Recently I adopted my second dog from Operation Kindness in Dallas in addition to a lovable cat. The Volunteers, Staff and Medical personal are wonderful, loving people. Their mission is give a forever home to cats and dogs. My adoption counselor, Tara, answered all my questions and introduced me to Dakota. He is a large Shepard mix who now goes by the name Halsey. The Medical Manager, Christy Gray took her time going over Halsey's history and care. Operation Kindness goals is to send health pets home to loving home. We are very thankful to Operation Kindness. We visited the shelter on April 19 expecting only to start our search for a pet. Instead, we left with a new member of our family. We walked first in the park with a cute puppy Boxer that left us exhausted after just 10 minutes. After that we picked a Corgi-Terrier mix and at the end we decided to adopt him. This is a wonderful shelter! I visited a few weeks ago to adopt a puppy. Everyone I spoke with was friendly and helpful, despite the large weekend crowd. The shelter is clean and comfortable and you can really tell how much they care about each animal. I ended up adopting an adorable corgi mix! It was great to see that the puppies had been neutered/spayed, vaccinated (my puppy had only had one round because of his age), and other health issues had been addressed. They offer several low cost services as well. We are starting one of their obedience training programs next week. I've had my puppy for 2 weeks and he is healthy, happy, and quickly adjusting to his new home. I highly recommend operation kindness! read more

Very disappointed! Made an appointment to view the dogs available for adoption, and was told I was not allowed in the area where the dogs are kept. They would only be able to bring out one dog at a time without being able to view with dogs are available. Don't waste your time here until they realize that their Covid protocols are no longer needed. read more

I visited Operation Kindness after my doctor's office recommended them. I had looked at their website and seen the dogs they had and I went in expressing interest in two specific dogs. When I first entered, no one at the front desk greeted me or even looked up. I was extremely confused to where I was supposed to go or do. I approached the desk and it felt like more than a minute until someone finally noticed me. They were extremely unfriendly. They acted like they didn't want to take me back to look at the dogs. I felt very uncomfortable there. It was my first time there and in any shelter and no one was there to show me around. I was very lost. I found the tiny dogs and met a woman working in the back and we started talking about which breed would be best for me. She was extremely helpful. I believe her name was Jessica, but I could be completely wrong since it's been almost a month since I've been there. She was the only person there that made me feel welcome and comfortable. When I finally picked a dog that I wanted to see, the people working with the dogs told me I had to go back to the front desk to tell them which dog I was interested in. I went back to the front, told them which one I was interested in, and they pulled up the dog's record. They explained to me the history of the dog, which was great. However, right after they told me the history of the dog and telling me about the bite history and realized I still wanted to see the dog, they did not want to show me the dog. The dog had a history of biting kids because the kids were taking away the dog's toys. I told the front desk MANY times that I did not have kids in the house and yet they kept telling me the dog had a bite history. Finally, after saying the exact same thing to them, one of the ladies took me back there to see the dog. We took him out for a walk on a trail. It was just a walk. We did not get a chance to stop so I could see how the dog would interact with me, I only was able to see how it interacted with the environment. I did not get to hold the leash the whole time either. The front desk lady was watching my every move and I felt so much pressure. I told them I technically live with my boyfriend since I'm over there all the time, but my permanent residence was in Plano with my family. I told them the dog would be with me at the apartment but may come home with me in the summer of next year. Even though I'm 21, they still told me I had to call my parents for permission to adopt. I was confused. Finally, after much confusion, they told me I wouldn't have to call my parents since I would be living in the apartments. I had to wait until my boyfriend got off of work to come see the dog together. The front desk lady told me that I could come in 25 minutes before closing and she would let us walk the dog again. We came back 25 minutes before closing, and they did not let us see the dog. I was incredibly frustrated with this place. I wanted to like it, but the attitude of the employees and the miscommunication with the people working with the dogs and the front desk was crazy. I went to the Plano Animal Shelter and could not have had a better experience there. read more

