Order your food and a beer at the bar, pay in advance there, tell them your table number and servers bring it over when ready. Our running club came here after the London Marathon to eat, drink, and celebrate our success as it was close to all our hotels. I think this place is part of a chain of pub but it was ok and hit the spot for our large and loud group. More than enough items on the large menu to choose from with the option of an alcoholic or non alcoholic drink. Good beer selection too.

After a two hours tour of the Tower of London. A rest was indeed needed. We stopped at the Liberty Bounds for their fish and chips. The pub offers a great view of the Towers Brodge.

Supposedly this is a chain pub, part of a collection of pubs owned by the same company. I was really hungry and this was basically across the street from my hotel, and the reviews were decent. I wanted a pub meal, and the first thing I noticed was that you seat yourself. Then, you grab a menu, order, and pay at the bar. They deliver your food to the table. This is basically a sit-down restaurant with no service. I can't complain, because all I wanted was decent food, and soon. I ordered fish and chips with mashed peas. The batter was fantastic and crispy, and the chips were well salted. I would describe the mashed peas as exactly as you would expect. Highly recommend not getting them. The only reservation I had about this place, that I'll also pass along to you, is that the restaurant seemed dirty. Not unsanitary, but dusty and in need of some wood conditioner and Windex.

Great food at great prices. We ordered Chicken and Avocado wraps with chips and a soft drink from the app and the food arrived really quickly. The wraps were fresh and tasty and the chips were delicious. If this pub was closer to our hotel we would definitely be back!

Not sure why this pub has so many good reviews. It's so confusing trying to find a table at this place, order food, or even another drink. The bartender made my husband wait 10 minutes while he chatted with his friends. Service was horrendous even though it's not full service. You're going to them to order what you want, and they can't even get that right. We ordered bangers and mash, in addition to a gin and tonic. This was definitely plan B since our first choice was closed, and it showed, but at least it was close to the London Tower.

When: Saturday at 4:30pm Party Size: 2 Burgers: 5/10 I got the chicken, brie, jam sandwich. The bread wasn't good. Jam + Brie is always a good combo though. She got the chicken, burger, cheddar burger - it was basic. Onion rings were good and fries were solid (I now add vinegar and salt to all my fries after being in London) Service: 5/10 You can use the app to order your food but it doesn't have their burger+drink specials on the app. You go to the bar and order/pay for your drinks/food and they bring it to your table number. Ambiance: 3/10 The place was filthy as if no one was working to clean up. There were empty beer glasses and plates all over the place. Everyone who wanted to sit down had to move the dirty dishes to a different table in and wipe down the table. We were a little confused at first as to what in the world this place was. Overall: 4/10 I wouldn't back for lunch.

The view from our table

OK - so one of the things I was looking forward to when I decided to come here was the Fish & Chips. One of my favorite guilty pleasures... but I have to be honest and say that the Liberty Bounds just doesn't do it for me. I can get much better Fish & Chips back home in the States. We came on a weekday and the place was packed, we found a table upstairs and we had to bus our own table. The table itself was dirty and had crumbs everywhere, albeit, they were busy so I didn't fuss much. We ordered fish & chips and waited about 40 minutes for it - the view from the restaurant was spectacular so I didn't mind. When our food came out, it looked delicious. The portion itself is huge so you can easily split it with someone else. When I bit into my fish, it wasn't hot, you can tell it had been sitting out for awhile. Also, I can tell that this fish was originally frozen and then fried. It didn't have a pop of flavor, it was just meh. The chips were okay - but given the fact that my fish left much to be desired, I took a loss on this one. The convenient location of this pub, being across from the Tower of London & the view from the restaurant is one of the best appeals of this place. Otherwise, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again.

Great lunch under 10 pounds! The menus were at the table and we went to the bar to order and pay. Many vegetarian/vegan choices. Staff was lovely.

