I never expected to be blown away by a pub on Acton High Street. ACTON!! Still, I followed a…read morefriend's recommendation to come down for a jazz open mic on a Friday night and I almost missed it. Once inside you are in pub heaven with a traditional looking lounge at the front, you almost walk into the bands as you enter the pub but there's plenty of seating to enjoy the music from a safe distance too. You pass through another section before the place opens up to the main bar at the back. It has quite a continental feel to it, and I can't believe I didn't immediately spot the massive vats at the back - I was too busy admiring the statues on the bar. And it's difficult not to be tempted by the selection of beers when in a brewery and I didn't regret my choice of Achtung. They also serve food and while the main menu is limited to sausage rolls and pies you can also order pizza or sushi which is delivered directly to your table by local takeaways. I'll definitely be back, a real gem.

Their Early Doors IPA was always likely to be my favourite, but I also enjoyed Dark Matter, 2 O'clock Ordinary and their Weissbier called Achtung! Good brewery. We stayed long enough to warrant some food. The burgers looked delicious, but we decided to go for 3 snacks for a tenner. This meant we could both have a snack of our choice and also share some chips. I enjoyed the luxury fish fingers! (No Captain Birdseye here!)

We got a table right by the window as we were there quite early in the evening thanks to the jet lag. I got a Fuller's Frontier and the Wild mushroom & spinach gnocchi with sage. My colleague enjoyed the burger. The food was all you'd expect of pub food and more - creamy and rich, thoroughly comforting, with lots of flavor. The space itself feels cozy, despite it being more spacious than most pubs I've visited. It was decorated for Christmas, making it feel even more inviting. Service was attentive enough - took orders but then let us enjoy the evening. It was a team of servers, rather than just one, and all were friendly throughout the experience.

Was then greeted by a waitress who said hello and then a bit further on by the Manager who said hello and asked if she could help me and did I want to eat. That for me is an indication of good service which did indeed follow. A large and imposing Fullers pub set on the banks of the river on the Chiswick side of the Thames. Very traditional inside with carpets and lots of dark wood and traditional chairs etc. Great views over the river and a seating area outside also. A great place to take your parents, grand parents, family, friends etc for a relaxing and no fuss sort of a meal in a traditional London pub. Go for a leisurely stroll along the short towpath and then head back for a pint and some scoff. Good food, good service and everything is shipshape here on the banks of the Thames. Not flash or grand but honest and pleasing. There are three pubs along this stretch and this one is easily the best.

We got off at the nearest tube stop after finding the Bulls Head listed as a unique pub on www.fancyapint.com. Once we got off the tube we started walking in the general direction of the bridges/river. We wandered through residential areas and finally cut through the worlds smallest alley/pathway towards the river. We curiously ended up at the front doors of two adjacent houses. We passed through the gate noted to take us to the river, a by luck, there was the Bulls Head to the left! This is the only way to find this place. Once inside, this is a treasure on a rainy day - watching the trains on the bridge or rowers on the water. i can imagine it's a sweet spot on a sunny day too to sit outside riverside. check this place out!

Service is excellent too. I'll definitely be making a beeline for the Bull's Head when I'm next in the area.
