This is a truly wonderful shelter! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and they make sure you have everything you need to start a life with a new buddy. we went to operation kindness twice and ended up adopting a gorgeous, 11-month old schnauzer/chihuahua mix (our baby girl, Phoenix!) from them. This facility is very organized and well taken care of, the people working there and the volunteers connect and take amazing care of the animals (both dogs and cats) and get to know them well. When you are looking for a pet to adopt, you will have an "adoption counselor" (ours was Teri who was fantastic and really helped us out) who goes with you while you interact with your pet and discuss which might work out best for your household, etc... The outdoor area is really huge and has lots of wonderful walking areas that you can take to connect with your pet, and also has some enclosures where the pets are taken out to, and you can watch them interact with other dogs and give you a glimpse of their personality. We're very happy with the service provided at Opertaion Kindness, as well as the facility and everyone working there has been great! Best shelter ever. I got my amazing schnauzer pug mix here and I love him so much. We get his picture with Santa here every year and the staff is always lovely, knowledgable, and caring. Adoption fees are a smudge higher than other places, but the pets are fully vaccinated, fixed, and microchipped- so worth it. read more

I could not have had a more positive experience at operation kindness. The facility is very impressive and you can tell they take good care of the animals here. The vibe is incredibly positive. I came early on a Monday and the dog I wanted unfortunately got adopted when I came back that afternoon with my boyfriend to check her out. Despite our disappointment, Teri showed us several other dogs we were thinking about and gave us detailed information about all of them that was helpful in making our decision. Once we chose Jackson, Teri gave us a wealth of information about him and tons of suggestions since he was still a puppy and needing training as well suggestions for him to get along with my cat. So went in today to like a dog named Zena. We liked the dog but had to go home to retrieve our dog so they can meet and greet. We got there at 5pm. Per Jade, we had to show our rabies vaccination card for our dog. We showed them our vaccinations records. It was 5:30 and I went up front to ask to see the dog because I was worried we would be skipped over. Jade walked us to the back but we see Zena being led to a different are to meet a family that came after us. Jade came back and stated that we did come first and should've had first dibs, but they decided to let the other family adopt Zena. Total lack of customer service and WASTE of my time. read more

Me and my wife went to Operation Kindness in search of our new furry family member after having no luck elsewhere. We frequented their facility as it is always really nice and clean, the animals look healthy, and the staff is always super friendly and helpful. We saw a flyer on their wall that said they had Urkle available for adoption in the intake room, and we had been searching for that puppy for about a week! He fell in Operation Kindness's hands from the Dallas animal shelter and we couldn't believe we found him! The staff was super friendly and helpful in letting us meet him and as soon as he rounded the corner, we were sold! Tara helped us with the paperwork and was super friendly and knowledgeable about anything we had questions about! She gave our little Urkle( Now Sooner) a shirt and jacket that they had available from donations and was super sweet. You can tell the staff really love all of the animals there. The cages are always clean and the staff is always friendly and eager to help you with any of their sweet animals. Really disappointed in the response from the people who answer the intake requests . Why do we bother to fill out a detailed form when you don't read it ? I found a few week old baby stray kitten near the airport runway and you ask us to see if it is chipped and go check the neighborhood as someone probably lost it. If not we should take to city shelter. Last I checked you can't chip a baby that weighs less than a pound and I have never seen homes on an airport runway area before, but hey what are we thinking ? City shelters Kill which is why we reach out to rescues . Sad I have adopted dogs from you all in past and we donate a sizeable amount every year, but that won't be occurring anymore. Apparently you have lost that caring touch for the animals and the people on the street trying to help them. read more

Operation Kindness is kill shelter, they let you get a animal knowing there condition. They tell you that you can return the animal if there are any complications. And when you call to return the pet, they give an excuse that they are full. If you don't believe call them, first you have to fill out an application. Then they do not get back to you. You have to call, and get redirected until you give up. Please get your pet from somewhere else and save yourself some heartache and pain. Give your family a great experience, not one that will affect you. They will tell you whatever you want so adopt a pet. read more

