This is the second time I have used Ortiz Tree Trimming Services and both times I have been very happy with their work. This past week I finally had Serbando Ortiz and his team clean up damage to our trees from the 2022 ice storm and other miscellaneous brush in our back yard. This included topping a large tree we were trying to save as well as remove some that were broken and twisted beyond repair. Our property backs up to the Balcones Canyonland Preserve and everyone in our neighborhood (Jester) is always concerned about potential fires that could wipe out our subdivision. And our situation was especially dangerous. I felt this was gonna be an extremely difficult job in that all the trees, limbs and brush had to be dragged probably 50 yards up a hill next to our house and out to their trailer. Serbando's team did a great job of trimming up three of the important remaining trees on our lot as well as getting rid of those damaged beyond repair. After the 2022 ice storm I was concerned that opportunistic tree service companies would take advantage of the situation and charge exorbitant amounts for their work. I never felt that way about Ortiz back in 2019 or this year. I didn't get bids this time because I thought Serbando would be fair and reasonable for the work required. Mr. Ortiz was easy and pleasant to work with. Last Wednesday, he received my inquiry and visited on the same day for an on-site assessment. He took his time to do a thorough walk of the perimeter before providing a quote, and I appreciated how he asked lots of questions to confirm he understood what I wanted done. His quote was more than fair, but it was his politeness and professionalism that made me feel good about choosing his business for the job. The very next day, a crew of four men completed the whole job in three hours - both sooner AND faster than I expected. I was especially grateful that Mr. Ortiz agreed to time the arrival of his crew at noon, since I work from home and could not be disturbed during my morning calls. Before leaving, he made sure to debrief me and verify that the work was completed to my satisfaction. I'm so glad I chose Ortiz Tree Trimming! Sadly, I had a relatively mature 17" diameter, 25'+ high pecan tree die this year in my backyard, probably due to the rounds of extreme heat, cold and drought. I was concerned with having it taken down soon and carefully because it was close enough to damage the house by falling into it. I called several companies to get estimates. Serbando, owner of Ortiz Tree Service, showed up at exactly the agreed on time to give me an estimate. He explained exactly what they would do, when he could schedule it, and gave me a very good price. I decided to go with Ortiz and we setup the appointment for a week later. However, today, just a couple of days later, while I was working at home, a tree crew with a large truck and wood chipper showed up at my house. The crew was headed up by Serbando's son, Serbando Jr. The son explained that they had finished a job in the neighborhood early and asked if by chance I wanted to have the tree taken down today. I was actually very happy to because that would alleviate worries about any possible storm blowing the tree into the house. Serbando Jr. expertly backed the large truck and chipper around parked cars on the street to nose into my driveway. Within minutes, the four man crew had the area cleared to take the tree down and one guy was "walking" up the tree with ropes like an expert mountaineer. The man in the tree cut the branches, having them fall precisely on the ground (missing ornamental trees, bushes, co-workers, etc.). At the same time, the other three guys were feeding the hungry chipper. Stunningly, they had the entire tree down, literally to the ground, and were raking up the remaining twigs and leaves within 45 minutes. I am extremely happy with the job Ortiz Tree Service did. I'm amazed with how quickly, yet carefully they were able to complete the job. And they were very good with the cleanup, putting the yard back the way it was (awning framework, trash cans, etc.). I would whole-heartedly recommend them to anyone for tree removal. Both Serbando and his son were very personable and easy to work with. They were happy to answer any questions I had about the job. Best tree trimming experience in over 24 years! The team, with over 15 years of experience, was punctual, knowledgeable, and professional about tree care, aesthetics, and care of our property. This team arrived ahead of schedule and prepped equipment - they cleaned and sterilized their tools. As they were cutting they were diligent in sealing the tree wounds to protect our trees from oak wilt and were careful to avoid damaging our home, fence, and landscape vegetation. All dead branches and lower suckers were cleared to promote healthy upward growth. Either by climbing to the top or by using tools on extenders, they easily reached the tops of the canopy's. As the team was finishing with putting branches into the chipper, the team lead walked me to each tree with an crew member with a cutting tool to remove anything I felt may have been missed. Hardly anything was missed in over 11 oaks plus 4 crepe myrtles. They trimmed enough to not need a repeat service next year, but I'll definitely be contacting them again for our next service. read more

We called Ortiz Tree Trimming for help with an ash tree damaged by the extreme freeze we had in February. A significant portion of the tree was dead and limbs extended over our greenhouse and part of our home. We'd already had a different tree crew out who couldn't successfully deal with this tree and had left the job uncompleted, and so we immensely appreciated the Ortiz crew's expert work. Serbando Ortiz returned our call and was able to come out and give an estimate very quickly. On the day of the job his crew arrived early and got right to work, and completed a job estimated to take roughly 4 hours in 2.5. They were efficient, extremely knowledgeable, courteous and impressive with the way they navigated, with ropes, removing the dead parts of the tree. They brought their wood chipper down our driveway and close to the yard so they could move the debris quickly out, and they cleaned the yard thoroughly after. They also took great care to move potted plants that we had overlooked before beginning so that nothing was damaged in the removal. This is the second time we've used Serbando and his team. The first time, he removed some 40-year-old shrubs/hedges and root balls in the front of our house. This time, he cut down a Chinese Tallow that was compromised by the February snowstorm. He and his team also trimmed three Ash trees and our huge Red Oak in front of the house. The Chinese Tallow that was removed from our backyard was massive and hung over our roof, pergola, patio, and pool area. Not a single branch from that tree hit our roof coming down. Using ropes, they were able to direct tree branches away from all areas that could have sustained damage. It was truly impressive to watch. Our other trees required heavy trimming since they had been in the process of budding out when the winter storm hit and it killed many of the smaller branches that were heavy with sap.
