I'm so upset. I was told I'd meet with an optometrist as advertised. I asked over the phone if they treated styes. I was expecting for them to drain the pimple in my eyelid. I made an appointment, they made me wait 40 minutes after the scheduled time because the girl was "new". Come to find out they don't have an optometrist there. I paid $118 just for her to tell me what I already know, to use warm compresses on my stye and judged me for it. She judged my skin care routine. She told me it's because "guys don't take care of their faces as much". Very sexist, I'm super offended. Huge scam. I regret coming here and do not recommend. read more

I finally decided to look for a optician in my area and this location seemed to have good reviews so I decided why not check it out. I was glad to have found them since I knew I needed and update on my prescription. The eye exam went very quick and the lady that did my exam was very nice and knowledgeable on any questions I had or concerns. When it came time to pick out my glasses I really would like to say I appreciated the patience and the recommendations the lady assisting me to help me find the perfect pair. I will admit I had to have tried on 12 pairs of glasses and after going back and fourth she finally recommended one last pair which ended up being the ones!!! We're in Pheonix for a couple of days from Nashville. Right before getting into town we were involved in a car accident where I was hit in the face by the airbag, while wearing my glasses. I can't say enough good things about Ashley at Optical Expressions. I broke my glasses after wearing them for about 9 years. I had no backup pair, and it was Saturday. I cannot read without my glasses. I found a LensCrafters that did eye exams on Sunday. I went in and got my exam done. When I went to choose my glasses, I found that all of LensCrafters' glasses were horrible for me. I decided I really needed a replacement of the same frames I had (Silhouettes). I Googled all the Silhouette dealers near me and Optical Expressions was the closest. I called them on Monday and told them I had a prescription. They told me they would fill it for me and they gave me a bunch of different options for appointments. I made one for Tuesday morning. When I arrived, I discovered that there were no similar glasses on the shelf. All the lenses were too large for my face (I have small face). Ashley took my old frames and searched the archives for my old glasses and found a new lens with similar dimensions. She told me she could also fix my old glasses, but would need to order a part. She told me the glasses might take a week and a half to 2 weeks, but she could get the part and fix the old ones before the new ones came in. She helped me pick a new frame that was similar to my old one, took down the options I wanted, and placed my order. The glasses were ready quicker than expected, only about a week. When I returned to pick up my new glasses, Ashley adjusted them to fit my face and also repaired my old glasses and adjusted them as well. My new glasses case did not contain a microfiber cloth, I asked her about them and she gave me a couple new ones. All throughout the process she was super friendly and extra helpful. I went to the Camelback location on February 13 to pick out a pair of eye glasses for my son (who already had a prescription) and schedule an exam for myself. When we were there I tried on a pair of frames that I fell in love with and said I want to get these when I come back for my eye appointment and have a current prescription. I was adamant that those were the ones I wanted and even made sure that they would have them and asked someone to put it in my file so I didn't have to go through the run around of trying on a bunch of frames again. Their selection of kids frames were almost non existent so together (the store and myself) devised a plan to order a frame he had tried on previously at another store, they measured and had him try on other options to get an idea of sizing. I then get a call a few weeks later saying the store flooded and they were going to transfer his frames to the Phoenix location and they rescheduled my appointment at the Scottsdale location. Obvious a flood was out of everyone's control and stuff happens so no big deal. I had my eye appointment at Scottsdale and had a beyond pleasant experience. The only frustrating part was when I asked about the frames I had previously seen at the Camelback store there was no notes in my account. I checked the Scottsdale location however unfortunately they did not have them but I knew I had to go to the Phoenix location anyway so I figured I would check there. I then show up and of course they did not have the ones I wanted for myself but I was informed they would order them which was fine because I have contacts/ glasses I can wear in the meantime. When my son tried on the glasses he ordered they did not fit, turns out they ordered them to small. Starting to get a little frustrated I asked if when they get the bigger ones in since he tried them on at a non Optical Expressions if they could have them come in with his prescription already in them but they said no they needed to see him try them on first. I then wait about 3 weeks after that and have not heard back on either of our frames so I call. I was informed his frames were in however mine still weren't. I then get a call less then a week later from the Phoenix location stating the ones they ordered for me they are unable to get but they have some in storage so when the Camelback location re opened I could go back there, they also confirmed my son's frames were in. The lady that I spoke to was very condescending the whole phone conversation and had no patience for any questions. I told her because there had already been back and forth is there a way we could reserve the frames in storage for me so when the new store opens we don't run the risk of someone buying them the day before I get there. The lady told me "there's no one to tell." Offering very little help I decided I would just figure it out when I got to the location. I then go to the Phoenix location today 3/30 with my son for him to try on the new frames and they tell me they don't have them. When I said I spoke to two separate people telling me they were delivered to you they said that they had the shipping slip but apparent the delivery was attempted to the Camelback location (which makes no sense because I told the chubby "manager" with the short curly hair and glasses to send them to the Phx location since there was not a specified reopen date to camelback) since the store was not open they were sent back to the manufacturer. At this point I am beyond frustrated I have left work early on multiple locations to get to this office that closes at 5pm surrounded by the worst traffic just to be let down each time. They tried to blame it on the flood and I explained I have been wearing glasses over 2 decades I have never had anywhere close to the issues I have