I have horrible vision and astigmatism and Dr. Jeff is the first doctor to ever get me to 20/20.(I'm -12.5 and -11. They helped me navigate getting new insurance after I lost mine and he also put me into custom lenses which my previous 8 or so optometrists never did and they're so permable and fit so well that my eyes don't become horribly red and itchy by 5 pm every day like they used to. I ended up referring my parents and my Mom wear Eyeris contacts which Dr. Jeff actually invented! So I really really suggest coming here especially if your eye issues are more complicated or if you've never felt like your doctor really worked to give you the best fitting contacts give them a try! read more

I am new to Nashville and was looking for a good, reputable optometrist to handle my eye health needs. I am highly knowledgable about optometry/ophthalmology, having built several companies in this field and helped establish many of the CPT codes used by these providers today. Unfortunately, Optique is engaging in unethical billing practices. This provider forces its patients to undergo unnecessary diagnostic procedures, for which there is no underlying condition or risk factor. In other words, they are forcing patients to undergo procedures that are not medically necessary and then either billing the patient's insurance or forcing the patient to pay out of pocket. This is billing fraud. I have notified my insurance carrier of this company's practices, and they confirmed that these practices are fraudulent. Watch out. read more

I very hesitantly write this review as my actual experience at my appointment was quite pleasant, but what happened after was completely unprofessional, deceitful, and unethical. I recently moved to Nashville and needed to find a new eye doctor, and was referred to Optique when the first place I contacted told me they weren't taking new patients. I found it a bit odd that after wearing contacts for 20+ years and being in the same prescription for the past 10, the doctor told me I was being "over corrected" and reduced the strength of my Prescription, but I went with it. She also told me the contacts I had been wearing for years and did not have issues with were old and outdated and no one wears these anymore, so she asked me if I would like to switch to a new brand. Again, a bit odd, but agreed to try them (fully acknowledge that in retrospect I should have asked more about the new brand, but I had no reason to doubt them at this point). Fast forward about 3 weeks, the new prescription and new brand just do not fit my eyes well at all. They were popping out of my eyes nonstop and I could not see as clearly as I could with my previous prescription (because, again, I was in the wrong prescription). I google the new contact brand to see what was up and come to find out that the new brand they "recommend for everyone" is in fact a startup owned by one of the doctors at this practice, that just began selling contact lenses at the beginning of this year. To say I was floored is an understatement. I genuinely cannot believe the doctors at this practice are pushing the product that one of the other doctors own without so much as telling people about this massive conflict of interest. The doctor I saw made absolutely zero mention of this. I would not at all been upset if I had been informed of this, but very strongly feel I was tricked into purchasing these lenses without any of the information. To be fair, I called and spoke to someone who was very nice and agreed to switch out my lenses for my old prescription and my old brand (which is really all I wanted in the first place) at no additional cost, which I do appreciate. I attempted to voice my concerns over what I feel was an extremely unprofessional and unethical business practice and was met with a hesitant acknowledgment that yes, one of the doctors did own this company, but not much else. I am happy they corrected the issue but I will never go to this office again. read more

Let me start out by saying that I really like Dr. Michele Sonsino - I first visited her when she was located in Franklin, and I started visiting here when she opened up Optique. She's very personable, very open, and will put you at ease. She will also answer any questions you have & doesn't try to rush you through the process. Then the frame selection....aaahhhh. I love my most recent Banana Republic frames that took me nearly an hour to pick out! And I was able to get new lenses for my Ralph sunglasses I already had. I tried doing this at Lenscrafters & they wouldn't do it - they said I had to purchase brand new ones from them. Yeah, right! I do also appreciate the fact that if you don't have vision insurance, just tell them & they do have a smaller selection of lower-priced frames. They aren't as cute as all the Kate Spades but they aren't terrible either. What's funny is that I realize I sound like a frame-snob-designer-name-dropper right now, and I could really care less! Optique has two operations in one shop: Eye doctors and opticians. Based on my one-time experience, the doctors were good, the opticians were not. I saw Dr. Michele Sonsino, and that experience was very good. I would repeat. The glasses did not work out well. I cannot use them for computer work, so I use my "old" pair for that. Again, from my experience, the optical group did not seem to be in the same league as the doctors. I would not repeat. read more