It kills me to write this. I absolutely hate to write anything negative about a no kill animal shelter. It goes against every fiber of my being. But a point needs to get across to this group. I've had three separate negative interactions with this establishment. 1. 7 years ago - I found a small dog in the parking lot of my work. Brought here here because it was no-kill. No chip at all. Was told they were full but could put me on a wait list if I could keep her for a few days. No problem, I have a full house at home but I could manage a few days if it meant she would be in a no-kill shelter. When I brought her back for intake, they treated me as if I was the long-term owner surrendering her. Extremely unfriendly and asking for money to support the dog I was surrendering. (which I don't mind making a donation at all, but the wording of the request was quite abrasive). 2. 5 years ago - I went there to get a cat. About 1/3 of the cats where in community rooms but in kennels. I inquired about a few that where in kennels and was told they where up for adoption but unfriendly. - no offer to interact with them at all... soooo.... how are you going to get them adopted out??? 3. 1 year ago - I went there to adopt a dog. Incredibly uncomfortable experience. I have never felt so under a microscope with every little interaction being "corrected". - don't get on their level. have 6 arms through the leash at all times, don't get them excited... I have 39 years of experience as a responsible dog owner... it was ridiculous. I really wanted to adopt this dog we where looking at but my husband lost patience after 10 minutes and walked out. I followed. We went to DAS and quickly adopted 2 beautiful pit bulls who have been spoiled rotten ever since. My advice to OK - you really need to revise the way you interact with your potential adopters, they are there to help you achieve your goal of getting animals off the streets and into loving homes so treat them accordingly. read more

I visited recently expecting to leave empty handed. Upon entering the lobby I was immediately greeted by the staff. Tara then introduced herself and discussed what I was looking for, my living situation and plans to care for the animal. I was immediately impressed by how thorough the she was. Tara demonstrated a sincere desire to find not just a home, but the right home for the right pet with a family who would love it properly. Within a couple minutes we were looking at the available dogs when a cute little brown and white puppy got my attention. Jesse and I met and within moments he informed me that he would be coming home with me and that we would be family for the rest of his life. He's amazing, we're inseparable and we can both look forward to many years of love and companionship together, thanks to Tara and the team at Operation Kindness. We had a great experience at OK; we were greeted and assisted as soon as we stepped in this past [busy!] Sunday afternoon. As soon as we picked a couple specific pups to meet, we filled out an application. May helped us through the rest of the process without ever rushing us even though we were nearing the end of their day. We met Doug first, a black chihuahua-boxer mix, after seeing him play outside with Dougley - Instantly in love! Then, we met a couple of brindle hound-mix puppies, but we decided to adopt Doug. May checked us out and provided a folder full of great information for us and Doug, as well as a 25% off coupon at pet supplies plus and a 5lb bag of quality dog food. Doug had a history of being returned to OK a couple times in the past few months, but with us, I think he's here to stay! OK is a great, no-kill adoption center that houses all kinds of breeds. We learned that Girl Scouts donate their time to read to the animals sometimes, too. Volunteers and helping hands are all over the place, which is great. Their house food is great quality and Texas made, so we're now considering switching our own pup to Muenster! read more

Pros: They have some adorable dogs and cats here and it's constantly busy so if you go in to look for a new fur baby and you fall in love with one, I would recommend you adopt right then. We came back the very next day to test how our current dog would do with the new pup and the new pup was already adopted out. Cons: If you're looking to get a fur baby without having to go through an intense application process, go here. In my opinion, you should have to go through a process to make sure that you and your new fur baby are a good match so that the dog/cat gets the home it deserves. Though, I understand that it is hard to adopt out so many pets, I felt like they were giving them to anyone who wanted one. Tip: Conduct a lot of research before going to a shelter because you are probably going to fall in love with an animal while you're there. Just make sure you are ready for the responsibilities and that you've done research on the age/breed you are looking for. read more

I volunteered here before with a group and it was a wonderful experience. This shelter is clean, has a wonderfully big backyard where you can take the dogs on a walk in a gated area, has friendly volunteers and staff. Their website is PARTICULARLY well-kept and updated- love that! I ended up adopting my dog from another shelter in the area, but only because of the special connection with that animal- anyone who's adopted a dog knows how that is! ;) While I was volunteering though, I almost took the dive and adopted one of a sweet 2 year old Lhasa Apso before then... but I can't speak for how smooth the process of adoption is. read more

