This review is long overdue! I have been getting my nails done at Onyx Nail Lounge for 2.5 years now. I had tried a few different salons that were nice, but it wasn't until I first came to Onyx that I knew I found the perfect nail salon for me! The salon is cute and clean. There is a big parking lot right across the street, so parking is a breeze! Refreshments are provided. Great vibe and they always have good music videos playing. They take their time to make sure my nails come out looking great every time. Everyone is friendly especially Tyn, the owner. Beware their new policy. I notice the last review here was posted two months ago. I've been a pretty loyal customer and have coming here for almost 5 years. Looks like they've recently changed their policy - and charge for removal of old gel polish on your toes before reapplying. Gotta say, I've never in my life had to pay for the old gel to be removed before the new one was applied. Gel color not acrylics, on my toes, never once paid to have it removed before new color was applied. You live and you learn. I just wanted to share before you try to get charged for what you thought was included in your service already. --- Edit: Since the owner responded, I want to clarify a few points for accuracy. I did initially choose the higher pedicure package but changed my mind after noticing a blister. I spoke with the tech, agreed to pay for the callus removal that had already been done, and switched to the regular pedicure. That should have been $30 for the pedicure, $10 for gel, and $5 for callus removal -- a total of $45. At checkout, I was charged $55. The only part of the more expensive package I received was the $5 callus removal, so the higher charge didn't make sense. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm sharing this not to argue but to help other loyal customers understand how charges can add up under the new system and to encourage clearer communication about pricing before services start.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] What's frustrating is that this "extra fee" for gel removal has never been charged before . it felt random and only explained afterward. The owner even told me on the phone she'd "make an exception this time," as if she were doing me a favor. That's not the issue. I loved the experience. I played hoodie from work and decided to treat myself. Tyn the owner very welcoming and he even painted my design on my nail. The only thing I didn't like was that I was getting a pedicure and a manicure at the same time and the guy working on my feet didn't get my ingrown nail because I was busy i pain with the hot stones on my arm. I couldn't tell the guy to cut it, also, I wasn't sure he knew that he had to check because his English wasn't good. I just let it go. Next time I'm going to request to have them done separately. I rarely get pedicures, but I really wanted to do something that felt splurge-y and indulgent for myself for my birthday. I checked the other reviews on Yelp and this place had a good combo of positive reviews and convenient location. I called to see if they had walk-in availability and was given an appointment time about 1.5 hours in the future. I arrived a bit early and was seated right away. The massage chair was a bit too aggressive, but they gave me the remote for it and it's my own fault I couldn't figure it out. The tech handed me a sheet with the various pedicure options and asked which one I wanted. I asked for clarification between the top two offerings (I really wanted something luxurious) and the man at the front (the owner, I believe) did not try to upsell me at all and suggested the less expensive option, which I went with. There were a lot of steps in this pedicure. I don't recall the exact order, but there was a soak, nail and cuticle attention, some kind of plastic wrap thing that dissolved the callouses on my feet and they were subsequently filed off (I felt like apologizing for the sheer amount of dead skin I had no idea my feet were holding onto), a mask, a scrub, a lotion, hot towels on my legs, hot stone massage, paraffin, and nail polish. I really love the way my nails look and how my feet feel. The atmosphere was clean and bright, everyone there was friendly. I saw a parent and child come in and get mani/pedis and they were great with the kid, so I would say it's a child-friendly place. They have two large TVs on the wall, one on Netflix and one showing a variety of international music videos. They also have a little fridge and offered me a little water bottle. I can't believe the amount of stuff that was done to my feet for the relatively low price I paid. I recommend this nail salon. My feet are very happy. The best nail salon in Whittier! I have been coming here for my nails and toes for 2 plus years since Tyn have taken new ownership. No other place compares with the attentive and friendly service that Tyn or should I say Mr./Sir NAILZ provides. The polish that he uses is gentle on my natural nails, the salon is super private (one on one feeling), and overall a positive and relaxing environment.
