Classic classic old bar/restaurant. We took a recent vacation to London and had read about the interesting shops and bars between Hammersmith and Kew bridge. We got off at the nearest tube stop after finding the Bulls Head listed as a unique pub on www.fancyapint.com. Once we got off the tube we started walking in the general direction of the bridges/river. We wandered through residential areas and finally cut through the worlds smallest alley/pathway towards the river. We curiously ended up at the front doors of two adjacent houses. We passed through the gate noted to take us to the river, a by luck, there was the Bulls Head to the left! This is the only way to find this place. Once inside, this is a treasure on a rainy day - watching the trains on the bridge or rowers on the water. i can imagine it's a sweet spot on a sunny day too to sit outside riverside. check this place out! read more

This is a great place to enjoy a pint in this supremely chilled out stretch of river in Chiswick. Whether it's gazing over the dingies bobbing gently in the river whilst enjoying a pint of crisp Cornish ale on one of the benches outside, or tucking into some hearty grub in the wooden-beamed booths inside, it's easy to imagine you're miles away from London, and certainly nowhere near zone 3. Service is excellent too. I'll definitely be making a beeline for the Bull's Head when I'm next in the area. read more

Wow what a great location for a pub! We were lucky enough to get a seat overlooking the river Thames, which was a lovely way to finish our Sunday afternoon. Great range of real ales (also cask mark certified), and friendly bar staff. Sadly when we visited their Sunday lunches were off the menu as they had a problem producing the gravy. Instead I had the beef and ale pie with mash potatoes and vegetables (£8.95), and my fiancée had the lamb shank (£11.50), with mash. The lamb shank was pretty good (I was allowed a bite) although it did seem to be served with a large amount of brooth which did not look appetising. The beef and ale pie that I had was really stodgy and pre-processed. In fact I ended up leaving a lot of it behind (which is very unlike me). I would like to come back and visit to try the Sunday lunches again if I'm every in the area, simply because of the wonderful country/riverside location. Definitely recommended for drinks. Food wise ask what they recommend on the menu before ordering. read more

What a lovely pub! We went here for a Cycling Club reunion. and I really enjoyed it. Of course, chatting with someone was what makes a place. but here the river really makes a wow factor. The food is good, and reasonably priced. Drinks are a bit more than in Poole. Lovely that its so near Richmond Park too. It really is in a good situation. I'd love to come here again some time, and I hope an occasion arises! read more

The Bull's Head is a pleasant little pub resting alongside a picturesque part of the River Thames, near Kew Bridge. In the summer it is really quite busy outside as customers strive to gain a seat on one of the benches outside to sit in the sun. Inside it really is very cosy. The walls are lined with empty wine bottles and the rooms are decked with warm toned wood. When I first went to the Bull's Head, I was really looking forward to trying the food as it's a popular favourite among the Chiswickians and so I was hoping for something special. The menu reads well, with lots of choices and specials. However, I was really let down by the quality of the food. It seemed nothing more than you would expect to get at a Harvester. The vegetables tasted as though they were frozen, and I remember the peas I got with my fish and chips were particularly revolting. I have since ventured further down the Thames and enjoyed more pleasant food at the other pubs. Don't get me wrong, the Bull's Head is a really nice pub, it just doesn't live up to the hype! read more

I really liked this place. I used to go here when i was doing some work experience a while ago in the area. I found the outside area to be the saving grace of the pub. When you go in, you dont feel like you are entering a place that will contribute to a good night, but if you are lucky enough to get a seat on the balcony area, then it really does make your evening as it overlooks the Thames. It has a great selection of beers from the more popular, to the more exclusive brands. Not a must go to pub, but not the worst in the area. read more

A great location, on the banks of the Thames in Chiswick. If I were honest the authenticity of place has dipped over the last 10 years (the City Barge 20 paces downstream is a tad better), but still it offers a wide range of beers, lots of seating inside & out plus a varied dining menu for lunch & dinner. At the end of the day you can't beat a summer's evening enjoying a drink by the river and engaging in the local sport of spotting whether TV funnymen Ant & Dec are in (they're nearby residents). read more

