We recently lost our beloved ChaCha. As I spent the next few days packing up her crate, blankets, sweaters, toys, shampoo, brushes, collars, leashes, food, and treats .. I thought what a waste to throw all of this away. We've passed this shelter many times on our way to Kroger. I always wondered about it. I looked up their location, read their reviews and instructions about donations. In general they have a fantastic reputation and they encourage donations anytime during business hours. My daughter & I packed up three large bags and dropped by. We were greeted by two nice people who expressed their gratitude for dropping off these items. They said it's really needed and they were so glad we thought of them. Our pain is still so over whelming that we were not good company. We sobbed the whole time. They invited us to walk around and visit the pets. They offered to let us hold them and take them out to the play area. Amazing! We stayed and visited. There was a sweet giennie pig, bunny and approximately a dozen dogs, no cats .. It was humbling to see these beautiful animals. This facility is organized, very clean, the animals are well taken care of and the people are passionate. If you're looking to adopt or donate. I highly recommend this shelter. read more

I got my beloved cat from here! When we came in to adopt everyone there was friendly and helpful. The adoption process made it obvious how much care they have for the animals here. They had us do a one on one with the cat and sent us home with a free carrier, blanket, bed, a few bags of treats, AND a container of food! We also got to see the shelter cat taking his lunch break - so cute. My number one place to donate food, treats, and toys. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would, these people do not care about animals. I pulled a kitten out of a family members vehicle and took him to the vet because they weren't open. We could not keep the kitten due to having too many other animals at the moment. When we arrived the door was locked and someone had to open and peek their face out-didn't allow us to come in at all-it's humid and raining outside. She told me and my mother that because I pulled the kitten out of the car in borderline Allen-Plano I have to drive 30 min to the Plano animal shelter. This cat had been through so much and I just feel like everywhere we went no one wanted to even care or help us. This cat had been trapped in a vehicle for days!! I'm literally covered in car sut from pulling the kitten out and she cared more about a borderline when my mother and the family member all live and pay taxes in Allen, Texas!!! read more

