We popped in for lunch and some pints. First impressions when I walked in, this place is very cool. This is what a nice English pub should look like. Had all the decor and the low ceilings and it just looks very cool. The food on the other hand, that could use some work. 2/5 Fish sandwich - was ok but not the best. The ratio of protein to bread needs work. 1/5 Buffalo chicken sandwich - served with blue cheese and I love blue cheese but this just didn't taste right. The flavors were all off and the coleslaw was bland. The handful of chips was like a baby's handful! I'd come back for a pint but not for lunch. read more

If I lived in Richmond I would come here everyday! I loved the vibe here so much. It's in a great spot with the most amazing view of Richmond terrace. Inside is super cute. They must have redone it because the photos on here don't match up. We chose a table in the corner by the window and it was so cozy. There was a girl across with her two dogs and I loved seeing that so much! She was living my dream life. I love being in such dog friendly spaces. We ordered the fish and chips and the staff was really nice and brought us the food to the table and checked on us to see how things were. This was definitely the best fish and chips I had on my trip. Can't wait to visit again and grab a drink to go and sit outside to enjoy the view. read more

One of my favorite local pubs in Richmond Hill! We stopped in after checking out the views nearby and walked into a surprisingly cozy atmosphere reminiscent of a tavern. The area outside the tavern itself was peaceful and quiet, and we were seated quite quickly. There were an abundant amount of tables and booths, and we were attended to quickly and with care by the staff. Drinks were delicious and reasonably-priced, and I also hear from a few locals that The Roebuck lets you take a drink out and sit on the benches across the street to enjoy the view from Richmond Hill. I ordered a Mojito spritz, which was absolutely delicious, and the other drinks tasted wonderful as well. The sticky toffee pudding was our favorite dessert of the two that we ordered - it is definitely a must-try at The Roebuck! Will definitely be back here to visit. read more

Last time I was in town this place was under renovation, so was excited to stop by. Me: Road weathered traveler at 3:00 pm weekday. Strolls into the Roebuck... searching for a bite and a pint. Roebuck: Zero greeting. No eye contact. Not busy, but not empty. Signs says grab a menu, and order at the bar but no menus available. Staff walked past me multiple times. Me: Goes to bar .. zero eye contact . No greeting, nothing. I was there to order food and drinks and after 10+ min of no acknowledgment... Walked out and headed down the hill. Living in Richmond you sometimes forget how beautiful it can be. So to remind yourself you can't go wrong with taking a walk up the hill to take in the views at The Roebuck. I can't review the drinks, or the food, or the pub itself because they don't matter. You don't go to this pub for those things. You go for the stunning views across the river Thames, Twickenham Petersham and Ham. And the scenery doesn't just have to be enjoyed in the summer either (although this is the best time). Go on firework night or New Years Eve for a complimentary panoramic firework display. People will most probably bring their own fireworks and fire lanterns to set off from the field below too. One of my favorite places to be in London, cozy atmosphere, delicious beers and all the pub flavor you need :) I ordered the 8 oz beef steak that came with peas, fries and cooked tomatoes for 12.99£ which is a pretty good price for London and especially for Richmond. The steak was supposed to be served medium but i got it well cooked which is the reason for 4 stars. I really wanted that medium steak :p The view itself is worth to come here, you can take your beer outside and enjoy the great view :) read more

The Roebuck has a few, important things going for it, which make it an extremely worthwhile cause to visit this pub. First of all, the location - it is situated on top of Richmond Hill, away from the hectic crowds of Richmond. To get here by foot from Richmond is a little bit of an uphill trek, but it is worth it. Or, if you are having an afternoon stroll around Richmond Park, this is located just a few minutes away from Richmond Gate entrance. Once you are in, the pub is perfectly pleasant and charming - it does hot food, pub lunches and dinners, and Sunday Roasts. There are plenty of locals which make up the clientele. What I come for, is the genius fact that they let you take your drinks out of the pub, over the road, and onto the path, with benches. Here, you can sit with you drink, and take in one of the most beautiful views in London. Lush greenery, and the Thames winding its way all the way over to Windsor. That has got to be worth the price of a vodka tonic, hasn't it? read more

