Quite good food, great views, what's not to like? It's along the river walk in hammersmith, and yes, there are a bajillion pubs there. That said, the view IS good, especially from the multi level terrace, the food is more than good, and the staff is extremely friendly and convivial. You could do far far worse!

    Beef Sirloin Sunday Roast

Had the beef sirloin Sunday roast for 23 pounds, and the sticky toffy pudding + apple pear crumble for dessert. All were quite tasty and filled me right up. I maybe wished there was a little more meat on the plate, but maybe that is the American in me. I was really pleased with the array of vegetables and how tasty they all were. Especially the cauliflower. The sticky toffee pudding was very good. We left the plate spotless. The crumble was solid (came out ripping hot!) but was a bit tart for my taste. The pub has lots of seating options, both indoor and outdoor. The patio seems like it would be great for a nice day. You get a view of the river too. The service was also good - everyone was nice and we had no issues. Would come back. I heard the fish and chips are a winner.

Really cool, old pub. Apparently a British song was penned here sometime in the 1700's. Went here for dinner on 18/2/20 with some locals. Had the duck confit (£15 / $19.43) For me, it desperately needed more seasoning. As well, I was dying for water the whole time as we got a bottle of tap but it was never refilled despite there were four of us at the table. Another member of our party wasn't a fan of his peas with his fish and chips. I wish I had switched entrees with him. Felt a bit pricey for what we ordered.

Quiet and by the Thames, this is a place I love. Pub steeped in history and small enough not to be a Gastro Pub factory. So typical, I usually go back there regularly for family meals. The setting is particularly suitable, warm with its fireplaces. In summer you can enjoy the terrace with a breathtaking view of the Hammersmith Bridge. Easy access and the walk is worth it. The menu is typical of a pub with particular care for quality and creativity. It is a quality cuisine assumed. I tested different dishes and everything is elegant and well done. I can only advise, the Sunday Rost by the Thames is second to none. I will go back again and again

This was such a special place! We came out to Hammersmith to The Dove because it was near where my Grandfather grew up, and I so enjoyed getting to see the area outside London and experience such a historical and traditional English pub. The food was outstanding- by far the best traditional English food I've had yet! Their roast was amazing- meat done perfectly and the dressings so flavorful and wonderful! The atmosphere was perfect and we so enjoyed our lunch!

Beautiful pub on the banks of river Thames with serene, lazy water views. It's completely non touristy and off-the-grid and we decided to bring in the husband's birthday here. Go early if you want to snag a table outdoors and enjoy the calm views of the Thames. They don't take reservations for outside - we reached around 6.30 pm and were able to snag the only table available. *what luck*** From the summer food menu we only tasted the bread with olive oil & the rustic chips which were yummy. The bread basket had an assortment of focaccia and brown bread to sample and we had enough to nibble on for the evening with our drinks. #lovethisplace

This is one of London's most picturesque pubs. It's one of my favorite - if not my favorite - London pubs in the summertime. You see it is located directly on the River Thames in Hammersmith along the chill Upper Mall. If you can - sit outside at the Dove in the summer. Of course inside is cozy (save that for the winter months) but sitting on the deck or up on the upper balcony looking out on the river is just cool. I love meeting friends at the Dove .... grabbing a pint of London Pride .... and wiling away a summer evening. Tip - this place is way off the tourist trails of London.....thumbs up to that! And the Dove is further from Hammersmith Bridge than the other waterfront pubs on the Upper Mall. The entrance is on a little alley away from the river. History note - Britain's unofficial national anthem "Rule Britannia: was written in part here by James Thomson. There's an old copy of it mounted on one of the walls. Find it.

Although I live quite far from this historical little pub, every time I have ventured to West London, I have found myself enjoying this pretty riverside pub called 'The Dove'. 'The Dove' is located along the posh and idyllic riverside of Hammersmith. Typical of 17th century buildings, it has low ceilings and oak beams in the two front rooms. They have also cleverly attached a conservatory and terrace with ample seating looking out onto the Thames, perfect for sunny days. Meanwhile, a fireplace is always ablaze inside, taking away that winter chill. The menu is very traditional and English; perfect for Sunday roasts and a filling portion of sausage and mash. After filling up at this pub, I highly recommend a digestive walk down the pretty riverside to admire the views and to cry out in jealousy at the beautiful mansions with private gardens and personal speed boats. Rumour has it that Ernest Hemingway and Graham Greene were regular customers of this pub, so make your way down there for a cozy pub afternoon.