I picked up a puppy last week. I had a great experience. The area was clean and the dogs looked well taken care of. They gave me a bag of dog food and a toy along with good instructions on how to look into training and feeding schedule. Also told us to come in with any medical concerns as the puppy just got fixed. Used to be a friendly and loving experience The ladies there are fairly hostile. This really shocks me because I adopted from that facility 15 years ago and it was a warm and fulfilling experience. On this visit (afternoon of 2/27/17) I arrived with a soft happiness that I might soon have a little "new child" for my family. However the ladies up front all snapped at me (except the extra friendly one with a German accent). I was so dejected by the treatment that I lost enthusiasm to make an adoption to give a little animal a deeply loving home, and I left and won't return. (BTW, no permanent trauma. I love animals, very much, so I'll adopt one from another source. How sad for the animals at Operation Kindness though. They lose when some of the staff is rude and disheartening to customers.) BTW, there was a lot of activity. With a flurry of dogs and cats and adults and children in the lobby area, maybe the 6 or so "receptionists" were overwhelmed and stressed. Maybe something awful had happened earlier, out of their control, and they were having a bad day. Maybe they receive the benefit of the doubt. However see what happens? Unhappy staff, unhappy customers. Not cool for the innocent furry little animals. (EDIT: I've just read all the reviews from 2016. Look at the common thread: dissatisfaction with the staff. Dear Owners or administrators of O.K.: you seem to have a systemic issue here.) read more

Alright where do I begin. My boyfriend and I adopted our sweet kitten Maple November 20th. We loved her, this shelter was highly recommended and the first on my list to look at. The adoption process was quick and easy. It wasn't till we got home we noticed Maple had these strange bald spots at the base of her ears along with many scabs. She passed her adoption exam so we figured she's okay. Now let's fast forward to November 27. After days of scratching we brought her back to the shelter to be checked again. Less then three minutes later they come out to tell us the spots are highly positive ringworm spots. It can't be proven, since we signed the form saying they can't guarantee the health of each animal. So we were willingly to look past it. So the vet tech told us our options take her to our vet or they would keep her in their care and treat her for free. We needed to clean our apartment so we felt we'd be safe leaving her in their care. It didn't feel right but neither did taking her back to our contaminated apartment. We signed the paper giving them permission to do Maples treatments. We left devastated not knowing when we'd see Maple again. Nobody explained much of anything to us. Just that they'd take care of her. I could write a novel to tell you all of the issues we had with the medical department's customer service. But they did apologize for that at least so we'll skip that. Let's fast forward to last week. December 28th after dealing with a month of dealing with poor service in the medical department. We simply ask if we could continue Maples treatments at home. The medical manger approves it and we go pick her up. A tech brings Maple down and asks if we'd like to have the medication she's been given. We planned on taking her to get a second opinion with our vet. But we figured why not and said yes. So they give us the oral medicine she's on and send us on our way. We immediately go to the appointment with our vet to get a 2nd opinion. They say first off don't give her the oral medication she's already had it for 28 days. It should only be given for 21 or it will lead to toxicity.... I don't have much to say about this. But wow I'm upset we didn't go with our gut instinct and pull her sooner. Her ringworm was at a manageable level that all she needed was medicated shampoo. They also discovered she has tape worm now. I'm at a loss for words, I'm just glad our kitten is safe. I wrote a formal email and they called my boyfriend and apologized for the poor customer service. He said they seemed genuinely apologetic. So we accept that. They conveniently didn't say anything about the over medicating or the possibility of her getting tapeworm while in their care. They offered to do Maples rabies vaccine for free something they said they'd do when we signed the papers for her to be readmitted. Along with her recheck for ringworm. We decided not to go, it didn't seem fair to Maple to leave her alone for another exam with the vet who almost over medicated her. As far as Maple goes, there's no regrets in adopting her. As of yesterday she is now negative for ringworm thanks to our vet and the shampoo. The tapeworm treatment is working and Maple is thriving and happy to be back in her forever home. read more