The Roebuck is a nice little pub in a great spot on the crest of Richmond Hill. It certainly has some of the best views of any pub in a semi-urban setting in the UK - why else would Mick Jagger choose to live nextdoor?! In the summertime you can take you drink (in a real glass!) and go and sit on the benches across the road and watch the boats float up The Thames. You can even stroll a little further afield into the meadow and lie down with a pint. Lovely. On the inside, it's quite nice, but there are a few flaws. The food isn't great, and is overpriced. There are several annoying extraction fans in some of the nicest window seats - they shouldn't really need these with the smoking ban you'd think? On the plus side, there is always an excellent selection of real ale with around 4 guests on tap, and the New Year's Eve party is not to be missed... much debauchery with the locals and the finger buffet! Well worth a visit if you're in the area and a welcome change for the dreadful Marlborough around the corner. read more

Great pub with reasonable priced drinks. We paid £17 for a jug of Pimms & £3.80 for a pale ale pint. The best thing is that you can take your drinks across to the park outside with the most amazing view. Watch the sunset then head inside for a meal. They only have two vegetarian options and i had one of them. The Ploughmans Board- it was cheese, pickles, apple and bread plus an amazing cheesy pie. It was incredibly substantial & delicious!! This pub was located close to our hotel in Richmond. It has a traditional pub atmosphere and a lovely view of the Thames. We enjoyed the fish (cod) and chips, beer and sticky toffee pudding. Also ordered the special - Philly cheese steak. Clearly they've never been to Philadelphia as this sandwich was served open face on brioche but it was tasty. Service was friendly. Was pleasantly surprised by The Roebuck. We walked over from Richmond Park's Richmond Gate side (NW) on a sunny Sunday. At just about 2pm, I expected it to be stuffed to the brim with families looking for their traditional Sunday Roast, but we surprisingly scooped up a table straight away. Standard pub menu (a burger, fish and chips, lamb/chicken/beef roast with all the fixings, a we've-bother-to-put-a-salad-on-the-menu-but-it-definitely-sucks-option, bangers and mash). They refuse to cook the burger to order (well done only) so I opted for fish and chips (mushy or regular peas optional). I usually don't order this British staple since it's almost always bland and super greasy, but Roebuck did it right. It was HUGE, battered and fried fresh and well seasoned. Also, we were checked up on not once but TWICE during our meal, so got some water and soda refills which is virtually unheard of in England. I'd be remiss not to mention their "terrace", which is actually just the look out point to the gorgeous Thames and valley below. It's across the street, and there are no tables or service out there, but equally no problem ordering at the bar and carrying your pints over to enjoy the view (albeit while standing up or sitting on the concrete wall). read more

Holy cow! Rock and Roll gods, such as Mick Jagger, have wined and dined here? That must make me awesome by proxy. At first glance, you might not think anything of the pub at all. It's a pretty big hike up the hill from Richmond High Street, and the row of million pound houses surrounding kind've overshadow the place, but it's a great pub! What's even better? Taking your pint across the street to watch the sunset on the Thames and Petersham meadows (where there are cows!! and recently, calfs!!) below (v cheesey, but hey, I'm a girl at heart). As for the food, I've had a nice burger there, and they're chips were good enough that I stole half of my partner's. There are a quite a number of locals usually (read: older gentlemen), but the whole place is quite friendly. Word to the wise: the American University in Richmond is right around the corner, so on Friday and Saturday nights during terms... just use caution. read more

It is usually mixed with lemonade and fruits including strawberry and cucumber 3. Take the jug outside and across the road to one of the park benches along Richmond Hill Rise. Don't worry this is perfectly legal in the UK. 4. I LOVE the Roebuck. Situated on top of Richmond Hill with a prime spot overlooking England's only legally-protected view, this is Surrey supping at its finest. In front of the Roebuck, there is a long line of benches that plays host to a thousand bottoms in the summertime, as people flock to enjoy a nice drink and take in one of the best views in England - a claim that isn't banded around lightly. (I can see that the submitted user photos illustrate this amazing view beautifully.) But whilst many drinkers elect to drink outside, this isn't to detract from the Roebuck's class inside - especially with the winter months fast encroaching. The Roebuck is a very good size, yet retains a feeling of intimacy. The décor is very much 'traditional pub' - as is the atmosphere. Despite its size, its popularity with the locals ensures its always well packed, which adds to the atmosphere. Friendly service and a good selection of drinks add to the Roebuck's charm. Ive been here twice and both times with kids during the day. Considering the area it is in its very friendly and laid back . The food is fine. The service is great . We were in here on a Sunday and the roasts were on the menu and male really wanted a steak. The barman checked with the kitchen and they made steak. The park across the road is a beautiful view but inside is a traditional looking old English Pub. Background music is random songs from the 70s and 80s . Service gets two thumbs up . This is the closest pub to the hotel I was staying at. And as they say "when in Rome..." so I had to check it out. I had a pint, a meat pie, and some potatoes. All in all a decent, hearty meal. I'm not as much for British food but this was decent. Funny enough I learn later on their menu is quite similar, if not exactly the same, to some other pubs elsewhere. Now I still haven't figured it out (like why some pubs have this cookie cutter menu, and others don't). Casual setting, polite service (nothing extraordinary). So I'll deduct 1 point..just because I thought it was authentic...but it seems to be more of a chain-type offering. But food was still decent here. And it's a hell of a view. read more