Wow, what a super pub. Not far from Chiswick, Gunnersbury, and Kew, it's just by the rail bridge to the east of Kew Bridge. It's right by the Thames, and anyone doing the walk on the north side of the river will come across it. The building is old, and gorgeous inside: close, well-beamed, and with none of the modern concessions to space or convenience. It's full of nooks and crannies, though. Their ale is well-kept. And while there are plenty of Fuller's brews on tap, of course, you'll also find guest ales. I had a lovely pint of Brains' Bread of Heaven today. Since it was a sunny Sunday there were plenty of folks having lunch at the handful of outside tables. Several dozen folks, me included, took our pints outside and sat on the edge of the river, dangling our feet above the quickly-rising Thames. Nearby, a painter was reproducing the eastward river bend and Chiswick pier while people waliked back and forth, enjoying the sunshine. What a great place to stop. read more

Had a nice outdoor Sunday lunch at Bulls Head today. The staff were extremely nice, food arrived at expected speed, and we enjoyed being outdoors at the table for our Sunday roast. Outdoor tables are first-come, first-serve and I ordered drinks and food inside. I had the Beef sunday roast and my wife the Turkey. Hers was quite good; I wasn't terribly impressed by the beef but the roasted potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, and other vegetables were quite nice. Price came in pretty reasonable. They also had a great kids menu as well as the option for a kids portion of the Sunday roast. I would definitely come back; food was a little disappointing but staff and atmosphere mostly made up for it. read more

Great place to go at the weekends especially when the suns out. Great atmosphere and with it being a Chef and Brewer pub the food is top quality too. Recently refurbished but tastefully so hasn't lost an ounce of charm. Always go there when i take the dogs for a walk by the river. If i stop for a drink the staff always offer a bowl of water for the dogs which i think is top notch. Free parking for customers but spots are limited so i'd say get on the Thames path and get walking. You won't be disappointed when you get there read more

The pub is a complete mess with bookings! Twice on significant events we tried to book a table in advance. The first time we booked online and I received a confirmation that the table was reserved for us, but I still worried and for a few days called to confirm the booking. Imagine my surprise, when I found out that the pub's employees do not know anything about my booking! Fortunately, the table was not yet occupied and we got it at the right time. Last Saturday my husband and me went to the pub personally to book the table we needed a week before the proposed visit (it seemed to me that this method would be more reliable). We made sure that the booking was done and calmed down. But when we arrived on the day, it turned out that the table and the room that we booked are occupied! We were very disappointed and upset, and we were very ashamed before our foreign guests. The pub is beautifully located, the food is delicious and I did not want to write negative feedback about this place, but I want to warn that if you want to book a table in advance - be careful - the pub is a complete mess with bookings! read more

