Vegans, vegetarians, omnivores, gluten-free peoples, lactose intolerant, picky eaters, rejoice! You get where I'm going here. I think anyone could find a delicious meal on this menu. Plus the specials. Yum, those specials...always making choices so difficult. Every time I get the urge to move to San Francisco, I can usually satisfy myself with a trip to One World. If you live in Hampden, you can make believe you are cutting through Golden Gate park (Wyman in this case) to get to a yummy veg-friendly juice bar/restaurant where you won't get the "huh?" look when you ask for soy milk. Rather, they'll ask if you want almond or hemp milk instead! Glorious. If you've read my previous reviews, you'll know I'm a sucker for brunch, which is what I nearly always get. BUT- they have yummy lunch and dinner here too. Everything involving portobello mushrooms and eggplant is good. And don't fear the fake meat, people! They have the best ketchup in town. I have tried ketchup EVERYWHERE, so I know what I am talking about. What makes it so special is how cold it is! I don't know what kind of vegan magic they use to make their ketchup so good and so COLD but wow-ee zow-ee it sure is chilled. I eat fries there and they were good, but what made it real good is their cold cold ketchup. All the food there is good, but the ketchup is even better. I have a habit of dropping into this place every few years. I'm not sure I will keep the habit. It seems kind of overrated for what you get. This place was full! There was no shortage of customers. Everyone seemed to be sitting around having a good time. The cashier was nice and polite. She inform dmd it wold be a 15-20 minute wait, but the wait really turned into 35 minutes. Now, I wasn't too picky about this but when I got my food I was a bit more confused. I ordered the steamed vegetables and ginger baked tofu. The menu made it sound great. What I got was not so amazing. it was literally half a bag of overly-steamed vegetables, a slab of slightly-warmed tofu ,and a spoonful of miso-ginger dressing, all floating in steamy murky water. It was the strangest most unappetizing thing I've had in awhile. If all they were serving was microwaved veggies and tofu why did it take so long? Not sure its worth the hype. I've been here a few times now and I've yet to be disappointed. Today I tried their Philly Cheese "Steak Less" with vegan cheese in place of regular cheese. It was AMAZING! I haven't had a Philly cheese steak in YEARS and it was heaven. I also like how the serve their sandwiches with chips and salsa instead of fries. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy fries, but with the sub roll and the amount of food piled high in the sandwich, I would have ended up not even touching my fries and throwing them away. They offer french fries as a side/app for those who like fries with their sandwiches and i'm sure you could ask to sub them. The only negative thing I have to say was their cake was awful! I ordered a piece of their vegan chocolate chip cake with chocolate frosting and it tasted like it was sitting in the display case for days! It was so, so dry that I ended up throwing it away after 1 bite :( I was looking forward to trying their baked goods and I'm unsure if i'd try them again, at least the cakes. Great for vegans and vegetarians, but for some reason, One World follows in the line of slow service at vegan-friendly & raw food establishments. Why is that? I am addicted to their peanut butter smoothies, and the eggplant gyro on the last trip was impressive. I don't recommend their uninspired quesadilla. This review is not for a vegetarian restaurant not because this isn't a vegetarian restaurant because it is (and a good one) but because when I walked in I didn't know it was a vegetarian restaurant. My friend was hungry and she suggested we stop here. After reviewing the menu, it hit me. There's no meat here!! OK, but there was fish. So I tried the Grilled Tuna Steak sandwich. Niiice. Made perfectly, just the way I ordered it and delicious. While my friend had a Black Bean Burrito. I guessed she enjoyed it because it was gone pretty fast. Can you say wolfed it down!! My only complaint was the freshly made juices. I had a carrot with ginger and beets while my friend had just carrot. They were good but came in too small of a size for the price. I work right across the street from One World, so it is my go-to place on days when I forget my lunch. I'm not a vegetarian, but there are a lot of options on the menu, and they do serve tuna. My favorite items are the Hummus Sandwich, OWC wrap, and the black bean burrito. I haven't tried any of the items with fake meat because I admittedly have texture issues and fake meat scares me, lol. I'm only giving One World three stars because sometimes it can be hit or miss. 99.9% of the time I get my food to-go, and a few times they've forgotten to tell me my food was ready. I understand (well hope) it's not intentional, but it's very annoying to waste most of my lunch break sitting and waiting for my food (that's been ready for some time). It happened to me yesterday, and all I had ordered was a cup of soup and a greek salad. Those items don't take a lot of time to prepare. I try to be understanding, but there's only so much I can take before I get really annoyed. Overall, One World has decent food, but don't go there expecting stellar service. Like a previous reviewer said, the staff can be spacey, and I personally don't like going to places where I have to remind the staff of my presence. read more