(Sense the bitterness at your leaving, dear) Came here with a few people yesterday, and found myself feeling all excited at now being a part of one of the Roebucks that made Yelp ROTD confusion some months back. Whilst I didn't get around to trying the food here, the drinks were nice enough. The pinot grigio was a bit nicer than what I get served in most pubs, and only marginally more pricey for it, so that was an acceptable plus for me. Coming here on a bank holiday Monday it was fairly busy in terms of taken tables and the random but short lived appearance of a queue at the bar, however after the discovery of there being more seats tucked around the back of the bar, the place instantly felt more spacious than at first glance, which was nice. The downside to not sitting at the front of the pub by the windows however, was quite apparent. The view. The view through the windows or outside the bar is simply superb. We even changed our route back afterwards to allow for indulging our appreciation of it! If you're in the area, this alone makes it worth any sort of up hill walking you must endure to get here. Going to be a bit controversial here and knock this one down to 3 stars. But you should still go there. As for location I don't think this pub can be beaten in London. Atop Richmond hill - my favourite place in London, the Roebuck has beautiful views out over the Thames and Twickenham. The beer selection is good - they always rotate 3-5 real ales and I can even admit to having tried their wine. There's plenty of little cubby holes to sit in. So why 3 stars? Its the spidey sense - I don't get a good feel about this pub. It just doesn't feel like a British pub should. It's not someone's living room, there don't seem to be any regulars and the bar staff are, well, there's something wrong. Go and try it out and maybe convince me that I'm going mad. read more

After reading great things about this pub I decided to head here for my Easter dinner. Whilst I can't fault the pub for its stunning views, the food that we were served was less than brilliant. All of our group ordered the Sunday roast which came swimming in gravy, everyone was covered so much that it would have been pointless adding mint sauce to the dish; there literally wasn't room for it. Oddly the dish was served with both roast potatoes and new potatoes, although I found the new potatoes to be inedible as they were so hard. My partner ordered a Beaujolis to go with my meal and was promptly served a white wine. After quering the waitress she assured him that it was a beaujolis, until he pointed to the listing for beaujolis under the red wine section of the menu. We were then informed that they had sold out of beaujolis, so I had to choose something else instead. You could excuse them for the fact that Easter weekend is generally rushed, but actually we were the first group to arrive. It's a shame that the Roebuck fails so badly on the food and service as it really does have one of the prettiest views in Richmond. read more

Had the braised beef and bone marrow pie, absolutet mouth-watering. The meat was so tender and flavorful, the mashed potato was a bit lumpy though but I still finished it all off. It's one of our favourite pubs to go to for its great view, now the food will make us go back there more often. read more

I came here for a friends birthday party upstairs. I'd been here years ago and had the impression it was smaller than it is. The Roebuck is a perfectly fine pub with a reasonable amount of real ales. Decor is rustic-exposed brickwork and the like. However, the real advantage of this place is its location. It's right at the top of the Hill and a step outside sees you facing the sweep of the Thames right down to Hampton Court-breathtaking!. You could on a sunny day even bring your pint and sit outside on one of the benches. I think the pub does Sunday lunches and the food we had for the birthday party prepped by teh pub was very nice. It's a nice place to aim for if you are in Richmond for the day. If too full, try the Lass O' Richmond Hill round the corner. read more

This pub is placed right on the top of richmond hill amongst all the big and beautiful houses.its a nice pub with a good selection of beers and perfect on a summers evening, as just across the road are benches that look down onto the river surrounded by all the greenery.i highly suggest a drive/walk around richmond park and then a nice lunch in the roebuck followed by a drinking watching the boats make their way up the river-perfection! read more

I read the reviews of this pub on line and based on those decided to book a table for last Sunday lunch. We were all very disappointed. The only good thing about this pub is the view that is not actually from the pub itself but from the other side of the street! The decor is dingy, drab and tired, the service is absolutely lousy in part due to insufficient staff, the food takes for ever and when it does arrive is very average/poor pub food. I cannot recommend this pub except on a nice day, if you have time to queue, then a beer on the other side of the road overlooking the park could be okay. If I were you i would bring a packed lunch! read more