I want to say a HUGE thank you to Tara Helms. She was AMAZING, she really encouraged us to keep our cat as we were signing the paper work with her. She was so friendly and so funny. I couldn't believe how awesome she was. One of the best people I've ever encountered at a shelter. Tara really helped us by feeling comfortable with our decision after we were discouraged by the older woman that is in charge of the cat room, who tried to convince us not to get our cat (who wasn't familiar with dogs until he met our Hazel). I know it was at her best interest to make sure the cat was going into a good environment. However, Tara was familiar with the cat and couldn't express how much of a "lover" he was. That they would get along in no time. Her advice was extremely helpful and helped us get these two animals to really love each other. Four months later they are now closer than we ever anticipated! I cannot say enough how easy and smooth Operation Kindness made our adopting process. My girlfriend and I spent weeks trying to adopt from sources we found online and through adoption events and had no luck. After feeling like we were doomed on getting our first puppy, a few friends suggested going to Operation Kindness. We showed up and immediately fell in love with an Australian shepherd pup. We filled out some paperwork on a Wednesday, the pup got surgery on Thursday and we picked her up on Friday. They even gave us a list of vets in the area, and provided us with treats and about a solid months worth of pet food. It was so easy and we couldn't be happier with our first pup! BEWARE! DO NOT GO AND TRY TO ADOPT FROM THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU ENJOY BEING MISLEAD, LIED TO, MISINFORMED, DISRESPECTED AND PATRONIZED. They put a kitty on their website as available to adopt. I called TWO TIMES , spoke to TWO different employees, each one of them telling me the kitty would be avail to adopt from a partner pet store once they moved her and other kitties.. Was told I'd get a call as soon as they knew which location. Got a call back a short time later from same employee I'd just spoken to. Was told the kitty wasn't being moved after all because of her behavior as "skittish" , but she was still avail to adopt that day from their facility. I repeated and verified over the phone again, if I was to come in and decided to adopt her , I could. For a THIRD time , I was told Yes! "We'd love to have you come in!" I jumped in car, rushed to get there with my 20 min drive , since this type/color of kitten adopts out quickly, Arrived, went inside, wasn't greeted, approached an employee standing at the copier, and asked for employee I'd last spoken to who told me that I could adopt the kitty if I came in. I follow her to the kitty's enclosure. I spot her right away because of her beautiful coat and markings. The employee reaches in her cage to bring her out for me to see as promised. Now we get to the good part of story. The kitty appears scared and hisses. THATS IT!! That's all it takes and within a matter of seconds the lady closes her cage , tells me she's unable to get the kitty out, and she recommends it goes to behavior fixing fostering for two weeks, at the minimum!!! WAIT , WHAT?! I'm pretty much speechless at this point and say but you told me she's avail to adopt TODAY, like NOW. (Side note: they were aware of her "behavior" before I got there) The lady then says, like three times "She (the kitty) is available....but needs the behavior blah blah blah at a foster home. Sooooo, how exactly do I adopt her now since you keep telling me she's available now....but you won't retrieve her from her cage and she's going away for two or more weeks??!! Answer: I don't get to and that's that. No apologies, no empathy towards me for being outright mislead and for them getting my hopes up only to crush them. Then they bring in their Behavior specialist to advise me all about scared kitties ( I've owned and raised and rescued felines my whole life!!) and to let me know herself and the staff is completely fine telling someone a kitty is avail then within 30 min the kittys now not available once you arrive in person. At that point , I had to walk out. Never will return there. Sad since I'd adopted two other kittens from them 2 yrs ago and a year ago with none of this complete frustration for me and bad business on their part. I shed a few tears not being able to leave with the kitty I was promised and had really wanted to provide a safe home for...but then I drove straight to a local shelter, picked out a great kitty from the kindest people, paid adoption fees, all within 30 min. No games No gimmicks No bait-and-switch. You lose Operation not-so-Kindness. read more