Found this place one night when stuck in traffic trying to get out of London on the A4. It is situated on the River near Hogarth roundabout. One of a handful of pubs on this stretch of river and certainly the smallest, One of the bars is one of the smallest in the U.K. Steeped in history it is not a large pub and can get uncomfortably busy during the summer although they do have a great balcony overlooking the Thames and if you can get in there you are made. Wooden floors, low ceilings, roaring fires and a warm welcome give this place a wonderfully cosy feeling most of the time. Ideal for a walk on either side of the river and end here for a nice bit of traditional pub grub. Also a vantage place for watching the boat race but I would imagine you would need to book in advance if you wanted to be on the balcony.

I am very surprised by the comments on other websites about the management of this pub. I've just been here for lunch on a saturday and they were clearly short staffed, just the manager and one girl to run the bar and about 30/40 covers, they were running about like blue arsed flies but still managing to keep everyone happy....just! The manager later said he had had 2 staff call in sick, which had left them struggling, but the two of them were making such an effort you could hardly notice. The manager still had time to chat for a couple of minutes, which is always nice to see. The experience was really very pleasant, cozy and relaxed, it must be the same guy who was mentioned in the other reviews as the grumpy guy with grey hair, but he was nice as pie today, both to customers and staff. He even suggested a bottle of rioja which was on special for £10 rather then the merlot we had chosen at £13, not many people would do that. The ale seemed well kept, the food was OK, can't say it was amazing, but it was good enough for standard pub fare in London. I'll be back to see if this was a one off, but i'm hoping it was a true reflection of the way this pub is.

Being a Fullers owned pub it has a great selection of real ales and pub food - specialising in beer baked pies - I would suggest a good place for tourists wanting to escape the madness of the West end and enjoy a typical English pub and enjoy some good comfort food. Good selection of wines and the obligatory spirits and a decent courtyard out the back to smoke or enjoy the good weather. As far as I could see most of the staff are Aussie but I have to say they are very efficient and perfectly pleasant. It almost seems like a competition to see who can serve you first. Has a good local following of locals and a cross section of the community visit here, some reading the papers, others playing darts and the rest generally having a good time. Be careful if any big football games are going to be on the TV as this is not the time to go - It gets very busy, a visit to enjoy some decent food and a quiet drink will interrupted by the rowdiness that ensue.

Chiswick is an upmarket suburb of central London, so don't come here for cheap beer or food. The Tabard is a very nice place with an excellent range of real ales, hand-pumped or bottled, from Britain and from abroad. But a pint of regular British ale can cost as much as UKP 4.00, which is expensive for a venue outside of the immediate tourist area. Foreign ales can be up there at UKP 5.50. Or higher. The upside is the pub itself, which offers very cozy and amiable seating inside and out. There are several secluded booths so you can have a chat with your friends without disturbing everyone else. Generally speaking, there's much more room than the building seems to suggest. Staff are knowledgeable and efficient. Gets busy on weekends, especially the outside area, which is cordoned off from the street. Thankfully, the otherwise VERY busy Bath Road gets quieter towards the evening. As suggested above, this pub offers frequent stand-up performances and music.

I stuck to their own beers on this occasion, although other Italian beers were available. Their AFO was a deliciously crisp amber ale, but their DIPA called Machete was the standout. I could have happily had some more but it wasn't the best long term plan. The bar seems a little expensive at first, but isn't really that bad when you consider the beer has been transported across from Italy. There were a couple of negatives. The large Machete measure was supposed to be 2/3 of a pint. Neither I nor the waitress realised this and so I was lucky enough to get a pint. They then tried to bill us for two halves which was a bit cheeky as it was not pointed out to us until after I had finished the pint. They did correct this when we pointed it out though so I don't hold that too strongly against them. The other problem wasn't really the bar's fault but when we arrived there was a large and very loud group of guys drinking, shouting and clapping. In my brief foray to the bar they were turning up the decibels on a charming conversation about how English women are fatter than Sicilian women. We retreated outside until they oozed off elsewhere.
