Optimum WiFi is awful. There are constant drop outs and if you use VPN they are completely useless. Customer service just keeps telling me to reboot the router. Works for about 20 minutes and then starts dropping out again. I was told by the installer I'd have great coverage with a router and an extender, my service sucks. read more

If it were possible to give less than one star, I would. First off, I was a customer from 1984, through 2019 with a three year window with satellite service. When I resumed Optimum service, their technician vandalized my property by cutting all my buried cables to my ground mounted satellite dish. The cable connection was totally separate from the satellite cable run. In 2019, we sold our house, returned all equipment as we cancelled our service. The new homeowners had Optimum reinstalled with days of closing. Nevertheless, Optimum billed me for service for the month AFTER we cancelled. Billed for ewuipment we returned, service we were not using for a property we no longer owned. Their answer, it is theur policy to bill a month in advance. Never mind they advertise, NEVER a contract....only a "policy." I tried to get the charges cancelled. No success. I refused to pay, they sent me to collection. After over 20 years of service, plus I had my business service with them. 5+ years later, I still get collection notices from 3rd parties. As far as I am concerned, they are a bunch of scammers who bully people to pay for things not provided. Many roll over and pay, I responded by reporting them to the Department of Consumer Protection. All this after I made a vouple of small good faith payments in case I used a hot spot with my Company cell phone. My parents were the first family that had Cablevision (Optimum now)...in either 74 or 76. Cable used to be 11 or 12 dollars a month. We had a push button box with no remote. Fast forward to now they were like $298 to $300 a month. That was for a land line, cable TV and internet. And I just couldn't afford it anymore. Little did we know we were being raped bad by them. Someone told me about the Fire stick and that was it. Find the cheapest Internet wifi and your set. The Fire Stick costs $20 on sale not on sale it's $30. It's still worth it. So why am I doing this review...I returned a router and a wifi gateway. They said that was due a $180 dollar credit. They said I owed $61.82 dollars. I said take that off the $180 and give me a credit which was like $118 and change. Now they are saying I owe the $61.82 to them and I'm not getting the credit back. They are TOTAL SHEISTERS!!!!! I was a customer with Cablevision and then Optimum for 25 years. I was approached by another vendor and considered making a change. The price with Optimum was high and I had to call them every few years to complain. They would lower the price some but then it would creep back up gradually. Over time I had to reset my cable box regularly to fix problems. More recently I had to reset one or both of my cable boxes every day. It was annoying. The more I considered the new vendor the better it looked so I decided to go with them. Optimum reacted badly when I called them to cancel. It got hostile and I felt like I was being bullied into staying. I ended up in a screaming match with one of their personnel. Trying to cancel was a stressful experience when it should have been easy. Afterall, it's my money and I should be able to decide what I want to do with it. In the end they offered me all sorts of deals but being treated like that wasn't worth any savings. I'd rather not watch TV. I'm happier with the new vendor and the technology seems more solid. read more

This store is a total joke. I called 611 this morning to get a new remote control for my tv. They told me to go to the store and it would be free for the first time. My current remote control broke and I went to the store and there was 3 people at the window and they had a security guard watching the door and not letting anyone in and made 8 people standing outside in the cold. When I finally got in after 45 minutes the clerk told me I had to pay 12 dollars for the remote. I totally went postal and said if I don't get this remote for free I am canceling my account. Once again, Optimum has proven it's customer service to be AWFUL. I have a defective cable box. It took hours of speaking to robots on phones, getting disconnected, literally two days until I could get an appointment scheduled. I missed half a day of work to wait for the technician. He never came. After another 1/2 hour of trying to get a human on the phone, I was told he just didn't get to it and I'd have to schedule again. The problem is that there is no competition in Connecticut, so they don't give a damn. What we need is Verizon to start providing FIOS service here, and then maybe they'd become more responsive. I disconnected from Optimum on June 1st. ,2022 The divorce did not go well. On June 24th, I got a bill for $151.80. I called customer service to ask why and the rep told me that was a mistake and my account has a zero balance. Three months later I get a letter/bill from a collections company demanding payment. So they tell me I don't owe anything and then send me to collections. Great company! Unethical, dishonest, incompetent. Supervisors don't call you back. I just had Optimum 300 for half month and I thought I Optimum 200 would be enough for me. I called them on July 23rd and they said on the phone that they've changed my plan to Optimum 200 with about $45, which is fair. They also promised that the new billing would be effective next day, July 24. While today, August 5, I received my bill and I was still at Optimum 300 with it's billing, $55. I called them and they said this is a promotional price. If I change to Optimum 200 I would be paying even more. I escalated this and scheduled a callback of a manager on August 6. This place is the cable equivalent of the DMV. Complete with its own security guard. The staff behind the window are surprisingly more helpful than at the DMV but still lack any personality at all. Absolutely horrible. Scheduled an appointment for Sunday, between 11 and 2. Given it was a sunday, I was surprised. But hey, this is a big corporation offering it. Ordered two cable boxed with a modem for what I thought was a good deal. I've had cablevision before and it was ok. First, when I signed up, they refused to install because of a $75 balance i owed back in 2007. I mean for real? Back when the economy was collapsing and I was unemployed, you're doing this? They refused to let it go. Fine. I'll pay. This should have been a red flag. Then, 30 minutes for 2pm, they called and said the technician won't be here until 2:15. Guess who knocks on the door at 3pm? Yep. The installer was very unprofessional. Told him where to set up everything, and where the drill. He ignored each and every instruction. Than on top of that, he didn't fix the holes he erroneously drilled in our floor. And on top of that, he insisted we had one cable box, but my confirmation and his back office said two. But he was right (sarcasm). On top of that, after he left, we channel surfed. Turns out one of the boxes he gave us is broken. So we are looking at a pixelated tv. When I called cablevision, they said "we charge up to $60 if it turns out the equipment s ok". You know what optimum, you should guarantee your delivery, have professional installers, and guarantee your service. It isn't our fault your technicians and untrained and unprofessional. I've never had this issue with RCN, who would send someone next day if smething was wrong, and NOT CHARGE YOU. Time Warner was able to do this stuff remotely. They routinely provide you with inconsistent information on the phone and transfer you repeatedly to others who claim not to be able to see any information about your previous conversation on the account. I asked to speak with a manager to get an elderly family member a cheaper bill & asked to speak with a manager after I was told the only way to get a cheaper bill is to drop Altice & come back a few months later. The reps are off shore & hard to understand but also very rude. They told me a manager would call me back & never did. I called back & got the same speech about a manager calling me back, I said that no one returns my calls. I asked to stay on hold & she was SUPER rude. She told me no & then asked what else can she go for me...really????? I asked to speak with someone to file a complaint & she hung up on me. Sometimes out of frustration from having YouTube videos either not load or load at a blurry resolution and Netflix doing the same I turn on my cellphone hotspot and use that instead. Service use to be at least usable, whatever they did in the last couple of years broke it. read more