So I work for a company that I was able to donate my time to help out. I really enjoyed be able to do this. These wonderful pets get lots of care. There are a lot of pets out there that are sick and they get the proper care they need. The only complaint I have is that that they need someone to organize for when they have volunteers. We were at a lost of what we were supposed to do to help out. We kind of jumped in wherever we thought we were needed. I would love to come bring my daughter back with me. I know the is a small cost to do this but it is worth it to be able to help these poor dogs and cats out. I hope to able to go back again to donate my time. Be very cautious when adopting from this center. I adopted my dog from them and 2 days later he looked as if he was dying. His vet informed me that Operation Kindess has an ONGOING issue with Kennel Cough/ Upper Respiratory Infections. I took him back to them since they supposedly cover their medical issues FREE of charge up onto the first 2 weeks of their adoption. An employee informed me to leave his medication I PAID for from his vet with them and they will give it back to me once the vet examined him trusting them, I did so. Two weeks later I go to pick him up and notice that one of his medications are missing. I called Operations Kindess and they informed me that his medicine was there and that I could come pick it up. Once I got there they claimed to have thrown a perfectly brand new bottle of medicine away. An employee finally notified me what was going on and told me to email my vet receipt to them. I emailed them and had not heard a word for over 2 weeks. I followed up with them only for this so called manager to tell me that I can't be reimbursed for the medication that I paid for. This was a horrible, unorganized, unprofessional experience for my first adoption and I really wish I spent my hard earned money with a more caring organization. read more

This shelter was the first that I've seen volunteers EVERYWHERE. I love that there were so much staff on deck to help potential adopters. We live in KCMO and was interested in their dog we found through a FB rescue page. I filled out the paperwork online (which was pretty straightforward and not too lengthy or too short) and emailed them. They got back to me in a reasonable time and once I linked up with a coordinator (Miss Karen Reese), I was able to ask all the questions I had and she even offered to FT. We've never done this process via correspondence and I think this was the exception for them as well, but I must say she was very thorough and answered any questions we had. We felt we were in great hands. We drove to Carrollton, TX to pick him up and really liked the facility from the parts we saw. I noticed they were playing classical music for the dogs in the kennel ( loved that). I absolutely loved their walking path. It was reminiscent of a meandering path nicely shaded in a wooded park. I could tell the staff LOVED our dog and he was a bit of their mascot (he was in and out of there for 8 months ). We spoke to A LOT of the staff including Ms. Sandra Laird the Projects Director. She gave us some more insight into our boy's background (misunderstood poor pup). I'm in no way a person that treats their dogs like humans (that's EXTREMELY unhealthy for both dog and human), but I'm a firm believer of proper stewardship of your animals. Part of that is to know your breeds and to do research, it was clear that the previous 2 were way over their heads. We also spoke to our boy's handler (I think it was Shaun? He was the gentleman with that righteous Afro). We could tell he was so invested into our boy and did a magnificent job in giving positive vibes and some kind of stability and normalcy to our boy in a shelter environment. Thank you so much for all your heart, sweat and even tears! I know I said this to you then but you REALLY need to be certified as a trainer/behavior specialist because you got it brotha. Our adoption was so no-nonsense we LOVED it. It was clear they wanted our boy to get a great home and they did just that! They asked all the right questions but it didn't prevent them from sending him to a new home (even though it was 8 hrs away). I love you guys and your commitment to your animals. Operation Kindness deserves more than 5 stars for the outstanding work they do. I have adopted animals from here and volunteered as a foster mom for a decade. The kitty habitat is amazing. I think my kitty cats have it pretty good, but even they are jealous of the set up at Operation Kindness. The porch area is a cat's dream. It is my wish for all of these kitties to find a home, but it is good to know they are comfortable for the duration of their stay at OK. Which brings me to my next tangent. If you have room in your home, please consider fostering an animal. Some of these cats and dogs are 'lifers.' They have been there so long, they may have adjustment issues when they are adopted. It helps so much to have people bring these adult animals, who may have been in the shelter for years, into their homes to learn to relax around people. If you are adopting an animal, please consider some of the adult and senior animals for adoption. It is awesome because you really know what you are getting because the animal's personality is already set. Some of these adult and senior animals have such heartbreaking stories. They really do deserve another chance in a forever home. Enough preaching. This place is wonderful if you are in the market for a pet. read more

