My intention is compassion for the animals, respect for adopters, and transparency for the public. Operation Kindness' primary focus seems to be population control, and while that goal matters, the way they pursue it can come at the expense of a puppy's well-being. They routinely spay and neuter puppies as young as six weeks old, without fully considering the adopter's intentions or the long-term health needs of the puppy. They even labeled my foster puppy as "cryptorchid," despite the fact that you cannot reliably diagnose cryptorchidism at six weeks old--the testicles often descend much later. I pleaded repeatedly with their medical manager to delay my foster's neuter until he was older and safer for the procedure. My only goal was to give him a healthy, loving, and stable life. I wasn't asking for anything extreme--I offered to: Sign a delayed-neuter contract Make a donation Adopt my foster before any surgery Pay out of pocket for neutering him at the appropriate age Even bring in a lawyer to draw up a binding agreement But every single compromise I proposed was refused. Instead of working with someone fully committed to adopting and caring for this puppy, they insisted on sending him into surgery at just six weeks old. Their medical manager, Katie, repeatedly dismissed my concerns, telling me that early neuter has no negative effects and that no scientific research says otherwise--despite the many legitimate peer-reviewed studies I've personally found that outline potential risks. In the end, I had no choice but to allow them to neuter my foster if I wanted to adopt him. I love my dog, and I would do anything for him, but their rigid policies and refusal to consider his individual needs felt unethical and cruel. I have always believed in adopting--every dog deserves a chance and has a beautiful soul. But this experience has made me rethink ever adopting a puppy from a shelter that practices such extreme early-age sterilization. As a first time dog owner it was very very daunting. I appreciated how volunteers walked me through how much work it is to have a puppy and made sure I came away with the right decision. Our family is so happy with this new member! I also helped my friend adopt her dog here. Would highly recommend. Some awesome bonus reasons are: 1) the packet you get includes really helpful instructions and tips for first time dog owners. They also included a neat 25% off first time coupon and a list of vets that are partnered with them. In the first two weeks, if the pup is sick, you can bring him/her back to receive treatment. I felt like we weren't jumping off the deep end but felt guided each step. 2) facility is very clean and they have a dog mannerism tags on each cage so you know how mannered they are 3) I loved the advice the volunteers gave. They were wonderful and helpful. At one point a volunteer was reminding us how huge of a responsibility a pup was. It's true -- they want to make sure YOU'RE prepared and the pup is going to a loving home as well. Would recommend if you see a dog you want, GET IT. They rotate very quickly! Top notch experience which started with Kennedy on the telephone. My dog passed away in July. I had many items to donate such as a car seat, a dog sofa, baby gates, clothes, leashes, blankets, pads and cans of prescription food etc - Kennedy said c'mon on over. My first experience with this animal rescue was met with a 2 hour ordeal to foster with the hopes to adopt a female puppy. I was told she was to be spayed at the young age of 2 months. They had scheduled with me this to be done at 7 weeks. I have been aware of this practice of spaying so young in many of the animal shelters to keep the cycle from getting out of control of strays. puppy mills, animals never retrieved, ect. I have issues with wanting to adopt a puppy that is so young having this procedure, that may cause issues, such as development of bones and organs, urinary incontinence, and other problems. This rescue provides many things for best outcome of these animals, no doubt! Why would they spay an animal, before what is recommended 6 plus months, and the animal may experience health issues through its life? I doubt many who are adopting are aware of this medical practice and may be bringing home a pet that will have future medical expenses and the heartache of a sick animal. I was dismissed in wanting to put off this procedure for longer, with the understanding of bringing her back for the procedure a few months later in writing. I could not even talk to a vet or anyone to reason with them. There is nothing Kind in this operation what they are doing to these puppies, only to set them up for future health problems. Most people would want to know what they are committing to when adopting. Makes me very sad when I took her back, she would of had a beautiful life in our home read more

I'm a cat lover and it pains me to just see them all locked up in kennels. They just look so sad. I'm glad it's a no kill shelter but it DEFINITELY gave me Petland vibes. I've been to the humane society in dallas and all the cats roam free and full of energy. They section off sick cats, teenage cats, kittens in big rooms but also just let a lot of cats wander free for you to interact with. Super frustrating with this company. To start me and my wife visited this place to find our furry friend. My wife has adopted from here before so she new the routine. We found the puppy we wanted and mentioned we were going to come back the next day and get her. We looked on the page later that evening to see the puppy was no longer available. We called up there and they mentioned that someone came in and wanted to foster the dog which is perfectly fine. We understand that first come. A little upset, but we understood. My wife would check the website daily to see if there was any other puppy that caught her eye and boom. One showed up last night that we going to be going to an event. I got to the event 30 minutes early, before they ever started bringing the puppies out. They finally brought them out and they placed the one on the table that I was going for. It wasn't even 10AM yet and the event hadn't started. The person working came up and asked if I was looking and which I replied that I know exactly which dog I wanted and pointed. She mentioned that the dog is no longer available that while they were unloading, one of the workers said they would adopt that dog. I drove an hour and a half, was there 30 minutes before, was the first one that acquired about the dog, just to be told sorry one of the workers was adopting the dog. I was then told well good luck and try a little harder. I get if there was a dog that was left and didn't get adopted. To spend all this time to make sure I was first so I wouldn't lose another dog just to be told nope and try harder. Disappointed. read more

