Down three full stars. Horrendous service, ruining an otherwise wonderful venue. For what it's worth, service is the least of my worries when eating at a place where I know the food will be good. As usual, the food was perfect here tonight, but we only got part of what we ordered and were forced to buy what they failed to deliver to the table. Long story short, our order was taken and halfway through our meal we remembered we never got my soup or his salad. We mentioned it to the waitress when the check was served up, since she was nowhere to be found beforehand, and get this -- she first challenged us, thank you very much, as though we would lie over something so trivial. Basically insinuated we lied about this! You'd think the absence of a soup bowl and salad plate on our table would be proof enough, but honestly, whatever.... We were then told she'd box them up for us and we could take it away -- absolutely resisted just taking them off the bill -- so basically we got stuck with take-out that we would just throw away anyway. I'm stunned. I guess my review now is "food is reliably delicious and well prepared -- but just watch the lazy staff like a hawk." Judge for yourself what you think of this experience and decide where not to eat accordingly. Such a shame. read more

A waitress comes to my table and pours the refill on my soda from a drinking glass rather than a soda dispenser. I'm a bit concerned and ask if this is from somebodies unused drink? I mean, its odd. The waitress places her hand on her hip and gives me the "I've been waitressing 28 years and..." blah blah blah. I tell her to spare me the speech, she walks away angered, returns, dumps the bill on the table without further word, doesn't ask me if I need anything, just leaves it, turns around and walks away. I notice she is saving herself a trip to the fountain using the same glass to refill other peoples drinks - no no NO! Totally unprofessional. I've worked in the food industry, and you simply explain your action in a friendly manner - no matter how personally affronted you feel. Professionalism needed. Park your ego at the door. read more

My husband and I had Thanksgiving dinner here today and sadly it was the worst Thanksgiving dinner either of us have ever had in our lives. We couldn't even begin to describe the dressing, we have no clue what was in it other than the raisins. My husband can usually eat just about anything but he couldn't eat the dressing at all. The salad was literally from a bag with absolutely nothing added to dress it up or make it better in any way. For $24.00 each we got a very plain salad, some turkey, inedible dressing, corn, and some not very good cranberry sauce. We didn't get any dinner rolls, croutons or flavor with our disappointing dinner. read more

The location isn't the greatest, but it's usually clean on the inside and out. There's normally at least a few parking spots, so it shouldn't take too long to get a spot. Inside has a old diner feel to it, like 50's style. The service is excellent. The ladies are efficient and always offer alternatives to make sure you get the best price. The food isn't anything spectacular, but it's good. All in all, it's a great place to eat for breakfast or lunch. You can't go wrong with good food and good service! read more