They were able to fit us in last minute right before they closed (for an eye emergency), we were immediately greeted with genuine, friendly staff members. So I had my first appointment and my health insurance as a graduate student only offers a discounted optical plan. For $93.00 I got a retinal scan for eye health, a complete diagnosis, and was in and out in less than 30 minutes. Fabulous! Dr. Sonsino greeted me as I checked in and she was super friendly. Her staff was wonderful as I waited for the assistant to call my name. My prescription didn't change and Dr. Sonsino was even from Chicago so good to know people from home! I would totally recommend a visit to her if you are looking for a good eye doctor! read more

It's hard to describe where all the problems began, but after getting a decent prescription the previous few years ago and a bit overdue for my next one due to the pandemic, I visited Optique again to update things. I initially received a contacts prescription along with a glasses one, that I waited about a month or so to order a frame/lenses for. The contact prescription seemed fine, but after getting glasses I had noticeable problems seeing well with my right eye, as if the lens was just out of focus. I returned to the same Optometrist to recheck this, got new lenses, but the problem remained. I then saw the main Optometrist (who was very nice and everything) and who then recommended progressives, as I am nearing that age. Sadly, the new lenses were even worse, and the problem with the vision in the right eye remained. I am certainly no optometrist, but it would seem like the problem was that there was some sort of disconnect in the makeup of the lenses I kept getting versus what I was seeing in the chair when my eyes were examined. I have had glasses for most of my life, and I just don't understand what was going wrong, but for whatever reason the issue could not be resolved. The business did at least offer a full refund after I contacted them about returning the glasses. I will have to go elsewhere at this point for glasses, but I have lost months and a lot of time dealing with the issue. read more

I remember that day long ago when I found out I needed contacts...it was annoying because I was completely annoyed that my eyes could be so weak. But I was amazed when I put my first pair in and could see far away again! Yay! So I have vision insurance again and since I was almost out of contacts I decided to go have an exam, make sure my eyes are still the same prescription, and go from there. The people at Optique were super friendly from start to finish. I was pretty much the only person in there for a while and everyone was paying attention to me which was nice. I got contacts, which they conveniently had in stock, and was encouraged to get some glasses since I do not own a pair. The entire thing about glasses really bothers me. I think I look stupid in them. I think they make me look old. I think they are annoying, like looking through a window instead of actually seeing the world. So yeah, I'm not the biggest fan and also not the easiest person to help with choosing frames. I've tried this before and left with no glasses, so you see how much I don't like it. Well, this time I was helped by a very nice associate that had me try on all sorts of frames and I finally found some that were ok. They aren't great but they are ok and don't make my face look more wide/square than it already is (what's with all the square frames today anyway? They look horrible on me!!). And she didn't push the Prada/Gucci/way too much money to be paying for glasses that I refuse to wear brands. Nice! So overall the price tag, even with insurance, was kind of pricey but that's because my insurance is kind of lame. But I got everything taken care of and the glasses were ready in a week. The experience was easy and at times even kind of fun, so I was pleased with the experience. read more

I went to Optique for my first eye appointment in Nashville and they try to over charge you for almost everything. They tried to charge me for something I didn't purchase as I checked out and the other option they push for taking photos of your eyes was not worth it compared to dilating your eyes for at most an hour. I also purchased contacts from them that are supposedly less expensive than what I was already using but come to find out, they just up charge the same ones when on 1800 contacts they were $32 less per box and as I checked out they said it would be 180 days worth of contacts when it was only 90. If I was told the truth in the first place, I would have gotten mine online instead where it would have saved me money. I've never been charged $175 for a 90 day supply ever in my life since I started wearing contacts 8 years ago. I will never return back here because their lack of honesty and their over priced charge. read more