Two years ago, our beloved fur baby passed away. Any pet lover knows how difficult this is to experience. It was especially hard on my husband because Jackson was his buddy. After a few years, we finally decided to give love to a new fur baby. I am a firm believer in adopting from shelters instead of buying from breeders. We didn't need a fancy breed, just one that needs a good home. I did a lot of research online of the various shelters. Profile after profile, I just didn't have that FEELING- the one in which you just know it would be a good fit. That is, until I logged onto the Operation Kindness website after many times and seeing a new doggie named Snowball. Her eyes in her photo just spoke to me. I promptly called and found that she was still available, so after work I headed over to meet her. The shelter was packed, which I loved seeing because that meant babies were finding homes for Christmas! The employees at the front desk were super friendly and while I filled out some paper work, she went to get Snowball so we could meet. Since it was so busy in the lobby, the gal took Snowball out and I followed. Now, Jackson was a trusting dog. Snowball, not so much. She came to me when I sat on the ground but she was weary of me, for sure. I felt sad, because I wanted to make sure we both liked each other. I gave her some treats and she warmed up some, but not much. That just made me more determined for her to love us. Ok, little doggy, you are getting a forever home! The employee and I sat down in the office and completed the paperwork and all information was given to me about her health. She was fighting a UTI and upper respiratory infection and was on antibiotics, and I assured the employee that I was absolutely fine with this. Off we went to her new home! I called my husband on the way home- he had no idea I was bringing home a pet that evening- and asked if he was ready to meet his new daughter. He was so thrilled! It has now been a month and a half since she came to live with us. She has completely opened up to us and her little personality is shining through her fear. We have renamed her Verda Belle and she is loving being totally spoiled, which she so deserves! They failed to mention that they tell you that they do NOT test for feline aids or leukemia on the kittens under 6 months so they can sell sell sell. so I unknowingly brought this kitten into my home with my other animals and cats. places run by mostly kids might want to get better service at the main location as the kid volunteers at the pet stores, don't know a single thing. I pray and hope my cat does not test positive at home due to operation kindness negligence. they also had the audacity to tell me they get another cat. read more

Our organization wanted to give back to the community and decided to dedicate our time at Operation Kindness. The staff were kind and helpful in training us how to read each animal's chart and what to do in each situation. The dogs and cats were all so cute and adorable. The dogs were thrilled to have guests over and we were allowed to walk the dogs on the trail. Some of the cats roam round free in their designated room and a few were playful. The kitten room was my favorite personally. They're cute and mew to get your attention. Operation Kindness is just a great organization and we're happy to hear they'll be expanding to include a larger medical unit. With the construction, be wary of parking. I found my second kitty here who we love so much. staff was very kind and helpful, their facility is so clean and peaceful. I only saw the kitties but they seem very comfortable. i am only giving 4 stars because like other reviews, i was also unaware they did not test for feline leukemia or at least i wasn't made aware wether he was positive or negative. thank God he was negative because he could've put my other one at risk. they are also not very thorough with the adoption process, i thought it would've been more strict like asking if i have other pets or kids at home and if i plan to let him outside or not etc.. but maybe it was just me, not sure if they do that with everyone or not and im sure they want the animals adopted out which is understandable. regardless i am happy that everything turned out well. they care for the animals and facility with love and i would recommend them. thank you all! read more

Thanks to Operation Kindness for my sweet babies. Earlier this year, my elder 18 year old dog had to be put to sleep, and I was too sad to get another dog, but wanted to have another furbaby to love. I saw a Facebook post, and fell in love with Salem. I adopted him just before I had wrist surgery this summer. He had had just had a leg amputated, and needed lots of love. We recovered healed our bodies and hearts together. He went from being scared and hiding, to a total cuddlebug. Next, was Roo(name changed to Samu), who was a big, older male. He and Salem made instant friends. Third and last, was Coconut(name changed to Shazi to match the boys names). She was also a recent amputee, and I was not sure if I could handle another kittie...but her photo kept popping in my mind, and I got her...All 3 are friends. Shazi is still a little scared, but lets me hold and pet her if I take my time. I love them all!!! read more