When we arrived, the host was alarmed we had a dog and the sign said they served breakfast all day. When my wife complained the manager was rude, obstinate, condescending, unprofessional, and mean. Never go here! I would write about the food but we had no opportunity to try it since they gave wrong info about this place when we called! As a sorry for our trouble, maybe a parting gift. Met and exceeded our expectations, the service was quick from the moment we walked in which was NOT a busy night. We all ordered and it did not take long for food to arrive. I noticed that the French Fries tasted "blah" and when the waitress came over she commented on how great the fries tasted "without any salt or spice or anything!" Been a few times and have had good experiences, but the latest time I was a bit disappointed. We had ordered the homemade hash skillet listed at $16.95 on the menu. The server did tell us at that point it was a canned hash as they stopped making it homemade. That was our first disappointment, then when the "skillet" came it was a small bowl with mushy hash and eggs. That was it, for the price point it was completely underwhelming. One Twelfth used to be a great place to eat. It's now lost it's quality. Very little meat in the omelettes and toast burnt. would not mind paying the higher prices but when quality suffers it's an insult. The restaurant is pretty clean except stained carpets, desert display, windows and doors could use a good cleaning. Ladies room broken dirty tile needs an update. My wife had the Chicken Cobb Salad and I had a BLT sandwich. We also had two cups of coffee (poor quality). The service was not as good as it has been in the past. I came here for breakfast with my mother, on her recommendation, on a snowy Saturday morning. We were out tree shopping and preparing for the upcoming family holiday dinner, and were in need of some good, HOT food to fuel us on our journey. Notice I said HOT. We ordered two coffees, as well as ham benedict and a house omelet with sourdough toast. The coffee was great, piping hot and came with both half-and-half and French Vanilla creamer. The food didn't fare so well. The diner didn't appear to be so incredibly busy, so my mother (who once served as a waitress at the Space Needle some time ago) and I both wondered why it was taking some time for our food to come out of the kitchen. When it did, she dug into hers with little issue. Mine on the other hand left little to be desired. My coffee was hotter than my omelet. The quarter slice of cheese laying on the top of the omelet (reputed to be Havarti) was sweaty and barely melted, left laying on top like some tourist on a sandy foreign beach. I easily peeled it off and flopped it on the edge of my plate (which felt as though it was almost the same temperature as the ground outside... where the snow was sticking). I always eat my omelets from the end first (I've found sticks and things in them before... long story), and was rather disappointed to find the temperature to be almost cold. As I moved towards the middle (where the cheese should have been the temperature of "liquid hot magma"), I found that it was no better, and the eggs began taking on the mouthfeel of those that had been microwaved at least once. I moved on to the hashbrowns, hoping the breakfast could be saved by their crunchy golden goodness. Disappointment abounded. While there was some good crunch, it was only on the surface. Below that, there was a tepid greasy sogginess I could not get around, no matter how much ketchup I utilized. Strike two. Now for the sourdough toast. While haphazardly "cut", it had great flavor and crunch, and the tiny packets of Marionberry and Strawberry freezer jam that accompanied were jam packed full of flavor, enough to rival homemade batches of the same. THOSE I was impressed by. When I expressed my disappointment to the waitress, the meal was removed from the bill. I was informed that the cheese on the top was not supposed to be melted completely (ew), to which I stated "What's the point of it, then?" She asked what could be done to fix the issue, like microwaving the remains... (My response: "Nothing can fix it. This cannot be fixed, you can't microwave these eggs anymore.") It wasn't until my mother and I returned home that my mother stated that - to make things right - the meal could have been prepared properly (warm plate, proper omelet preparation and temperature, melted cheese, crispy hashbrowns, etc.). She's correct, absolutely correct. My mother enjoys eating at this diner, mostly because she enjoys the nostalgia. Nostalgia or not, I prefer good, HOT food. read more

Cute place. Done 50's soda shop/diner style. Nice menu full of many choices. Breakfast all day. Hashed browns done perfectly! The spousal unit had a turkey sand with lots of the stuff removed because of her tummy probs and they did that with out missing a beat. I found the reviews on this diner here and decided to drag the wife out for a late breakfast on Monday. It was Labor Day, after all, and what better way to celebrate it than by not doing anything for ourselves - including making breakfast. When used to the more confined, home-feeling of a Maltby Cafe, the inside of the 112th St. Diner can almost be described as cavernous. This is a large place. And not just in terms of capacity, but it's a very large room. I only include this because I found myself staring up thinking, "Wow. That ceiling is up there." There's no value in this particular part of the review. We were seated quickly, and drink orders were taken within a minute. By the time the drinks were brought to our table, we were ready and able to order. What I appreciated about the menu was that it wasn't too "busy." There were a fair number of choices in each section (omelettes, breakfasts, other, etc.) but not too many. Menu brain freeze can be problematic at breakfast places, and compounded by the fact that you're often very hungry as this is your first meal of the day. This is a common affliction my wife suffers, and I was pleasantly surprised she was able to order quickly and there was no loss of life. Food took a little longer to come out, but this was attributed to the volume of people being served at the restaurant. The waitresses were moving at a brisk pace. When the food came out, I was pleasantly surprised. The portions were generous but not obscene - Seattle-area breakfasts seem to err on either too large of portions or too small of portions. These portions were people sized (and by people sized I don't mean American sized. That's why we have XXL, and seriously put the fork down.) The food didn't hit Maltby-level awe, but was easily as good as Patty's Eggnest. Overall our waitress was extremely pleasant and helpful. We received our bill only after it was clear we were finished eating. You take your ticket and pay at the counter, giving the waitresses the ability to focus on serving and not being cashiers. Overall a good experience and we will be going back for our next breakfast to make sure this wasn't a fluke. read more

