My brother, who loves his cars like his baby, has been taking his car and my dad's three cars for…read morealmost a decade to this shop. Usually, they're easy and fast to schedule, park, and pay for any service, ranging from oil changes to repairs. I'm usually in and out within an hour because my parents are waiting in the lobby and get restless if they're seated too long. What's key for me is their expertise to inspect annually for any maintenance issues and troubleshoot the root causes that cause our car alarm to turn on randomly at night, a faulty transmission, etc. We've tried Honda dealers, but they usually upsell us or charge higher rates where the returns on investment don't support their surcharges. I realized that the staff here is likely too candid to know how to sweet talk customers and sugar coat any recommendations. They tried several times to dissuade my dad from fixing a 2001 Odyssey van because it wasn't worth the value of the car from two decades of depreciation with issues, ranging from air conditioning to a stolen catalytic converter when parked on the street in New York City. However, my dad insisted on repairing it because it was useful for transporting larger items, ranging from equipment to furniture. It's truly hard to find mechanics and a body shop you trust to bring your car and those of your loved ones. It helps that their crew (e.g., Ricky) can speak Chinese slowly and clearly to relate to my dad with his hearing impairments. Nobody's perfect in this imperfect world, so sometimes you need to take a leap of faith and find someone willing to work with you and relay all the info that you need to decide how to move forward or not with fixing your car. For me, it's better to hear the good, bad, and ugly truth than to not know the inside scoop for making a more informed decision, especially the tough ones.

To follow up, the brake line failed because they power braked it. They charged me $200 to replace…read moreit. I also realize now that when it failed, Dino should have admitted he broke the line because the system would have lost pressure and the pedal would have gone down to the floor. Instead he gave the car back to me with unsafe brakes. This could have lead to a dangerous situation. On another occasion, I had issue with the front end. There was a noise coming from the right front end. The mechanic gave me a cryptic message like nothing was wrong, but in the end, Dino told me I needed an end link. Not only did were the end links just 1 year earlier, they replaced the one on the left side. The noise was coming from the right. Go figure. John, the other boss, once snapped back at me because I simply asked if he would nstall my own part. He had a nasty look on his face. Not good customer relations. On another occasion, a customer was there because her CRV had a stripped oil drain plug. She always had her oil changed by them so the logical conclusion was one of their mechanics must have used a power tool on the plug which stripped the threads on the oil pan. This would be an expensive repair.

I've brought my fifth car to Jay and Steve. Some were used and some were new. Jay has been the most honest mechanic I ever met and he really does take care of you and your car. We bring our cars for an inspection and oil change whenever we can ( We moved so we live far from his business.) since he inspect the cars so I can fix it before it gets major issue. We tried to use someone local but they told me one thing when Jay told me what I really needed. I really value his honesty and his skill as a mechanic. Let me tell you that he might not be the most friendliest person at first but he is really nice person once you get to know him. I tried not to be biased but I guess I am since I drive an hour to bring my cars to him. I recommend him if you want a mechanic who is honest and good at what he does.

This year, they said I needed two new tires again in addition to a $500 brake fix. Everything would have cost approximately $1,000 so I just left. Today, I went to another repair shop where I paid $37 and passed my inspection. The other shop didn't notice any tire or brake problems. I drive about 4,000 miles a year locally. I never have any warning lights, engine check lights, or any other issues with my car. Beware if you go here and they tell you this and that needs to be replaced.