Had a gig that put me a couple blocks away from One World for three days and went for dinner each night. My wife joined me on the last visit. We ended up trying a decent amount of the vegan options. The atmosphere is cool, nice beer selection, with Peak Organic, Yards, etc on tap, and any place that's all veg with a decent amount of labeled vegan options gets points in my book. Seems to be popular for coffee as well with a dedicated spot for that in the front and it looks to be popular with Hopkins students. Sadly, the food is not great. Keeping it inexpensive for the college kids is fine, great even, but inexpensive does NOT equal boring or average. This place has mad potential because they have a great location near a college in a nice part of Baltimore, and because they're already onboard with being veg and vegan. Healthier for people and the planet is not going away anytime soon - this market keeps growing. If the food was creative and really good this place could be a food destination worth traveling for! Please, please, bring in a chef that can do that! Plenty of bars serve up creative and delicious vegan food (one of the best being Memphis Taproom in Philly, off the top of my head and they're not even full veg). In comparison to them for example, One World, well... they unfortunately just don't compare with vegan food. The vegan club sandwich was the best vegan item that I tried, but nothing spectacular. As for their 'famous' chili - honestly I've had better from a can (Amy's brand). The entrées we tried missed the mark, and somehow even the appetizer and dessert that we had also disappointed. My husband and I (both vegetarians) met another couple (non-vegetarians) here for brunch on a recent Sunday morning. I was expecting a cramped, grungy college hangout, but in fact the dining area is spacious and lively, and there was a diverse clientele. The meal received praise from all. I have a particularly weak spot for burritos, and the breakfast burrito at One World Cafe is gigantic and delicious. I like walking away from brunch thinking that I had the best meal of any of my dining companions, and that was certainly the case. We live in DC and trekked all the way to Baltimore for the pleasure of ordering brunch off a menu from which we could actually eat everything. It was completely worth it. read more

One World is one of my favorite vegetarian restaurants in Baltimore. I've been a vegetarian for over seven years, so this place was great to have nearby. It's quick, convenient, and the food is always great. One of my favorite combinations is the chili and baked fries (points for the oxymoron) with Old Bay seasoning. Great separately and together. The chili is made with brown rice, kidney beans, and lots of veggies. It's not too spicy either, which is a plus for me because I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy food. Another favorite is the baked tofu with brown rice and veggies. Their breakfast is one of the best things about this place -- they have a ton of options and always have weekend brunch specials (and they serve all-day breakfast on Sundays!) My die-hard-carnivore dad always requests a breakfast trip to this place when he visits. His favorite: the buttermilk pancakes with fresh fruit and a giant cappuccino. I love the tofu scramble burrito with salsa and the vegan blue corn pancakes with fruit. Another point to mention about One World is their desserts. They always have a bakery case freshly stocked with house-made desserts, including lots of vegan options. I have a weakness for vegan desserts, particularly their vegan carrot cake cupcakes. Occasionally they have a chai spice cake that's incredible, but they don't seem to make it very often. I'd also recommend the chai lattes and hard apple cider at the bar. They carry Magner's Irish cider, which can be extremely hard to find. Every Wednesday they have happy hour specials on food and liquor -- not the cheapest happy hour in town but it's always fun and relaxing. In the four years that I lived in Baltimore, I probably ate about 85% of the food on their menu. The funny part? I now live across the country and still crave their food. read more

As a Hopkins student and a vegan, I have gone to One World a lot over the past few years. It is wonderful to have a restaurant geared specifically toward my diet so close to campus, but I wish that the quality of both the food and the wait staff did not fluctuate as much. The food is usually good, but sometimes it is really lacking in flavor and texture. The service is generally slow and poor, and it seems like if you aren't a tattooed hipster the wait staff isn't very nice to you. But as long as you don't mind waiting a little longer to be served, it's not that bad. On the positive side, their soups (regardless of the rest of the food) are always amazing. And they have a good amount of beers on tap - and they are very cheap, especially during happy hour! Their prices are fair, and the portions are large. I still go there at least every month, and it is worth the occasional blah food and standoffish wait staff to have a vegetarian/vegan restaurant just a few blocks away. Oh, and their brunch is spectacular. Especially their pancakes and the tofu scramble! read more

Okay- I am not a vegan nor do I ever plan to be, but One World Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants in Charles Village. Definitely try their cupcakes; you won't even notice that they are vegan. My roommate (a vegan) got the chocolate cake and it was absolutely delicious. The "Not Dog" is really good for fake meat and the chili on the side is really good. I really liked the sandwiches I've tried- they are all very delicious. Service is great- they notice when you need water and the food came out really quickly! They are also really friendly and joked around with us. read more