experienced with them. I would understand if it was with just one of our glasses but we both had major issues and I told them I understand the flood complicated things but there was clearly human error involved in both of these situations you need to own up to that the curly hair lady responded "glasses aren't something to get upset about." I told her that my son has been without glasses for two months because of mistakes they make. I started to tear up and the lady told me you can't be upset in here. After everything we have been through because of you and your teams error that is your response? I have never had such bad service and dealt with someone so inhumane in my entire life. Also while I was in there, there was a gentlemen that walked in for an appointment that they did not have on the books. I even heard one of the girls admit to scheduling it but they turned him away due to not having time so I know the issues they have are not just with me. We had been going to Optical Expression for the last three years. We were willing to accept the ridiculous price of their glasses and Dr. Wilken has always been great to work with. That said the staff is horrific and the reason for my review. Last September we were leaving on a two week vacation and would be out of the country. I made an appointment two weeks before the trip and asked if my new prescription would be available in time and I was assured that it would be. I called 7 days out from the trip to see what the status was and they informed me that the glasses would not be ready in time. I had to travel with an old prescription and scratched lenses. No one took accountability at the office as I kept inquiring about the status and when they finally responded they just said that they don't know who I spoke with or who assured me I could have them in time. Side note: They contacted me the day we landed overseas to tell me that my glasses were ready. Now today my wife and I went for our appointments. I received two texts that the appointment was at 1:30 and I confirmed. Turns out that this was only for my appointment and that my wife's was at 1:00. She did not receive a text to confirm so we both thought that the 1:30 was for the first appointment. When we arrived the receptionist did not know who I was and could not find any record of me. Kept asking if I was a new patient. This is a joke because when my wife scheduled the appointment last week they could find me but not her; again we have been going for a few years. Now today the situation was reversed. I was expecting her to search for my records when the receptionist snapped, "Fill it out!" as she pointed to a stack of new patient paperwork. She walked away from the desk to find the records again. I started to fill out the paperwork in the event that they didn't find it. Then someone else came out to tell us that one of us had to reschedule because we were late for a 1:00 (which was not confirmed...twice!) appointment. That was the final straw so we booked same day appointments at LensCrafters and I am sure we will be taken care of just fine. Lost our business permanently!! We normally support local businesses but Optical Expression is too difficult to work with and absolutely ZERO customer service skills and just a general pissy attitude to the customer. For as many people working there you would think they would have their act together. Do not go here!! You can save yourself the aggravation and some money. **UPDATE**. Dr. Wilken herself did call me to explain that she considers the retinal screening to be the standard of care regardless of COVID 19. I still do not understand why she didn't explain that during my visits with her during the past 20 years and I'm not sure I will return, but it is highly in her favor that she did call me to try to explain her position. I have always felt her to be thorough so this is really jarring to me. It pains me to write this. I never thought I would, but I feel very strongly about it. I hope there has been a misunderstanding and welcome any feedback from the office. I have been a patient of the former owner and one of the current physicians for over 20 years. I have maintained that relationship in spite of my having moved to California over 4 years ago. I felt I was getting professional care and I liked the stylistic selections available for eyewear. I have no plans to return now though given the new retinal screening exam required "due to Covid 19" that is not covered by insurance. Why is it mandatory yet not covered by insurance? Where are the peer reviewed studies that show it is necessary? If it's so critical to my health, why is the front office only instructed to say, "the doctors said so"? I am not interested in being exploited in a time of a NOVEL virus to pay for passive income. If there is truly a reason I should have it, the doctor should explain that to me and there should still be a choice. I can think of no corollary for this in any other setting? I can understand the mask which was the first protocol they explained. This was the second and we got no further. I can understand masks and temperature screenings though we have yet to see if those really help. But a retinal screening??? I want to believe this is in the patient's best interest but I just don't see how it is. I do appreciate being told though so I can find a doctor who is interested in examining me prior to making treatment recommendations. With the contacts I see clearer than I have in a long time. I also got a pair of glasses for working on the computer, which I do all day long. They're amazing. I went to Dr. Wilken after several unremarkable visits to optometrists to keep my contact lense prescription current. I went to Dr. Wilken since their office is close to work. She is very friendly and personable and was very clear in explaining the results of my exam. I was not happy with the brand of contacts my previous optometrist had prescribed (he had prescribed a special brand for people with astigmatism- of which I have very slight case-that I found to be very uncomfortable) Dr. Wilken told me that I did not need special contact lenses and prescribed a brand that was a lot more comfortable. I would recommend her to anyone as she really takes the time to give her patients the care that they need. The entire office staff are friendly and helpful as well with the exception of the receptionist. She is polite enough but definitely takes heself too seriously. There was a slight misunderstanding about a follow up appointment I had. When I showed up for the appointment and checked in with her she could not find me in their books. She asked me somewhat abrasively "Who made this appointment for you?" She warmed up a little when I showed her the appointment card that SHE had written me the week before. I don't expect a band playing or a spray of confetti when I walk in the door, maybe just a smile and a little warmth. Other than that though, your eyes and your optical needs will be well looked after here. read more

