It was difficult to decide which I wanted. It was like an assembly line of perfect little treats. The staff was very nice and helpful. The selection seemed endless and they had drinks in cans that were delicious. I had a very difficult time choosing which I was going to try. There is a seating area in the rear of the restaurant. It was full of happy people eating pastries and chatting. It was a perfect setting. I had heard about this place for years but never ventured inside. I regret not going to this lovely place sooner. I will definitely go back and recommend. I guess this is a franchise business with locations all over the US. I am just glad we have one in Lawrence. Still... WOW!

Couldn't believe it when I a friend told me this place has been in operation for years. Guess I need to venture over to Lawrence from Topeka more often! While not the case across the board, we found a number of the items we selected to be on par with the quality of treats we enjoy while visiting France. Needless to say I will be wearing out the Turnpike making return visits to this real gem.

We got six flavors to try and here's our ratings (refer to photo). Pandan Coconut - 10/10, our fav by a long shot!!!! Bavarian - 6.5/10, needed a bit more flavor but we loved the creaminess. Strawberry Rhubarb - 6/10 (I liked it more than my partner but he's not a big strawberry fan, worth trying for sure!!). Everything Donut - 7/10, a little in the salty side but fun to try for sure!! Classic Cinnamon - 7/10, light, fluffy and airy. Nutella - 4/10, the Nutella was super thick inside this so you have to strategically plan your bites so you're getting and even amount of donut to Nutella ratio, my first bite was like eating a big spoonful of peanut butter, obviously tasty tho Nutella is delish. We would definitely come back!! Getting two coconut next time though!

I don't recommend the savory donuts. I've tried the everything bagel flavor and it was way too salty. I dusted off most of the flavoring and it was still very salty. The sweet donuts are better. I also like the plain sourdough donut ($4) with no filling because I don't have much of a sweet tooth. My favorite flavor is the pandan one because it's not too sweet (saying "it's not too sweet" is a meme but also kind of an ultimate compliment for Chinese taste buds). I recently went on at 8:30 am on a Friday, waited in line for about 20 minutes and was able to buy the donuts I wanted. They always have a line but it seems like you can still have a solid chance of getting donuts if you line up to an hour even after opening. They also have some batch drinks on tap, a nice space with enough seating, and even some board games and books.

The restaurant itself is beautiful inside -- a cozy mix of rustic and modern that creates a really inviting atmosphere. Service started a little slow, though our waitress became more attentive once she came by. We mentioned it was our first visit, so I was a bit surprised there wasn't much guidance on the menu or any recommendations. At one point I asked about the two kinds of fries (I love fries!), and the explanation was simply that they were "fancy fries," without much detail on flavors or differences. We started with drinks and the Brussels sprouts appetizer. The sprouts were actually very good, with a nice balance in the sauce, and both the wine and sangria were refreshing. Unfortunately, dinner is where things went downhill. Our meals -- a steak and a gluten-free chicken sandwich -- took about 45 minutes to arrive, which felt long for relatively simple dishes. I had asked about the gluten-free bun since they can sometimes be dry, but didn't receive much insight beyond "it's gluten free," and sadly it was indeed very dry. The chicken itself lacked flavor, though the goat cheese cilantro sauce helped make it somewhat enjoyable. The fries looked homemade and delicious but arrived cold. The steak was cooked as requested, but it didn't have much flavor beyond the mushrooms on top. The broccoli side was tasty, and the potatoes were good, though it on a bed of Some kind of cheese sauce that wasn't quite to our liking. Overall, the space and gluten-free availability were promising, and the appetizers and drinks were enjoyable, but the food execution and service details didn't quite meet expectations for us this visit.
