*CELIAC / GLUTEN FREE REVIEW many GF / DF options - just ask and they'll bring out a sheet with all the GF flavors on it, and then you can compare to what's actually on the floor for the day. They got me a clean scoop and were SUPER affordable for great flavor. I got the dark side and the cappuccino chocolate chip, DELICIOUS and hit the spot :)
This place has patrons at all hours of the day. Peeps be low-key eating ice cream for dinner at 5pm on a Wednesday. Who am I to judge, you ask? You're right I had pecans for breakfast. On warm evenings this lamp on the corner of 11th attracts many moths. Mesmerized by its sweet glow, their mouths murmur between bites of milk and cream mixture. You'd be hard pressed to find a flavor you don't like at S&M ;). My brother in Christ, you chose the cream out of 30 flavors, don't complain. Quality seems up to par but I will need to report back with an air percentage measuring tool to make sure.
Yum yum YUM! One of the cutest and yummiest ice cream places. They have so many unique flavors, you can't go wrong! Both my friend and I loved what we got. The cotton candy was SO sweet! There was a huge line, but the staff was very effective and had us out in less than 5 minutes! Super awesome place and the inside reminds me of an old diner.
The ice cream here was delicious! We went to an event in Lawrence and we stopped by. There was a massive line but the employees were efficient. They were rally friendly too. The place is huge and it's in a good location. Get the waffle cone! I worked at Disneyland for years and this place gives me Gibson Girl cone vibes.
I came in on a warm Sunday afternoon, so it was naturally very busy here and had to wait about 25 minutes to order. I don't care, it was worth it, I probably would've willingly waited longer - the ice cream was SO good! They have a huge assortment of flavors to choose from so it was hard to narrow down, but I eventually settled on the Thin Mint. Now that I've had the deliciousness that is Sylas and Maddy's though, I'm going to have to come back for a sampler so I can try even more flavors. It was just that good. The shop is adorably decorated, and there's plenty of seating indoors and out. Would highly recommend if in Lawrence!

Silas & Maddy's is easily one of my all-time favorite ice cream spots, hands down one of the best around! It's all home-made and you can definitely taste the difference. There's almost always a line (which tells you everything you need to know), and the staff is always super friendly and patient. My go-to flavors are the Gold Dust and Cookies n Cream, both are rich, creamy, and packed with flavor in every bite. The Gold Dust is a sweet cream ice cream with oreos, snickers and caramel swirl. Cookies n Cream is a classic, but they somehow make it taste even better than you'd expect, huge oreo chunks, super creamy base, just perfect. They do only allow two samples, which I actually respect. I heard that back in the day, kids used to roll in and try every flavor just for fun, then dip without buying anything. So yeah, two tastes is plenty enough to try something new without turning it into a free-for-all. And honestly, with how good everything tastes, it's not hard to commit. If you're in town and craving a treat, you have to come try, it's 100% worth it.
My girlfriend and I were out shopping and stopped in here and thought it was super cute! To start the decor is nice and fitting to the business. You see all the cute flavors and staples on the walls, which allows you to quickly guess what you might like to try. After you decide you can try two flavors. Anna who helped us, was awesome and very helpful when our small group was deciding what to pick. We got 3 cups of ice cream and loved them. You could taste the flavor of ingredients in every bite. We would highly recommend this cute place! We will be back.
On our last visit to Lawrence, a final, sad farewell stop at Sylas and Maddy's was a no brainer. A little shocked to see the line out the door early on a summer night. However, given the quality of the ice cream, it's great to see they don't just depend on the college crowd keeping them in business. The move to this location a few years ago was clearly a great idea. Much more room inside for those waiting, and overflow seating downstairs, which was packed. My daughter and I both went with our favorite Mississippi Mud, which never disappoints. I'm not a big cone guy, but I always get one here. Their fresh cones, dipped in chocolate and rolled in sprinkles, are amazing. We've got great ice cream back home in Colorado, but I'll miss coming here, as Sylas and Maddy's ranks him on the list of the best we've ever had.
I was in LFK this weekend and I stopped in for a pre-dinner snack. They had a large selection of ice cream and toppings. I ended up with the Hawk Tracks in a waffle cone. I got a medium and as you can see from the picture, it was pretty massive. The Hawk tracks was filled with brownies, peanut butter cups, and something else that I can't recall at the moment but just know that it was delicious and rich. I also went with a fun waffle cone that was chocolate dipped and covered in sprinkles. Sprinkles are for winners and I was definitely winning! A nice thing is that they put a malted milk ball in the bottom of the cone so that it doesn't do that gross drip out the bottom thing. I feel like this is now going to be a mandatory stop whenever I'm out this way.