This organization is honestly so amazing. They take such good care of their doggies. I've gotten two dogs from them and am hoping to get a third. Both dogs we've had so far have been obedient, gentle, and healthy. I'm so glad this organization exists! It lead me to my best doggie friend. Our dog, T-bone, arrived at Op Kindness with a big cut on his back. He received full medical care and treatment. He now only has a scar on his back but it doesn't bother him at all!! All in all, this place is very attentive to all the animals needs and will do everything they can to get them to good homes. Mixed feelings about this place. No-kill shelter, that's great. Bunch of volunteers there and they do seem to genuinely care for their animals. But good grief, adopting a kitten was an absolute pain. The forms to fill out and 'contract' they want you to sign is just ridiculous. The process is much akin to buying a car. Do some browsing, then after you pick one, you get shuffled into a room where they discuss terms, conditions, etc.. And they push the pet insurance. really? Is that the equivalent of the 'rust protection'? While you start signing your life away for a cat, they take the animal to their in-house vet and do a 'make ready' inspection. Not sure what that entails, but they missed some stuff. For one, his second round of shots were due less than a week later... will they cover those? nope. Second, he was scratching his ears a lot, so I had to take him to the vet, turns out he had an ear mite infestation and subsequent infection which set me back another $150. Their vet did an exam before they let me take the kitten. I dunno, maybe check their ears next time? Am I saying don't use them? No. But definitely use with caution. Take advantage that they have a vet in-house. And work to include their second round of shots in the package, lord knows you will be paying them enough for it. The local shelter is much cheaper and much easier. Next time, I will just go there. read more

My fiance and I visited Operation Kindness to find a new furry friend for ourselves and our 1 year old Boston Terrier. We lost our older husky mix earlier this year and felt it was time to get another large dog. I had never been to a shelter before, so I was expecting the worst. However, Operation Kindness was a really pleasant surprise. The staff were well-organized, and the process was simple. After a quick survey about what we were looking for and our expectations in a pet, we perused the 3 dog rooms. We already had the names of the dogs we wanted to meet, though, since their website is updated in real-time and complete with pictures and detailed descriptions. I love they also give detailed histories with most dogs, including what they like and don't like. The facility was also very clean, and the cages were really spacious. I loved the fact that they let you take the dog for a walk around the campus, which had a nice trail and mini dog park. The next day we brought our Boston Terrier to meet the husky we loved, and it was apparent the staff were well-trained. A few days later, we picked up the husky permanently and we've been in love ever since! I highly recommend Operation Kindness! The staff also made it very clear that if the dog does not work out at home, he always has a home at Operation Kindness (meaning you can bring it back). Though you don't get a refund in that case, you are allowed to "trade" for another dog. That was comforting. On the hunt for the perfect dog to join our family of one very cat-like dog and one very dog-like cat, I visited many shelters. I ended up driving further and further away from Grapevine until I ended up here. I really appreciate the kind people in this world who provide no kill shelters, so it was great when I found an awesome little dog hanging out in the small dog area. I got to hang out with him outside in their gorgeous grounds and get to know him better. The best part was that they were completely willing to let me go home and get my dog so the two could meet on neutral ground. I've never adopted an animal without introducing it to the other animals and making sure no death or disaster would occur. They let me bring my dog and, with the assistance of a volunteer, walked both dogs around their lovely walking trail. They were also kind enough to have the new dog hang out with some cats in the shelter just to prove he wasn't a cat hating attack monster. I really, really, REALLY appreciated that they took the time to help make sure this doggy would work in my house before I made any commitment. I adopted my dear cat from Operation Kindness last August. There were several things that impressed me about the experience. The first was how much compassion they had for a very stressed-out kitty. I had two long phone conversations about her before going to Carrollton. The first person I talked with said right away that she was having a difficult time at the shelter. They had her kennel at the ground floor to minimize stimulation. When I went to meet her, they brought a chair for me to sit next to her kennel so that she wouldn't have to be moved. Everyone was kind to me, but I will always remember how especially kind they were to the cat. They were so helpful with phone and then in-person information that I took a carrier, knowing that I would adopt her. I was impressed also with the cleanliness and arrangement of the facility. The whole experience left me feeling like I had been to a really great combination shelter/rescue group. read more

