I have to say "I AM IMPRESSED WITH THIS SUSHI RESTAURANT". The price didn't break the bank and the quality of food we ordered was exceptional. Fresh made sushi, the miso soup was soothing and the way it should be. Some restaurant offer the miso soup that's over salted. Professional and courteous customer service. We will definitely coming back when the sushi crave hits. Quality of food: A+++ Quality of service: A++ Price: Reasonable.

We were planning on going to a sushi place down the road, but for some reason it was closed. The universe was telling us to go somewhere else and I am so happy we did! It's a cute place with plenty of seating! Amazing rolls. Amazing service. Stayed past close on accident (so sorry!!) & they were still so sweet and understanding. Crunchy munchy - huge with yummy fried onions and big pieces of scallops Monster roll Red dragon Ninja roll but with crab salad instead of crab sticks. We loved the whole experience. We even stayed late a bit past their hours cause we weren't paying attention and then staff was sooo sweet. I would definitely come back when I'm in the area. Give this place a try!

Osaka Sushi - Modesto, CA I've found my new go-to sushi spot in Modesto! Osaka Sushi completely blew me away -- especially with the Texas Roll. If you're into bold flavor, this roll is it. Perfectly crispy, a little spicy, and packed with flavor in every bite. I honestly could have ordered two just for myself! The spicy garlic edamame deserves its own round of applause. It's the perfect appetizer -- tossed in a savory garlic sauce with just enough kick to wake up your taste buds. We were fighting over the last pods at the table! I also ordered the veggie tempura, and it was super light and crispy -- not overly greasy like at some places. You could tell the veggies were fresh, and the tempura batter was perfectly golden.

I used to have their CA Rolls delivered and thought they were good. But dining in was a better experience. Service was fast and friendly. Menus were huge and impressive. Terriyaki ribeyes were inhaled by me and my husband. My son loved his Kamikaze roll and everything on our table. We also shared a Rainbow Roll and Spicy CA Rolls. My sister loved her ramen and had plenty of leftovers to take home. Fried Tempura ice cream was amazing and tasted like a delicate deep fried donut. Scrumptious!! We'll definitely come back and try their family specials.

Came here on the 14th of February at 2 pm. We missed the lunch crowd and there were plenty of tables open so we didn't have to wait. Osaka has been around for over a decade and I know that there has been an ownership change maybe once or twice since it's been here. The menu is nice that there's a lot of photos with their items so no need to be surprised by what you get. With a plethora of Japanese restaurants in Modesto than when I first moved to Modesto in 2003, Osaka isn't my fav Japanese place but sometimes we like a change of taste. When it came to a late lunch, my wife ordered the Salmon Teriyaki with tempura and I initially wanted the chicken teriyaki bento box but the waitress said, sorry but because it's Valentine's Day, we don't have that available. OkkkKkk.... So if that isn't available, why doesn't Osaka have a Valentine's Day lunch plate special? It seems like a cop out when other restaurants would have a Valentine's Day menu to order. To me, that was a turn off but I didn't complain. There was an older gentleman who came later than us, who wanted to order the lunch plate menu and when he was told it's not available, he spent several minutes saying to the waitress that he saw the menu, which they did give (same as us). He left when it wasn't offered. Smart old man. lol I got the chicken teriyaki with tempura along with spicy girl roll. This chicken teriyaki was okay. Their teriyaki sauce is poured separately and is one of the worse sauces out there . It was very watery, it didn't stick to the chicken compared to other restaurantsz The tempura shrimp and vegetables isn't my fav. It's very thick and coated. Easy to get full with so much breading. The spicy girl was awful. It's suppose to be a California roll topped with spicy tuna along with roasted almonds and sriracha sauce. I've ordered this before and I enjoyed it but this just didn't taste right. The spicy tuna looked like it was tomato paste on top I ate two and my wife ate one and it was enough that we really didn't enjoy it. Also, the waitress who was suppose to bring our food to our table gave my chicken teriyaki plate to a table that came after us. The waitress realized she messed up because they had ordered two chicken teriyaki but the other plate in her hand was my wife's salmon teriyaki. So she gave my plate to the other table, came to ours to give my wife's plate. Then I had to wait several minutes to get my chicken teriyaki dinner. This place isn't like it was before. Won't be coming back for a long time.

This place is very busy. Readily accessible from a main street, you can see how many cars are parked and estimate how many people are in there. But people would rather queue than go to a different place. I haven't tried any other sushi places here in Modesto but I'd say this one is decent. The sushi's are fresh. But coming from an Asian, the rice is not very consistent at times. I actually love their uni's when they're available, as well as the unagi. As I said, it can be busy and so noise level can be up there also at times. Its casual. Good for family and friends. But can also be a date spot if you're craving for sushi.