Typical Weatherspoons. Decent food for a decent price with an interesting interior decor. No culinary highlight, but filling, tasty comfort food. Loved the walls decorated with fake old timey looking booj shelves!

The interior is odd too, with great big windows looking out at the spectacle of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London over the way.

I got the bangers and mash while by wife got the cottage pie. I think I got the better meal as the sausages were really tasty and the whole grain mustard in the potatoes was a great way to elevate the potatoes. Her cottage pie was fine but didn't have a ton of flavor. Food came out surprisingly quickly, but we also had an order of chips which was crazy slow to come out of the kitchen. The chips were quite good but we'd both finished our entire meals and most of our beers by the time we got them. Beer options were solid, some good German choices. Beer was cheap too.

This place is not trying to play up on an image like many of the bars in this areas and sticks instead to the important business of being a damn fine pub. Being quite small there is a naturally cosy feel to the place and this is complimented by the decor wuth lots of wood panelling and comfy seats. The bar has a great selection of draft and bottled beers and, for the summer months, there is an excellent beer garden. I've yet to try the food but they do serve traditional pub grub between 12 and 5 Tuesday through Sunday. With a great atmosphere, warm and friendly bar staff and an excellent range of drinks, The Carpenters Arms is a brilliant place for a relaxing evening or a great stop-in after a hard days shop.

But, the chaos I walked into on a Sunday has ensured that I never walk into a crowded pub like this again. It took almost 15 minutes to flag down one of the servers to ask about getting a table, to which I was told, "If you see a spot, grab it." As soon as I saw a couple get up I threw my stuff down- hoping it wouldn't get stolen- and went to order at the bar. That took another 5 minutes. Given how crowded it was, I ended up having to share my table with 4 other people; which wasn't bad, until I ended up getting my food more than 15 minutes after I'd ordered it, and then realized I was the only one eating at a table full of strangers. The food itself wasn't bad, but for a pub that claims to have the best Sunday Roast in London, it certainly didn't compare to those that don't claim that and are less of a hassle to eat in. And at £17 a pop, you can bet the experience wasn't worth it for some chicken and Yorkshire pudding.

About a week ago, I made the mistake of ordering some Nachos here. Honestly the saddest plate of…read moreNachos I've ever come across. The best description of it I can make is that it was that someone poured a bag of tortilla chips onto a plate, squeezed some awful American-style runny cheese over it all, then put some ready-made shop-bought guacamole on one end, what looked like ketchup but was salsa on the other end, and then the largest dollop of sour cream (almost tasted like fresh whipped cream somehow) in the middle. There was no attempts to layer anything. It was served on a baking tray which I can't really explain seeing as it was all completely cold. And they cost £12.50 which, tbh, is a disgrace. They were unfortunate to say the least. I should have sent them back but I was so hungry that I tried to make the most of it. Unrelated, but the bar staff were lovely, I'm sorry I had to give a bad review based off the food.

The place is old and run down, just like almost everywhere in this little pocket of East London, but rather then struggle against this handicap the pub has perservered and shone through as a local boozer where everyone knows one anothers name... and an outsider isn't always welcome. I ignored the alarms going off inside my head as I took my seat, watched beadily by about 10 locals all sitting at the bar swearing at each other. I was in their end now, so I have to be careful... The bartender however could not have been nicer, even when I was just sitting in there to watch the cricket (I came back later for a pint as homage to this good service.) The TV is projected (sports) onto a big screen and Led Zeppelin/David Bowie screams in the background.. awesome. Their are boxing posters all over the wall, looking back to a time when boxing was still a huge part of East End culture. An excellent little boozer.

Finally, last week, whilst waiting in the arctic London temperatures, I decided it was better for both my body and spirit to wait inside. So into the Salmon & Ball I went. And it was rather pleasant. A traditional East-London boozer with the usual smattering of cool boys and old men that look like they've been glued to their bar stools since the late 60s. Bar staff were really friendly and my pint was ice cold, so no complaints here. A far better alternative than standing on the street!