So many things to love about my recent eye appointment. (never really thought I'd say that...). I detest having my eyes dilated. I understand the importance, but I really, really hate it. No problem here, though, because they've got an amazing camera that takes pictures of your retinas completely painlessly. The receptionist and Dr. Sonsino were both so friendly and great to work with. I had a complete eye exam, contact fitting, and purchased a years supply of new lenses, all within thirty minutes. I also love that when you call and make a new patient appointment, they instruct you to fill out a secure medical history form on their website to send to them-when it's convienient for you instead of when you're waiting in their office. Dr. Sonsino is a professional and I have always been pleased with her services however the business side of things were not professional today. If there is a procedure that cost extra, the staff should make that known and clear upfront. When presented my bill today and given the answer on why I was charged an extra fee, I informed the staff member that I was not pleased with the process and she basically ignored me. I do not mind paying for services but I however mind being "sneaked" into paying for a service that wasn't necessary. Please do better. read more

I avoided getting an eye exam for 5 years, but I finally visited Optique upon recommendation of a coworker. And I'm so glad I did! Dr. Sonsino and his staff made the process as easy and painless as possible. It was easy to schedule an appointment, and when I arrived for my appointment, I had no wait to see the doctor. Dr. Sonsino was very knowledgeable and friendly. He explained each test that he was performing so that I wasn't freaked out or surprised. When it came time to pick frames for my new glasses, the staff was very helpful. The staff allowed me to try on as many frames as I wanted as many times as I wanted without rushing me. Dr. Sonsino and his staff are caring and kind. Because I have keratoconus and must wear hard lenses, I can be difficult to fit. I worked with Randy and Dr. Sonsino and can now see better than I have in years. I can't thank them enough. I am so happy with my corrected vision. Writing this review before even leaving the parking lot. Third visit to Optique. First was in November for an eye exam/contact fitting. Being new to the area, I had no idea where to go. Found this place online and thought I'd give it a try. Worst experience ever. They were not friendly, nice, warm, welcoming or helpful. The Dr had just eaten onions prior to my visit and got all up in my face and reeked of onions. Came in a second time in December for an adjustment because the initial prescription hurt my eyes; no improvement on customer service, however the new prescription seemed to be better. Dreaded coming back to actually purchase my contacts. Finally did today. Ran my card several times for my purchase. Apparently they were experiencing issues with their system. Stood there for several minutes while the staff chatted with each other and no explanation, apology of the issue or wait to me. So glad to be done with this place. Hopeful they can turn it around for future customers, but I don't plan on being one of them. read more

My first disappointment with Optique came after booking an appointment during a lunch hour (which typically has never been a problem) and after signing in and waiting over an hour, I finally had to cancel. I understand appointments go long and especially doctor's offices run late, but as a professional courtesy, I think the receptionist should let clients know on the FRONT end that the doctor is running behind and allow the client decide if they want to waste and hour+ in the waiting room for an appointment that may or may not happen. Upon cancellation the receptionists apologized profusely and said they will make note to get me in as soon as I call back with my availability. That takes us to the call back...I called back and decided I would make appointments for myself and my daughters. As a single mom who works full time, getting all these done in one day is the only way I can efficiently get things done. I then learned from the receptionist (remember, the one who said they would do their best to accommodate me)....that it was their policy to not allow families to make more than one appointment per day. Huh? She said they have had too many cancellations and that it wasted time if there were no shows and they couldn't afford to allow that to happen. So.....let me get this straight, Optique...it's okay for you to waste an hour of my time, but NOT okay for you to take a chance on my family actually keeping their appointments? Well, you lost these three clients *BAM* just like that. read more

