We wanted a ski rack for our 2017 Crosstrek. I came onto Yelp and Open Road Outfitters seemed like the easy choice based on all the reviews. All those who came before me were correct. Open Road Outfitters had all the options we needed. Dustin helped us out and made the process easy and fun. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon in January. I was a bit worried that we'd be asking for trouble trying to buy a ski rack on the weekend during the winter, but Dustin had us in and out with a new Yakima FatCat installed on our car in under 20 minutes. Installation was cheap ($20) and took him all of 5 minutes. He also said they'd take the rack off for free at the end of the season since we paid for installation. On top of that, he was a super friendly guy and made the whole process enjoyable. If we have more car rack needs, this is the place I'm going and I highly recommend you do the same. read more

For 2019 road glide special hitch is not bolt on, had to spend a few hours (money) grinding to fit base plate. Ordered for 4 wire, wiring has 5 to 4, ok then instructions say see instructions in 5 to 4 converter, but thst did not come with the kit. Requested help, out of office for 10 days, for these reasons, its not bolt on, not plug and play and I do not recommend. read more

These guys are the absolute best at what they do. I went in to get a cargo box and they walked me through sizing for my vehicle, pros and cons of different brands and spent over 30 minutes installing the new Yakima because I didn't have the cross bar key with me and they had to improvise to move them. This seemed second nature and without hesitation. Once the rack was secure, they walked me through every scenario that I may encounter with the newly acquired height on my vehicle. And when all was installed, made me a second key, as we bought a used box, and walked me through how to remove and reinstall it. The best customer service a gal could ask for! I stumbled across this place while looking for a hitch mounted bike rack for my new vehicle. Stopped in after work one evening and was amazed at the selection and options of racks both new and used. The owner and guy working there was very knowledgeable and offered several options. You can even rent the equipment if you only need it temporarily or if you wanna try it out first. I ended up with a 2-tray hitch rack for a sweet price and they hooked it all up in a flash. Awesome customer service!! Was looking for a cargo box as we had family coming in town to ski for New Years - needed it fast! They had both new and used options here - we purchased the used cargo box and saved hundreds. They were super helpful. They installed the rack on our car along with the cargo box in maybe 45 minutes. Would have taken me hours. Works like a charm. SO FANTASTIC! I just left there this afternoon with a new roof rack and thule box. From start to finish there was never even an ounce of "sales." It was "hey, how can we help you get what you want?" I am now all set, better educated about do's/don'ts and could not be happier with how I was treated, the quality of the products (which they stand behind completely) and great craftsmanship/work they put in to make every slight/small adjustment to make sure everything was installed PERFECT. I needed a bike rack for my Subaru. After looking at torn-up equipment on Craigslist, $200 bike racks at rack attack, without locks or installation, stopping by Performance Bike Shop and shopping online, I found these guys. I bought a Rocky Mounts (unused, scratch and dent) fork mount rack with keys, locks and installation for $140, and that was on the higher end of their price scale. You could spend anywhere from $15 on up for a bike rack, depending on what you are looking for. Bob showed me how every function on the rack works and installed and adjusted for no charge. Its a business run by a couple of local guys, who know their stuff and offer REALLY good prices and REALLY GREAT customer service. From what I saw they have scratch and dent and used equipment, and with their knowledge of the equipment, I'd trust them fully to help you find an operational, trustworthy rack for a good price. I'd trust them to mount my $5,000 bike on my $500 car any day. Basically, its the price of craigslist with better service than rack attack. I will be buying all of my racks from them and will definitely recommend them to anyone who needs a rack. read more

Called a week in advance to rent a cargo box. Went over my vehicle and everything I was looking for. When I arrived the day before my trip. They advised my roof rails were not what they expected and that it would cost me an additional $110 more than what they quoted me. Apparently the crossbars and clamps my car required they only had brand new and not used, so I was going to have to eat the cost of opening new equipment they rent out. This all could have been resolved over the phone by telling me to come in a couple of days early or by explaining there could be a difference in cost once I arrived. I was left scrambling looking for another place to rent a box before my trip the following day. They had no issues with this and acted as if it was my fault. Worst customer service as they wouldn't even try to work with me. It was there cost or nothing. read more

I found these guys by chance and couldn't be happier. I was able to RENT an amazing roof top carrier on the same day I called for my trip the following day. He even offered to stay a bit late to help me out. The customer service was exceptional, the price is perfect and I even have the option to buy my carrier if I want to and have the rental price applied to the total. I rarely take the time to write a review, in fact I've never wasted the time to leave a negative review, until today. I have purchased two separate rack systems from Open Road and had issues with each system. The first system was on my Lexus RX and the locks would not function on brand new racks. After returning there three separate times, I finally was able to convince them that there was clearly a defect and new racks were the only fix. Instead of replacing them with the same brand, I thought it better to switch brands, which I did. The new racks were more expensive, so I paid the difference and had them installed. After the number of separate trips I made, I would have thought I'd at least get a discount, if anything. Not so. Fast forward to my new rack system on my Infiniti. To date, I have returned five times because the racks continually fall and come loose and are damaging the roof of my vehicle. Today, I returned for the last time and advised them that the round bar is clearly not working with the feet of the rack, regardless of how many times they tighten the rack, it comes loose and falls (slamming the roof of my vehicle, which is lovely when I'm going 80 mph on the highway). Instead of offering to change out the bar free of cost, which has clearly been an issue from the start, and for which I've returned numerous times wasting hours on end sitting there, I was accused of having someone loosen then rack (I'm not sure why I would do that, I mean I'm trying to avoid having to return!), or that someone else must be loosening it (again, impossible, given the fact that my vehicle is in a garage and it would be awfully difficult for anyone else to do it when the racks are locked). The only option I was given was to purchase an entirely new rack system so that it would have a different shaped bar that actually functions. Certainly, this was not the response I was hoping to receive, but instead of telling them how disappointing that response was, which was apparent from my demeanor I'm sure, I figured I'd write a review about my experience so that potential customers can think hard before they decide to give this facility their business. I work very hard and long hours, and the amount of time I've invested in just trying to get properly functioning ski racks is astronomical, and unnecessary. I have no choice but to replace the bar/feet, etc because of the damage it's causing to the roof of my vehicle; however, I plan to go to Rack Attack. Hopefully there I will only have to go once! read more

Extremely knowledgeable and motivated to sell me what would be the best equipment for my needs, not the most expensive or newest product. Reflexively go to a large inventory of used products to help save money; I didn't even have to ask for this. Labor costs were less than half what was quoted at the other place. My wife and I were making a trip to Chicago and I was searching Craigs list for a used roof box and came across these guys. I never though people would actually rent them but they did and it worked great. We don't have a need for one full time nor the money for one, however renting was quite affordable and if we wanted too they would have put the money toward a purchase. They had many, MANY, choices and sizes. They installed this in less time it took me to fill out the paper work. It worked just fine and I will be using them again.
