Sometimes it can be very busy; the staff is well organized in multi tasking and the group works in harmony together rotating roles to handle an array of situations to keep things moving smoothly. Today as I sat down to donate, 2 seats down a gentleman had a seizure, he had a prior condition. I observed staff members respond in an expedited and calm manner to stabilize the gentleman until First responders arrived. Quality and compassionate care.

Each time has been pleasant and professional, regardless of how many people are there to donate. Today, I made an 11:15 appointment online the night before (and I was glad I did-- there were only two available appointment slots all day long!). I didn't do the Fast Pass question-and-answer preparation beforehand. I have in the past, but this time I didn't feel like getting out my laptop. This time, however, they told me it can now be done on an iPhone, which will be good to know for my next visit. I was the only one there when I arrived, and two phlebotomists were working. While Latoya was getting me prepped, though, three more donors came in. All were handled quickly and efficiently. I was in at 11:15 and out at 12:15. No pain, no problems, just a pleasant experience I'll be happy to repeat in 8 weeks. Thank you, American Red Cross!

Although they were short staffed, both him and his female co-worker did what they had to with a cheery attitude and making our donations feel more than worth it. I recommend giving here when you can. I began donating at this center early in 2019. From the beginning, the staff has all conducted themselves in a very professional manner, and donors have always been treated accordingly. I have had occasions in which I did have to wait a substantial length of time, but it was always because they were full, and never, in my experience, due in any way to failings by staff or any staff shortage. It has always been clear to me that the health and welfare of donors is a paramount concern. I have had nothing but positive experiences here.

A couple of weeks ago, I was told I needed to give a blood sample which I did. Then I received a letter from Biolife stating I could not donate because I had a STD. I called to get more information and was told they could not discuss my results over the phone. I went to the health department and took another blood test. Turns out the first test was a false positive. I never had the STD. Then I got a call from Biolife stating that I could donate again. The whole experience was unpleasant and stressful.

Moving from Austin I'm extremely disappointed with the availability of facilities here in town. My last home I could literally call and give the next day. My general gripe aside, I decided to travel a bit and visit The Blood Connection. Walking in, I found the people a sheer joy to be around. Course as a former comic, I lightened the mood and while they remained professional, made me feel at home. The goes for everyone, the receptionist, the "supervisor (sorry Brendan I think that's what you are)," the vital nurse and the "poker Alyssa" as sticker doesn't work for obvious reasons. The next thing you'll note this is an extremely clean facility which I can appreciate (ahem....not mentioning their plasma competition). I love the question all blood places ask "which arm would you like?" To which I always reply whatever is easiest for you! Unlike the other place, these people hit my vein second try (not their fault as my veins are deep and roll). I can appreciate them hitting it very quickly and relatively painless. I'd say the whole process was maybe 45 minutes? Hard to say as they said I was flowing good (to which I started wrapping) but running my mouth. I did hydrate so that helps out a lot. We wrapped up relatively quick and I got some snacks then hit the road. I was impressed with the staff and sterile environment to which I didn't have to linger about. I highly advise dropping by if you need to give blood. To which I'll end, please give it could save a life.

The pros include helping create medications, payment for donation ($50-75 depending on which number visit you are on) and friendly staff. I'm a hard stick and the staff listened when I recommended a vein and got it on the first time. The screening process seems picky enough to know they don't take useless plasma. The cons include a very long first time donor process. I was there just over 3 hours the first time. The wait times are also long on a regular day. I tried to go a second time (you have to donate twice in order for medication to be made out of it), but was turned down because my temp was too high. I waited more than 30 min just to be screened before getting set up in the donation area.
