It is nice to see a Greek restaurant in this neighborhood. One thing I must warn about is that the portion sizes are huge. The restaurant itself is quite spacious with some outdoor seating too. The warm pita with hummus was good. I had the chicken sheesh kebab and it had a nice flavor. The sheesh kebab appetizer comes with 2 skewers while the sheesh kebab dinner plate has fries, rice, salad, beans and the kebab. The fries were crispy as fries should be. They were able to serve me chilled ouzo instead of the ouza cocktail on the menu on request. The service was good. They gave us boxes to take back the leftovers. read more

I happen to love Greek and Mediterranean food, having spent time in the Med and visiting most countries and enjoying food from all ports of call. I came here based on my Friends recommendation, of course he was there for dinner with me. So he wanted my opinion. They ordered the flaming cheese (I don't remember the name) and some hummus for appetizer, I ordered Pastitsio for my meal and I make this at home a lot an really enjoy it. I was concerned about the safety of the waiter the way he was handling the flaming cheese. Please understand I have seen enough stuff in my life to know when someone needs more training before they turn themselves into a flaming Alpha. In this case the waiter poured the alcohol over the cheese and it got on his hand and arm then he started to try to light it which I told him he may not want to do this, but he kept going, thankfully his lighter didn't spark as it got wet. He literally would have been screaming had it lit. He went back inside and someone else came out with a new flaming cheese and did it correctly. I still wonder about this option as it can be rather dangerous. It was tasty though. My Pastitsio was very good, I like mine with a little kick to it, but theirs was very authentic in taste. Why only 4 stars, well even though the food was good it appeared they only had 2 wait staff working or at least staff didn't come by very often to check on us to fill water glasses and such. This place is a hidden gem tucked into a nondescript strip mall in Avon. There are the standard Greek dishes, with a few more exotic offerings. I've been twice, the service ranged from "they tolerated us" to "they want to be my new BFF, gave great recommendations, love them!" I'm hoping the first time was a one-off and they mostly have great service. My first time there, I tried the salmon with lemon butter. It was disappointingly plain, cooked correctly but with a paltry amount of flavor. And perhaps I was anticipating an actual lemon butter sauce, I was sad to realize they just added tiny amount of melted butter and a dash of lemon to the otherwise plain fish. That said, I'd come here again and again just for the sides. The green beans and the rice pilaf were outstanding. I had them again the second time I went and they were just as good. For my main dish the second time, I had a gyro, and it was tasty. See Peter P's review for his take on our dessert. The tl;dr is the dessert was awful and cold, and asking the server to heat it just made it awful and warm, while managing to microwave every bit of crispiness out of it. The food was great! i had a server that did an outstanding job and no complaints within the facility itself. But, i was there earlier yesterday with a few friends, there seemed to be some commotion with some of the servers. A tall man whom didnt seem to even work there, as he sat at the bar all day watching tv, started to pick on what seemed to be a little girl. As i heard some of the commotion it seemed this hasn't been the man's first time doing this to one of the servers. two other servers as well as himself, took it upon themselves to gather at the bar seemingly to talk about the other waitress involved. i've been here countless times and it's not the first i've seen this kind of commotion from this man let alone the others at the bar. i've heard lots of ppl who have said the man scares them or even makes them feel uneasy about coming into opa, which is a genuine shame considering it is one of my favorites. this place is great outside of the people who clearly aren't sanitary nor sober. read more

Such a fun and cute restaurant! It gives off a very authentic Greek vibe and the owner is very friendly and makes sure your experience is worth while. The food is phenomenal and has so much flavor. Opa is always a favorite. The food is always great and the atmosphere is inviting. Annalise was the best waitress I've had anywhere in forever. Even though we got there a little late ( the kitchen was still open) and we were out by closing, she was the best! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting great Greek food! After the Indy 500, we decided to celebrate a family member's birthday at Opa and we couldn't have made a better decision!! My husband and I just moved to Brownsburg and I am half Greek so I was so excited to try this place. There was a large group of us (about 14 people) and when we called to see if they had availability, there was no problem fitting us in. Deja was our server and she was unbelievable! Quick, attentive service from her and the rest of the Opa team. Deja took care of everyone and made sure everyone had what they needed as well. Not one order was brought to the table incorrectly. This place seemed authentic so me & my wife decided to chk it out. We placed an order for take out cuz we were tired & planned to eat back at hotel. I ordered a gyro wrap with fries & she had a gyro platter. The food presentation was good but I could tell the gyro meat was not cooked thoroughly. It should normally be brownish & crispy on one side from being cooked on a spit. Our meat was definitely not that. It was more grayish but warm so I knew it was heated, just not the way I like it. As I ate my meal, I had to spit out hard pieces from the meal that were not consumable. Needless to say, I won't be going back. Opa! Greek food at its best! Avon is about a half hour away but well worth it. The restaurant is very open with a beautiful picture mural of the blue, blue water of Greece. It was a perfect day to sit out on the covered patio. Lots of seating inside as well. My husband had the moussaka dinner with roasted potatoes, green beans and rice. Also came with a good size side Greek salad topped with feta and very delicious dressing. I had the gyro sandwich, so big it was difficult to hold. The meat was flavorful and tender covered with taziki sauce, tomatoes and onions. Chips on the side. I really loved it! Couldn't resist a plate of olives, yum. First time at Opa. Our friends really like it and picked this as our place for lunch. Nice bright interior. Decorated well for a place in a strip mall. Wasn't sure at first when we walked in. It took a bit for us to be acknowledged, but understood because the servers were also host. We had very good service and the food was surprisingly good. Starter of Saganaki. Fried cheese always good. Husband got Chicken Riganato ( it was the closest thing to Chicken Souvlaki) with potatoes and green beans. I got a Gyro wrap minus lettuce and tomato with sauce on the side & French Fries. He said the chicken wa better than our favorite Greek Restaurant. I tried his potato and it was good. We both stayed clear of the green beans. We both hate cooked onions. Gyro wrap was great. After reading great reviews for Opa!, we decided to come here for dinner. We were not disappointed! We started with some cocktails and the appetizer platter - the ouzo cocktails were made well and tasted great! The chicken, pork, and gyro meat was so flavorful. For dinner we split the gyros platter and I'm so glad we did. The portions are HUGE! This place is seriously such a great value with fantastic food. It was also a fun atmosphere here. Normally everything is perfect, and 5 stars. Tonight you would of thought they were serving Mexican food for cinco de mayo, and they couldn't keep up. 6 waitress and 10 to 11 tables. Everything was terrible. My sandwich came out cold because my waitress was busy stocking wine. Nothing worse than watching a waitress have chipmunk cheeks because she stuck something in her mouth. I am not sure what to think. The older guy just cleans tables and sits at the counter. You could be looking like a deer in a head light, and won't be acknowledged by anyone. I've been here quite a few times, and to be honest, the food is fantastic, but the service is sketchy at best. It's one of those places where you may never get a refill on your drink, and you regret not paying with cash because it took you so long for your wait staff to remember you existed that you don't want to risk sitting for another 20 minutes to sign a credit card receipt. All of this while you see staff standing around chatting with restaurant front management. Again, GREAT food. Whoever is managing the kitchen is spot-on. This summer my grandkids and I drove to Cleveland to see the Rock and Roll hall of fame, and when we were looking for places to eat we saw Opa. With us loving Greek food, we had to stop. When we first walked in everything looked great. The host was nice and the place had a great smell and atmosphere. However, the server we unfortunately had was terrible. She walks up to the table slowly and is obviously on drugs. She's slurring her words with her eyes half closed and looks very unclean. Before we even got any of our drinks or food we were already off put by our server. Our food finally comes out (mind you there were many pauses and delays with everything our waitress did) and we feel worried about eating after seeing our servers dirt covered fingers in the sauce of my green beans. Everything about the food was great, I had a flavorful meal with pork and an assortment of vegetables. We loved it we just couldn't get past our server and not only all that but we would have these periods of time where she would be nowhere to be found or even once seen leaving the property outside only for her to run up in a flustered and panicked state profusely apologizing. We finish our food and wait for a very long time for our bill. My husband eventually has to walk up to another server and ask the young man to get it for us. I never write reviews but this was the worst experience service wise me and my husband have ever had and this waitresses problems needed to be addressed as I only see a few reviews mentioning it. So i had to make an account and discuss it. I don't know if she was new or what. Other than that whole situation, the food was great and the servers that kindly helped ours were very understanding and helpful. 1/5 because the service brought everything down that much. read more