Found the glasses I've been trying to find for several months. They told me it would be a week or more before the frames arrived - it was two days. Told me the same for the frames with the lenses - it was probably three days. I was very pleased! The staff here seems to be incompetent. I had my appointment a month ago and ordered glasses at that time. They told me the glasses would be ready in 10 days. The July 4 holiday was within those 10 days, so I figured it might take a couple extra days. One month later, I still had not received any call from them that the glasses are ready. When I called this morning, and after a five-plus minute wait on hold, they informed me that they tried calling once but it was busy. In this day and age, I am not even sure if it is possible to get a busy tone on a cell phone, but even so, did they think to try again at some point? No! That's horrible service. It doesn't seem like they even cared to call me or try again. Horrible. I will not be using their services again. read more

I live in the Willo District and I try to support local businesses, so I purchased a pair of glasses. The place is a re-purposed house which is cool, but I felt a little odd when I entered because the glasses displays are nowhere in-sight. I asked if I could buy glasses there and the receptionist asked me if I had an appointment. I asked if I needed one and she said no, so she opened the door for me and showed me to the back of the house where the glasses were displayed. An employee helped me select frames that were current. I was not confident in my selection, but I went with what she recommended. No one who saw me with the glasses liked them...I called and asked about returning them for a another pair, and to the manager's surprise, my insurance provider allowed me to do that. The manager then helped me find a new pair, but when I wore the new pair to work, I was unable to read my computer screen. The second pair that I bought at Costco did not have that issue, so they were able to compare the prescriptions. The gentleman who helped me was perplexed, but eventually revealed that the woman who placed the order had used the wrong measurements--he also said she was no longer working there.I waited 2 1/2 weeks before calling to ask about my glasses. The receptionist said they were waiting for my second pair of glasses to come in before calling me. We had a back and forth conversation in which I told her I only ordered 1 pair, she insisted I ordered 2. Eventually, she gave in, still insisting I had a second pair, but if I wanted to pick up the first pair I could (!) -- when I arrived, she apologized saying the records were wrong. The glasses are still not right. The Costco pair, which cost 1/3 of the price are much better so I wear those. Because I am tired of the back and forth with that store I'm going to chalk it up to a bad experience and not wear the expensive second pair. Very disappointing.... read more

I was visiting Phoenix when I started experiencing flashes in my left eye. Worried, I called my eye doc in the Bay Area who recommended I see someone immediately. I saw that Optical Expressions was only a short distance from my hotel so I called the office. Carissa answered the phone and was EXTREMELY helpful and sensitive to my concerns. She offered to call my doc office to get the appropriate insurance information and told me I could be seen as soon as I could get there. I was seen by Dr. Chacon who gave me a thorough exam, followed up with an explanation of what I was experiencing and suggested I follow up with my optometrist back home. I was so grateful for such wonderful treatment by professionals whom I'd never even met prior to this event. If I ever find myself living in Phoenix, Optical Expressions is my choice for eye care. read more

Be cautious of Optical Expressions! I had my first eye exam at Optical Expressions nearly 3 years ago. I have never worn glasses before this visit. I was prescribed glasses addressing nearsighted issues. They helped while driving but my reading vision was not helped. When I called I was informed that my eyes would get used to the adjustment since I have never worn glasses before. I went for another appointment 2 years later and was sold glasses for being farsighted. I called the office after wearing the glasses because they were causing a headache. After asking for the doctor, the receptionist informed he was not available but to not worry about it because my eyes will get used to them. Twice? I visited another optometrist, He was amazed that they never offered progressive lenses. He discovered that second glasses I paid for were for computer viewing which did not address any of my concerns. I called and spoke with Ashley to voice my concern. Why was I sold computer glasses? She laughed and let me know that progressive glasses are expensive. Well, I love the progressive glasses I have now. They are worth the money. Please beware of this establishment. read more
