I had a simple short board (small) shaved ice with strawberry colada syrup. The ice was perfectly snowy, not hard and crunchy. The syrup had serious flavor and was very satisfying. Wow! This is not at all what I expected when my daughter begged to try Hokulia. I've had shaved ice before...I've had snow cones before...this is totally different. They offer 32 exotic and delicious ice cream flavors that can be eaten alone, or sandwiched in between shaved ice layers. The shaved ice here is light and fluffy instead of small chunks of ice dripping with syrup, and they offer 50 flavors that can be ordered alone or combined with others. There are literally hundreds of flavor and ingredient combinations available. They also offer 22 different smoothies, but we didn't try them on this visit. There are so many choices that you might try more than one treat because whatever you order from Hokulia the prices are great! The store itself is bright, clean, inviting and really fun in general, and the employees are sweet, fast, and knowledgeable about their products. Here is the thing, all 4 of us (me, my husband, and two daughters) do like this place. However, I PERSONALLY do not like it as much as Sylas and Maddy's but my husband who likes shaved ice more than ice cream prefers this over Sylas and Maddy's. I liked Hokulia more before this current visit. They have been out of Kona Coffee Chip the past two times we were here so we called prior to our visit to ask. The kid we spoke to said they had it in stock even confirmed they we out of the other coffee flavor they carry but verified they DID have the Lona Coffee Chip. So we drove here instead of Sylas & Maddy's so we all good get what we wanted. We get there and they did not have Kona Coffee Chip and when we asked about it since we drove here specifically for that flavor, the kid that my husband spoke to on the phone was extremely rude about it, we asked why he didn't actually check before confirming if it was there or not and he said, "I couldn't check because I was on the phone with you, what did you want me to do about it?." Completely rude disrespectful kid which is NOT what we have come accustomed to when it come Ks to the friendly atmosphere of Hokulia. We have always (until today) had superb customer service here. There is NO reason this kid could not have said the phone down and went and actually verify that it was in store, or ask another employee to go look for him. This is the problem nowadays with these kids working in these places is some of them are lazy it would've taken less than 30 seconds to check, if that. But no, he couldn't be bothered to check before verifying. After today I'm not sure if we will frequent here as much as we have been. Honestly, for me, I wasn't that bummed about them being out, yes it sucked because I was looking forward to it but it saved me the calories. It was the kids attitude snotty "don't give a damn" that ticked me off and made me not wanna come back at all. What a gem, this place is! I can't believe I didn't know about this until now. The dining area and restrooms are immaculately clean and the whole place just has a place vibe. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They even have a drive-thru! I got the longboard sized Kona Sunset, which is shaved ice with Mango, Guava, and passionfruit. The colors did indeed look like a beautiful sunset. For $1 more, I added a scoop of Big Island Vanilla bean ice cream in the middle and for $.75 I added the snow cap on top. If you can do dairy, I definitely recommend this. It's magnificent, from a little tangy from the fruit to the creaminess of the ice cream and snow cap. I got a cake batter/vanilla snocone. With the condensed milk cream on top. I came in like 2 minutes before they closed. I walked in and asked if they were closed. Excellent customer service. we walked in and got greeted immediately. she might have been the owner but regardless, she was happy to let us try whatever flavor we wanted and gave us many recommendations on shaved ice. we ended up with a short board of lychee, guava, and watermelon. we added ice cream on the bottom too. of course she let us try the ice creams too. we ended up with pineapple sherbert. it was delicious regardless of the 30 degree weather. a craving is a craving no matter what. after we finished, she let us try some of the popcorn. so many flavors to choose from. some very interesting ones like the pickle, apple pie, and ranch. overall good place for a quick dessert and expect fantastic service read more

This place rocks! My first time yesterday and I went to the drive-thru (which is an amazing perk!) I was expecting to receive a shaved ice that would drip all over on my 20 min drive home but nope, they had lids and a secure container so I was a happy camper. I got two flavors but you can get up to three and this treat was so yummy! I recommend checking the flavor menu prior to going since they have 50 flavors and the combos are endless. Came here to get some spicy popcorn for mother's day. I bought my mom white cheddar habanero and a very small bag of ghost pepper. This place is just down right awesome. The customer service is superb. I was in with my boys getting some ice cream and I thought when I ordered that I may have forgotten to tell the employees that I ordered a shake. I mentioned this to the manager just to make sure I didn't make an error when ordering and she had the shake made and gave us a free coupon for the wait. It was not even a long wait and was more on me but this shows you what kind of a great business this is. One that takes care of their customers no matter what.
