Very convenient to wandsworth town station. This place is always heaving on nice sunny days and they've got lots of places to have your pint outside. There was a weird rule where the outside was closed at 2100, when the pub down the road still had their patio open. The dining area looks very nice and I've yet to try to food, but on the next visit I'll definitely consider it. This is also very dog friendly as most pubs are. read more

I saw this place on social media and bookmarked it for my London trip. You cannot miss the green tiled building which is also a hotel. Its within walking distance from the tube station and the area has lots of other small shops and eateries. What caught my eye was the huge Sunday roast, with enough food to share amongst 4 people. We were seated upstairs and we ordered the Thor Hammer Roast £150. There were roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, carrots and sausages. The Pigs knuckle was another great dish £34 we ordered for sharing. I really loved the chicken liver pate £17 with the layer of jelly on top, which really complimented the pate when eaten together. The staff were welcoming and attentive. Overall, I love this place and will definitely recommend coming here for the huge platter and to enjoy the lovely pub food. read more

You can come in and get a quality drink from local beers to solid cocktails. Then on Sunday, you must come for a roast. What a treat. Expertly cooked meats and gravies and sides that warm your soul. Let me clarify something. This pub at midday on a weekend: 5 stars. This pub in the evening on any day of the week: 2 stars. With its island bar, fantastically friendly and skilled bartenders, spacious tables, generous availability of weekend papers, gastropub menu, projector screen for sport and tasty-delicious drinks, the Alma is a perfect place to spend a leisurely and boozy weekend afternoon, preferably nestled in the corner by the open fire in the winter months. But with its incredibly close proximity to Wandsworth Town station in conjunction with all the aforementioned pros of this pub (barring, perhaps, the weekend newspaper bit), the Alma is a heinously busy place to be in the evening, surrounded by every Wandsworth local in varying states of intoxication. I'm not a big fan of the fans of this pub in the evenings, therefore, I steer well clear of it. But after it played a happy host to me and seven of my friends this past Sunday afternoon - and after I consumed two expertly prepared bloody marys - my estimation of the Alma has changed; I can say with confidence that it's a bloody excellent place to be if you're a local in Wandsworth on a weekend (particularly if you like bloody marys). read more

This is a nice pub in Wandsworth. Every time I have been there the atmosphere has been good. It has never been completely packed or completely dead. This might be different at other times though. The service is always friendly and quick. The food looks good, but I haven't tried it yet. This pub's location is almost perfect. It is right across the street from the train station. This is an impressive corner pub, named after the Crimean War battle of 1854 (the name on the pub's parapet can be seen from the platforms of nearby Wandsworth Town railway station - a good example of early advertising). The exterior has an impressive and attractive early 20th century decorative scheme of green tiling, which is perfectly preserved. The interior - although modernised - is still impressive, comprising a large single room with an island bar, an elaborate frieze running along the walls, a series of hand-painted mirrors and some original gas-light fittings. The emphasis is as much on food as drinking, with lots of tables for dining, although there's a good choice of real ales, including Young's Bitter and Special, Charles Well Bombardier and (seasonal) Young's Winter Warmer. Service was efficient and reasonably friendly. I've not tried the food, but it has a good reputation locally. There's a function room upstairs which is licensed for Civil Marriages, if you fancy getting hitched in a pub! Located very close to Wandsworth Town railway station. read more

If you're meeting a friend at a pub you've never been to in a part of town you're unfamiliar with, do you freak out? Just a little bit? Are you worried that you're going to wander around for ages trying to find the place, or bother said friend multiple times asking for specific directions? I have a simple solution. Meet your friend at The Alma! It is LITERALLY across the street from Wandsworth Town train station. It doesn't matter if you've never been to that area in your life (which you should, it's nice). You walk out of the entrance to the station, walk straight ahead for 30 seconds (but make sure you look where you're going. it's a street with cars and buses and bikes), and you're there. It's pretty chilled, considering it's proximity to the station and the after-work vibes. We enjoyed a few drinks, found a table without a problem, and tucked into some yummmmm burgers and huge chips (in the States, I'd call these 'wedges' rather than fries). Prices are reasonable, but the menu selection is limited. If you want something a bit nicer with more variety, check out the restaurant through the double doors at the back. We decided against it, only because we wanted something more casual (and cheap, let's be real). But I'm down for trying it out at some point. Also, this street is adorable. My friend mentioned a great cafe a few doors down that does 'amaaaazing breakfast' (his words). Wandsworth. So hot right now. read more

