Bonus points for being in Mount Washington, which allowed us to ride the Monongahela Incline up and the Duquesne Incline down. Yes it was a bit of a walk but Bigham Tavern was worth it! It was a Monday night, so there was also live music. Crowd was reasonable and we were seated at a comfortable table with a good view of the television. Our waitress was awesome, so patient! Her patience was tested because we don't drink much and wanted to order the food gradually throughout the game. We benefited from happy hour pricing for a tasty pickle dip and glasses of wine. We added some outstanding wings, so many great flavors to choose from! Next phase was an outstanding gluten free pesto and mozzarella pizza! Crust was too good to be true! The game was rough at first but turned around in time for me to order the Big Ham sandwich with a side of kale salad. The sandwich was delicious and served on a pretzel bun. The kale salad was an awesome side dish, tons of flavor! The game kept improving and we enjoyed the rest of it in the bar area with some great fans. Lots of televisions. Great neighborhood vibe! Will gladly return when we're back in town!

However, the current owners named it after its original name (Bigham Tavern) paying homage to its historical value on the Mount. The food is always good (if you like wings, they're known for them) and the brews are always cold. It's a true representation of a Pittsburgh neighborhood with its food, decor, and people. They host events like trivia nights and other things. TV screens for the big games. They do a great weekend brunch.

Went here on a recent trip to Pittsburgh. It was a pretty tough experience…read more Started with our server seating us and then explaining that they were out of a few things. Normally I'd say this isn't a big deal: two entrees and an appetizers. It happens. But the list continued to grow throughout the night (read on intrepid Yelper!). She left to grab some waters and came back about 15 minutes later. And then dashed off again. Finally put our orders in (was told then they were also out of some sodas and another appetizer, again it happens... but to this degree?) and waited for our drinks and food. And waited and waited and waited. Got our drinks 45 minutes after we sat down; importantly the place was not busy. During that time we were revisited once to be told they were out of another entree that some people had ordered. So some orders had to change. Appetizers took a full hour to show up. Entrees took another 30 minutes. Asked for some condiments - "we don't have that." Look, I get it restaurants have days when people call in or don't show up. Restaurants run out of stuff. But this was excessive. We were rarely checked on even to be given an ongoing apology just to let us know "hey I know this sucks, I recognize it and I'm sorry." We ran out of water (they bring a big bottle and you're on your own to refill it, and once that ran out we were just out of luck). If the food or drinks were really exceptional then some of this gets washed away. Unfortunately the food was just standard bar fare. It wasn't special. It was epically "serviceable." I do not recommend going. You're going to be far better off just taking the trolley back down and going somewhere else.

The Shiloh Gastro is known to be haunted. The paranormal activity in the building is often attributed to Kate. Patrons and staff have reported seeing the ghostly figure in a white gown. There has been other reported activity in the building, such as flickering lights, the smell of cigarette smoke (non-smoking building) and unexplained footsteps. Our group was there later in the evening and the only patrons seated on the upper level near the fireplace. We heard unexplained footsteps as no one else was upstairs or in the room with us. It did not scare us away, we knew the history. We did stay to enjoy the craft cocktails and mocktails. The menu included gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan fare which worked for everyone's needs in our group. Everything was delicious! *****The staff is exceptional!!***** They were attentive, knowledgeable and familiar with the history of the building. We will definitely be visiting the Shiloh Gastro again.

Examples of menu items are chicken and waffles, grits, sandwiches, salads, loaded fries, and wings. I was a customer here once for takeout. The restaurant has two floors--the first floor with a gorgeous library, which I think would be a great spot for kids to study and adults to work, and the second floor with a bar and party space for private events. One of the owners promptly greeted me, took my order and payment, and made pleasant conversation while I waited for my foods to be cooked. She showed me the cool lit-up selfie spot near the bathroom mirror and door. I ordered the Troomy Chicken Club (grilled chicken tenders, bacon, troomy sauce, mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, and onion) with a side of Loaded Fries and also six Whole Wings with my chosen flavor of parmesan. All three foods were very fresh and tasty very good, but I would recommend adding a bit more parmesan to the wings.

The pickle chips with Troomy sauce were perfectly crisp and flavorful, and the loaded fries were a perfect shareable appetizer. The Honey Nut Bacon Salad was another standout -- light, fresh, and full of flavor!
