Last year, someone left this unassuming business card on my gate. They did not come into my yard. They did not knock on the door. Just politely left the card on my gate. I liked that. So I kept the card. This year I needed some trees removed. About 40. I Yelped around and called three places that had good reviews. One was a big local service company. Another medium sized. And finally, I called an independent. The independent never returned my call. The medium sized company scheduled a time to come give an estimate, but never showed up. I scheduled with the big locals, and then I remembered the card. I called Oscar and he came over within the hour. He gave me such a reasonable quote that I called the big company and canceled the appointment (3 days in advance, mind you). I am a sucker for an underdog, and besides the price he was very nice. His crew came out the next day. They were fast and efficient and fun to watch. My kids had a blast watching the main tree climber. If you have never seen a man scramble up a 25 foot tall, 4" diameter hackberry tree, and then cut it apart as he shimmies down it, you need to. It was better than the circus for the kiddos. I had Oscar come out again to remove a very tall dead tree out of my front yard and prune another tree that was thick with branches. Oscar gave me a very reasonable price and his team did an amazing job removing the tree bit by bit with ropes to protect my house from falling limbs and ground the stump down below ground and covered it with dirt. Our beautiful, large tree in the backyard started to look sick, and one day I noticed that it was split in half! It looked like it was struck by lightning and needed to be removed. I called the two companies that had the highest ratings on Yelp; Oscar Ponce and an arborist. Oscar came out the same day and told me that it wasn't from lightning but had been split for a long time and probably just now was noticeable. He said we should cut that part off, trim the other dead branches and save the tree. He quoted me a very fair price and said he could do the work the following day. The arborist came out as well and looked at the tree. He declined the job saying that it would take several months to get to us and the tree needed help immediately. He said the same thing as Oscar, that the part that was damaged needed to be cut and the rest of the tree was fine. Oscar and his team came out the next evening and trimmed the tree within one hour. A Live Oak in front of the house needed its branches trimmed back from the roof along with removing dead branches and raising the canopy of the tree. Recalling the excellent work of Oscar and team, I called him first, and he came out the same day to do an assessment. I also had him assess the tree that his team trimmed the first time they came to the house (it had been some time, so I thought to get his assessment). He gave me an assessment and told me what his team would do with both trees, all of which sounded good to me. When it came time to discussing pricing for both trees, Oscar gave me a great price that came well under other quotes that I got using Yelp. We agreed to a time and day and they arrived the team arrived when they said they would. They worked diligently and quickly, and both trees look great, especially the Live Oak! After they finished, Oscar and I reviewed both trees and he answered by questions regarding trimming the more of the branches of the Live Oak. He explained how trimming more of the branches would have a negative impact on the tree and advised against it. Oscar and his team did a fantastic job! I was concerned about a couple of nuisance trees growing near a utility line in my backyard so I called Oscar for an estimate. He showed up in the evening the same day, listened to my needs and concerns, and made his recommendations. Removing the nuisance trees near the utility line could be a safety issue for his workers. Oscar suggested that they cut down the trees and kill the stumps. We also decided to trim a very tall neighbor's tree that's rubbing against my roof and chimney, and raised the canopy of two live oaks and one crape myrtle. The quote was reasonable and he would be able to get it done in two days. Deal. The team showed up as scheduled. Everyone was courteous. They worked quickly and got the job done in a bit more than two hours. My trees now look taller and beautiful. I don't have to worry that the roots/stumps of nuisance trees would make the utility line explode and kill me in my sleep. The neighbor's tree no longer rubs my roof but still provides plenty of shade. The workers cleaned up everything before they left. A job well done! My tree froze, twisted, and cracked in the ice overnight, so I really needed service fast before it fell on the house because the branches overhang the living room. I'm just a working girl, so I also needed someplace that was not too hard on the pocketbook. I called Oscar while there was still ice on the ground at 8am, at 10 he came by and gave me an extremely reasonable quote, and by noon the work was done, cleaned up, and they even cut the trunk and branches into firewood and stacked it! I asked him how far in advance I needed to schedule the work to be done and he just asked for 2 days notice! I hired them to remove a 80ft oak tree that had gigantic roots extending 5-10ft past the trunk, and to prune some branches from another tree that hung over the roof of my home. I hired Oscar and his crew to trim 1 medium and 2 large trees in my yard. The pricing was fair and they did an outstanding job trimming all 3 trees (2 live oaks / 1 red oak). The red oak needed quite a bit of work and they left all 3 looking so clean by trimming off all the small and decaying branches. Oscar Ponce and his team are super!! The house I had purchased had overgrown trees and bushes obscuring our view. Some of the trees were growing toward and onto our roof. Oscar met with me beforehand, and gave me immediate quote - very reasonable. On the day of service, Oscar and his crew arrived punctually, and began to work. Oscar was very professional. He proved he had insurance right away, which had been a problem with another contractor who made a bid and said he had insurance that was never forthcoming. He also did the work right away rather than dragging things out. Furthermore, Mr Ponce did a small job for me, which some of them either won't do or want to charge excessively for or make you wait ages for. He did it for a very reasonable price and his workers blew the debris off the roof after they were done from my neighbor's shed. I really appreciate the fact that they did this for such a good price because I needed to stretch an insurance settlement, so I can fix my neighbor's roof that had a tree of mine come down on it. The insurance was willing to pay for tree removal, but not for damages to her roof or our fence. Now maybe I can actually get it all fixed without having to spend money I don't have. I figured if I could get someone to safely remove the tree trunk away from the fence and off her roof without doing further damage, then I could then get her roof fixed and could just chop the wood up myself. So this was a big relief for me. If I had had lots of money to throw away, then I would have had this old hackberry cut down ages ago. So I am very glad for businesses like Mr. Ponce's. I visited Yelp when seeking someone to trim our live oak trees in our yard. We have approximately 20 live oaks that had not been trimmed for a number of years. Oscar came out and gave me a very reasonable quote, however, I chose him for his knowledge and courteous approach. He and his team came out on Tuesday and worked a long day, were back on Wednesday and finished by 1:00. Wow, it would have taken us weeks to do only half what they did.
