A warning but also a hint. Directv is terrible....honestly, really bad. Their streaming software is worthless and their support is less than reliable. But there is a silver lining. They are desperate to keep customers. For the past few years, we simply call, attempt to cancel (and we are honestly attempting to cancel) and they cut the price for the next year substantially. It's really kind of sad. Since AT&T has gotten involved the service has gone from bad to worse. The only reason we keep it around is for the NFL Sunday Ticket. If you're considering Directv, I'd say don't bother. If you are with them already, give canceling a shot, you might just save some money. We had DirecTV satellite service for several years, then switched to Dish a few years back for a (slightly) lower subscription price. When Dish kept increasing our monthly fee, we decided to switch to DirecTV Stream. After I signed up for the "no-risk" trial of DirecTV Stream, I called Dish to cancel that overlapping service. At that point, Dish transferred me over to a customer retention specialist who made me an offer that we could not refuse. At that point, I signed up with Dish, then called DirecTV to bail out of their service. Good luck! I was beyond their 14-day trial and could not cancel without paying them for the entire 2 year contract. They were holding me hostage. I then called Dish to explain the situation to them and to cancel that service that we had just ordered the day before, and THEY also tried to hold me hostage and expected me to pay for an entire 2 year contact. After threatening Dish with legal action and reminding them that the contract could be revoked within 3 business days, they caved in. So now we are stuck with DirecTV Stream for 2 years. It came with the one Gemini device and remote. We have two TVs, and I was not willing to pay them to lease another remote, so I bought two more online. We have had frequent and recurring problems, where we are watching recorded programming and where an error message suddenly pops up, saying that it has lost our Internet connection (which is total nonsense). The only way to escape this when it happens (error code 10007-013) is for me to restart the device. I had to do this yesterday and again today. So much for "streaming". I called DirecTV when this occurred today, and their technical support was totally useless. She wanted me to reboot my Starlink modem, which is working fine with a dozen other devices in our house, including the other TV. I have also had issues where I have had to totally reprogram one of the Gemini remotes after it kept freezing up. Tried to get Direct TV Streaming. I contacted then via chat from their web page and was told that for the first month the price for the Choice package it would be $59.99 then after the first month it would be $89.99. this included Regional sports with unlimited DVR without the Gemini dongle. Today when I tried to purchase this package I was told that the price would be $59.99 for the first month and $105.99 for the months after that. I was told there would be $15.99 regional sports charge and the only way I could get unlimited DVR was with the Gemini dongle. Even though I had copied the conversation from the day before and pasted that in the chat from today I was told that Eva (the bot) was wrong and the price would be $105.99 after the first month. I was promised by frontier, a partner with direct tv, to provide tv, phone and internet at a certain rate. Direct tv provided service first and was ok although the installer was rather stupid, mounting a dish on a barn door ????? Then frontier came out and told me I was too far from a box or something and the internet service would have the speed of 2005 dialup. Told them to forget it and take their direct tv with them. They of course told me they couldn't . I contact direct tv, spend hours on the phone with customer service, poorly trained in English, I send back unit and then receive a 511.00 bill for early cancellation. I spend a few more hours on phone with them, again poor English, told me remove amount and few weeks later on my credit report. These people are the worst, criminals. Less than a year ago the guy at AT&T when I got a new phone talked me into getting DIRECTV. This is the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life. I would not recommend DIRECTV to my worst enemy. Worst Customer Service ever. And very bad service too. When you call the main Direct TV's Customer Service, you get transferred to an out of USA Help Desk. The Representatives read from a script with very bad English accent. I must have called Direct TV more than 10 times, and my experience has been very disappointing every time. I was told by an AT&T local store Representative that my first and second year bill will be around $70.00 (includes Choice, HBO for ever, Showtime, and STARS). He and the Manager gave me lip service to make me join. I was promised $300.00 incentive to join. I only received $200.00. I am in my ninth