Opa! is located in a small strip mall on Rockville Road in Avon with a large parking lot. You'll find a nice patio to the left of the entrance. A father and son duo, Gus & Dimos, own and run OPA!. Very nice meeting the father and hearing some history behind the mural and his restaurant. Shawna, our server, was very attentive and did a great job. Drinks were refilled, dirty dishes removed promptly, carryout containers arrived when requested and checkout was timely. The only thing she couldn't change was the Pepsi products they serve...not a fan but not everyone enjoys Coke products as I do. The question "Is Pepsi okay?" is a big no for me. Water please! The restaurant is a good size with a cozy and inviting atmosphere full of warm colors and a large wall size mural of the father's parents' home in Greece. What a cool way to share some of his memories with his family as well as his customers. The Bar serves beer and wine with 4 seats mainly for waiting on to-go orders or just grab an appetizer and cocktail. I'm not a wine drinker but it appeared they carry a nice selection of wines. After researching I found the Mavrodaphne wine is both a black wine grape indigenous to the Achaea region in Northern Peloponnese, Greece, and the sweet, fortified wine first produced from it by Gustav Clauss around 1850. I'm not a fan of sweet wine so I decided to just stick with water. I started with the Flaming Saganaki, a mild cheese flamed in Brandy with a squeeze of lemon served with a Pita. It was creamy and delightful but a lot of fun watching them lite on fire then shout OPA! I love calamari so I ordered the generous portion of Pan-fried Calamari off of the appetizer menu. The calamari was well seasoned, not overcooked and served with a flavorful tomato sauce and pita. Their authentic, traditional Greek recipes use genuine fresh and organic olive oil, lemon juice, vegetables, herbs, pastas, and wine. All very apparent in the Tigania dinner I ordered. Tigania has chunks of marinated pork tenderloin topped with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, and lemon sauce. Served with a small Greek salad, oven roasted potatoes and traditional, greek green beans on a bed of rice pilaf. I loved the Greek salad tossed in the house vinaigrette dressing and the tender pork tenderloin was delicious. The roasted potatoes were slightly crispy from the olive oil with a nice flavor from the seasonings. My husband ordered the Gryo's Burger with thinly sliced Gryo's meat, beef pattie with tomato and onions (minus the tzatziki sauce) served with chips. He opted for the $1.49 upcharge for fries. He found the Gyro meat tasty and tender and would order again. Delicious Mediterranean food, good service all in a cozy atmosphere! I definitely need to visit more often!! read more

While everything was fresh and tasted good, we were comparing it all to Yanni's Golden gyros which I think may have gone out of business. It was our favorite so we are in search of our new favorite for gyros. Like I said, everything was very fresh and tasted good, it just didn't compare with our old fave. We have ordered Opa through Door Dash on a few occasions now and it's been fantastic. The hummus and pita is so good. I'd like mine with a touch more garlic, but Opa's is still exceptional. Their gyros are generous and delicious. I get the pork dish, Tigania, and it's so perfectly cooked and flavorful. Recently, we tried the soups. The Egg Lemon was a huge surprise with chicken and rice. It was perfectly lemony and so much yum. I don't lentil, but my husband enjoyed the lentil soup. We love Opa! We have eaten there many times. We decided to have our son's wedding rehearsal dinner there and we couldn't have chosen any better! I met with Gus, the owner, about a month prior and he was so warm and accommodating. From the food, drinks, seating...anything we wanted was what we got. The night of the dinner was amazing. Within moments of our being seated we had drinks and wine and huge appetizer platters that had something for everyone. The main course was a hit. Everyone enjoyed what they had ordered, and many tried others dishes. Coffee and Baklava (along with some plate smashing for the bride and groom) rounded out the evening. Took 40 min to get food or drinks were never refilled, brought wrong entire out for one person and were not checked on for another 30min to let them know it was the wrong entree. When we said not to worry about brining the correct order the waiter just brought us a to go box and blamed the cooks. No offer to take it off the bill or anything.