I have been wanting to go here for weekend breakfast for quite some time, but when I finally decided to go...I went for dinner....and I still ate breakfast food...... I ordered: a side of bacon, a side of hash browns, and their Monte Cristo sandwich. Oh and with the sandwich I got a caesar salad. Ok not all breakfast food but good enough. Bacon was THICK, which was great because I felt like I was getting some good protein and it didn't just disappear in my mouth like some crispy, thin bacon strips from other joints do. It was my first time trying their Monte Cristo or any Monte Cristo for that matter, and man, I am craving it TO.THIS.DAY. Grilled, warm, but soft and fluffy french toast bread with cheese, ham, and turkey sandwiched in between two slices of that orgasmic bread...then sprinkled with some powdered sugar. Dip that bad boy into some maple syrup and you've got a salty sweet gift straight from heaven. UGH! how do people come up with this stuff? Friend ordered: pancakes, bacon, eggs, and a side of biscuits with sausage gravy. Ok..so...even though I was in love with my meal, I could not get over how tasty her meal was either. The pancakes were so fluffy but thick at the same time. The biscuits were soft and the sausage gravy was ON POINT. Service and ambience/environment were what was expected of a diner. Clean and bright restaurant with an overflow of senior citizens sitting around us, and friendly but not spectacular service. the place was nothing fancy schmancy...but definitely an upgrade from Denny's. I hate to leave this place a bad review since in the past I came here fairly often and had many good experiences! However, today was different... Our waitress was great, but my food came out luke warm and bland.. It came to a little over 30 dollars for two sandwiches and a hot tea (which I think is over priced given the area). BUT HERE IS THE REAL KICKER: I went to the front to pay and there was an issue with the system as no one's card (including my own) was working. I never carry cash on me. The woman at the register's response? "Oh just go to an atm at the bar across, come back and pay." The place did not look open and my bank was not close by.. so I used the bank around the corner and got charged a fee from both banks. I came back and was ignored as the woman in the front was on the phone (finally addressing the problem I can at least hope) and just motioned me to hand her the cash. She said nothing to me till I spoke up about my annoyances with the fees hoping I'd maybe be reimbursed the charges because of the hassle. All she said was "Yeah sorry" I understand system errors, but come on. The rudeness and poor customer service? SHE SHOULD HAVE JUST BEEN HAPPY I CAME BACK TO PAY. Will not be returning. read more

My friend and I were craving some good ol ma and pa diner food, so we ended up at this Diner. I loved the interior, and the decor on the wall was awesome - my favorite is the Audrey Hepburn Holly Golightly picture. The hostess was super friendly with a touch of sarcastic wit - something that I greatly respect in a human being. The place was clean and inviting. I thought the prices were a bit steep for what you get there. I ordered the Monty Cristo sandwich (my all-time favorite sandwich), which I always try to order whenever it's served. I have a particular way that I prefer it served, which not all restaurants do - I like when the sandwich is completely covered in the egg batter and fried on all possible edges and sides - they didn't do this here. That was okay, but the issue was how small the sandwich was in size for the price. I ordered it with lemon chicken soup, which I feel was a mistake. The soup was very bland and I didn't taste even a tiny bit of lemon in it. After I squeezed some of my iced tea lemon and added some salt, it almost had flavor. My friend ordered biscuits and gravy, which had excellent gravy, but the rest was just okay - and the eggs were too runny for over-medium. As a result, the quality of the food lost a star for this place. In addition, our waitress wasn't quite rude, but she wasn't very friendly, either. She was inattentive and we felt like we were wasting her time by making her do what she's paid for - but what was most frustrating was how she just took so long to do anything like serve us our food or give us our check. I can handle subpar food if the service is good, and the food we ate on this particular day was subpar at best and the service was much less than subpar. I think we may give this place another chance just because it's so hard to find many places like this and maybe they were just having an off day. My boyfriend and I came in for dinner and it was our first time eating here. The food here is mediocre at its best. I was coming down from a bad experience at a previous place we had eaten days before, and figured eating something light would be the smart thing to do. Before my main dish came out, even the salad I chose to get beforehand wasn't the best. It looked like the bagged salad you could buy from Safeway slathered in a pool of dressing. I was immediately unimpressed with it, especially since they already charge $11 for a salad by itself. If they're pricing a salad like the one I had for that much, don't bother. Our waitress wasn't the best. She checked in on us once, and that was when we were ready to order. When our food came out, I ordered the Pasta Alfredo with Chicken which came with buttered garlic bread that came from the frozen food aisle of Safeway. My boyfriend ordered Grilled Cheese as well as an order of fries. Something that really struck us was the fact that he was charged $4.00 for the order of fries. The menu stated that it's only $1.00 extra for an order of fries if you get Grilled Cheese, which our waitress did not point out. So we were a little bummed out about that. My pasta was ok, not the best, but just ok. It didn't seem like whoever made my dish seemed to care about the preparation, because it was bland. There was nothing special about it. I felt as if I was eating cardboard. It was literally pasta and Alfredo sauce. Even the chicken didn't spice up my dish, which was disappointing. My boyfriend, on the other hand, had the same experience with his Grilled Cheese and fries. There was nothing special about either of them. The only upside to our experience was the fact that I apparently got free ice cream with my order. But we had a feeling that the only reason why I got the free ice cream was because we weren't very upbeat when our waitress came with our check and asked us if our meal was good. read more