week and have not received the remaining $100.00. False promises. I left a message for the Store manager a week ago and have not heard back from him yet. April's bill was $114.82 instead of $71.00. TV is very bad when it rains. I finally chatted on line where they told me they can't ding any transactions, ;nothing in my name etc. They are taking 'money out of my account yet they say there is nothing on file. I took the day off from work and unplugged all my boxes, etc. etc., just to find out they couldn't provide me with the service I wanted. Their representatives lie through their teeth. I especially love how they charge lower rates the first year and then the following year they hit you with 3x the amount, completely out of the ball park and outrageous. Sadly, I can't give it zero stars. The satellite started to go bad over a couple of weeks then crapped out completely on the Friday before the Super Bowl. They then promised to come out Sunday and fix it. Great! Except they never showed and never called. My regular appointment had been made for Wednesday. But when they rescheduled for Monday, they cancelled the Wednesday appointment. And then didn't show on Monday. They finally showed up on Thursday. Without the equipment to fix my dish. So they told me they could come out with the proper equipment. The next Wednesday. I'll be without satellite for 13 days. This for a premium price? The problem is that their installers and repair guys are sub contractors who don't work directly for AT&T/Direct TV. So there is no coordination between them and the parent company. Yell at the complaint line all you want (I did). It won't matter. Optimum/Cablevision was pretty shoddy in customer service, but at least it worked. I just spent another 20 minutes with Direct TV's outsourced customer service department- asking repeatedly to " say that again please". Very frustrating. I have canceled my service with them. I received an email in January informing that my service won't change but my monthly bill will go from $82.25 to $136.08 beginning in February. I have no contract with Direct TV (and I've returned my equipment) yet I was told I would have to pay thru February 23 as that is my billing cycle. I spoke with 3 people- 2 of whom were supervisors- and they all kept telling me their trained response " AT and T no longer allows pro-rated billing. All customers must pay through their billing cycle. With no contract how is this legal? Neither supervisor could explain. The worst customer service I've ever experienced. Our service was inexplicably cancelled while we were watching the evening news, despite being prompt paying customers over the last 10 years. When I called customer service to get our signal back, i was informed that they could provide it on 2/11. Hard to watch the National Championship Game on 2/11, when it is being played on 1/7. Fortunately, we have a Spectrum TV account that allows us to watch the game on Watch ESPN. Never again will I use AT&T or DirecTV, and I urge you to avoid them also. read more

I was a happy and loyal customer for 6 years but that quickly ended. I had a tech come out to the house and he did nothing. He suggested I upgrade the equipment only to find out it is because he gets sales credits for that. He also signed me up for a protection plan without my knowledge and consent. When I talked to customer retention they gave me 60 off per month and again without my knowledge or consent entered me into a 1 year contract for the discount. I didn't find this out until I received an email from them that said my additional discount would automatically renew with a 2 year contract and I called to decline that. Twice in one day they entered me I to agreements without my consent or knowledge which is very illegal. It seems that since they were bought out by AT&T the customer service dropped off. I have had Direct TV for the past 6 years!! I would get all the channels including pay previews to the point my bill was $300. plus a month, I had auto pay so I always paid on time. About 4 months ago I had Direct TV install the new wireless system and the day they put it in was the last day I had cable. I have called Direct TV customer service now 10 times and every time I wait 20 mins and get disconnected when asking to speak to a manager!!! Today 6/13/2018 I finally after 2 hours spoke with Megan, a manager who I'm less than a minute was yelling at me that I will pay the outstanding $600. Or they will report to my credit bureau and when I asked repetily to speak to another manger she yellled fuck you sir you can call back for that. I hung up in disgust at one time I was reminded that I was a valued customer. Now an attitude every time I call and no one has ever called back to make sure I was taken care of. They are one of the worst customer service companies in the game. My good friend is a regional for att and he said he tell his guys never to offer the wireless routing system because he even knows it doesn't provide the service it's intended too. I was a DirecTV customer for more than 10 years. I had their services for TV only, and even my parents have them as well. I had to cancel my service to bundle tv and internet, and prior to leaving I tried to bundle with them, however I was told they only bundle for new customers? Wtf is that? Anyways, they didn't even offer internet in my area, this is why I had to leave for Cox. Cox owns all of the internet nearby as well as AT&T (now Frontier) but our ATT bill was going skyhigh. So, I was told I was out of contract, and no early termination fee would be imposed (duh). Then 4 days after cancelling service, I get a bill for $470.37........