Stayed at this B&B for one night during our short 2 day stay in London. The Alma Wandsworth is a little bit out of the way, but conveniently located across the street from a train station, which made things easier. This B&B was unlike any other I have ever stayed in because it was more like a hotel with a free breakfast. It was classy and simple, yet elegantly decorated. There was a home-like feel to our room and it was very "hip" and "modern." Free WIFI is an absolute PLUS whenever traveling - thank you! Also, the food is PHENOMENAL. We had lunch after we arrived and it was absolutely delicious. The hummus/pita platter was to die for. It came with a Mediterranean salad that had pesto and feta and lettuce and balsamic and peppers and all kinds of fresh ingredients as well as pitas and three different dips. YUM! We didn't spend too much time at the hotel or pub since our goal was as much sight-seeing as possible in two short days. But, the time we were there was extremely well spent. Breakfast was another absolute treat. There was a lovely long table full of juice, milk, pastry, bread, and assorted goodies/treats which was self-serve. Then, there was a breakfast menu at the table. I had a wonderful traditional English breakfast and my girlfriend had eggs benedict. Everything was perfectly cooked. The food at the Alma is unlike any other food I had while in London. Very tasty and perfectly cooked - definitely 5 star food in a pub that you would not expect to be so delicious or creative. That would normally equate to a 3 star review but The Alma has a couple of tricks up it's sleeve. Firstly, is the food - it's really good, really, really good in fact. Lovely. All this lovely food can occur in the designated restaurant area OR in the function room which is upstairs and available for hire. Secondly, The Alma is an inn/hotel - with 23 rooms! No need to worry about what night bus to get home, you can stay in the pub. Marvellous. I've had a few work Christmas meal's/parties here and The Alma was also the starting place for a recent pub crawl organised by Yelps' own Larissa G. All splendid. The alma is my local gastro pub. After work hours and when a game is on it's heaving with people sprawled out on the sidewalk on sunny days. Right outside Wandsworth town station with the Tonsleys nesting behind th pub. They do decent food which my husband raves about their burgers. My cousins stayed in their b&b in the back which is very adorable and classy for being attached to a pub. They enjoyed their stay and the b&b looks like it used to be a horse and cart station as it has a arched walkway to the back of the building. The b&b is not cheap running about £150-200 a night but is very cute and is reasonable for London prices although it is not situated in zone 1. read more

The Alma Tavern gave us shelter on a grey London afternoon when we somehow got lost having taken the wrong bus. So this lovely haven was just perfect and I can't actually comment neutrally on it. Traditional, wooden interior, comfy seats & armchairs and amazingly friendly staff. We were only there for a few pints and coffee both of which were good though. Not too expensive either. Besides the hot meals off the bar menu on the next table looked nice, too. I'd surely come back in case I get lost thereabouts again. Thankfully the railway station is just opposite the pub itself. A mate brought us here a couple of weekends ago. The exterior tiling is fantastic and indoors the bar looks like it's largely been untouched in terms of decorating so that was another plus point. It was pretty well attended for a Sunday night so the level of crowd noise competeing with background music meant raised voices for any conversation you wanted to have. Typically priced for London but a decent selection of Young's products on tap and inviting enough that I'd go back to see what the food's like. read more

I don't often venture south of the river - I can't face the visa issues - and stumbled into the Alma last night out of necessity. That's necessity of somewhere to meet a mate, and necessity of having a drink before venturing from Wandsworth Town to Wandsworth Common. Who knew Wandsworth was: a) so big; and b) had so many mainline stations? The Alma hit the spot in terms of handiness - it's right opposite Wandsworth Town - and in terms of just being a nice place for a beer. A mixed crowd, friendly (if not terribly competent) staff, no thumping music and a nice bright interior. If I ever get my wires crossed again in the area, I'd venture back happily. read more

Friendly yet buzzing venue with great food and a good selection of beer and wine. Used to be a bit weird inside, but now restored to it's original splendour. Alma Tavern is supposed to be a good pub. You know, good beer range, very good location (just in front of Wandsworth town station) and the price isn't that bad comparing to Waterfront which is now my local. My recommendation is to keep away from a american bloke called Ken, which is a gray hair American bloke, that is seriously a very good friend of the pub ( if not the partner of the pub owner). This person approached me and a friend of mine in a Friday after work with some rather peculiar subjects . Try not upsetting him at all with his all ludicrous conversation, otherwise he will suggest the pub manager (which is never is the bar) to not sell you anything else. The bar staff is actually very friendly and polity. Be very careful, they can be very racist. Apart from that, I was quite happy to put my card behind the bar every time I've been there. read more

It has a large central bar and comfortable seating around the walls. it serves mainly Youngs beer (quelled surprise!) but they also had Sambrooks which is my preference. I have no idea why they believe that putting peanut butter on a hamburger makes it 'an American burger' but it is an OK pub with fairly good food - typical upscale pub food. The clientele are a bit of the London 'Relly Heppy' set, so if you ignore them and sit in the back the experience will be much better. read more

I was a guest of the hotel, a diner in the restaurant and a drinker in the pub. The staff was amazing. The rooms were super clean and comfortable and the beer was always wet. The pub looks a bit shabby from the outside, then you get inside and it's a completely different ball game. Open spaces, big windows keeping the natural light in (a nice surprise considering the almost dingy impression you get from the exterior) and a really nice restaurant area if you want to eat. Decent place to go to, either as a pub for solid drinking or as a restaurant for some grub. I think Young's generally get it right but here they have done in particularly well. Outside is a bit of a sun trap on a nice day, although there is no beer garden. It is also a great place to watch the rugby, if that is your forte. read more
