I was celebrating passing a certification for work so we thought we should have a treat. Also, my brother was in town so it seemed a good time. I've never had ice cream like this before. They literally make it right in front of you. After you order your flavor, they pour liquid in a bowl and use a stand mixer and liquid nitrogen to prepare the ice cream fresh while you wait. There are no additives or preservatives, and it tastes amazing! The family who owns the place is very kind and willing to walk you through the menu and the process. A lot of places that make banana splits use under-ripened bananas because it's cost-effective, so the split ends up with hardly any banana taste at all. The ice cream overall had a good texture. The churros tasted a little off. I couldn't quite place what it was - though I wonder if it's the oil they fried them in. I don't know how often they change the oil, or what kind of oil they use, but I only ended up eating one. However, my boyfriend loved them and ate the whole batch. So, not sure if it was just me or what. The service was average. One of the employees misheard me when I ordered a banana split, so she ended up making me a Banana Berry smoothie. My boyfriend confirmed that I had spoken correctly, so there must have been a blip in communication at some point. But she ended up just making the banana split. Then I tried hiding the pill in a pill pocket, Velveeta cheese, peanut butter, ham, scrambled eggs, roast beef, cheddar cheese, five or six different wet dog foods and American cheese to no avail.. I was trying to find Limburger cheese figuring the strong smell might mask the odor of the pill. Then someone mentioned compounding her medicine into a liquid at special pharmacy. I looked up one relatively close to me and found Georgetown. I was skeptical as to how my dog would react to a liquid. The pharmacist said he could add either a beef or chicken flavor plus a little bit of sweetness and showed me how to fill the syringe. At home my dog gobbled her kidney food and her medication down and begged for more! I was estatic. The pharmacist also suggested buying a larger size than what my vet prescribed to save money. But it is a fully functioning soda fountain with milkshakes, malts, ice cream, floats and the whole works. The malt I had was undermixed and underwhelming. The cheeseburger was awful: a frozen patty cooked by a teenager on a gas grill outside the entrance. Foodwise there is not much to choose from but there are a ton of drinks as well as Broadway cafe coffee. The atmosphere is weird, really nothing like a true old school soda fountain. This is not the kind of strange place that is even remotely charming. I'm giving them two stars simply because they are a soda fountain and have some beverages that are not readily available. But it would be much much better if they just lost the food and concentrated on good ice cream and soda fountain fare.