$440 of which was a cancellation fee. I called very upset due to a supervisor previously telling me that I was able to cancel with no fees because I was out of contact------you bet they reversed the charges and credited me. Best part of the story is that they OWE ME money!! I will be getting a check for overages (only like $20 bucks) but this was a very very shady last ditch effort by them. read more

i signed up online for cable and internet combo a week ago. i was given an appointed time and date for installation from 12noon to 4PM on May 17th. I had to use a vacation day to make sure someone was home when the installer arrives. I did not get any phone call or email. when i tried to call their toll free number i could not get through the automated answering system. also this company does not allow cancellation of the service by email. so i am stuck trying to get through their ' busy' automated phone answering service. if you're planning to sign up think very very hard because this kind of disregard for customers form this company means more anguish later. pay the extra money somewhere else for internet and cable tv. read more

I was looking to switch to a cheaper plan from comcast as my contract was up. Called directv and was told immediately that I was speaking to a supervisor. I guess I'm supposed to feel honored that he happened to pickup my call. After going over all my questions to which he never explained unless I specially asked, i.e. 12 months with a 24 month contract. What does that mean? How much will it be in month 13? When he asked for my ssn and dob I said I wasn't going to give that out (because no ones identity ever gets compromised) until I had made my decision. I wish I could give this company negative stars. They have zero infrastructure and no idea what they are doing. After selling my house I called to cancel my service since where we are staying while house hunting already has tv service. The first 15 minutes of the call was spent trying to get me to transfer my service instead of cancel. Ridiculous. Finally, after a 20 minute phone call my service is cancelled and I am told boxes to return equipment are being mailed to me. Mind you, to cancel my Internet with Comcast took all of 5 minutes. A day or two later, direct tv emails me a bill, but I cannot pay it online because my account is deactivated. So today, I spent 30 minutes on the phone trying to get them to send me a paper bill because I do not trust giving them payment information over the phone. Also, I had noted the address the boxes were supposed to be coming to was spelt wrong, so when the billing guy asked me to confirm my address I spelled it out. Before asking to be transferred to equipment to ask about the boxes, I had the billing guy confirm where the paper bill was going and he was going to send it to the wrongly spelled address. Seriously?! I just respelled it because I saw the boxes were coming to a non existent address and you couldn't bother to fix it?! And speaking of those boxes......apparently, despite the customer service rep who cancelled my service telling me boxes were being mailed and me getting an email confirming, there are no boxes coming. I have to bring the equipment to Fed Ex or UPS myself. While I was told no need to bring it to them in a box, I have a feeling this may be a big fat lie as well. Well while I got him here I asked how come my tv in my kitchen keeps telling me "no signal" He messed with it and ultimately tells me to call direct tv back and tell them my box is "bad" and set up another service call. So I call direct tv and got the run around. Press this button, unplug that to the tune of 3 hours later. Now I have a picture and no volume and they can not fix it. So I tell them send someone to fix it. No can do!!! We can mail you a new box for $19.99. If we send someone to your home it will be $99.99. OMG I want to get sick. What a lot of crap!!! I signed up for Direct TV at a carnival that I went to. I have been living through hell since that day. This girl named "Marisa" that works for Direct Tv sold me a package that was suppose to have all the channels I wanted and includes internet (sounded great),so I signed up. She gave me a date & time that Direct Tv was coming to my house to install this. I was so excited to get this new service,and here's where the hell