They didn't bother to even groom these poor doggies, plus they came with Kennel Cough and got my other dog sick costing me an additional $180. Went for their Dog Day Afternoon event on 09.30.17! It was easy to distinguish who was a Volunteer at the event & who was a guest. The staff were super friendly & helpful! There were so many puppies up for adoption. There were so many free treats. There was free microchipping. There was a dog psychic. They have trails in the back where you can take your dog on a mini adventure. It was clean. You can tell they really care for the animals they see. My Brodie was spoiled by everyone! I stumbled on this no kill shelter by chance after going to Petco, Petsmart and the Dallas Cat Lady. Wow!!!!! Amazing, the staff, veterinarians, the variety of dogs, cats to choose from. The volunteers they really care that it's a good match for the animals and for you!! Helpful, knowledgeable and extremely patient. Everyone ought to experience this wonderful shelter. They just added on so now even more care for the furr kids!!! Donations are always welcomed and needed, events they have throughout the year. This no-kill shelter has been in operation for over 30 years, and they find homes for over 2,000 animals each year! I got my dog, Oscar, at Operation Kindness, and two of my friends have also adopted dogs here. We couldn't be happier. The shelter workers did a good job of assessing the kind of pet that would be good for us and they gave us really good information about training our new dog. We got to see a lot of pups, and then when we found one we liked, the workers let us take him into an enclosed play area to see how he would respond to us. If you have a dog already, I think you can bring it and see how the dogs interact. A puppy is only $160 and an adult dog is only $135, and that includes a lot of things besides just the dog: * First vaccinations * Worming * Collar and ID Tag * Microchip * Spay or Neuter surgery * Treatment of any known illness * Bath and flea dip * Heartworm test and treatment if necessary. *Heartworm preventive for dogs and puppies Operation Kindness also has cats and kittens, but I didn't check that out. I am both a volunteer and an adopter at Operation Kindness. I truly believe this is the best rescue group in the metroplex. Nothing against the other groups of course, I just love this place. Operation Kindness is a no-kill shelter, which means that no animal will be put to sleep to make more room, or for bad behavior, health, etc. All animals receive excellent care here. I have seen the place before opening and after closing, and have seen what goes on, and it is very comforting to know that the dogs and cats here are so well taken care of. They will do literally anything to save a dog or cat here, no matter how expensive. I chose to volunteer here because they were looking for more volunteers and it was a no-kill shelter. It is so much fun and I'd recommend it to anyone that loves animals. There is staff here that does most of the nitty gritty and dirty work. For the most part you are free to do whatever you wish (usually walking dogs), though helping the staff is certainly appreciated. I make the drive from Rowlett (about 30-45 minutes each way) about once a week and it is totally worth it. I recently adopted a dog here as well. She is the sweetest dog I have ever met and I am sure that is at least partially because of the love and attention she received from other animal lovers while she was here. Many dogs come in with a fear of people, or walks, and end up improving dramatically. It is a wonderful facility, much better than any other shelter I have been to, and the staff keeps it very clean. The arrogance of the people that work there is unbelievable. I went on Sunday to find a companion for my dog Max. I went in fill out there profile required. Was not that busy so I ask to see a couple dogs. They left me sitting in the lobby for 20 minutes with many workers there available but they chose to ignore me so I left the place a little disappointed with their lack of attention. I woke up Monday to go back thinking it must have been just a bad day and give it another try as I wanted to find a mate for my other dog. Nope!! I go in now I'm the only person there looking for a dog and once again they just ignored me. After asking to see 3 dogs they once again just left me sitting. I can't imagine how they neglect the animals there. Terrible place read more

Discrimination in business I'd say I initially had high hopes for. Visited this location today to surrender an abandoned 8month old puppy. Was misled with false information throughout the conversation with one of the staff members as when arrived was informed that they were booked with no available cages and since I wasn't a resident of carrolton I'd have to take the puppy to a Dallas animal shelter. Later on in the conversation she then stated for her to be able to take the puppy in he would have to be socialable towards humans and animals. I informed her that he is and also loves dogs as he is trained, vaccinated and extremely smart. Another staff member was caring for a customer across the way, as I seen her take the Aussie to the back with a cage. The staff member that I was speaking with informed me that the customer was returning a dog that was "one of theirs". I was super offended but curious to why she brung the dog back to the shelter. She then proceeded to apologize countlessly despite no attempt to check their system, started naming numerous reasons why it was best to go elsewhere as "an additional building is being built and will be booked for the next two weeks". I informed her that due to good reputation from reviews that I'm more than open to wait two weeks, she then informed me that it'll actually be more like a month and then began apologizing again. I seen her then look down and try to pet the puppy. They say a dog knows best and can sense the bad in individuals, after sniffing the older lady he backed back under the table towards me. The lack of intelligence was tested as she got up from the table stating that he was stand-offish and that they don't accept aggressive dogs. In which he never showed his teeth, growled nor snap at her to indicate he was an aggressive dog. In desperate the need to rehome a abandoned puppy they turned not only me but a poor puppy away with a list of random shelters. Incompetent employees and unpleasant experience won't be going back any time soon as I don't trust this poor puppy in their hands. read more