One World has a cute set-up, and is a great place to meet friends or go on a date. I have only ever been to One World for coffee, but the past few times I've been there the baristas have been surly, and they've advertised a variety of plant-based milks (hemp, almond, rice, soy) and only had soy - and I choose to go to One World over Starbucks specifically because they have other non-soy plant based milks. The parking situation isn't great unless you go at an off-time. read more

One world is a very sound (mostly) vegetarian joint right off Hopkin's main drag - conveniently located right across from the Lacrosse Hall of Fame! The beer choices are surprisingly inspired for a cafe, and the food is good-to-great. I highly recommend exploring the Tex-Mex inspired offerings. The chips, enchiladas, and Mexican Tofu scrambles are all on point, as are their veggie burgers. I've gotten burned a time or two straying from the go-to's, but such is the nature of restaurants. We love this place. I could probably eat here every day of my life and never get bored. I have probably tried eight dishes (at least) from these guys and nothing has ever, EVER been a disappointment. The vegan version of the meatball sub is what I usually crave and it's always consistently awesome every time. If it weren't for One World, I don't know what I would've done my 4 years of college. As a vegetarian college student in Baltimore, it's tough. There aren't that many options around. One World however is the gleaming beacon. It's got a great vibe--chill coffee house with some pretty good food and an interesting mix of people. Not every dish is a winner, but this place deserves 5 stars just because of the huge selection of delicious options, whether for breakfast, lunch, dinner, late night snacks or happy hour. I HIGHLY recommend the nachos and going for brunch (their brunch specials are always fantastic!) They also have a great beer selection and their vegan baked goods are terrific, especially the cupcakes. They also do a mean fresh fruit smoothie. This is a great place to stop by and have a great meal or to linger over their bottomless coffee cup (they make a great brew, I'm a fan of the Velvet Hammer). They have free Wi-Fi and NEVER kick you out. One World is like my second home kitchen (my mom jokes and calls it my "cafeteria). I highly recommend you check this place out. read more

I am neither vegan or vegetarian, and I love One World Cafe! It's one of my favorite places to eat in Baltimore. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, and the staff is friendly, casual and amenable. The food, however, is why I go. The tofu scramble breakfast burrito, meatball sub, chili and soups are just some of my favorites. The everyday menu is wonderfully full, but the specials are especially creative, ample and delicious! If the one world that this cafe is looking for has food as bland as what they serve, it's not a world that I want to live in! Don't get me wrong. Once I smothered my veggie breakfast burrito in the hot sauce the cafe included on the side, it was pretty tasty. Although it brought out the taste of the vegetables more than the eggs (which I had to keep checking were inside each bite). The burrito was pretty large (I only wish it came with a side) and I liked that they'd make it either vegetarian or vegan. Plus the size of the menu was impressive so I'm sure other options are probably better. Still, on the Sunday around noon that I visited, this place was loud (even for brunch). But the wait to be seated was short and they do have ample seating for the crowds. My big problem was the server was nowhere to be found a lot of the time we were there. A lot of the staff actually seemed to congregate at the front of the restaurant as well instead of doing rounds of the incredibly busy tables. As far as it goes as a cafe, I could see myself enjoying the place on a weekday afternoon (I mean, they didn't mess up my tea). But as far as it goes for brunch, I would not call this an ideal place for brunching herbivores. read more

It's a great place for ambiance but parking is a nightmare. Stop in and check it out its one of those places that you're glad is in existence even if you don't go there often. I'm vegetarian and just tried this place this weekend because my fave cafe in B-more (Liquid Earth) doesn't do brunch, and it's not officially Sunday without brunch! It was EXCELLENT and I'm glad I was forced to try a new place. I got the Tex Mex Burrito (with fake sausage and guac) and it was scrumptious. I paired it with an iced coffee with a shot of hazelnut syrup in it. My friend got the salmon omelet - I didn't try it, but it looked really good and he liked it. He was hungry so he also got some veg chili (which he was too full to eat after his omelet). I sampled it and wasn't crazy about it - but I'm a chili snob. It was a little too tomato-y for me. His cafe con leche was perfect. We sat at the bar. Service was nice, helpful, attendant, and quick. Definitely going back when I'm in B-more again! read more

