just...not refrigerated. But, complaint aside, I would come back to give this another shot, because, as I said, the food itself tastes pretty good, and I love chile verde. Otherwise, prices are reasonable and the service was good. Worth noting that I was in early on a Wednesday morning and about had the place to myself, but I can see this getting busy later in the mornings and on the weekends especially. read more

We are visiting Durango and decided to try this quaint place not only for breakfast one day but lunch the next. The breakfast was fast, and absolutely delicious. They made fun pancakes for the kiddos and I ordered the Tijuana Tasty omelette and it was so delicious! Oscar's is my absolute favorite breakfast spot in Durango! We visit Durango at least twice a year and I have to stop in and have a cinnamon roll every visit. The cinnamon roll is as big as a plate and so is the breakfast burrito, my husband and I like split each and we leave stuffed. If my husband isn't up for sharing my next go to is the Verde Breakfast, smaller than the breakfast burrito but just as tasty. If you are in a hurry to get to slopes you can order to go handheld burritos just as big and tasty. The place is small and cramped but they turn tables quickly so even if there is a wait it's not too long. They won't sit you until your entire party is there, just fyi and they are only open until 2pm most days, noon on Sunday! read more