began...DAY OF THE INSTALLMENT-they called me to tell me they were running an hour late,an hour past,they never showed,they called me again to tell me it's going to be another hour,so basically they were over 2 hours late,that wasn't so bad,I understand people do run late sometimes,I do it myself once in a while. Anyways, the man came and hooked up my service,and he moved my internet out of my living room into my bedroom,so I asked him...."Am I all set with internet?" He said "Yes,you are on direct Tv's internet now." I asked if it was going to be as fast as my previous internet company,he said "Yes,it will be about the same" ok sounded great with me, so I picked up the new tv remote and I put it on my favorite channel, it didn't work, come to find out my package didn't include none of my favorite channels that "Marisa" told me it would. So the guy that hooked everything up for me,called Direct Tv and signed me up for the package one level above (more money for me) ,anyways,he left. Everything was all hooked up with my new company, things were going good for a couple of days ( I thought), so I called Metrocast (old company) and told them that I want to cancel my accont,because I have a new company, so they shut my account off. All of a sudden my internet stops working. I call Direct Tv and they tell me that they don't even supply internet, they go through AT&T,so they told me to call AT&T. To make a long story a little bit shorter, I had no internet for over 2 weeks. I called "Marisa's" phone (she gave me her personal # when I signed up) and she did nothing to help, but tell me storys. And then I could never get in touch with her again. I called AT&T,they said direct Tv never signed me up, I called Direct Tv,they didn't want to hear anything about it. I didn't know who to turn to. In the mean time, I needed the internet for my occupation...I was losing thousands of dollars from not working....Nobody cared!!!! Finally yesterday AT&T hooked my internet up, and after all that it's very slow and doesn't support Direct Tv's "ON DEMAND" I have lived a nightmae since I signed up. I would not have this problem if "Marisa would have just told me that Direct Tv doesn't have their own internet. Because if I would have known that,then I would have just kept Metrocast's internet. Scheduled a service upgrade two weeks prior because I would be in Chicago on business the following week in between. The morning of my service appointment a woman calls me from 203-701-3706 saying they don't have the parts and don't know when it's coming. Naturally I laugh and remind her she's had two weeks and I took the day off. I ask for a supervisor and she hangs up on me. I call DirecTV who tries to tell me it's not their problem, they're a separate contractor. I tell them, no, I pay you. You pay them. It IS your problem. I ask for their supervisor and get passed from tech to tech, none of which are supervisors. Games. I get a Tanya who not only is not a supervisor but has the wrong account pulled up. I explain my problem. Getting no where I demand a supervisor. I get Adam who says he is a supervisor but keeps talking over me and tells me there's nothing he can do. I ask for his supervisor. I get Jared. All Jared does is the standard playbook apologies and tries to reschedule without listening to the problem. 5 reps, rude conduct, horrible treatment, lost days work ( self employed ) and Jared says he lays tile after work so he understands. I wanted to laugh. Lays tile. We retail millions of dollars in real estate and his $50 credit would cover my first 30 seconds. I ask for better compensation and Jared says there's nothing he can do. I ask to speak to someone who can. Jared tells me, and I quote, "there isn't anyone". So I ask he's the top of the line? He says I can write a complaint to a room in Dallas, TX. Sounds like DirecTV has a room that mail goes to but nobody reads. And it sounds like their playbook echoes these steps. This is the situation. I got a good deal with the channel lineup, the number of boxes in my house & I even got a $100 visa gift card for signing up. But I am having trouble watching live streaming tv on my desktop Mac. First, it was my favorite channel, MSNBC, wouldn't come up. Now I can't watch anything, nothing will play. I see the channel lineup, and it doesn't display all my channels in their CHOICE PACKAGE so I'm pissed. Then when I click on anything, that won't play either. So I go thru the 800 number & no, they can't help me. The online support is strictly thru online chat support available up to 10pm Cst. Well, I've gone that route three times with no results. I haven't given up on them though, you might ask why. If I get someone in the Philippines I can ask for someone in the USA & they have to switch me to someone in the good ol USA. Unlike Frontier who has no one in the USA. But I am putting you on notice DIRECT TV. I want good customer service & solutions & if I don't get it, I'll take my 4star credit rating elsewhere. read more