This place served me tainted food for dinner and after I became violently ill in the middle of the night, they refused to do anything about it... Saying condescending things like "well no one else got sick" and "sometimes if you go for a while without eating you get sick"... I would not eat here again if I was starving to death. This place was OK from a quality and service perspective but it didn't really have those giant diner-size portions that you get when you're on the east coast where diner food is a lot more prevalent. Honestly I was shocked, we've been here before except that was for dinner. We came in today at noon for a late breakfast and the service was super slow. Nothing felt right about the visit. The hot chocolate was metallic, the cinnamon roll wasn't as big as pictured in the case and it was flaky - like a couple days old. :( The server had blonde hair and wasn't very attentive... I don't remember her name unfortunately. It took us an hour to get through our food and we ended up waiting at the front to pay our bill.. We won't be returning. The atmosphere: When I first entered the 112th street diner I found it inviting. The place has an open feel and kept very clean. Even with an open dining area the sound level was surprisingly low. The Service: The hostess and waitress that served my wife and I where very pleasant and friendly. The Waitress also was very prompt at bringing us our drinks and refills. The food: My wife and I both had Steak and Penne with a cup of clam chowder. The clam chowder was seasoned to my liking, but was lacking in substance. Also the clam chowder had chunks of seasoning that overall was something I could deal with it will just cost them a 1 star in this review. The Steak and Penne my wife just loved everything about it. I on the other hand didn't prefer the combination. Don't get me wrong the pasta and the steak where cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for I just didn't like the charcoal flavor of the steak with the sauce. To me it would have been better to not charbroil the stake. Conclusion: My wife and I had a very pleasant experience, great service and great food. read more

I have to admit, I've eaten here quite a few times, but then my boyfriend and I work nearby. That being the case, we've had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. To date we haven't ever had issues with the food. I'm a huge fan of their monte cristo and their fries are fantastic - not too crispy and definitely not soggy. I enjoy the clam chowder too. We have had a couple servers who've been rude or tend to forget you if you're dining in and occasionally the owner is a bit waspish, but for the most part the staff is friendly and attentive. You're greeted and seated in a timely manner. When I call in an order to-go (which is more frequent now than in the past) they give me an expected wait time, I show up and they're on the ball with the fact that I'm picking up a to-go. Overall, I'd recommend this diner to anyone looking for good American food. read more

My roommate and I went here for diner recently. It was after 8pm. We got seated right away and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. They had a special on Salmon or Fish. I don't remember ... anyway he got the special. He enjoyed his food way more than I did. I can't even recall what I ordered ... I just know I wasn't impressed. Everything I had was unremarkable. Huge portions at a decent price. I had the Denver omelet and it was made and served very quickly. I used to frequent this diner several years ago and was happy to see they have not changed over the years. The staff is attentive and are eager to please.
