Left a lost puppy here and I asked if i would be able to return to get him if he goes unclaimed. I was immediately told "we can put him down if we want to you have no rights to him" while i understand i had no rights or claim to the dog and im sure they're obligated to say their policy it came off INCREDIBLY harsh and cruel. Staff were extremely cold and unsettling. This is a KILL shelter. If you're looking to give up a dog or bring in a stray I urge you to find a different shelter. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I found a kitten in my back yard. I have two cats and couldn't take in a third. Tried so many rescues and resources, no one could take him. I talked to the humane society and they told me to drop the kitten off the following week after the weekend. I came in, and they told me then they couldn't take him because they were full. I was flying out that day for a trip so I had to take him in and they told me to try the animal services next door. The man there at the front desk was extremely rude and derogatory. I filled out paperwork with the name we gave the kitten and notes saying to PLEASE CALL ME before deciding to euthanize. I would find a way to take him in before that option. He filled out the paperwork on his computer (after waiting an hour and a half) with NONE of the info I gave him and renamed the three month old kitten Miracle. I asked to make sure he wouldn't be euthanized and the man was very evasive about his answers. I called back two days later to see about having someone pick the kitten up and guess what, he was immediately euthanized. I am absolutely devastated because he was just the sweetest baby and had a whole life ahead of him. I will NEVER go there again. Ever! read more

Still 5 stars, still a volunteer even though I no longer live there! I always volunteer for a Saturday when I am in the area visiting. Can't keep me away! - To clarify my older review: The town of Irving takes in the animals. And they are generally quite overcrowded and have no choice but to put some animals down. The DFW Humane Society side takes in animals from the Town of Irving side, and they will hang onto them forever if necessary and do not put down any animals due to lack of space. - There is a completely separate foster-based organization called PAWS For Irving Animals. They save animals from the shelter that would otherwise be put down due to space constraints and places them in foster homes around the area. Please google PAWS For Irving Animals for details. Being hid the fact that she was pregnant, and being bitten. The employees here asked me to pay $150 to surrender the cat. I highly advise you go somewhere more honest. A huge round of applause for the employees of Irving Animal Services! I adopted my new BFF; Sophie (formerly Diamond) here at the beginning of March, and not a day goes by where I don't think about the heroes who saved her and gave her a shot at the life she deserves. I stumbled upon a listing for Diamond on Instagram. She had a very sad past (been the subject of three cruelty investigations, heartworm positive, overbred, emaciated) and had been nursed back to health and was looking for a furever home. I was actually on work assignment out of state when I saw her listing, and I was totally in love with this sweet pittie. I kept checking her listing everyday I was away and when I got back to Dallas, I called Irving Animal Services to inquire about her. I had been told a lot of people where interested in her, but that they wanted to make sure she went to the right home. I was really happy that they were asking questions about my background with the breed and what my living situation was like (she couldn't be in a house with other dogs) because they really had her best interest at heart. After I got through the initial questions, I was able to speak with the Animal Control officer; Patrick, who was her main caregiver and had invested a lot of his time training and getting her ready for adoption. He really cared deeply for her and I was really happy that she had been loved so much. A few days later I got to meet Diamond (now Sophie) for the first time and I knew, she was family! My last Pittie had passed away in November and I had really missed her and as a way to honor her, I wanted to open my heart and home to a deserving pup. The adoption process required a little paperwork and a $25 adoption fee. I was provided with her medical history and before I left- several employees were asking if I was adopting Diamond, and they were genuinely happy for her to get adopted. They all seemed personally invested in seeing her go to a good home. It was very touching and I cannot say enough good things about Irving Animal Services! They didn't give up on Sophie and so many people were kind enough to care about this poor, sweet girl having a life. A good life- like all dog's should have. Sophie has settled in nicely into our family and she lights up our life! She's exuberant, sassy and full of sweetness. There are real heroes working here and I'm so grateful for everything they've done. You guys rock! read more

This dog park is impressively large with lots of grass for chasing and playing. The area inside the fence isn't entirely flat and has a few small trees for added points of interest. There's actually 4 fenced areas although on the occasions we've visited, only the 2 nearest the parking area appear used with any regularity - 1 for small (under 25lbs) dogs and one for large (over 25lbs) dogs. We visit the large dog area, so this review doesn't really cover the small dog area, although it looks pretty similar to the large dog area. My only "complaint" is that there's not a lot of shade available in any of the fenced areas, so on a hot, sunny day, it'll get pretty toasty unless you want to get up close and personal with other owners to share the single double-sided bench under the shade structure. There's another bench and some large rocks available for sitting, but neither are shaded. Also, beware of the mud pit that seems to develop near the water fountain in the large dog area even during dry weather - after a good rain, it's particularly nasty. read more