When we arrived, we were seated right away. Staff was friendly. But shortly after the place started to get a little busier and despite being very friendly, our server was stretched thin and wasn't able to get to us for things like refills, additional sides, the check, etc- but staff was still very nice. We ordered a bunch of food to try out. The edamame was nothing special. The mussels were good. The dragon roll was nicely presented, but their beef steak plate and the seafood teppanyaki plate weren't anything special. The seafood platter had no flavor, and appeared to mostly be artificial seafood except the mussels and baby shrimp. It lacked flavor. It came on a sizzling hot plate but the food was nowhere near sizzling hot. Oysters were good. Otherwise the place is a decent size with its own parking lot which is nice. But I probably won't be returning here again. Next day we did end up having GI issues.

Came here on a Saturday night and the place was packed about an hour and a half before closing. The calamari and edamame were a great choice for starters. The sushi was also fresh and enjoyable.

Excellent sushi and service. I usually get delivery from here about once a week and they're the only ones that get it right. First, the sushi is delicious and very fresh. I ordered the Sushi and Sashimi dinner this time. This comes with slices of sashimi, some nigiri and a tuna roll. Check the pic out. It also comes with a salad and a cup of miso. Everything is always perfect! They even included chopsticks, wasabi and soy packets. Other restaurants always forget those for whatever reason. They even give you a little solo cup for you wasabi and soy. I also ordered the Shrimp Tempura which I've never had before. It was excellent! I obviously will order here again.

I cannot remember all of the names, the furthest one in the photo was a Las Vegas roll. (Fam favorite)

They accommodated our large party for my son's birthday and the food and service were fantastic! It was nice and relaxing while we were there. Thank you Osaka!

You can't go wrong at Osaka Sushi. I have eaten here for lunch about five times and the food is consistently good. I always love the pot of hot tea and the wait staff are friendly and helpful. Standard Japanese bento boxes. I always get the chicken teriyaki and it's good. My wife gets the shrimp tempura bento box. She loves it.

We decided to come here for dinner and were very satisfied with our experience. My wife ordered Unagi bowl and I had chicken teriyaki. Both were very tasty. It came with Miso and salad. For our beverages I had Lagunitas IPA and she had a Diet Coke. For dessert, we had deep fried ice cream that was amazing!!! The service was awesome! read more

Osaka serves oustanding rolls, very good tasting with nice presentation. We had a good experience there. There is outdoor and indoor seating, with ample distancing, waiters and waitresses wear masks, and the restaurant is clean. The Lion King roll was delicious, and so was the Kamikaze Roll with a nice tempura crunch to each bite. The spicy edamame had a good spicy roasted flavor and light salted. I was disappointed with the Otoro which was dry and bland, and the Uni which apparently was from Santa Barbara didn't taste fresh. You really do expect dishes that you pay market price for to be of high quality, but they were very noticeably poor quality, which was mentioned to the waitress. The sashimi, which I enjoyed the most, was much better quality. Never ordering uni and otoro here again unless I'm proven that it gets better. read more

I'm not sure if it is under new ownership, but there seems to be a lack of management in the front of house that was not there before. They have plenty of employees but they all seem to be confused about what they should be doing. The fried squid I ordered was the only thing I ordered that was sub par, it was greasy and the batter was soggy. The rest of the food was really good, the charashi don bowl was excellent and the fish inside it was fresh and flavorful. With better care to the fried food, and better leadership up front, this could have easily been a 5 star review. read more

I ordered a specialty roll and was excited. Unfortunately this sushi wasnt the worst sushi i ever had but i wont be going back... I am pretty sure instead of giving me sliced jalapeños on top i was met with shishito peppers and random breading which im assuming be used it was fried. There was barely any avocado. And it was put together by a mad man. Just a mess. read more

This is the one of the best sushi places in Modesto! Their food is so well executed and the staff is always friendly/helpful. Clean restrooms and plenty of seating inside, my wife and I have been coming for years and always enjoy our experience when we dine in or take out. Try everything but if you're a sashimi aficionado, try one of their Donburi Bowls with a fruit flavored cold sake and it will change your world! Come on, it comes with soup and salad! read more