Is 9:30 at night and the place is buzzing mostly with the college crowd. Inside is bright, but it's kind of loud- with music and the din of conversation. There are places to sit down. there's lots of servers behind the counter maybe six and so the line is moving quickly. Their board has 40 flavors to choose from. I ordered the five flavor sampler in a cup for $5.50. I like chocolate and nuts so they had four of those and then we added "Mahomes magic." The Ice cream taste very rich, they have choices of waffle cones or cake cones, dish, sundaes, milks shakes, and malts. I don't think anybody could leave disappointed from this place. I stopped in for some ice cream last night & was blown away. Maybe it's because I went to a different local place recently & had bad service, but this was fabulous! The staff was very friendly and the store was clean. I got a waffle cone with party animal & cotton candy ice cream, which were both great. They were full of the mix ins & had fabulous flavor. read more

Wow! This little place is incredible! The ice cream is homemade and you can taste the difference. The kiddos opted for dipped sprinkle waffle cones with gold rush and Rock chocolate Jayhawk ice cream. The hubs and I opted for sweet cream ice cream. He has a walled cone and I had a milkshake. The sweet cream was very unique - you could taste the cream and it wasn't over sweet, which I absolutely loved. Being a Saturday, it was busy and there were only two working, which made the line move slow. Still, it was with the wait. read more

Great ice cream. Lots of awesome flavors. The only piece of advice I have is that the owners NEED to post the ice cream and ice cream ingredients somewhere for customers before they get to the serving station. This could be them posting something on the wall, laminated menus, or even QR codes on the door or inside. The line is always SO long, and no one knows what the flavors are until the get to the counter AND there's no way to see the ingredients unless you're up there. People would have their orders ready more quickly if this info was available while waiting in line. read more

Came here after our dinner for some sweet treats. Definitely no line (thank goodness), but there were so many flavors to read and choose from. It was a bit daunting if you've never been there and not know the names of the flavor. The staff were nice and gave us time to look over what we wanted, however, the two ice cream sections were separated. By the time we looked at the first section they asked us what we wanted before we got to see what else was in the second section. When we did get to the second section to look, they were already helping the next customer. I felt like I was rushed and had to go back to the first area to look, which I felt bad getting into the other customer's way. I ended up getting a sample of the lavendar lemon, while I was sampling the staff said "let me know check if we have anymore". Sure enough, they didn't have anymore and didn't have enough for a serving. IMO, if there isn't enough then the whole tub should be taken away because I actually wanted it. Now I had to "hurry" and pick another flavor, which I ended up with Green Tea. It definitely does not taste like green tea and the color doesn't even look the part. It taste like bubble gum mint? My boyfriend tried it and said "you got bubble gum"? I didn't have the greatest experience, but my boyfriend enjoyed his ice cream. I had mine in a waffle cone, which I appreciate that it's house made cones and it tasted great. Not sure if it was intentional, but at the end of my cone I had a chocolate malt candy ball in there. I'm not a chocolate person, but I thought it was a nice surprise treat in there, IF that was intentional. read more
Delicious Ice Cream/countless flavor's Great little shop that has sone delicious ice cream. The inside is super clean and staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I ended up ordered 'DA Bomb' and the ice cream was super creamy and better tasting than I initially imagined. While speaking to one of the staff member they told me that the were on food network channel and I can can see why. If you looking for a date night or just a cool shop to get ice cream Sylas and Maddy is the place. Happy eating! read more

My favorite ice cream would have to be gold dust. This ice cream consists of vanilla ice cream, Oreos, snickers, and carmel. Whoever created this combination is a genius and I wish they sold it by the quart because I would definitely be buying a few to store in the freezer. I like how they have complimentary water available and ALL OF THE SPACE! Sylas & Maddy's moving I think benefitted both Lawrence and the company, because it definitely brightens up this whole block. read more

So so good!! I had wanted to try this place but the previous times, the line was out the door or it was closed. Went in the afternoon during the week and it was fantastic. I got the da bomb in a waffle cone and loved it. Spouse got the pink grapefruit sorbet and he loved it. We will be back! read more
I'm told that a trip to Lawerence isn't complete unless you visit Sylas & Maddy's. They've recently relocated and their space is much bigger. Don't let the line intimidate you, these ice cream slingers are fast and so cheerful and welcoming! I had the Gold Rush which was a delightful caramel, oreo, and praline ice cream. The waffle cones are house made and there's a special treat found inside. All in all it was a real treat after dinner and I'm glad we were able to find it, even during the torrential downpour! read more

What is it about the Spring weather that makes you crave ice cream? If you are looking for local home made ice cream, this is your place! They have a clean lobby area and long lines. Most ice cream flavors were stocked (which is why this is a 4 star rating). The names are creative and since I could not commit to one flavor, I had a scoop of peanut butter and one of cookie dough / choc chip. Awesome all around. The server didn't quite give me full scoops.... Which was disappointing. Tasty, velvety smooth flavors. read more