I have lived in the area all my life. Last time I visited; 3 years ago.. I was Sunday, I had left the gym and was hungry, so, I thought I'll go and have a proper Sunday roast at The Bulls Head. To begin with I had problems attracting the attention of a barmaid who was busy chatting. I asked "where are the menu's". She said "over there". Nice. I ordered roast beef to start and seafood platter as a starter. She asked "do you want the prawns and fish as a starter?". I replied jokingly "Yes...unless you had had them in mind as a desert?". She then explained that the salmon n prawns was also available as a main course. Eh? I had ordered roast beef as a main. Anyway.. I said "tell you what, Im famished, I will order the salmon n prawns as a MAIN and then the roast beef to follow...in other words 2 main courses". The bar which was empty to begin with began to fill up with pushchairs and on a table next me a couple produced the whole 9 yards. Hot water a bowl, and warmed the baby food and proceeded to feed their sprog. Then another 3 couples with babies came in with all the regalia and it ceased to be a pub. Then 4 dog owners arrived with thier dogs and what I thought was going to be a nice place to have a sunday lunch turned into a zoo cun playground. It was bedlam. Then my food arrived. 2 girls holding a plate each and put it on the table. One was the prawns and the other the roast beef. I enquired "what is the chances that by the times I have eaten my started, the beef will cold". They looked confused. So I repeated it slowly and eventually a consensus of opinion was reached. "Yes the beef would be cold" they chimed. "shall we take it away then?" "well girls...what do you think" One nodded and walked off with the beef. I immediately noticed that the salmon and prawns appeared a rather small portion for a main course, so, I asked the barmaid who took my order what it was. She said "its a starter". I said given you asked me if I wanted one in the first place and I agreed, how come I go this?" she said you ordered a starter. She didn't seem the fizziest drink in the fridge, so, driven by starvation, I just sat down and ate my lunch. They forgot the butter, but I didn't even report it as by the time I got it the fish would have gone off. There was no lemon either. The salmon was grey and looked like it had died of old age. It was awful. The din of dogs running around and kids became unbearable. The whole place was out of control. It is obviously an area cordoned off from the rest of society, but there were no signs saying DOGS ALLOWED. Furthermore, I thought the licensing age was 18 years or age not 18 months! I dont like eating my Sunday lunch with dogs charging around and whilst I have children myself, I would not inflict new-born babies on those who want to go and have a quiet pint and or some lunch on a Sunday. Pubs are for adults not new born babies and out of control kids whose parents do not keep them in check. By this point I was brassed off. It is not what I had in mind AT ALL. So, I asked to speak to the Manager. I explained the situation and he looked quite vacant whilst trying to provide a very incoherent but amusing explanation as to why a starter and a main course would be served concurrently. What remained of any confidence drained away the more he droned on. He could have said "hey listen my terribly sorry about all this, we will get you out of the zoo and sort out another table for you somewhere else...meanwhile...can I get you a drink"? It isn't that hard is it? Wel it was. I gave them a fighting chance to make amends and he flopped. I asked for my money back and he returned the cost of the roast which was just over £12.00 which was fine by me. At no point did this awful man apologise and he didnt look in the slightest bit contrite. Just chippy and arrogant. My advice is try a Soviet Slophouse. You don't get to eat with dogs and they don't serve all your food at once. Dreadful experience from start to finish. read more

A gorgeous olde style pub on the banks of the river Thames with delicious food and real ales. As well as the usual menu there is a specials board which is a menu in itself; making it difficult to choose from all the tasty dishes. A really good find! It's a bit more of a walk than the other 2 pubs along the river, but I reckon it's worth it. The menu is wide ranging, with lots more than just your standard pub grub. The food was really tasty (we all enjoyed it), albeit with slightly small portions. But £15 for a 2 course meal is pretty good when you consider the quality. Our requested table in the sunshine overlooking the Thames was lovely. The food was good - the desserts to die for. However ... our first drinks took 25 minutes to arrive, and the service after that was so slow we had to keep getting up to go ask the staff if we could order. We also had to get up to keep chasing our orders. Every time our drinks arrived we were tempted just to place another order immediately - whilst we could! We also had to remove our empty dishes onto another table as they were left for ages. We even had to ask for our table to be cleaned after the main meal. We gave up after the desserts as nothing more was offered. After asking for the bill ... I had to go and get it printed off myself! read more

we thought the Bulls Head located right on the river Thames on Strand on the Green Chiswick was excellent on all counts. Some windows of the restaurant overlooked the river and the interior was lots of nooks and crannies. It was certainly a blast from the past and a nice one at that. The staff could not be faulted being attentive friendly and helpful. The food was waiter service and we thought that was a good choice of traditional British "Fayre" on the menu. The food itself was hot and tasty with generous portions. The prices were very reasonable. It is a very popular pub/ restaurant can get crowded so it is best to get there for an early lunch rather than leaving eating until 1 o'clock. read more