It's Sunday afternoon, an hour before closing and we decide for some last minute sushi. Seated upon arrival, plenty of open tables, we sat at our preferred booth. Service: just the right amount of attention from the young lad. Appetizer: Shrimp Gyoza - this is a first for me and was delicious. Add a little soy sauce and make sure to poke it as they come out hot! Rolls: Dragon roll - simple, not overdone, and extremely balanced. Rainbow roll - a nice touch to a variety of fish, extremely fresh. Salmon hand roll - fresh and delicious. Drink: Kirin 22oz beer, the pefect rough to a good meal. Highly recommended and we will be back. I'll have to come back and try the nigiri as I honestly don't trust nigiri from Modesto, so that will be a touch one. read more

This is a big no for me. I've had better sushi pre-packaged from the supermarket. Ordered two dragon rolls. The tempura shrimp was more like just fried tempura batter, no shrimp in sight. The unagi that was supposed to be on top was somehow chopped into little pieces and incorporated into the unagi sauce, was so bizarre. The worst part in the rice was over cooked and absolutely smashed to death when they rolled it together. Ended up being the most dense, chewy sushi I've ever eaten. Definitely not worth the money spent. Instant regret wasting my money here :( read more

My sister and i came here on a Friday night, there was about a half hour wait. Once we were seated the staff was friendly and when i asked about a few different rolls she was able to help me find the right one. I ordered the miso soup that was perfect, broth and veggies, the roll i chose was the dragon roll and my sister ordered the spider roll. Both of us enjoyed our rolls, the service was decent, we waited for drink refills other than that they were attentive. If your looking for a good sushi spot in the central valley this is the place. read more

My favorite sushi spot in Modesto. This is our number one choice for Family Sushi Night. The rolls are fresh and flavorful, made with quality ingredients. The sashimi is melt in your mouth. And the tempura is as good as tempura can be. If you haven't tried them yet, I highly recommend Osaka. In 15 years, we've never been disappointed. read more

The sushi rolls were great and all but our appetizers were not the right temperature for sure. We ordered ahi tuna and fresh oysters and they were so warm and i feel like if the oysters were cold, they would've tasted more fresh, but just the temperature made me feel sick. Around us everything was clean and organized so the ambiance was great but lastly our server was rushing us the whole time. Her name was Michelle and she took our menus right after we ordered our appetizers. We had to keep waving her down when we needed things too. She never once checked on us to make sure we were okay or ask how everything was, and she only came over when it seemed convenient for her. read more

Arrived early and was promptly greeted and seated, given menus, orders taken. The music was playing at just the right level so we could hear each other talk with no problem. Menus could have been a little fresher but there were many great options for both food and drink. We ordered the squid (ebi) appetizer and a few rolls. They were good but the nori on the California roll was a bit tough. We will be back again though and try a few more rolls. read more

Osaka Sushi in Modesto was just okay. For me, a good test of freshness, proper storage, and preparation techniques is to try a restaurant's hotate (scallop) nigiri - $4.50 for two pieces. I did not like the scallop nigiri here. It had a particularly strong smell and did not taste as good as I had hoped. They probably should have told me they were out. I've eaten a lot of hotate. I liked the ichi ban maki roll $12.75. It was rolled in cucumber and while simple, it was my favorite roll of the night. read more

My daughter and I went here this evening Sept.16th 2021 and this was the first time in my 43 years I left "NO TIP" our waitress with the blonde ponytail was HORRIBLE and basically ignored us the whole time. I ran out of Sake and ice tea and she never stopped by our table once but walked by atleast 200 times. I didn't even wait for the bill we went up front and payed. The food was delicious as always but will think twice about coming here again. read more

Waited slightly over an hour and the party that got there after us got all of their food first despite ordering later than us... Still got charged for the beers and tipped since it wasn't necessarily the waiter's fault. I get that the restaurant is busy but if you can't serve at full capacity in a reasonable amount of time, I think a warning would be nice. I would have been more than happy to go elsewhere for my friend's bday. read more