If you are trying to help the pets if homeless people DO NOT CALL Irving Animal Control or the city for any reason. All they do is show up judge the homeless person, possibly give them a malicious ticket (s), and definitely cally the homeless police to immediately run off the homeless person and their pets who are ALREADY barely surviving. Wherever they are is a refuge for water, shade, food, and other survival help. So it is only making their resources harder to obtain by running them off and possibly having them ticketed. People need to take the initiative themselves to have a network to assist the homeless and their pets. Calling the city only criminalizes the homeless. Help instead of oppressing people who need help. The city does not care despite what you are being told. The animal control Officer Polk just calls the cops behind my back who show up and then call code enforcement behind my back run my dogs and I off. The cops tell me to go to the city for housing. However, as they know their is a long waiting list. They know in 24 hours I won't have a home. They are literally running my dogs into a potentially even more dangerous situation getting water shade food rest and any other resources. Stop taking the easy way out buy spending 20 seconds complaining to animal control. Stop judging people and really step up yourself. Criminalizing homeless people for existing IS NOT helping their pets. read more

I adopted a dog last week from this shelter. I did have to wait in line several times, not because the line was long but each thing took awhile to do and they were understaffed, but it was worth it. I had been looking for a dog for awhile and had been to several shelters, but this one had several dogs that I was deciding between. There were so many wonderful dogs here. It killed me to have to choose one, but she is the sweetest little thing. You can take the dogs out for a walk and go in meeting rooms with them. Finally, a great dog park in Irving. I've taken my Dalmatian up there a few times. Of course, he doesn't want to leave my side, so he doesn't do much, but they did a great job with the setup. There are two main sections with each section broken up into big dog and small dog areas. There are rocks throughout the areas, plus a covered section for all the humans that get hot. Plus water fountains for adults, kids, and dogs. There are also benches out in the middle of the fields. There have always been quite a few great people and their dogs out when I've been. When I was referred to visit IACC for a little hairy addition to my family I was a bit reluctant to make the drive. This is a very nice place to shelter pets. The staff was so professional and friendly. As I made my way through the viewing areas with Sarah to see Tater, Tootsie and Tucker (dont know why they all had T names there were so many great dogs. When I finally made a decision on the T that I wanted we went out and played, "oh my" was he a cutie. Tucker was the perfect puppy. I was so delighted to get him. After the paperwork and counseling he and I left the IACC with a new found name ( Blue). If you are looking for a pet to adopt or give up this is a great choice. They don't put any animals to sleep unless their needing to be for health or medical reasons. I truly admire the compassion that the staff have here for the pets and all the work they do. I really want to give this something better but I can't based on the following unresolved issue. The large dog side mud pit. When the park first opened, it was wonderful and our Aussie loved to run and play and have a blast. While we can nitpick about the lack of shade, overall I would say this is a 4 star kinda place. Then a small muddy hole on the large dog side started. People called the city to see if they could fill it in since everyone's dogs would get muddy and messy. That was August. September it began to grow and now was roughly 5 feet in diameter. October it stayed the same size but now was very deep because some people let there dogs dig in it. We now have a 5 foot round 3 foot deep mud hole. Calls, emails and complaints were circulated. November comes and the hole starts to expand. And now in December the hole is more a mud trench, wrapping slowly around roughly 25% of the shade/water area that all the dogs naturally rest. I personally have called, emailed and even in person tried to get them to come out and fill the hole in. Lowes says about 20 bags of pea gravel could fix this instantly. I asked if I could do it on my own, and the city specifically said that I actually could get a ticket for altering city property! I know dogs get messy at dog parks and I am SOOO not a fru-fru oh my dog can't get messy kind of guy, but this is really ridiculous, especially when so many people have said something. Thus, 2 stars. So city of Irving, for less than 100 bucks we could fix this and make things way better, but no. Easier to ignore it and let something mildly good turn to crap. read more

We go to this park because it is the closest one to our house. It is pretty small but they do have seperate large and small dog yards. They have a total of 4 areas which they rotate to keep the areas clean and the grass alive. This park is well cared for and there are other dogs there most of the time. The owners seem to be attentive and we have never had a problem. read more

Did not get any help. They made it seem like I did not want my dogs at all. The lady was rude and did not help. I was told I can pay what I have, but I will be given a ticket for the dogs get loose, but if I paid the whole amount if I borrowed money then I wouldn't get a ticket and have to go to court. I told the lady I couldn't afford the ticket nor the cost to get my dogs out and she told me so then you don't want your dogs and are surrendering your pets. What kind of help is that? I took my dog here to play around and socialize with other dogs. The park is nice and spacious with an area to rinse your dog if he gets muddy. The grass is super green and they have designated areas for big dogs and small dogs. There's also water fountains and shaded areas for owners to sit and watch their dogs. Love this place and will definitely bring my dog here often! read more