I don't like One World Cafe. My beef with them isn't an omnivore's lack of beef or that I don't like being around college students. My beef with them is mostly that I feel like I've been cheated by them. A lot of the menu has reasonable portion sizes for not too much money, but sometimes they charge you out the butthole for a whisp of food. Last time I went, they had a "Samosa platter" on the Entrees section of the specials menu for seven bones. When the food came, I had two flat samosa like things that were about as big as my thumb. I could ignore that they didn't hold together so dipping them in the sauce was impossible without them falling apart, if I actually got what the menu implied: a small meal. It was even tiny for an appetizer. The falafel platter is much the same. It costs a dollar more and has a similar delivery. The food is good, there just isn't enough of it, especially for how much it costs. I can go to an Indian restaurant and get two samosas that are three or more times larger than the ones I got at One World for half the price. There have also been service issues like taking forever to bring drinks, bringing the wrong order or even once charging my card for twenty dollars extra and then claiming they couldn't void the charge. I'm pretty easy going when it comes to restaurants. I try to be easy for waitstaff to deal with, I'm patient with wait times and I'm not usually fussy about portion sizes. A lot of the food here is actually pretty good, you just have to have the menu memorized so you know what's going to be a good size meal and what's throwing your money away. Not cool brah. read more

Delicious huevos rancheros and a good cup of coffee. My brother let me take a bite of his egg sandwich (with broccoli, which surprisingly worked well) on a croissant. It was fresh and really tasty. The next day we stopped for coffee and and a bagel. The toasted everything bagel with cream cheese was also really good. If I wasn't just visiting him at Johns Hopkins, but living near there, I would be a regular, for sure. read more

I love this place because of the friendly service here. I came and wasn't 100% sure of what my sister had told me to order her and they waited patiently while I tried to remember. The soy latte i got was delicious and had just the right amount of espresso in it, and the granola bowl with soy yogurt was pretty tasty. I also got an orange juice and a water, while the person at the counter let me know I could save $2 by getting the OJ they sell in the fridges by the counter. The one they sell from behind the counter isn't fresh squeezed, as I thought it was, and I thought it was super nice of him to let me know that! I have been here only once for a late evening supper, and it was very good. Located right across the Johns Hopkins campus, it is probably one of the establishments that brings some sort of life to the immediate vicinity. The place was full of people having a good time, and as such was on the noisier side of the loudness scale. Even then, it felt like a good place to enjoy their famous teas, eat salad, and have one of the numerous all-vegetarian/vegan options on the menu. Food was really good. The service was average, but not bad. It might be just that the cafe was busier than normal. I thought food was a bit pricy, but I can't really complain, as it's very difficult to find so many vegetarian options at one place. The food is not much to write home about, but the chai tea here is extraordinary. Light, flavorful, and not overpoweringly sweet, it tastes homemade. It is also cheaper than other places: $2.80 and $3.20 for a medium and large, respectively. One World Cafe also has a delightful raspberry drip coffee. Come here on Tuesday evenings for 1/2 price quesadilla and burrito nights. They are not outstanding, but they come out to be only ~$4 each. Your wallet will thank you later! read more

One World is solid. The food is good (not great, but good). The price is right and the atmosphere is wonderfully casual. You always feel welcome when you walk in here. I like a place that feels like an extension of my living room - that's One World. Atmosphere Cozy and warm. Casual. Food The food is hit or miss. I've had delicious soups (the black bean is awesome) and other meals. The hummus plate is bad, and the nachos are basic. It requires a little experimenting, because you can get a bad meal. It's pretty good for the price, though. Service The service is definitely casual. Don't expect to be waited on hand and foot. If you are from Chicago and you think The Diner is all that, guess again. This place rocks - totally. Tofu Meatball Sub, Quesadillas, everything without the grease and heavy feeling afterwards. The only drawbacks for me: very dark inside which always makes me think of those night clubs that seem awesome at 2 am because they are dark, but head there at 2pm with the lights on and you get scared at how dirty they are. Biggest let down: for a place that plasters on the menu how they serve low fat, high protein good for you food it is a shame that at 10pm they allow smoking at the bar (with no ventilation system). We had to take our stuff to go because one bimbo decided to light up, come on - the cool kids aren't smoking anymore. Their baked goods lacked sweetness - I had the brownie - didn't eat the second or half of the first that I bought for the ride home because it was crumbly and not sweet. Blueberry muffin didn't have the delicious crumby sugary muffin top of crispyness, and the cornbread was a disaster - but I normally shy away from cornbread. Other than that - everything else is stellar. Absolutely delicious, the servers are very nice and they have a great selection - even a kids menu. VERY Reasonable compared to out here. read more

This was a hard fought struggle between 4 and 3 ... and 3 Stars won, for now. Great service, variety of veggie choices, but NONE of the food we tried stood out. Bland, meh and average at best, the kind that would earn a Mexican, Thai etc place a sub-two star rating. The only admittedly, hugely nice things about OnE World Cafe, that don't combine to push this review to the 4-Star level - - Open late, good service, decent coffee/beverages - Variety of experimental and mainstay veggie options, so if your group can't pick between the plethora of good Thai, Indian, Mexican etc cuisine options elsewhere, bring them here for a something-for-everything experience.
