Salmon bowl and lobster roll!
Paul S.

Finally got around to go and went for an 80th birthday party. Sat at a table so we could talk and we made an excellent choice. The food was on point and the waitress was friendly and timely. Everyone enjoyed their food from Habatchi to surf and turf. Not a cheep experience, but worth it. Was crowded and had a good vibe. Will be back...

Finding good sushi in the middle of America is certainly a treat. And at Koji, the sushi here is…read morecertainly good. Tasted fresh to me! (although I think the fish is cured to retain freshness) We ordered a couple rolls, but mostly stuck to the nigiri. The Hama toast, prairie tuna, and yaki gindara were all ono. The yaki gindara tasted like butterfish sushi, but with sablefish rather than black cod. Also, the rice used for the sushi tasted similar to the rice used in sushi in Hawaii. We also tried some of the yakitori - grilled meat on sticks. I strongly recommend the tako yakitori. I'm not really into tako poke (Hawaii dish), but this tako with that miso panca sauce is super ono. Full of flavor with a touch of spicy. I could eat that all the time. The five-spice old fashioned they have is also delicious. Service was excellent for us. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself has a/c and gives an izakaya vibe familiar in Hawaii. Also, I saw people come in with t-shirt and shorts for dinner. So I guess there isn't really a dress code here. As others have mentioned, Koji is a sister restaurant to Yoshitomo, and the menus of both restaurants do overlap to a degree. However, Koji has MUCH better parking than Yoshitomo. Trying to find parking for Yoshitomo or Ota can be a pain since it's all street parking. Koji is in a strip mall with its own parking lot (free parking too). I will definitely return here whenever I'm in Omaha.

I love Koji as an option for a lunch in Countryside Village - the restaurant is often quite empty…read morebut I feel that adds to the appeal to me as it is a quiet environment where you can really appreciate the food. This time around, we had the Koji Q and the Gyoza Empire in addition to some sushi rolls and those may be some of my new favorites here. The sauce of the Gyoza Empire was just so tasty I could have had it as a soup. Highly recommend!

We've visited Kobe many times, but our 9/13 visit To celebrate our grandson's birthday was by far…read morethe best. Saimon our chef was phenomenal--his table‑side preparation was skilled and perfectly paced, and his banter and humor throughout the meal made the entire experience fun and memorable. Our whole group was talking about him long after dinner ended. Branden (server) was equally impressive. His service was exceptional from start to finish: attentive, personable, and always one step ahead of what we needed. The food was fantastic, cooked perfectly, and full of flavor. With great food, great service, and Saimon's personality at the grill, this visit truly stood out. Everyone in our group agreed it was our best Kobe experience yet.

A few things to know before you go: reservations are required and the process is a little more involved than usual since you fill out a form and wait to hear back, so plan ahead. Also, since they seat a full table at a time, your actual seating may be a bit later than your reservation time. Worth checking their website, Facebook, or Instagram before you go too as they occasionally post coupons. Just make sure to mention it to your server before they ring you up. For food, the salmon and shrimp were the highlights for us. Shrimp comes as a starter for the table, but I ordered extra as part of my combo and it was worth it. The steak was fine, but not the standout in steakhouse country. Fried rice is an extra $4, which is reasonable given how good it is. Kids meals at $12 are a solid deal since they come with soup, salad, and rice. The spicy mustard dipping sauce and their spiciest sauce were both great. Our cook was friendly and engaging without overdoing it, which is the right call for teppanyaki. Prices were fair overall and the location is a bonus since Fat Brain Toys is right next door if you want to browse before or after with kids.

Took my boyfriend here for his birthday over the weekend and we both had a great meal. Our waitress…read morewas lovely and attentive. We ordered so much sushi and she brought out the most delicious cake for his special day. And I didn't even grab a photo but for a sushi place, the cake was PHENOMENAL. Blueberry with marscopone. Wonderful meal. Husker Roll was a massive hit as was the spider roll. Hiro's Crunch and spider used to be massive rolls. Now they're much smaller, which is kinda disappointing. We will definitely be back (and soon).

Solid D-grade or lower, depending on if you're actually expecting Japanese food (not here). When…read moreyou walk in, it smells like cleaning solution has been applied, but then not removed, so you're left smelling both the cleaning solution and the grunge it was trying to remove. But maybe I walked in just after a cleaning or something. Or old carpet with too many treatments? Idk. The only pro: the agedashi tofu was good. The dashi was decent, nothing to write home about in terms of flavor; comparable to what you'd get from a shelf brand dashi, but actually in the arena of Japanese food. And the squares of soft tofu were fried nicely. Other than that, my stop here was roundly disappointing. The pork bun had a weird, super hard bun that was legitimately difficult to bite through. This is NOT a soft bao bun. The pork belly didn't have the delectable mixture of spices I expect from Chinese BBQ. And what's with the American pickle on it? Flavor shock! Two thumbs down. The gyoza was pretty disappointing, too: deep fried, not pan fried. Completely changes the texture you expect from gyoza and somewhat obliterates the flavor of the insides. But it gets the apps out faster, I guess. I got the Husker Roll for a main. Inexplicably, they used glutinous rice for the roll. I suspect it's because it's easier to make a large quantity of rice and keep it, and you don't actually have to perfect the art of sushi rice, properly seasoned and fluffed. Total letdown. Weirdly chewy texture on the outside, paired with the soft cream cheese on the inside was over-the-top bad. I was looking forward to the steak on the inside... totally lost in all the other weirdness going on, and the sweet sauce on top did not complement and highlight the ingredients of the roll well. The service was also strange. Idk if it was just because it was midday and slow and they were bored, but our serving team was way too fast taking away plates we actually still needed. I managed to stop one of the serving assistants from absconding with a plate I was still using, but it was incredibly awkward because she didn't seem to know much English. My dining partner was not so lucky with their plate. Overall, the effect made us feel like we were being ushered out the door. All in all, a pretty disappointing experience at Hiro88. I don't think I would return to this location.