My sweet kitty Quinn passed away a month ago and, after I'd taken some time to absorb the loss, set out to find a cat to fill the empty space left behind. Operation Kindness is absolutely amazing! My boyfriend and i were in 2 weeks ago to start looking for a pup to rescue. We originally fell in love with a little girl. The staff was super helpful and explained that they didn't think she would be a good fit with our other 2 and they introduced us to Spock (since renamed Jax). On their website it says to fill out an application for the dog you're interested in and someone will get back to you to give you a "guest pass" to come out and meet the dogs. They never get back to you. Not even when you call and leave multiple messages. Turns out, this policy is not true at all. You just show up like every other shelter. The ladies I finally talked to on the phone were extremely rude. When I said they should make their adoption process more clear and they might get more interest from the public, she told me they were busy and didn't need anymore interest. You know sometimes silence isn't golden! Operation Kindness is one of a kind. The animals that are there are treated with love, respect, kindness, medicine, cleanliness, food, donations, and the prospect of having a forever home. I have two from there. Petey and Missy! The adoption process is different than most shelters. First, not one dog or cat leaves there without a microchip and being spayed or neutered. No exceptions to this. The surgeries are performed by a Veterinary. Period. The counsellors give each animal and potential adopter the opportunity to see how the match up. If this takes 5 minutes great! If it takes 3 hours and it falls through anyway. That's what it's all about. They want the match to be perfect. No hearts broken because it wasn't a match. Operation Kindness is their to protect the animals. To ensure when they leave they are safe. If they had been safe before they wouldn't be at Operation Kindness. If there isn't a fenced yard and they plan to let the animal outside? Guess where it ends up? Does someone with 5 cats and 6 dogs need another animal? Really? If they live in an apartment what are the apt requirements? They go all over the place. Some no Pitts, no hounds , no cats, etc. it's awful for someone to leave with an animal only to return with it because they don't allow dogs over 10 pounds. Operation Kindness tries to stay current with pet requirements on apts. Dallas. If not they call. ALL DONATIONS OF ALL KINDS SIZES AND ETC. GO TO THE BENEFIT OF THE ANIMALS! Every penny! They have hotdog events at the center on Saturdays sometimes to encourage a bigger turnout for folks like me and you. They depend so much on donations. They keep a running list of things needed on Amazon. You can order and it ships direct to Operation Kindness. Operation Kindness doesn't rip people off. They certainly don't rip the animals off. It is cleaned from inside out twice a day. Floors. Walls, stainless steel dog bowls and water bowls wShed and dried by hand twice a day. All bedding changed daily and more if needed. Accidents happen. Someone is constantly running the huge commercial washing machines and dryers. It's like folding diapers 24/7. Dogs and kittens get bathed. Then dryer. Some get haircuts. Let you guess why! They get better medical attention than some Vets provide. They can and do call specialist when needed. Do they miss something occasionally? Yes. Yet I have a friend in the hospital right now because his doctor missed clogged arteries in his leg. Operation Kindness looks at every animal before it leaves. That's again an Unbroken Rule! Not one resident has to worry about death! It doesn't happen to them here. If they stay forever, then forever it is. They are given the same opportunity we have. To meet their maker when it's time! I love this place. Since learning about them I have became aware of the despair dogs and cats have. Read on line Craiglists at the found dogs no one claims. There is a dog dump site the news is now following where we humans are taking and dumping just born puppies to old dogs and they are homeless with no shelter, food, or water. Just the Grim Reaper smiling and waiting. I know Operation Kindness isn't the Taj Mahal yet I promise you from mr brain and my heart these animals are being save while being offered another chance at a forever home. I have two from there. Go for a walk through visit. Ask questions. Maybe consider volunteering. Maybe volunteer by walking a dog or holding a cat. Or maybe you might donate money. It ALL goes to animals. This review is entirely directed towards the staff and/or select group of volunteers, not for the organization, facility or pets. Bad experience #1: As I arrived and checked in, I proceeded to their outdoor courtyard area where I saw a dog being walked by a volunteer that I was interested in. I approached the dog and was petting it and finally knelt down closer as I'm on the taller side and a separate volunteer walked up and made a condescending remark along the lines of "We don't get close to faces of dogs we don't know" and then walked away. As someone that's been around dogs for 30 years and the owner of two large dogs, I'm confident in my ability to evaluate risk with dogs. I did not appreciate or need to hear such a comment from the woman. I had already observed the dog to be docile and extremely calm and felt completely comfortable getting closer (about 1 foot away), yet not too close where the dog's space was threatened. Bad experience #2: I was directed back to the front desk to ask questions about another dog that was just returned to OK. Upon telling them my home situation, the two front desk agents did not seem satisfied with my decades of pet experience and ownership, and did not positively acknowledge my flexible schedule to be at home with the dog. One of the women alluded to the dog needing someone with it 24/7 because the previous owner stated the dog had anxiety when separated from people. The most ironic part is that OK had assessed the dog to be calm and independent but the agents elected to go off of the assessment from the owner that returned the dog instead of their own observations. Perhaps the owner that first adopted the dog wasn't the right fit based on their own personal schedule? While I completely agree with placing pets in the right homes, the judgment and vetting seem to be a bit ridiculous and totally subjective based on who you speak to at OK. Based on previous reviews about staff/volunteer attitudes, my recommendation would be to be prepared for judgmental commentary and condescending remarks if you do anything other than glance at an animal for more than 2 seconds. I hope all pets they intake get adopted, but I can't help but wonder how many take longer to get adopted because of staff/volunteer rudeness. read more

