I had never been here before. I just happened to pass by and decided to stop. Totally spur of the moment. It was a Sunday afternoon and the store was busy. There were families and people of all ages. Everyone seemed happy and the were enjoying their yogurt together. The establishment is nicely decorated in that frozen-yogurt-shop decor. Lots of modern furniture, bright stripes, splashes of color on white walls. You know the interior I am describing and if you don't, just visit any frozen yogurt shop near you. The cashier was very young and nice. She told me about the yogurt frequent flyer program without me having to ask. She gave me some sample cups and was very pleasant. Here are my complaints with this store- price and selection. Out of all the favors they had, there was only one that had no sugar added. There was no sugar-free choice at all. I do not like to consume much sugar. I am very sensitive to it and it makes me jittery. There is no way to avoid sugar at this store. I was disappointed in their lack of sugar-free offerings. I've had other frozen yogurt that was SF but this store is not that place. The other complaint I have is price. I paid for two yogurts with minimal toppings. I almost fell out when it came to over $13. Couldn't believe how expensive this place is for just yogurt. Unbelievable. I cannot imagine taking a family here to eat a treat. This was not a meal but a luxury purchase. I just thought it was way overpriced for what you got in return. I will not be making this a routine stop, that's for sure. WOW. This location is the greatest location I have been to. They provide the best customer service I have seen. The bathrooms are clean and the dining room are always sparkling. Savannah I think (the one with curly hair and glasses) provides great customer service and always seems happy. She was also providing us samples if we asked and always hard at work cleaning the tables as well. Greatest location hands down. read more

I love their frozen yogurt, even more so when it's a little bit chilly outside. I have to give them props for always changing their flavors and keeping fresh toppings every time I visit (even if it's almost 9:00PM). The variety is nice, and there is something for everyone and their taste buds. The rewards program is great. Nice reachable goal before you get $1 off or more. It seems like every other visit that I make I get a perk to use on my purchase. And what's better than saving money as you enjoy a nice sweet treat. I would say it is a little inconvenient having to ask an employee to come around the counter with the sample cups. They should be placed along the bowls for customers to use themselves. But the employee was very friendly and gave me good suggestions as she pour my sample cups (I asked for about 7 samples .... and I am not ashamed of it). The venue is nice and cozy. The only thing they could do better is give their consumers the tasting cups! Nothing is better than them changing up their flavors constantly but it is like playing Russian Roulette with palate if you don't try before you buy. The flavors range from super sweet--brownie batter- to more subtle-the classic tart. Depending on your mood, an entire group can find something to satisfy their craving here...I especially like that they have fresh fruit as a topping option, as well as dairy- and sugar-free options as well. I cannot get over how great the fro-yo is at Orange Leaf. The quality of the fro-yo is superior to that of the other fro-yo place in town, the toppings are fresh and well-stocked (and there's tons of variety to boot), and I'm hopelessly addicted to their fruit flavors, especially the pomegranate and pineapple flavors. Last night I tried the mango flavor for the first time and it was spot-on, and the original tart is some of the best I've tasted at any fro-yo place. I can see how the decor could be a turn-off for some people, but I dig it. Minor complaints: I'm never 100% certain what the price per ounce is; to my knowledge it's not clearly displayed anywhere in the store, and it would be kind of cool if they had a scale somewhere other than at the register where you could check to see how much money you're spending on your treat. I've gotten pretty good at guestimating, but it would be nice to have the opportunity to check yourself before you wreck yourself (or your wallet). Orangeleaf falls in line with multitudes of other frozen yogurt shops popping up around the country; they tend to decorate with vibrant colors (usually orange and lime) and feature hopelessly uncomfortable furniture from the 1960's vision of five years ago. Still, for what it lacks in originality, the in-store experience is actually pleasant. There is plenty of room, everything is clean and organized, and the service was friendly. And even though I teetered anxiously on my surprisingly unstable barstool the entire time, the bizarreness of it made the visit memorable. The flavor choices are many and the topping combinations are likewise numerous, so you'll probably cobble together something you like. There aren't any flavors that really stand out as iconic or offer tastes for the adventuresome yogurteer. In fact, the quality of the yogurt is decidedly mediocre. The texture is granulated and icy and the flavors are noticeably artificial. For the price, it's not bad, but no better than any other dessert you can find. Still, there's something to be said for a predicable dessert that in a place that's fun and inviting. For a group of friends looking for a place to hang out instead of going home, Orangeleaf can help keep the night rolling, and it's not a bad place to go if you're being a go-with person, but it doesn't strike me as a main attraction. I'm torn between 2 & 3 stars. The customer service was excellent. The girl who helped us was incredibly friendly. We informed her we had not been there before nor heard of the place & she jumped right into what they were, what they had, & who they were. It was well lit & exceptionally clean. I have to say I was impressed upon entry & continued to be impressed until it came time to leave when my daughter & I realized that their display size donuts weren't "display sized" after all but that you actually paid $6 for 2 bites worth of cheap donuts. It's a great little concept. The menu was adorable, the flavors intriguing & inventive (we thought), tho they don't actually deliver on taste. The toppings bar appeared clean & fresh even tho we went in 20 minutes to closing (which is 10pm here). The banana slices weren't brown, the strawberries were perky, no fruit flies, tho it is winter. It's hard to give this place a bad review. We wanted so badly to like it. But the donuts were barbie sized & tasted like corporate uniformity & sugar water covered cardboard with plain ol' granulated sugar sprinkles. Very disappointed. My kid & I went straight to Munchers after we left for superior fresh donuts of reasonable price for a wonderful size & EPIC flavor even tho we hate the attitude, service & lack of variety of that place for the hours we visit. It is what it is. Very disappointed. We won't be back, I'm sorry to say. 5 seconds before the lovely girl handed us the box we thought we had found a new favorite place. *Shrug* Considering some of the low end & working class houses in the area I hope there are plans in the works for more upscale clientele. This DIY froyo fad is getting a bit old in my opinion, but for what it is, Orange Leaf delivers. There's about 12 flavors to choose from and a multitude of toppings. The actual frozen yogurt here is better quality than 3 Spoons; it's creamier and more consistent. The fruit flavors are more noticeably artificial so I tend to stay away from flavors like blueberry banana and go for something like chocolate cheesecake instead. The array of toppings at Orange leaf is pretty much equivalent to 3 Spoons, though they don't chop the candy as fine here which can be a bit annoying when eating. I felt like the actual counter at Orange Leaf was cleaner though; a real bonus when you see the millions of children congregating here over summer. If you're a Lawrence local, "like" them on Facebook - they'll send out 50% off or 75% off deals every once in awhile. All the more reason to prefer Orange Leaf! read more

