I really don't understand these negative reviews. This is the best shelter I've ever been to. After reading the negative reviews it sounds like maybe their protocol wasn't communicated or maybe understood effectively. This shelter houses their animals in the most humane way I've ever seen. They also were incredibly informative about each dog I inquired about to ensure I found the best match possible. I spent about an hour waking through, asking questions, playing with the ones I was looking at in their awesome outside play pins to find the one I was looking for. I couldn't be happier with my new fur baby and this shelter and their employees for making sure I had all of the info possible to make the best choice! Myself and this little girl were so happy to have found each other! They even made sure she had toys a harness and leash to go home with! Thank you PAS! Y'all were amazing! I appreciate what y'all do and how y'all do it! Keep it up! All of you are doing an amazing job!

    Spoiled blue heeler

Plano Animal Shelter would rather see good, young, healthy dogs euthanized and dead by their own hand than adopted out to loving homes. Today I drove 15 miles one way to check out two blue heelers. When I got there and saw them I decided to ask for a 1 on 1. Upon asking, I was told I would have to prove experience with the breed. No problem, I have one already, and have specialized in training border collies and blue heelers for half of my life (15+ years). I showed her the paperwork with my dogs name and breed, which was not good enough for her because it had my husbands name on it. No problem, I'll run down to the vet and have them change it... Next she asked where we lived and I stated we own a condo. The woman at the desk magically morphed into a real estate agent and knew more about my living situation than I do! She aggressively stated "absolutely no heelers if you have shared walls!". Obviously a gated community, a loving home, and my current blue heeler would be ANIMAL ABUSE because walls are very, very, very bad.

1st at home on his new bed which he ended up never using because he likes my bed more lol

I adopted a love bug from them. Technically, it's a pitbull terrier but a love bug is a good description of him. The folks up at the shelter were really helpful and patient with me during the adoption process. Blue came down with a respiratory infection and was in isolation for 12 days or so. Then I adopted him but he had to stay until he was neutered which was like six days. During that whole time, I visited Blue everyday and the people there were kind enough and patient enough to put up with me visiting Blue. It's such a sad sight to see so many animals there. If you're looking for a pet, give them a look see. Maybe you'll find a great companion that turns into a love bug like mine.

I participated in a volunteer community service event at the animal shelter. I really wasn't sure what to expect behind the scenes of an animal shelter, but I was very pleased by what I saw. The employees really have a genuine love and interest for the animals. They take their jobs seriously and are aware that their actions have lives in their hands. Nothing I did as a volunteer involved hands on with animals but I was still proud that my work made a difference. The facility is really clean. We sorted toys, sanitized empty cages, laundered sleep mats, picked poop from the visitation field, and cleaned the viewing windows. Our guide was sure to make ensure we followed rules to not hurt ourselves or the animals. The best part is none of the animals are ever euthanized. They can stay has long as it takes for someone to adopt them.

I adopted a dog that was so sick, she could barely walk. They had her for weeks and let her suffer

Furry Friends Animal Rescue - Here's the kitten that we adopted elsewhere after Furry Friends DECLINED OUR APPLICATION!

    Furry Friends Animal Rescue

I highly recommend avoiding Furry Friends Animal Rescue, as many others have mentioned in their…read morereviews. Their cats are showcased at the Petsmart locations in McKinney, specifically at 121/Custer and 380/75. Our experience with them was extremely frustrating from the start. The person we initially sent our adoption application to completely ignored us. After some time, we managed to reach another staff member over the phone, who informed us that the person handling applications tends to just not respond if they don't like something in the application. After a lengthy conversation, we agreed to meet the next day (Friday) to adopt two baby kittens. I took time off from work, using 48 hours of vacation, so we could spend the weekend helping the kittens adjust to their new home while we were off work. However, on Friday morning, we received emails and texts saying that while we could meet the kittens, we couldn't take them home. This was because it was Petsmart's adoption weekend, and they were concerned that they would lose the Petsmart location if they didn't have cats to show. To clarify, they wanted to present two kittens that had already been adopted, purely for appearance's sake. Despite this, we still decided to meet with the representative that afternoon at Petsmart to see the kittens. We immediately fell in love with them, but when we started asking about the adoption process, things got complicated. I asked if their priority was to ensure the animals had a home or if it was more about appearances--since the goal should be finding a home for these animals. The response was just, "I know." When I asked if they were okay with keeping the kittens caged up for three more days, in a dark, empty store, just to maintain appearances, and if they realized they were misleading potential adopters by showing kittens that had already been adopted, the only answer was again, "I know." We were then told to email the foster mom directly, explaining my occupation and mentioning that I had taken off 48 hours of work. The associate we were with told us she was trying to contact the foster mom while we were there but that there was no reply. We spent about 45 minutes in the facility, during which we were crammed into a tiny space smaller than a closet with three cats. My daughter absolutely loved them. But when we asked about the next steps, we were told we weren't a good match because they thought my 4-year-old daughter was moving the cat wand too quickly. To clarify, our daughter has grown up with animals and has had cats before. Yes, she was excited, but that's because the cats were finally getting to move around after being cooped up in a cage. Our home is much larger than the small space we were shown in, and we always supervise her with pets. In fact, she's not allowed downstairs without an adult because we have a safety gate. At the end of the day, it became clear that optics were the priority for them. It felt like the foster parent wanted to keep the kittens all along, which is why they ignored our application and why the kittens were only at Petsmart for the adoption weekend's appearance. Don't waste your time with a rescue that claims to be advocates for animals when their actions clearly show otherwise.

We are a loving famiy with adequate financial resources and our application was denied because "we don't own another pet" The whole point of adopting is to own a first pet!!!! I had the ability to raise a sizable amount of charitable contributions for this nonprofit if we had gotten our kitty from here. Lisa blew the opportunity.

When Felix arrived, Oliver became very aggressive, and despite our attempts at doing a "slow" introduction we were not having success. So decided to bring in an expert! Lana came to our home and observed everything. While she was there, she gave us many practical suggestions on how to make our house more conducive to the needs of our new babies, the best way to play with them and many more valuable insights. These two boys are both very high energy cats and even though both have been fixed, display lots of aggressive behavior. It took 5 weeks before we felt comfortable with them being together unrestrained in the same room, and throughout it all, Lana was available with lots of suggestions and support. They now play together and while they chase and fight occasionally, it's the type of fun playing we expect from kittens! As you can see from one of the photos, they even eat out of the same bowl at the same time! There were so many positive recommendations Lana gave us, it's hard to narrow down what was most effective! But right at the top of the list is the use of treats to reinforce good behavior, and investing in a tall cat "playpen". The playpen made it possible for them to be very close together, seeing each other, smelling each other, and even interacting through the bars for a couple of weeks prior to letting them be together without barriers. This really made a big difference. Thank you Lana - they might have eventually gotten along, but we saved ourself from taking either one to an emergency clinic, and now they actually enjoy being together, rather than just tolerating each other.