I heard Operation Kindness is sometimes called the Nieman Marcus of animal shelters! and the facility shows they have a dedicated army of serious donors and volunteers. I adopted two sweet dogs this year. Both adoptions went smoothly. You can go hang out with dogs to get to know them - a volunteer is always with you. Brick exercise paths, woodsy grounds - it was planned and built with a lot of love. They have their act together big time. Both dogs had all their paperwork ship-shape. The younger one had spent more than three weeks in the Operation Kindness hospital with an eye infection and was still on meds, which they provided. They give you a list of vets who give a free first visit for their alums. I went to the Vet House in Richardson, and LOVE them. You are in good hands there. I found the loves of my life. read more

I highly recommend Operation Kindness to anyone in search of a new four-legged family member. My last dog, Buddy, passed away after a brief but terrible illness. After dealing with my feelings of loss, I knew that I wanted to welcome a new dog into my life. I filled out an adoption application online at 8:00 AM on a Saturday. By the time I got to the shelter 3 hours later, it was already printed and ready to go. The adoption coordinator was very helpful and showed me two different dogs that connected with me when I walked past their kennels. One of them jumped up in my lap and chose me. I welcomed Sophie home that afternoon. Sophie did have some special medical needs, but all of them were covered in the adoption fee. So I was able to bring her home, give her food and medicine, and not have to worry about unexpected vet bills. It may be more expensive to adopt here than from a city shelter, but they take excellent care of the dogs they rescue. The dogs eat good-quality food and are treated to walks, play groups, human interaction, and even soothing music and activities put on by the volunteers! And again, you know your new dog has received medical care, so you don't get any nasty surprises at the vet's office! They also give you a coupon for a pet store, a wellness check, a starter bag of food, and everything you need to register the microchip and get pet insurance. It's as close to "turnkey" as a dog adoption can be! Fast forward six months, and I have a friendly, good-natured, intelligent and healthy dog! I am glad to have found my new best friend at Operation Kindness, and highly recommend them. read more

I've had wonderful experiences with Operation Kindness. I had been trolling their website and many others waiting for the right chihuahua to come, and when he became available I called that day and came in that afternoon to meet him. They let me spend as much time with him as I wanted and were very friendly and helpful the entire time. The pup I chose has recently had one of his front legs removed and they explained the entire situation and put me at ease about it. He also had heart worms, as most dogs off the street that haven't been given proper prevention have, and they took care of the very costly heart worm treatment. I was initially and am still to this day impressed with their level of care and compassion. They do a great job promoting their animals on social media and also by letting those of us who can help with Amazon wish list items. I first went to Operation Kindness on Wednesday in hopes of adopting a dog and was feeling a little unsure. The counselor, Cade was so sweet and told me to come back in a few days. Yesterday, I adopted my sweet Greyson from there! Cade really listened to what I was looking for and gave me so many helpful tips as a new dog mom! Very disappointed!  My daughter and I were the third people to see a Labradoodle on Monday who wasn't yet available.  They told me she would show on the site as soon as she was ready to be adopted.  My husband and I have dilligently checked the site since.  Today, I visited in person to get an update.  Now, they say she will be at an event on Saturday?!  Why would you do that?  To the dog .. to all the people who saw her and wanted her?! Why not offer her to the first person who saw her?  (which wasn't me by the way)Or simply adopt her out of the shelter?  Instead you are going to have every person who wants her show up at an event FOR HER, hoping they are the first in line.  Don't you think this could cause a lot of upset people?  It doesn't apply to me because I will be out of town...I just think it's very poor how you handled this situation.  Terrible! read more

We adopted a puppy from Operation Kindness yesterday. We love our new pup and the whole process was amazing. We went to 5 other adoption places and Operation Kindness was the cleanest, had so many volunteers ready to give all the animals love and walks, and the animals were well treated. They had big areas outside for meet & greets too. We couldn't bring our older dog for an official meet & greet so they brought out another adoptable dog to interact with our new dog as a test. They played wonderfully & their interaction solidified our adoption. The paperwork was done quickly and we got a discount for a nearby pet store to stock up on the needed supplies. Our new puppy also has a few medical issues which Operation Kindness is taking care of for us since they were pre existing. Overall, the process could not have been a better experience. read more