The two business trends that seem to be cropping up in abundance lately are cupcaketerias / small dessert bakeries and self-serve frozen yogurt places. This is obviously one of the latter. This one is a recent addition to the Lawrence scene competing for your frozen-dairy-dessert dollar, coming on the heels of Three Spoons frozen yogurt in downtown, Culver's and Freddy's frozen custards on the south side of town, and the venerable Sylas and Maddy's Ice Cream of downtown (with the Johnny come-lately of Coldstone Creamery). Orange Leaf features ca. fourteen flavors of frozen yogurt in low-fat and no-fat varieties. Patrons choose from two different tub sizes -- huge and gigantic. In one sense these containers are large because they give you the opportunity to have space in which to place your toppings, but they are also a fine optical illusion where you think you have dished yourself up a small amount of frozen yogurt, but you are already holding a half-pound of dispensed product because you decided that you wanted a little from each of three different flavors. The self-service aspect has customers using machines very similar to soft-serve ice-cream machines, lifting a handle to dispense product. After one has made selections, then there is an extensive toppings bar where one can select from a wide variety of sprinkles, cookie bits, berries, broken candy bars, and other toppings. From there, the result is weighed and priced. After visiting three other self-serve yogurterias, I think I like Orange Leaf's flavors the best. As seems to be standard for each of these self-serve yogurt places, a tangy "original" is featured, and I think that Orange Leaf's is rather good. I also enjoyed the birthday cake -- a delicious flavor that tastes like cake batter; I also liked the pomegranate -- a nonfat yogurt with a great tartness and citrus quality. The decor is fun and inviting, a good place to hang out for a little bit while you enjoy your half-pound of yogurt. read more

I wish it was a colder, harder froyo so it wouldn't melt as much before I'm done eating it. I am really disappointed that the spoons are recyclable and Lawrence recycles yet there are no recycling bins in this place. Their spoons are cute little shovels for your mouth. read more

The best froyo place in Lawrence, though that's not saying much. The product, the decor, the staff - all top notch. It's the location that's the problem. Unless you're in the area (which you might be if you attend Free State or frequent any of the local doctors), it's probably not worth going out of your way to get. Then again, that's basically true of froyo in general, so while it seems a bit unfair to penalize Orange Leaf for where it resides (if it switched places with the inferior 3 Spoons, it'd be worth an extra star), that's the problem with fad snack joints: by the time you get around to stopping by, it might already be gone. read more

If you are looking for a healthy alternative to soft serve ice cream, the Orangeleaf is perfect. Their yogurt is creamy and after several purchases I have found this product to be consistent and perfect every time. (Unlike the 3 spoons franchise, whose product does not consistently come out of the dispenser in even, thick flows and is not creamy, but alternately hard and thin, like frozen water instead of frozen yogurt.) The Orangeleaf topping choices are plentiful and the fresh fruit options do not have added sugar. The environment is colorful and pleasant, but I enjoy eating mine outside on the bench or at the table. read more