I have never had such a terrible experience at an eye doctor (which is weird, b/c I've been wearing the same type of lenses since age 11, and it's never been that hard to get my contacts and glasses right). Because my Vanderbilt doctor was leaving, I started calling Optique in Jan. 2014 to get an appt. They had none, but put me on the cancellation list. I thought. Called back in early March, desperate to get in with 2 weeks left before leaving the country for an extended period, and they were able to find a slot. The assistant was very rude and not personable as she took me to see the doctor, and then went through my medical history again even though I had filled out the online form (so basically I wasted my time), since she said it was easier for her to just listen and type it in rather than use the form I already filled out. Before agreeing to the exam, I made sure that I would be able to have enough time to order contacts, come in for a fitting, and then order them again (although this has never been necessary in the past). The next week, I found out the the staff hadn't even order the contacts until 4 days later, which meant I only had time for one lens fitting. They ordered a bizarre combination of blue and green tinted lens even though I requested both blue tints. Office staff refused to give me my records, the results of my eye exam, or lens prescription, and charged twice as much per contact as I normally pay. Dr. Sonriso called himself an RGB expert, but he failed to find an astigmatism, and got both glasses and contacts prescriptions off in both eyes by over a full number, and each was either way over powered, or under powered. The office staff didn't have a clue what was going on, and Dr. Sonriso was arrogant, and yet still couldn't get my prescription right. After my move I went to a new doc, and he got it right in one try. So it wasn't just a weird thing with my eyes. After I wrote a letter complaining of the treatment I received and asking for a refund of the exam (since I had to pay out of pocket to go to a different doctor to correct Optique's mistake), I received a short paragraph response, noting that it's very difficult to fit RGP lenses b/c wearing them leads to changes in the shape of the eye. While this may be true, I've never gone to an eye doc more than once to update a lens scrip. Saying "it's hard" is no excuse for getting the lens scrip wrong, and certainly not for getting the glasses scrip wrong. I'm filing a complaint with the BBB and the TN Board of Opthamology. It sounds like they do an OK job with new eye patients, but the office staff and the doctors are complete bumbling idiots. read more

I have been going to this optometrist since I first moved to Nashville and I think it will stay that way until I leave. Dr. Michelle Sonsino and her staff are some of the nicest people I've ever encountered in a doctor's office. They remember names and faces, are always more than willing to help, and should disaster strike (my glasses broke, there's something in my eye, etc) they are more than able to accommodate you should you need to get in right away. They remind you when its time to make that yearly eye appointment (without being annoying about it) and can answer any questions you may have regarding billing and services. And they have a wonderful selection of glasses! I bought a pair here that I have worn for years now any are still stylish and complimented often. And they are conveniently located on West End with hours on Saturdays as well. If you are new to town, or in the market for a new optometrist, I highly recommend this amazing team. read more

Great selection of designer glasses! Both my husband and I found great pair of glasses!! Dr. Sonsino is very professional and friendly too. My main issue is with the staff customer service. They were helpful when we ordered our glasses, but they were extremely rude when we came for adjustments! They didn't smile or even greet me. What a complete opposite experience from the same store and people! I felt unwelcome and I won't be coming back for future appointments. I hope Dr. Sonsino reads this so she can do something about her staff. I'd hate for her to lose customers not by her own doing, but by the doing of her rude employees. read more