My problem with this place is that they don't allow you to put a hold on any animal. I was working with a client at the time and couldn't take the pet right away so I offered to pay his adoption fee beforehand and pick him up later. All other animal shelters will allow you to do this. They seriously REFUSED to keep him overnight for me so I could pick him up first thing in the morning. I think that's an absolutely ridiculous policy and I lost the pet I waited so long to find. I will not recommend this place to anyone and I definitely won't support their business. read more

I was hesitant to use this organization after reading some of their negative reviews, but their website and the communication I had with some of their counselors via email felt promising. I ended up driving down their on a whim during my search for a kitten to add to my family, and I am so glad that I did! They update their animal profiles in real-time, meaning as soon as an animal is adopted, their profile is removed to avoid confusion. The location is huge, and all of the animals were receiving attention and care throughout my entire visit - which was wonderful to see. Their process seemed a tad confusing, but we came at a busy time so the blame isn't necessarily on them for that! I highly recommend filling out the adoption questionnaire before your visit, unless you just want to walk around and see what animals they have in person first. After your questionnaire is completed, you can select up to 3 animals (I'm not sure if it is the same for dogs, but 3 cats was the max) to view/play with. The counselor that worked with me directly was so informative and kind, and he offered a lot of details about the kitten I was meeting that I hadn't even thought to ask for! Once I decided on the kitten I wanted to adopt, they let me take him home. They gave me a few toys to bring a long, in addition to wet and dry food! They gave me all of his vet/health information and a list of vets that they recommend (which was so helpful!!) and just made the entire process a lot easier. They also checked in with me a few days later and were more than happy to answer any lingering questions I had! Overall, I highly recommend checking them out if you're looking to add to your family!! read more

We have adopted three cats from Operation Kindness, and our daughter has even attended a summer camp there that she rates as her favorite camp of all time. The staff is efficient and friendly; the adoption process is seamless. If you want to support a no-kill shelter, there couldn't be a nicer, better shelter to support. UPDATE: We did get a new pup (actually about 3 yrs old) from OK -- a cute wire-haired fox terrier with a great personality. I simply cannot praise Operation Kindness too highly. The facility is very clean; the animals get lots of room and lots of time for walks; and the staff and volunteers obviously love and are knowledgeable about dogs and cats. Every animal has been neutered and had all his shots. They are doing very good work for stray and abandoned animals. People, these pets need you, and they're great. Don't go to a breeder, puppy mill, or pet store. Go to OK! read more

In February 2017 my fiancé and I adopted a dog from Operation Kidness. They told us the dog was in "social" classes, but seemed to interact fine with us and our other dog. We ended up adopting him the same day. However, I really wish we hadn't simply because they knew he had some serious issues, but failed to disclose them. Fast forward to now, we are still struggling to address these issues. We love the dog, but are not equipped at handling these specific issues. I wish they would have warned us so that we would either be more prepared or could let them know that we couldn't handle them. I understand they want their dogs to get adopted, but in the end it is better to disclose issues so that they can find the right home. In the future we will not return to this place to adopt a dog as we find their practice of concealing information highly unethical. Also, just for reference, his issues have nothing to do with social interaction. He gets along fine with people and other dogs. read more

The very best atmosphere and care givers in Dallas. These animals are blessed to be here. I learned that black cats were the last to be adopted of all their animals so I asked to see a few and was shown 3 black brothers, about 6 months old... one other brother had been adopted. I could read the personalities and one stood out as the smartest with the best personality. I renamed him Christo, after the artist and he was the most incredible cat I've ever had. (tragically, he was killed in July and I am still devastated.) I immediately started calling him either by his name or whistling- so Christo always came to a whistle. He would fetch, stay, if I said "stay." He ate only Friskies seafood flavor (crunchy) and then only the juice out of soft food or those 'broths' they sell. He knew words and commands. He would try to open the doorknob with his paw and all of the people (mostly elderly) where I live ADORED him, especially since Christo got along with and played with all other pets here, from cats to very large dogs. Christo was a "King" and ruled this place. He had a sense of humor and would hide in tall grass and wait for a neighbor to walk by, then leap out to startle them It was hilarious! Then he'd go back and wait for the next victim!! ha!! He also would eat by plowing his jaw forward like a bulldozer, then shaking his head to shake out most of the bite, keeping his favorite pieces of food in his mouth if you said "Shake it, don't break it!" He made me laugh every day and it was very healing after having lost my teenaged son a few years ago. I may not find another cat like him but I am ready to try. read more

After looking for months online and at shelters we found Operation Kindness in Carrollton and watched their list of available dogs, We found one with the saddest eyes saying please come get me. After looking at 10 or 12 other dogs we found Tina. A little Jack Russell Terrier Mix. We took her for a walk and asked her to come with us and she did.
