We were seated at a booth and immediately the waitress came over and asked for a drink order. We looked over our menus and made our selections. Our waitress was nice and was generally attentive. My husband ordered the killer combo sandwich and he did not order any sides because the sandwich is quite large. It comes with a choice of two meets with a pickle on top. I ordered the ribs with two sides, which were coleslaw and potato salad. She brought out the food, and I had a slice of bread on top of my ribs, which I was not happy about since I have celiac. Typically most barbecue places if they serve bread will serve it on the side, not smack dab on top of the meal. I should've also told her no bread, but I wasn't expecting it to be on top of it. I ended up just giving the top ribs to my husband since I usually don't finish my ribs anyways. The ribs were barely lukewarm, unfortunately. Their sauce is a sweeter sauce, which I prefer, but I thought it was just OK. The ribs were generally fine and the coleslaw was good and so was the potato salad. I would say out of the whole meal the potato salad was the best. My husband was not happy with his sandwich because the beef was kind of dried out. He had been to this restaurant once before as a guest of a friend, and at that time, the beef was more tender and thicker sliced. I thought that the rib plate meal was reasonable at $17 with two sides. The sandwich by itself was $18 which wasn't that great considering the meat was dried out. It was just a casual restaurant with a homestyle feel to it. It was clean and so were the restrooms. We would not particularly go back just because the main thing which is a barbecue it was just OK.

This is my update after visit 3 to Joe's BBQ since moving to OP…read more This visit brought my review down a bit. I've tried more BBQ places in the area now. I met a couple of friends for dinner tonight at Joe's which did make my visit awesome! You order at a register, then pay, and pick up your food on a tray. A long line moves pretty fast, there's a decent amount of seating. so Zero complaints on service and ambiance. It's basically self serve and the decor is what you'd expect at a BBQ place. I was impressed with how smoothly and quickly it went with a large crowd there for dinner! I like the BBQ but it's not the best I've had. I got a 2 meat platter which comes with 1 side and toasted white bread. The brisket is pre-cut. I always ask for the lean side and the lady at the register said they cut it that way, but it had a lot of fat so I couldn't eat about half of it. The other meat I chose was pulled pork. It was fine. My side was corn. I'd call it Elote but they call it something else. It was very good. It's a small cup so I wish it were more since it was my favorite item of my meal. I also prefer a mustard/vinegar based BBQ sauce and they do not offer that at Joe's unless I somehow missed it but I don't think so. The BBQ sauce is very sweet! I would go back if a group of people I'm with wanted to go, but it's not the BBQ place I would pick for myself. Some of that is personal preference. It may be that you love fat (many do) and sweet BBQ sauce. If that's you, I would recommend you go!

Staff is honest and makes great suggestions. "To go" materials are easily accessible cause you can't really finish your meal (I mean you can, but you better carve out some time for a nap!). They offer catering for celebrations, parties, graduations, or anything you could think of! Place was very clean, and comfortable. While every bbq place in KC offers their own spin, many of which are great, this place just hits better!! It just feels like a small town bbq spot that is hidden; like a speak-easy of BBQ! For my sides, I got Mac and cheese, cheesy corn and potato salad. Turkey sandwich was good, per le bf. It had a good smokey flavor and wasn't dry! My brisket was also quite moist with minimal fatty parts, which is what I prefer. Sausage was ok, had to really chew into it. What I'm most disappointed about is the ribs. The ribs were good, but for almost $20, I got 3 pieces. They stated for the ribs plate, you'd get about 3 or 4, depending on the weight, but it would be nice to note that down somewhere that when paying $20, expect 3 pieces. Ive gotten double that and about the same price at other bbq spots, hence my disappointed and surprised when opening the container. Mac and cheese had huge shell noodles, which was cool but on the watery side. Potato salad was decent, got the job done but a little bland. Sauces are also on the tangy side, and if you're a sweet bbq sauce gal like me, it wasn't hitting the spot. Overall was nice giving a try, but will prob be going elsewhere for my bbq needs!

This Joe's location has been in our rotation since it opened, and we go here often when family is in town as it can always accommodate a large group. Yes, there is still often a line, and sometimes it's out the door, but that never stops us. It's never taken more than 20-25 minutes to get through the line and find a table, even on a busy day. We also have often ordered pick up or door dash from this location and something I appreciate is that they turn off door dash if they are too busy for it. Why do I like this? because you aren't left in limbo wondering where your food is. Just go pick it up if you need Joes on one of those days. The food is also consistent. I've never eaten here and thought it was sub par. It's always great, always a good value for what you get, and the place is always clean. 5/5 all day every day.

I ordered the charbroiled burger with pepper jack cheese, jalapeños, and bacon. It was cooked well, but I realized I'm just not a fan of that distinct charbroiled flavor. You might ask, "Then why did you order it?" Fair question. I'd never had a burger with such a pronounced charbroiled taste before, so now I know it's just a personal preference, not a reflection of the burger itself. We also ordered the Farmer burger with an egg, cheddar cheese, and bacon, along with a plain cheeseburger. The plain cheeseburger was fantastic. The patties are a nice, average size. They're not massive, but they're satisfying and full of flavor. For sides, we tried the curly fries, crinkle fries, and tater tots. The crinkle fries were our favorite. Also, don't skip the homemade ranch. It was excellent. The real standout, though, was the staff. They were cheerful, helpful, and incredibly fast. The place was packed because of the fair, but everyone was hustling and keeping things running smoothly. I pride myself on leaving honest reviews, so I do have to mention the one downside: the flies. There were quite a few inside. I'm sure the heat and the fair/rodeo traffic made it worse, but it was definitely noticeable and annoying while eating. Overall, the food was good, the service was excellent, and I'd happily come back. Next time, I'll skip the charbroiled burger simply because I've learned that flavor isn't for me.

I visited them in SW Olathe after checking their social media for upcoming dates and locations. My brisket combo ($11.00) included a brisket sandwich, one side and a canned drink or bottled water. I added a second side ($2.00). The sandwich had a generous quantity of tasty, smoked, lean brisket on a fresh bun. I was surprised to see they did not offer baked beans, but their flavorful potato salad was a stellar substitute. The cole slaw was also first-rate. Two BBQ sauces were available upon request - original and hot. Both were very good and nicely complemented the brisket. I found the service at the window to be friendly, cheerful and efficient with only a two-minute wait for my order. The owners are a couple who operated an award winning food truck in Phoenix for 11 years, so they certainly know what they are doing. They recently moved to the KC area to be near their grandkids. Their slogan is "That's how we do it, son." Overall, excellent!

They offer tasty BBQ at a reasonable price with great service. There was already a line of customers as they opened the service window in Stilwell on the first day of their 2021 season. The regular size pulled pork sandwich had a generous amount of tasty, moist meat while the generous amount of beans was just okay, with nice pieces of BBQ meat mixed in. I especially liked the cole slaw, which was crunchy, chewy, fruity, and flavorful. My order also included complimentary pickle spears. Not bad for $10.57. The staff were welcoming, efficient, and thankful - clearly a first class operation. Overall, very nice for the price.
