Love the whole idea of an open seating spread to hear wonderful live music. Great place for the kids to run and play. Ambiance is great or least the last time I was there a number of years ago. Dislike waiting in line for my food and drinks. Space to order is cramped and inefficient. Food selection well nothing I really wanted. Service then was fine not sure about today. There was a long sandbox near where the band plays and my daughter was electrocuted from a live wire. We do not recommend this place and we no longer go there. read more

A special place! The outdoor seating area is very different from a typical couple of tables on a sidewalk or even a covered patio. There are plenty of tables and chairs available in the covered and open areas, but I have brought my own folding chairs on a couple of crowded weekend evenings. The live music and the friendly environment for kids and pets can fill it up, especially in mild weather. The music is a variety of local bands that all seem to play tunes with broad appeal. The beer selection always has my favorite local craft beer, but I've been tempted to try other options. I can't speak for the rest of the drinks menu, but my guests always have been pleased with their selections. Staff always have been pleasing to me, friendly, accommodating and competent. I like the food menu, but that ranks lowest among the characteristics that keep me coming back. It is what makes my ranking 4, rather than 5. Went here for brunch one sunday and i loved the ambience and people! They had their usual menu in addition to some specials for that day. I got the banana crunch pancake along with a side of sausage, potato, and biscuit. Absolutely delicious! Many people were in line for the bottomless mimosa deal which I hope to try someday soon. Beautiful little spot. Dog friendly so we stopped here on our way up to north Florida. My dog was treated as a guest and offered water which I loved the gesture. The food was amazing. The steak flatbread was delicious, a little heavy on the pesto so if your into pesto like i am, it's amazing. My boyfriend got the spicy Italian sausage pasta and I'm pretty sure I ate more of it than he did. It was a special of the week but they should make it a permanent item because I'd get it again! Nice place to come for a leisurely lunch. It's a place you're expected to sit outdoors (although they have like 3-4 high top tables inside). They have a very simple menu but it seems like they want to make sure that every item they have is good. I tried two of their sliders and the meat was seasoned very well! Super juicy and packed with flavor. Pricing wise- I don't think it's the most cost-effective place to dine but if you're not a big eater then you probably won't mind the portioning-to-cost here. It's cool to see how they regularly schedule events. In the evenings thwy have live music playing with different local bands from Gainesville and it's a nice environment to just relax on a weekend! There are two lines FYI, one for ordering drinks and the other is for food. Most of the tables and seats are outside rather than inside. We came on a day where the Swing Theory played outdoors and it was fabulous! Lots of events happen here outside. I got the steak peso pita with Mac and cheese (upcharge for the mac and cheese). There's also a huge lawn so a lot of people had there dogs, and kids were able to run around and play. I had a margarita and I didn't stay for dinner. I really like the menu and selections here at One Love Cafe. It's a super spot to meet for lunch. Be prepared to dine outdoors. There is very limited indoor seating. Don't be alarmed though, the patio is awesome. High tops, regular tables, some chairs around the fire pit, and a few picnic tables with umbrellas scattered around the outer perimeter. Service is FAST! I've been here four times now and always had my entree' within 10 minutes. I'm amazed everytime I eat here because my meal has always been perfectly prepared to order. Great beer selections on tap. A cooler full of other beers if you don't see a tap selection that looks yummy. There's also wine and mixed drinks. The restrooms were very clean however the stall door in the mens room slams with a terrifying clatter that garners attention. They have lots of live music in the evenings. Was there Sat night and the band was great but were too loud for my taste. They hit 110 dB on numerous occasions which is just too much for such a tight area. I have driven by the One Love Cafe and never known what the story was. It was always hard to tell if they were open or not. Today my buddy suggested we meet there for lunch and I have to say I am glad we did. The Good: The food was terrific. I had a spicy beef sandwich and the Mac and cheese which was recommended. That was the real deal meal. The atmosphere was pretty cool the folks inside taking my order was super cool and chilled out. Good vibes from the Guy. The outside was nice because it was a beautiful day, but if it were hot they have fans and misters to cool things off (very nice). You can tell they bring in live music. It is the perfect setup for it. They also have corn hole, horse shoes, and lots of area for kids to run and play. I will be eating here again soon and will probably take the family. The Bad: there is not a lot bad here. It is a little confusing where you're supposed to go to order. I first sat down for 10 or so minutes and didn't see anyone, so I went looking and realized you go inside to order (who knew). Over all, not real bad. I have been plant-based/vegan for years and that got screwed up today thanks to this restaurant. I ordered a pulled jack fruit burger and it was rang up as pulled pork unbeknownst to me. Two bites later and I realized that the texture and taste was completely off for jackfruit... come to find out they mixed up my order with my friends; gave her jackfruit and gave me pulled pork. I just don't understand how that'd make sense seeing that I also ordered a side of tempeh, but I digress. Went back to speak with someone and the workers were all condescending and completely uncaring that they messed up my order. They tried to pull the "you're an angry black woman I'm going to need you to calm down" card for rightfully being angry that they didn't even do anything besides telling me that they were sorry. There is a large outdoor fire pit to hang around, (it's not turned on frequently enough in my opinion), and a covered area with traditional tables and chairs. Also large play area for Fido and the kids to run amuck. Beer, wine, and sangria to get your drink on and they almost always have live music. The food is ok - not great but decent choices for vegetarians and meat eaters. Good place to hang with friends, have a birthday party, or grab brunch on a sunny weekend. I come from a small town and, of the few perks to such areas, the biggest ones are definitely the open spaces and friendly, casual air about the people. When I make a trip back to where I am from, I can rely on these things pretty much anywhere I go, but sadly not all places in Gainesville idolize the vibe I am describing. One