I'm so glad to have a dog park just a few miles from my place. I have a large puppy (75 lbs and still growing) and I need all the space and four-legged friends I can find to run that energy out of him on a regular basis. The park isn't as large as some others (Northbark, Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park) but it has a decent amount of space for the dogs. There were at least a dozen large dogs for mine to play with last night so I was glad to see so many out on a July evening. One person brought a plastic kids' pool and filled it up right next to the fountain. What a great idea! Several of the dogs, though not mine, really enjoyed it. There are rocks surrounding the covered seating area so that is no longer muddy from water fountain use. Everyone was very nice and friendly and the dogs for the most part were all well-behaved. Some were very loud vocal players but there was no real aggression. The parents of the vocal dogs were also diligent about checking their dog's behavior which I don't always see happening at other parks. My only issue is later on in the evening a couple brought their 3-4 month old heeler puppy into the large dog area: 1) it's dangerous for a puppy that young to be out like that as it is not as well vaccinated, 2) it was much too small to be on the large dog side. Thankfully everyone else at the park was accommodating and friendly but you could tell we all knew it was not wise. Some chose to leave the park just because the puppy's presence was causing too much excitement. Within 20 minutes or so it was close to sunset (closing time for the park) but I wish people would educate themselves about dogs before adopting and then bringing them to a leash-free area. I adopted mine 3 weeks ago from Irving Animal Care Campus so he is still learning manners but it's still unfortunate I had to cut my dog's time short because I didn't want to risk him trampling that puppy. I wouldn't bring my 75+ lb dog into the small dog side for courtesy and safety concerns so it is appreciated if those with small dogs don't bring theirs into the side with mine. We will be back because it's so convenient and overall a good experience; but, it would be nice if people observed age and weight limitations so it's a safe and fun place for everyone and every dog. read more

Finally after two years, the dog park is complete. I think its kinda strange there is never more than five people out. I usually go around 6pm when the temp is teetering down. (Hopefully!!) Both Hunter & Evan love it but there's not much to do other than run around. Luckily both my boys are couch potatoes so I don't have to worry too much. The people that work here have big hearts. They put 100% into their efforts for very little in return. And to top it off, Irving Animal Care Campus has a beautiful dog park open to the public. I have now gone to all of the animal shelters in the DFW area and this is still my favorite. Irving is a ghetto city yet this animal shelter is exceptional. Very clean, well run, large, and most of all - the employees/volunteers do have big hearts. I have never met such sweet people since moving to texas. I adopted a dog recently and had to return him due to my roommate. I litterally BAWLED MY EYES OUT in front of everyone. I was so sad about having to return the puppy. I was so embarassed, too. The staff was really, really, really kind to me about it. They tried to make me feel better. These people really do want whats best for the animals. You do NOT find that everyday. Seriously amazing place! I had just had a horrible experience at VCA (see my review). And just when I had given up hope on ever getting my dog back, Ashley and Corey call me to tell me that they had my dog. VCA finally had given her to them, and if I wanted her back, I could come get her at no charge. They were just happy to reunite a dog with her owner. I'm beyond thrilled. To top it off, they said they will be filing a formal complaint with VCA's corporate office, and I greatly appreciate that. read more

I can't speak to the dog park so my review is based on the adoption center. In terms of dog and cat adoption, this place is great. It's clean and open with rooms where you can take the animals out yourself and get to know them. My kids love to go there and play with the cats and kittens that are out roaming around in their own respective rooms. The staff and volunteers are helpful, although busy, so plan on being assertive if you are ready to adopt. Just understand that there are two different agencies under one roof. On the right is the no-kill Humane Society. On the left is the city run facility. So you have to check the websites for the two agencies separatly to see if they may have your furrever friend. The adoption fees are reasonable on the city side, they have no application process other than demographic data and method of payment, and they often have weekends where the fees are waved or reduced for adult animals. I'm not sure about the Humane Society's fees, but I think they actually do have a counseling/ application process with questions pertaining to your fitness as an adopter, you know, yard, equipment, landlord approval, etc. Whichever way you lean- right, or left, you have double the chances of finding a good match. read more

Horrible customer service. I called in about a dog I found on the website at the top of the kill list that I was going to come in and adopt. I was transferred to the front desk and I was asked to hold by the woman who answered my call. Before I could respond I was put on hold. I was left on hold for 10 minutes before I hung up and called again. This time I asked the man who answered to transfer me to the front desk, which he did, and the line rang to their voicemail so I left a message. I asked for them to call me back as soon as possible and left my name and number. As I needed to adopt this dog before I went into work that afternoon and was not getting a response, I decided to call one more time before I got in the car and drove over to see if there had been some issue with the front desk. I was again put on hold. I walked out to my car and started the 40 minute trip out to hopefully adopt my new dog-- all the while still being on hold. I had a friend with me and asked her to try calling them a few minutes later to see if she had any luck. She was transferred to the front desk and put on hold. My friend hung up after 7 or 8 minutes but as my phone was now connected to my car, it was easy to continue waiting for someone to answer the phone. As we pulled into the parking lot, I noted that I had been on hold for 46 minutes. I walked inside only to find that the dog was no longer there but still on the website. Were they euthanizing that poor dog while they had me on hold for the better part of an hour?! I can only imagine. Please learn some customer service skills. read more

Great dog park close to home! It can get a little muddy a few days after rain, but that's typical. They have water fountains on both of the large dog areas (can't speak for the small dog areas) and usually have a kiddie pool to dogs to play in or drink out of. Great shades areas for people. Love seeing the shelter staff bring the shelter dogs out to play also. read more

I took my 5 month old daschund puppy to the puppy park today and it was awesome! There are 2 parks one for over 25 pounds & the other for under. The parks have shaded areas with benches for owners & water fountains. Plenty of space for dogs to run and play and green grass! read more
