MEASURE & SAMPLE: Soon after, we scheduled time for them to take measurements and show us live samples of the shades/shutters so we can decide on color, material, placement, etc. No surprises along the way and we knew exactly what we were getting! We had initially thought about getting faux wood blinds, but they talked through the pros/cons and also showed us zebra shades (that we had initially thought wouldn't look nice). Luckily, they have sample swatches that we could hold up to our windows, so we can visualize what it might look like with the color and opacity. SERVICE: Along with the professional service and timely responses, they put me at ease every step of the way. We used ONYX to install our vinyl shutters in our new home. We had quotes from several companies and Onyx offered the most competitive rate. I was actually leaning toward another vendor who costed more but ended up choosing Onyx because they seemed to have more attention to detail. The gentleman from ONYX who came to measure noticed that one of our windows was more shallow than our other windows and recommended that we install on the outside of the window frame since the shutters wouldn't fit properly if we had it inset. The other companies that came didn't even mention that discrepancy. Make an appointment was super easy, and Raymond and Alicia arrived on time and were friendly and professional. Raymond took measurements while Alicia gave me design ideas. Yes, design ideas! There are so many colors and styles out there, it was hard and all of the other vendors were like "well, it's whatever you like", and I have no idea what I like! Alicia took a look at the wall colors, the floor colors, and quickly made suggestions on the color and style for the living areas and the bedrooms (room darkening). They were super patient and worked with us on a combination that worked with our budget. We made a deposit simply by sending a photo of our check and about 3 weeks later, the shades are here! Do not purchase anything from here unless you work for a shutters place. Does that make any sense? No. The reason is because they will order for you without clearly listening and going over things with you... and then expect you to pay for things you did not want. We encountered many issues when the installer came to install our shutters. Measurements were wrong, causing them to reorder the shutters, materials weren't available because they claimed all materials should be included but once the installer came, he saw that he needed certain parts to install the shutters.. something he had addressed to them but they blew him off because they said "everything is already included". Lastly, shutters were ordered that we clearly DID NOT want. When the installer came to the house, he was perplexed as he walked into the house, surveyed the area, walked back to the truck, and repeat. He did this twice. Seeing this, I inquired and he said he will show me. He pulled out a large shutter and said this was for the living room windows. Once I saw it, I knew there was a mistake. We ordered a 2 door opening shutters for these large windows. But the shutter they gave us only had one door. The installer thought it was a mistake since it was a large window and a one door shutter does not make any sense. I told him we ordered 2 door shutters Bc it's a big window and would make the most sense. The installer proceeded to install the other windows while I tried to call Raymond, from Onyx, to clear up the issue. I called him multiple times and he did don't answer. The installer did the same and no answer. I finally got an answer after while and he said he would call me back in one hour. 2 hours passed and nothing. I called back again and again. Finally he answers and states those are what we ordered and it's not their mistake. So we have to take them. I did not understand why we would have to keep something we did not order. My husband then speaks to him. Raymond proceeds to tell my husband that he convinced my husband to get the one large door shutter for the large living room windows, completely lying to both of us. We were really upset and tried to make him understand that we did not order that. Raymond declares that we did and he is unwilling to change it. He says we have to pay an extra fee for the windows to be made. Now, tell me who is willing to pay extra for a mistake they didn't make, where the contractor ordered based on what they wanted. We looked over the contract and it does not clearly show what we ordered. The contract has codes and lettering that is only clearly understood by someone who works with them. We told him we will not pay for something we didn't order, but we will pay for the others. He continued to refuse to work with us and threatened to take us to collections. Great business right?! Instead of working with us to fix a mistake that he made, he threatens collection. I guess that's one way to try to solve his mistakes. But it does not make for good business. I hope you learn through our experience. To top it off, since everything is backed up on the docks. It took 6+ weeks to get everything. So for the mistakes that he did claim to fix, we are forced To wait another 6+ weeks for that to get here. Never buying from them again! read more

Quite impressed with all aspects of Onyx Shutters. My family and I were renovating our home. We were looking at our options on how to provide privacy for ourselves and add some eye-catching appeal to the home. He provided us with detailed information and his own recommendations on how best to take care of our window needs. We visited their showroom as well. The finished product took 6 weeks to complete, and we were promptly contacted for a date to install the shutters. With exception to one window, all the others were beautiful, high quality pieces. These were all installed without an issue. Our last window did take an additional 6 weeks to correct, but since it wasn't a heavily used window, we weren't in any rush. Overall we've received quite a few compliments on the look of the shutters. The finish is great, and our family is very happy and love the final product.