Love Cafe nails it immediately upon approaching the building, keeping the promise of their slogan "Good Food. Good Vibes." as though it were sacred. The Space: Nestled a bit deep into northwest Gainesville, One Love sits near the back part of Magnolia Parke but is made immediately identifiable by the gigantic signage they have placed upon the front of the building. Walking inside, I would describe it as a bit slender and quiant. That said, there are plenty of seats at the bar area (which hosts several choices of wine, interesting craft drafts, and bottles to satisfy any preference) and a few tables toward the rightmost corner, which also houses a TV for whatever game might be on your mind. Plants bring life to the ceiling, flowers brighten the center of each table, and even the order number stands are crafted with hearts as their bases. Something so typically mundane got a little bit of attention, a confirmation of the owner's investment in providing a great place. The above does not even cover the outdoor area: warm lights stretch across the lawn to illuminate glossy, spacious wooden tables for enjoying a meal or drink under the stars, similar wooden chairs encircle a fire pit to keep warm on the chilly nights, and they even make room for the gameday crowd with a projector for Gator games. Though it was not the case when I went, live music also is a focus of certain nights, a perfect complement to the ambiance crafted by this team. The Service: While all orders, both for food and drink, are ordered at the counter, those working the front are friendly, talkative, and excited to be a part of your visit to One Love. I can be indecisive, and appreciate staff willing to tell me their favorites or what may not be a great fit for me. After ordering, the team will bring your food both inside and outside so you can immediately relax into your experience. Aside from the above, not too much hustle and bustle occurs, a fact I find only benefits them. The Food: My first visit here was with a group of friends, one of which was raving about pretty much everything, but specifically the Lentil Burger and their homemade Mac and Cheese. Eager for both of those things, I decided I would take his advice and go for both. To my disappointment, they were completely out of this burger. I asked about it and the reasoning was due to it being the holiday season, but I would not expect a place only open 3 days a week to willfully choose not to make an item that is on their permanent menu. That said, I went a similar avenue with: - Black Bean Burger (B+) - Homemade Mac and Cheese (B) - Unsweet Tea (A) **I know, but it was that good I did not really feel up for drinking any booze, given the holiday season's continuous impact on my liver, and opted instead for a refreshing unsweet tea. I generally order this expecting a drinkable beverage that does not taste like water because, sadly, that is what I have come to expect from pretty much every place I go, but their tea was memorably tasty. Not sure the audience I am reaching with this raving, but I needed it to be said. As for the actual meal, the portion was enough for me to immediately know I would not be finishing the burger (and I was really quite hungry). Served on local ciabatta bread provided by another local bakery, the heap of fresh toppings all gave way to a really solid first bite. The two pain-points of the burger for me were that it was pretty messy, partly by nature of a black bean patty but also because the toppings are cut a bit big (a single thick pickle slab is hard to evenly distribute without the burger falling to pieces). The other hiccup was that the patty was a touch salty...not severely but noticeably. Then the Mac and Cheese that has been the talk of most people who I have surveyed. I come from "The South" and when I read homemade macaroni and cheese I instantly picture pan-baked, dense, cheesy squares of heaven. This side dish is, instead, the more pasta-like noodles with cheesy cream sauce. I definitely like it (in fact, I wolfed it down before even starting on the burger), but the hype left me feeling oversold a bit. Final Thoughts: I absolutely am over the moon when it comes to how they chose to use the property. One Love is not close to me, but I will definitely seek to return very soon to give that elusive Lentil Burger a shot, but more to chill under the stars for dinner and enjoy a unique Gainesville jewel. I ordered the One Love salad and added chicken - yummy! Flavorful and good portion. Other people with me ordered a steak sandwich and a margarita flatbread both equally good. Order at the counter and take your number to your seat and a server will bring your food out to you. This wasn't clear to me as a first timer but I got the jist from the long line forming out the door. The staff seemed a little frazzled by the busy night so weren't the most charming, though not rude. A tight space inside and only one register isn't ideal for a place that's become so popular but maybe they will rethink adding a second as they grow. Food was brought out quickly. Live music was great! The place is so popular on a nice night it was hard to find a seat. Tip: bring a blanket and sit on the grass, worst case. If you have kids, it's a good place to let them roam and play outside. Bring bug spray! I'd absolutely go back for the food and most of all, the atmosphere. What a warm and welcoming place! Fresh food and easy to find things even with certain food intolerances. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's small inside with a long bar and a few tables, but there are also great tables outside. Fantastic salads, sandwiches and a variety of entrees, with enough choices for vegans, vegetarians and carnivores. I'm gluten free and the staff were very well informed and gave me many options. Fresh, healthy, happy food. First time, I got the One Love signature salad - apples, raisins, mangoes, greens, vinaigrette,some cheese and grilled chicken. Mmmmm! Tasty and healthy. Second time I had the veggie burger without the bun, with their light and crisp coleslaw and a side of beans because I heard they were good - and they were! (The beans are made with bacon and maple syrup, enough said.) The owner and staff are charming. They had lettuce wraps with pickled shrimp on the menu -I was undecided, and they let me try a shrimp. I absolutely adore this place. I live in a nearby apartment complex and it's my favorite place to walk to with my dog and grab a bite to eat or a drink while listening to lovely live music. The food is delicious, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the service is *excellent*- all the workers are so friendly and helpful. The outdoor seating atmosphere is fabulous, with a fire pit, regular tables, picnic tables, and a sandy area for little ones to play in. The cafe is in one corner of a large, grassy square, so you can also bring a blanket and have an evening picnic, play some frisbee or soccer, etc. It's a great family spot, date spot, really anything! Also- free live music with no cover every Thurs-Sat evening and Sat&Sun mornings. Can't beat it! read more