I visited this place back in January and I must say the staff was nice however I was lied to about a required service which cost me 30.00. My insurance company told me the charge was for a picture not the service. Then upon checking out they charged me for a covered service. I took my benefits coverage information with me so as she offered the extra scratch guard which was an extra 60 I begin to look at my paperwork and asked her is this what your charging me for its free. At this time she has already ran my check. No one knew how to cancel the check then the doctor looked into it and advised it was only sent to their lock box and as long as no one takes my actual check I would be fine, so I paid with my card and took the torn up check with me. I am writing today because as of yesterday they decided to process this check for 97 bucks. I don't know about you but I don't have money to give away. The sad thing is I think many vision and dental providers take advantage of the consumers lack of knowledge as it pertains to benefits coverage. I had been going to a chain place before, and I found optique online. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! The eye test machines are in the exam rooms for privacy, and they don't have those machines that blow air into your eyes. (which was always my least favorite part of eye exams). The staff was great and really delved into my medical history. I saw the male Dr. Sonsino and he was great, had an amazing energy about him, and was very knowledgeable about my eyeballs. He did several tests that the chain places didn't do and actually gave me the results. I always like to test out a business' customer service by not looking the greatest the first time i go to see if I get treated differently. I was treated the exact same with a messy bun, ratty t shirt and pajama pants as the people before and after me in stilettos and Rolexs. Gina sat with me for at least an hour while I tried on different frames and gave me a definite "take those off right now" advice when i put on frames that didn't look great on me. I had seen some frames I wanted online, but they didn't have them in the store. She actually looked them up online, ordered them and wanted me to come in and try them on before she ordered the lenses so we could make sure I liked them. It wasn't just "if you dont see it, we don't have it". She was very easy to talk to, more than just the typical "It's nice outside, what do you do for living" small talk. They took the time to look at both my vision and my medical insurance to find out which one would be more cost effective for me. It seems like alot of the less than stellar reviews mention the wait time to get an appt. Who wants to go to a Dr. that isn't busy? Being booked that far in advance means this place is doing something right. The only thing is I feel that pricing is high, but I'm used to the cheap franchises and you get what you pay for. I wanted the best and I definitely got that at optique. I can't wait for my next eye exam! read more

My partner got me a gift card to this place for $110. When I called they said the exam was $128, I don't have eye insurance, and another doctor nearby gives an exam for less than half of that, so I did my exam and got my prescription written there and intended to come to Optique to use the gift card on my lenses. The lenses I needed were a special alternative to multifocal lenses (Eyezin), and when I called to ask Optique if they had these, they said they had a different kind of the same thing (Shamir Blue 0) and gave me a quote that was slightly more expensive than the price the other place gave me. When I looked them up, though, these turned out to just protect from blue light - not the same as what I needed at all. So I bought my lenses elsewhere and came in to see if I could get the card refunded because they couldn't fill my prescription. The receptionist was extremely rude when I explained the situation and asked, kindly, if this was possible. The doctor I spoke to was friendlier, but when I explained again what I needed and that what he said they had was not the same thing, he looked them up and found that they could in fact get this type of lenses through their brand - for literally 100% more than what I had already paid at another nearby location. I thought they might be sympathetic to the fact that (1) what they told me they had when I called was not what my prescription called for and (2) even if I were to have gotten the lenses I actually needed there I would have ended up paying literally twice as much, hundreds of dollars more *even with the gift card.* The doctor said he would check with the owner, but they ultimately refused to refund the gift card. read more

My experience with Optique has been nothing short of a nightmare. I have a severe astigmatism in both eyes and consider myself to be "hard to fit" for contact lenses. I requested an appointment with Dr. Jeff Sonsino because of his experience with "hard to fit" patients. My initial appointment, by some mistake, ended up being with Michelle Sonsino, who gave me an exam & prescribed the wrong contacts for me. For the next appt., I made sure it was with Dr. Jeff Sonsino. For 6 months, he tried to fit me in a pair of contact lenses. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't complain about how long this has taken if I had been trying out numerous brands of contacts. But I only tried 2 different pairs. There have been too many instances of the ball being dropped with the ordering, they didn't call me when the lenses came in, my calls weren't returned, or the doctor being out of town for research presentations or vacations. This office is the most unprofessional medical practice I have ever dealt with. I haven't had any interaction with the opticians, but one in particular, is one of the rudest people I have ever observed (big girl, glasses, dark hair). Jeff Sonsino is a very knowledgable, nice man, but I think he needs to concentrate on either research or tending to his practice and his patients. I am so glad to be done with this 6 months of frustration and am looking forward to seeing another optometrist!!! read more
