My brother, who loves his cars like his baby, has been taking his car and my dad's three cars for almost a decade to this shop. Usually, they're easy and fast to schedule, park, and pay for any service, ranging from oil changes to repairs. I'm usually in and out within an hour because my parents are waiting in the lobby and get restless if they're seated too long. What's key for me is their expertise to inspect annually for any maintenance issues and troubleshoot the root causes that cause our car alarm to turn on randomly at night, a faulty transmission, etc. We've tried Honda dealers, but they usually upsell us or charge higher rates where the returns on investment don't support their surcharges. I realized that the staff here is likely too candid to know how to sweet talk customers and sugar coat any recommendations. They tried several times to dissuade my dad from fixing a 2001 Odyssey van because it wasn't worth the value of the car from two decades of depreciation with issues, ranging from air conditioning to a stolen catalytic converter when parked on the street in New York City. However, my dad insisted on repairing it because it was useful for transporting larger items, ranging from equipment to furniture. It's truly hard to find mechanics and a body shop you trust to bring your car and those of your loved ones. It helps that their crew (e.g., Ricky) can speak Chinese slowly and clearly to relate to my dad with his hearing impairments. Nobody's perfect in this imperfect world, so sometimes you need to take a leap of faith and find someone willing to work with you and relay all the info that you need to decide how to move forward or not with fixing your car. For me, it's better to hear the good, bad, and ugly truth than to not know the inside scoop for making a more informed decision, especially the tough ones. read more

Got recommended this spot for my alignment. Spoke over Instagram, got me a spot in the morning right away. I didn't have to wait or anything drove right in. They were very knowledgeable and I am no dummy. I know when the work is good. Wheel Alignments range from 100$ onwards but they are on the higher side but they do everything don't do a quick job. 8/28 came by to bring my Honda CR-V 2016 for an oil change, this is the first time i change the oil, as this car was purchased Jan 2020 with 29,000 miles. I am currently at 34888 miles, so i had the oil changed from regular oil to synthetic. Car is running very smooth, no complaints as I know I can trust Ricky & KC to take care of business with cars. The next time I come in will to bring my 2011 Acura MDX for an oil change as well as a thorough check up as that car is near 89k miles and If i am keeping it, there is a whole lotta maintenance that i will need to do to make sure it can go another 100k with no issues. read more

Last summer (i meant to post this review a while back...didn't realize it was in draft!), my car got scraped on the side by a sanitation truck on the road. Minor damages that doesn't affect functionality but definitely not pretty looking. My husband's cousin referred me to Tri Auto, highly recommended the body shop. Off I went, to get them check out the work. I spoke with Ricky (did not know he was the owner at the time) who was honest with me from the start, and told me exactly what needed to be done and straight up about the cost. I was particularly concerned about the mirror due to the sideview camera but he assured me that the damage should only be on the frame (which thankfully was). Because the accident involved the DOS, I needed to file a claim with NYC, which required multiple quotes from different shops, I ended up getting quotes from other shops too. Some of the shops were very very aggressive and quoted me much higher prices (I'm sure it has something to do with me being a woman AND pregnant), all the time promising that my mirror needed total replacement and any other place offering a lower price will do a shitty job. Well, I went with my instinct and trusted the recommendation. Happy to report that Tri Auto did an AMAZING job, ended up charging me less than the quote, and even happier to report that almost a year later, car still looks brand new! Thanks Ricky! I can't believe that in all the time I've been coming here I've never done a review for them. Since I've been introduced to Ricky and the team, I've been really happy with them. They're up - close and personal, great people. Last time I was here, I was here for hours. One of the guys actually shared his lunch with me! Today I'm back and Ricky tells me that I need to replace my front brake pads, but he reminds me that they're still on warranty. I don't like to pay a lot of money, but I'm not very good about keeping track of sales and deals and what's on warranty and what's not. This kind of thing goes a long way with me. The default is HONESTY. If you've got a faulty part, Ricky will be volunteer to bring you inside the shop and walk you under your car to show you what's wrong. This is the shop for me! read more