I contacted Allen Animal Control today concerning a dead armadillo in the creek behind our home. Our property drops down 7-8 feet to the creek bed and then another 4-5 feet to the actual waterline. Within FIVE minutes, yes FIVE minutes, of terminating my call, Maria appeared behind our neighbor's property on the pathway along the creek. I called to her and pointed to the dead animal. Maria subsequently climbed down the vertical wall of the creek bed, straddled the width of the shallow creek and bagged the animal. She did all of this quickly, safely and professionally. She did all of this while she and I had a very pleasant conversation. Before I called Allen Animal Control to see if they were the correct agency, I had read some disturbing reviews and wondered if I would also have a negative experience. When I had to have my little dog put down, I was heartbroken. I went on the Allen shelter website and found the PERFECT puppy!! I adopted Steve and found the friend I needed!! Called about dead animal removal because of a dead cat on the side of a residential road. His website showed that he provides these services. He interrupts me and tells me that he has to change it on his website. He proceeds to tell me that I need to call Maricopa Animal Control since "that's their job." I told him I looked it up and it shows that they in fact DO NOT provide those services, and say to contact your city to ask about removal. He interrupts me repeatedly telling me that I did not look it up right and that I was wrong. I told him I looked it up exactly like that, etc. He was extremely rude and unprofessional. I can see why he has such a low rating on Google as well. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I know a woman who had to surrender her dog. He is an apartment dog, so doesn't have any outside time or socialization. He does well with people & a chihuahua, but barks at the door when people knock. The owner said to the shelter he might be aggressive. They said they were going to put him down immediately. When I inquired about the procedures and policies, they refused to tell me. Sounds like they aren't even going to do a behavior test on him. I have never heard of this process at any other kill shelter. It is insane to me. Why not explain your process? I don't need specifics on this dog necessarily, I can ask the owners. Although, the shelter wouldn't call them to offer him back if the determination would be to kill him nor will they give the owner any further information because he is now property of the city. Very pleased with Allen Animal Shelter. I went for checking my lost kitty and they promptly created a file with pictures I sent with all the helpful information about the cat. The management here hate animals. That's the bottom line. They aren't too fond of the tax paying human beings in this city either. If you have to take an animal there they will tell you they can find it a new home on the phone. Then when you show up with your toddler in tow you'll be curtly informed that the animal will definitely be executed and that no one adopts animals from the shelter thus there are "many animals that have been back there for over a year" I have no idea whether or not that's even true but if it is true it's a 100% reflection of the horrible and mean woman who is apparently the supervisor of the place. We had a situation dealing with a neighbor and her 2 intimidating dogs which she let roam the neighborhood or her dogs would try and damage the fence to get in our yard. The issues went on for 4 years and I wish the previous supervisor was as receptive and proactive as the current one. The staff has always been pleasant to work with but they also see that we are engaged and responsible with our pets. I'm sure they have seen their share of frustrating situations and then some. When we visited the shelter, all the dogs and cats were well taken care of and the facility was very clean. Thank you for your service. I'm sure it's heartbreaking and gut wrenching many times over. I've had a lot of contractors in and out at my new (to me) house because it was a rental and a lot of things were neglected. The tree guy left the gate open and my dog got out. City of Allen called me and basically held her randsom for $30. Apparently each offense the fee gets higher. Really? What a scam. Not even a freebie for a 1st (and hopefully only) offense. After our boxer of 10 years passed away, we waited a couple months and had decided to adopt another one from a shelter. We figured that would help teach our 9 yr old son about compassion and we let him choose the dog he wanted since he was still completely heart broken about losing his best friend. We searched for weeks and finally came across a 1 1/2 yr old boxer at the Allen animal shelter. Seeing as we lived 3 hours away, it was going to have to be on a Saturday before we could make it up to visit him. I called and spoke to a couple different workers and explained our story and that I be in touch and if he was still there on saturday, we would be there. Saturday morning rolls around, he was still there and I told them we were on our way. I also explained that it was a 3 HOUR trip for us. I offered to let them hold a credit card deposit( they couldn't do that) but asked that they PLEASE call us if someone comes in before we get there. She advised us to bring our other dog so we could see how well they got along. We loaded up both kids and our other dog and took off for the 3 hour trip.. I called and spoke with them twice and reassured them we were going to be there. TWENTY mins before we got there, they called and said they just adopted him out. I'm sorry... But in my book.. That's REALLY SORRY!!! So after all of this... I had to tell my son this obviously wasn't meant to be. After visiting several surrounding area animal shelters, the Allen Animal Shelter is where I found my fur baby!! The staff were very knowledgeable about each of the pups, explained personality traits of them, and the one i took home was the pup who chose me and the staff literally cried because she was leaving to a good home! There is a nice spot to take them outside to meet you and play, right outside the facility. Most of the dogs have a little bed that YOU provide by donation. Thanks again to the staff for taking care of my new baby before I found her!! read more

The negative reviews of the Allen shelter are over two years old now and my experience has been entirely different. We went to find a dog to adopt and they were very caring and cautious to make sure the dog was right for us (it wasn't as it was too aggressive with our Chi). I've found all employees to be considerate and compassionate and they take great care of the animals. It's not an easy job. read more

It's been hit or miss depending on who you encounter over there. I just called this morning to report a dead squirrel and rabbit on a road where many kids walk home from school. The gentleman I spoke with was very nice and said he'd get someone out there before school let out. There was a cranky heavy set lady (50's)there last year, but I don't see her anymore. I just adopted a wonderful dog at the Allen Animal Shelter and the experience was very very good. I called about a dog I had seen on the petfinder web page and it had been adopted. Alison took the time to talk with me and described another dog they had that I might like. We went to the shelter just to look. Everyone was really nice to us and the place was nice & clean as well. They let us take the dog out to an enclosed animal play yard that nice as well and spend as much time as we wanted with the dog. After spending time getting to know the dog we adopted on the spot. They were also understanding and let me take the dog to my own vet for spaying and rabies shots. I don't know how this compares with the other shelters around town, but I was impressed. read more