Just moved to the area and I'm happy to have found a good sushi place that has a consistently good sushi. The rolls are decent size, not skimpy or small, and have great flavor. Ordered the Crunchy Munchy roll and the spicy edamame. As the name states it was definitely crunchy and yummy! So far my favorite roll. The spicy edamame was good as well, spicy, warm and flavorful. Average food and poor service…read more My friends and I decided to try Okinawa Sushi on a Saturday evening, around 6pm. Despite the restaurant being relatively empty, it took quite a long time for us to be sat. When we got to our table, the first thing I noticed was how large the booths were. If you are coming with a large party, you will likely be able to fit at one booth - this definitely makes this place feel more intimate. Despite the menu being very large, I must say, I appreciate that the there are photos of all the sushi rolls. The photos are definitely not the clearest but they help visualize what you are ordering. The menu definitely has a lot going on. There is sushi, hibachi, and all the side orders and bowls that you can imagine. Our table ordered the Crab Rangoons, Fantastic, Alaska, and Lion King Rolls. The rangoons were unfortunately deceiving. They are large, but have hardly any filling. They were almost entirely fried wrapper with quite literally a drop of filling. As for the rolls, they were alright. The texture of rolls was almost mushy. On some of rolls, there was so sauce that it was all you could taste and made the rolls soggy. The flavors were pretty good, but the portions were tiny. I felt the rolls were comparable to glorified grocery store sushi. When the rolls were brought to our table, my friends and I had to hold back our laughs when we saw the tray. There was a little whale figurine that spewed out steam. This novelty was cute but felt a little tacky. The service was somehow worse than the food. Our table ordered three waters for our party of three yet only two came. Our server said she would bring it to us later. Little did we know, this "later" would be at the conclusion of our meal. The one time she came by our table, she asked us if everything was okay. Before we were even able to provide an answer, she just assumed we would say 'yes' and walked away, making no eye contact with us. She literally walked away so quickly we couldn't tell her we were still missing a water. It felt like she was just avoiding any interaction with us. At the end of our meal, it took a long time for the bill to be brought to us. I don't see myself coming back in the future.

This was not a problem for us, but if you are eating here before making a show at the Gallo Center, this may be something to consider. For our appetizer, we ordered the Salmon Ceviche. It was insanely good. It was subtly spicy and citrusy. The chips that came with it were light and not oily at all. I wish the portion was larger because the two of us swallowed it up in just a few bites. For our entree, we got the Salmon Tataki and Goodi Rolls to split. They were both very good and came out on a lovely platter. They tasted very fresh and high quality. The prices here are on the higher side but is nice for a special occasion or splurge. Our server was very attentive and checked on us often. He was super friendly too. The restaurant was super lively. They were playing club music which was totally a vibe. It looked like this was the spot people hit before going out for the night. I noticed they were accommodating for both small and large parties, serving both rather quickly. I'll be back!

Easily my most favorite sushi place in town, simply because their portion sizes are incredible. You really get what you pay for! I can't stand paying $30 for eight or nine tiny slivers of fish at other sushi places. Well, thankfully Osaka offers generously sliced portions of their sashimi, and they are fairly priced, to boot. If you're a lover of sashimi, you'll love Osaka. Their fish is the freshest on this side of Modesto. Their rolls are legit, too. I'm a huge fan of the dragon roll myself, you're bound to find one that suits your pleasure, fellow sushi-loving Yelpers. Their service is always gracious and friendly, everyone I've interacted with is so nice, and they're always on top of their service game if I need something while dining in. I only wish they'd improve their phone system. I call in to-go orders now and then, but sometimes I can't even get through and get the busy signal when it's peak hours. It's a minor inconvenience, so I don't let this affect my high praise and recommending this awesome sushi restaurant, but I just figured this would be worth mentioning. This Japanese restaurant is the real deal. You haven't experienced true Japanese tradition until you try them out. They treat you like family no matter who you are, whether it's your first time or your 50th time. The cost of the food is very good considering the *****quality you receive. Their dishes no matter the size is so well plated that it opens your eyes as well as your pallets. If you get a chance sit at the sushi bar where all the action happens. You'll be greeted by Jose, Jason, and Kenny, thier masters of sushi chef's(no lie). The waiters and waitresses are always on the move, so service is never an issue. The atmosphere is traditional Japanese even the music(we can stay at home for American music). For real sushi lovers like myself thier raw oyster in a shell (see pic's) you haven't had one as wonderful as their's cause it's original and addicting. Their food is great but the service tonight is horrible! Called in my order at 7 pm they told me 40-45 mins. It's now almost 8 and I'm still waiting. They have a waitress manning the front, taking phone orders and payments. She apparently put my number in, incorrectly when I called, so when I came in, she couldn't find my order on her take out list. I finally told her WHAT I ordered and from that she found she entered my number in, incorrectly. She tells me after I pay, it would be just a few minutes. A few minutes go by, I go back up and ask if it's ready yet as it had been 45 mins. She checks, nothing there. Still waiting and as far as I can see, no one has bothered to check anymore. Granted, they're busy, I get it, but are fine out clients equally important as the dine in? Starting to wonder if she even entered the order ! read more