This shop is deceptive, I stopped by at this shop very first time, the owner Ricky Tsui was standing outside, I had no idea if he is the owner which I came to know later, I asked Ricky if he can give me "Rough Estimation" for my car accident. Ricky Said : "I can give you estimation but I am going to charge you as every other body shop charge for estimation!!!" ( Straight Lie ) After I told Ricky I have been to other body shop and they did not charge me then why you want to charge for rough estimation ? Ricky said : "I am charging because I am giving you my time!!! He made disrespectful face and walked away without saying a word" ( YES, that's how exactly he treated new customer!!! ) Ricky were you kidding me ? No respectable auto body shop charge for rough estimation, even if some body shop charge for paper estimation they first give option to customer if you want rough estimation or paper estimation, they don't right away try to fool new customer to pay for rough estimation, they talk with respect, value customer time and they don't walk away without saying a word like you walked away from me by making disrespectful face without saying a word. ( Seriously it was unbelievable act !!! ) You did not even care a new customer with car accident drove to your shop very first time, these are basic manners which you are lacking big time, you did not respect my time, on the top of it you tried to cheat and lied to me and never give me option between "rough estimation" and "paper estimation" but right away tried to fool me by charging for estimation with a lie. I had an issue that didn't need to be driven to diagnose. Regardless, the asian mechanic here took my car out for a drive. I honestly didn't know why we went for a car ride. Within a minute, he told me that my car also had another problem/safety issue. He pulled over in a remote area and said I have to give him a tip -- which I did to get my car back. There goes $10 just to get my car back. Anyway, I brought my car to my regular mechanic who put the car up on a lift to check on that "safety issue" -- there was NO problem with what the mechanic here indicated. NONE whatsoever. I wouldn't trust this mechanic with my car again. He also told me that his name wasn't the one on his shirt. I felt that he took me my car for a ride so that he could get a "tip" without being seen by the other mechanic. Also, the office itself had no one in it, and the mess there let me feel that the place was disorganized. Mechanic also said the owner charges DIFFERENT amounts for diagnoses/etc. Just got a bad feeling about the place. I'm not going back. I went because of the good reviews but was glad that I didn't get involved with them. read more

My side view mirror was broken off mysteriously and I needed a new one. Nothing major. First off, A&K is definitely not a chain auto shop like Meineke. But nothing wrong with that. They tried calling a bunch of places to get an after-market side view mirror which would be cheaper but unfortunately could not find one for my car. It ended up costing over $100 for the mirror plus $35 labor. Price was a little steep for a little mirror but they had it shipped to the shop the next day. I came in and they installed it within 30 minutes. I'd try them again but next time I'll do some research on the price of parts and maybe try to get it myself. They can speak Thai and I believe Chinese as well. read more

This shop is deceptive and tries to sell you parts you don't need to fix a problem you never had. As soon as I smelled something funny, I went to pick up my car. The owner, Ricky told me that my car was idling high and that I needed an idle air control valve... I just turned the idle down using the screw. The original problem I brought the car in for (a check engine light for EGR) wasn't fixed. In fact, there were several loose vacuum lines hanging in my engine bay. They just disconnected the battery to reset the light and told me it was fixed. After driving 11 miles, it came back on. They were stubborn about installing the parts that I wanted to install and charged me $127 to do absolutely nothing beyond a new inspection sticker. I don't trust this place at all. You shouldn't either. read more

Dropped my car off on a Thursday, got it back on the following Monday. Ricky was nice and accommodating, and his work turned out phenomenal! For my suspension issues, I needed a new strut, knuckle, and rim because I hit a huge pothole. After replacing those parts and getting an alignment, my car drives way smoother and better than before! Another great experience, one month later. My car suddenly wouldn't start. It wasn't the battery. I tested it out. Then we went here, by foot, and Art sent his mechanic, Jimmy, out with us. He checked out the car, made sure it wasn't the battery, and then he had an idea of what it could be, but we had to get the car to the shop! So far it had been stuck in the back driveway, behind a row of houses, and fairly tight quarters in terms of entering and exiting. I had no idea how I was going to get a tow truck out there. We went back together and discussed it with Art. He got on the phone almost immediately and called us a tow truck. We waited for 15 minutes, and I saw a small tow truck come in, not one of those huge ones with a huge flat bed, and I had the hope that it would fit in the back driveway. I rode with him, while my husband rode with Jimmy, and another mechanic, since they figured all of the men together would push the car out of the parking space. Five minutes later we get to the back driveway. The tow truck driver, Todd, reverses in; it's tight, but he decides he can make it. He manages to make the corner turn, and when we get to my car, he doesn't even bother to wait for anyone else. He pops it in neutral, starts pushing it out, back first, and then attaches it to the tow truck! I'm basically amazed as I watch this. By the time my husband and the mechanics come by, there's nothing left for them to do, but follow us back to AK Auto! Even with my Integra attached to it, he drove right out. Once back at the shop, we paid the guy while my Integra was moved into the garage and the guys were all clustered there having a look. One thing about this place is their customer service. There are no secrets. They invite you to come into the garage so they can explain exactly what they are doing, seeing it up front means we understand the process and don't feel as if there will be short cuts or tricks to get more money. Angel explained stuff to us, then Art explained again, and he wrote out in detail what he was going to do, including the price he would charge us. He even gave us two price options-- one for a quicker fix if we weren't planning on keeping the car too long, and another long term fix, which was more money. We agreed on the price. He estimated two hours. We called back in that time frame and it was ready. Walked back, and had our car all ready and waiting. Everyone is friendly, nice, smiles at you, talks to you, makes you feel as a person/customer, not someone that will just be "business". This is truly a "ma and pa" establishment. We tried tipping Art, but he refused and said he did nothing but order the parts. He told us to give it to Jimmy, who actually did the work! Now that's definitely a fair guy....and that action alone says a lot about how Art runs his business. Definitely go here. You won't regret it. read more