5 stars because I found my best friend through operation kindness. Adopted a sweet little puppy right after Christmas. She was microchipped, spayed, and came with 50$ worth of dog food. The process was quick and they provided me with all of her health records and a ton of useful information. Would definitely recommend if you are looking into adoption! read more

Although I eventually adopted a dog from another shelter organization, I recommend Operation Kindness if you are in search of a new best friend. It is difficult to not support an organization that does so much for pets in need and for the community. Beware of this organization. They lie about dog vaccines and when they are questioned about it they hang up on you. A friend adopted a puppy from there today and brought her over. I asked to see her records and noticed several inconsistencies. The paperwork was highlighted to show that a little 8 week old puppy had received 3 vaccines already. First vaccine 2/3/03 second given on 2/10/2023 and third on 2/17/2023. This is not possible since they only recieved the puppy on 2/10 and that suppoesed vaccine schedule offers that poor puppy zero protection. If anything, they have overvaccinated the puppy and she runs the risk of becoming very sick. When I called, the staff said that it doesn't matter what the paperwork says because the puppy will still need more vaccines. I asked her why they would put vaccines on her paperwork that were clearly not given and why they would administer vaccines when they were not due to make it appear that the dog had recieved 3 rounds of vaccines. The staff member became irate and then hung up on me. This organization is shady and you should absolutely NOT TRUST any paperwork you are given. read more

I'm writing this review to correct some misinformation in "P Z."'s 2012 review and in some other reviews. Claims that Operation Kindness won't take an animal back after it has been adopted are false. In fact, just the opposite is true. Operation Kindness's adoption contract REQUIRES you to bring an animal back if you are not going to keep it. The shelter has taken back animals anywhere from minutes to years after adoption. It will ALWAYS take an animal back if you can't or won't keep it. I should know. Although I'm not an Operation Kindness employee, I'm former President of its Board of Directors and a 9-year volunteer. Another reviewer said it better than I ever could. If I were a homeless dog or cat, Operation Kindness is where I'd want to be until I found a permanent home with a family. read more

We had a great experience! It was our first time adopting a pet on our own so it was great to have someone walk us through the process. Our kitty came fixed with a chip in her all we had to do was pay $30 and she's in a database for life! Pretty cool. She had the typical things when you get a kitten from a shelter. Some ear bugs and a sneeze, they give you a list of vets to take them to and you get a free first visit. They also give you a coupon to a local pet store! Tip: you can help them out by purchasing items on Amazon so we order all our cats food online! read more

I went here hoping to get an adorable poodle I saw online. I was so excited that I got there right when the facility opened on Saturday morning. Sadly, I walked in the door 2 minutes after it opened and another lady had already wanted to see the dog and had decided to adopt her. It took me 30 minutes to figure out she was already adopted. This was no fault of the volunteers. This place is just really busy! Of course, this is great, since so many animals were adopted to great homes that day. But, if you really want a certain dog, you definitely need to go during the weekdays or right when the facility opens on the weekend. In any case, I was encouraged to look around for other dogs. There is a wide variety of dogs types -- including pure breds, which I was very surprised about. I saw at least 10-15 dogs under 20lbs. You should definitely check the online catalog for dogs, since, not all of them are out to see in their cages. I didn't check out the big dog building, but, I did see a beautiful great dane. The smell is a little overwhelming, but, the dogs were pretty comfortable in clean kennels with constant a.c. End of the story: walked out with a well-behaved and mild-mannered cockapoo. He was a little matted and dirty from his journey from kennel to kennel, but, it's nothing that a little TLC and love cannot fix. This is a great no kill animal shelter. They do the best with the resources they have avalible. We adopted a kitty from them in December and she is definitely part of the family.