I love Osaka's. I think it's one of the best places in Modesto to get good sushi. The thing to do is to go with someone and get one of their "special" rolls (that come with soup), and a dinner and split it. What also makes this place special is the staff. They remember you, and are extremely friendly every time you come in. I started coming here because they were open later than most other restaurants, but I'm glad I tried it because now it's a weekly staple for me! The only negative is that there is usually a wait for a table during peak dinner hours. The best thing to do is to just have a late dinner and miss the crowd. Or go for lunch! :) read more

This sushi restaurant is by far the best. The employees are always courteous & provide great service. I regularly order their "Chirashi Don" (assorted fish over sushi rice bowl) & I love it. The variety of the fish flavors and extra garnishments tickle my tongue and gives me a euphoric feeling... The best part is when you reach for the seasoned sushi rice & taste that first bite. Other places I've visited are no match for the sushi rice at Osaka. Sadly, I no longer live in Modesto...but Osaka Sushi will always be my preference. Two stars because the food is the only thing that saves them. Customer service here is garbage. Called in to place an order to go and was left on hold for 30 minutes. I then decided to go in hoping for better service. When I got there, they showed no remorse for just leaving me on hold. The lady at the front was rude and didn't care. I placed the order and then proceeded to wait another 40 mins for 3 rolls and they weren't even busy. Great food and great service! I really enjoy coming here for Japanese food. I particularly like the sushi because the chefs take a lot of pride in preparing my order. They also have a great menu and the restaurant is always clean. Some reviews talk about receiving slow service, but I disagree. I will say that I prefer my food to be prepared fresh and in some cases it takes time to cook. It is worth it to me to have my sushi prepared fresh...wouldn't you agree? I highly recommend Osaka Sushi if you want fresh sushi with many options. read more

By far my favorite Sushi Restaurant in Modesto. My husband and I go at least once a week, sometimes twice. The atmosphere is laid back, with great service and we never wait long for our food, which is nice because we have our kid with us most of the time. They don't carry a lot of the crazy rolls, which I rarely like anyways, but what they do carry is fresh and tastes great. The sushi chefs also bring out fruit that they transform into different animals at the end of our meal. It's a cute touch! read more

If you want to have a hands-down BEST sushi/Japanese meal, you simply must try Osaka. The restaurant is clean and inviting. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to make your dining experience worth coming back time after time. My favorite rolls are the McHenry and the Fuji Mountain. The chicken Udon is at least a once a week favorite of mine for lunch. I cannot say enough about Osaka. They are wonderful. read more

So im not crazy about strange sushi or gimmick's i like good service and good rolls, now ive been going here once or twice a month for about a year and it has good service and they just came out with a ton of new rolls ( which is why im writing this because before that it wasn't anywhere particularly special , but now it has good service and cool rolls! By far the best sushi restaurant! I've gone to many different sushi restaurants in the Central Valley and the Bay Area and none of them compare to Osaka. A fan favorite for everyone in our family. Amazing customer service and even better food. Lot of variety and great quality. It is also very clean, something I don't see a lot in sushi restaurants. Recommend them to all. read more

The only real issue, as with all Sushi places around here it seems, is the price. I'm not sure I'm getting the maximum value for my dollar, but such as it is, the food is delicious. I stick to the cooked items, but the chicken terriyaki is to die for. You absolutely won't be sorry. Food can take some time and like I said, it's expensive, but just about worth it. read more

I came here awhile back when this place first opened. I remember the two sushi guys at the bar made some good rolls and even gave me a free roll on the house because it was their first day. I just finished lunch/dinner here and i have to say.....two thumbs up! I think I might even come back tomorrow for dinner. Good food, a lot to choose from, service was great. read more

BEST sushi in town, period. Great service, consistently good food. Kenny and his wife Jenny know all their customers and greet to personally. Liz and Kanya provide superb personalized service also. My family and I love this place. We eat here often and is very good quality fish. I'd eat sushi for dinner everyday if I could. Pictured is an oyster, a spicy tuna roll, rainbow roll, and I can't remember if the caterpillar roll or the crouching tiger roll, either way both are delicious! read more

Best sushi in central Modesto by far. I've been going for years. The quality only seems to improve as time goes by. I recommend their Chirashi; it's my favorite! Sliced assorted sashimi over a seasoned bed of rice, and theirs is garnished with pickled vegetables and tamago. Delicious! read more

Worst experience I've had at a restaurant, ever. We were told the table would be a 15-20 minute wait. After waiting 20 minutes we were told again we needed to wait another 20 minutes, despite them telling us there was only one name ahead of us. Food took over an hour to get to us. read more

I have been eating here for the last two years and Osaka has consistently had good food and service. I have had many of the specialty rolls and the seafood is always fresh. The shrimp tempura is also very good. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you are getting. read more
