Valentines Day 2019. We were delighted to get a 6 pm reservation when waiting until last minute to plan. But, OMG 'chatty staff' were a constant source of interruption (well intended) and (ultimate) irritation. Food above average. Some creative and savory offerings. Extensive whiskey/scotch/ bourbon offerings. Nice bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon; wine at 1/2 off (their usual Thursday special). Yep, I would go back again. Great to have this place on the Westside! I would give the food a 5 star. I have been here 4 times, and ordered the Nashville hot chicken 4 times. It's too good to pass up. The parking is not great and the ambiance is so so. They have a great upstairs bar that is not always open. Outdoor patio is a nice addition if you get here during the good weather. Bourbon selection is pretty solid- they had Weller 12 last time I was in. Lastly, price is pretty good here, especially comparing it to the places on Cherry street and Wealthy. I love this place for many reasons. The bar is top-notch, staffed by welcoming and efficient pros, and they make a mean old fashioned. Their food is delicious and I've always had good service. They also have a cozy, dark bar upstairs and space for events. If you're in town for the holidays, they sometimes make pies that are available for pre-order/carryout - they're some of the best I've ever had. read more

Second visit to this place. Love the decor, feels like and old school bar, tin roof, pew-like bench seating, dark wood bar. We ate at a table in the bar area. It was a bit cold when the door opened. HUGE list of bourbons (for obvious reasons!), ryes, whiskeys, scotch. I ordered their Blackberry Thyme Smash cocktail with bourbon (instead of vodka) and l would highly recommend that! Started with Hot Cheese & grilled crostinis, which was very flavorful. I ordered their Bourbon Burger which had "1B", branded onto the top of the brioche bun. Nice touch! Bourbob bacon jam on it was delish! Love their fries, thin and crispy. Was able to make reservations for 8 people, no problem. There is also a big dining area beyond the bar so that is good for large groups as well. Ally was our server and was pleasant, great timing in terms of providing service, touching base, knew when to leave us to our socializing. Really liked her. Noise level was appropriate, better than most places l''ve been to recently in GR. There is a cool outdoor courtyard l'm dying to try once the weather gets warmer, so we will be back! read more

I guess I should have known by the restaurant's name that their specialty is bourbon and not food. I ordered the fried chicken entree and was quite dismayed. From first look, the breading just looked different from most fried chicken. The meat inside was fine but it lacked flavor overall. The hot sauce (oil) did not add to the dish at all. In fact, it was quite bitter. Service was decent and ambience is nice, don't get me wrong. But I came for food and it did not deliver. read more

I've been here twice for dinner as a foursome on weekend nights and they were busy and we really enjoyed the food and drinks. I believe they take reservations online (check their website) which is great for planning ahead and not having to wait 30-60 minutes somewhere. The food options are varied enough I think most people will find something to their liking. My third visit here was a Thursday around 4:00 for a happy hour stop and here is where I was slightly let down only because the drink specials were fine ($2 off select cocktails and half off beers) but no food options on special. Not a deal breaker but I was hoping to sample a couple small plates or something and instead got a full size turkey Reuben. The background music wasn't my thing, kind of a 70s light rock. Overall a good bar/restaurant but there are better happy hour options for an afternoon stop somewhere. read more

Great new spot. Came in on a Saturday night at 5 before the dinner rush, was seated right away. Can't criticize the atmosphere, it's trendy and cozy with the exposed brick and soft, low lighting. Service was friendly and fast. Our meals on this occasion were excellent. My date had the "Chitt on a Shingle," the sirloin was nicely tender, and paired well with the cream gravy and tomato on the crispy textured sourdough. My chicken and waffles were delicious. I've tried a fair amount of c&w throughout GR, Chicago, and Denver, and this dish was top 3 overall. Two large pieces of fried chicken sat, rather plainly, on the large cornbread waffle. The chicken was moist and tender with a crispy, buttery skin. Combined with squares of watermelon and hot sauce and bourbon maple syrup, the flavors all layered to satisfaction. Eh... it's okay. I'll come back if I'm walking down the street between the other bars on this strip, but I'm not sure I'd make it a destination spot. The good: it's not beer. In beer city, we have more than enough breweries, so it is nice to have a place that does liquor drinks. My Hemingway drink was tasty- it was one of their featured drinks on their menu and they seemed to nail that. I didn't have food because the kitchen was closed so I can't speak to that. The meh: I was slightly turned off by "the basic bar starter pack" decor they have going on: Edison lights-check, exposed brick-check, metal piping for shelfs-check, wood everything- check. They did have a nice heavy stone bar which gave the bar a cool focal point. Oh and another annoyance-- the second floor. I visited on a Friday night around 10-10:30pm, and my group of three visited their second floor "lounge" at the suggestion of the host. It was moderately busy downstairs so we thought the upstairs would be more chill. Well, it wasn't. The upstairs can best be summed up as "awkward". There was no music on, no bartender, and it looked like it wasn't even finished yet- they had these super cool wall of liqueur cases but they were all empty. It has potential to be a cool second floor area, like if they had a band or a DJ or at least a bartender and wait staff. But they didn't have that, so we just sat there and finished our drink and left. And here's one that bothered my friend: My friend attempted to order two different whiskeys at 10:30pm and was told they had "just ran out-like 20 minutes ago"- really??? It wasn't that busy and you don't have enough stocked for the weekend??? He got a bourbon but that interaction made him roll his eyes. read more

Here's a few things to know: -craft cocktails take time; be patient...you will NOT be disappointed. -the owners are awesome; they take time to chat with customers & made us all feel very welcomed -the flower wall is a must; take a few minutes & take your pic in front of it. -the desserts are outstanding! The chocolate PB pie was pretty much the most ridiculously amazing thing I've ever eaten. -staff knowledge: off the charts! As the name suggests, this bar has one of the best bourbon lists in west Michigan along with wine, beer, and craft cocktails. A great outdoor patio and a selection of southern inspired dishes make this a great place to eat. I originally made a reservation online for 6, we arrived and decided to wait a little longer to sit outside. Their back patio is super cute and relaxing, it was the perfect night. During our little wait we got a chance to speak to the owner who was just the sweetest. She gave us a little background of the place and you could tell how passionate she was. It was nice to see. We then got seated and each got a great drink. Man were the good. We then got some munchies and I got the Chicken Sandwich. I don't know if I was just extremely hungry, but it was great! The waitstaff was super nice and everything was quick as well, but not in a bad way. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and can't wait to enjoy more evenings outside at One Bourbon. read more

This is a great place for drinks and appetizers. I really enjoyed the atmosphere which was cozy but modern. They had a wide variety of bourbon and also other drinks as well. I ordered the French 72 and was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. It is definitely a light and refreshing drink. I also had a side of fries and the melted cheese appetizer. Came here Saturday for an early dinner with my mother & sister-in-law. I was impressed by the drink and whiskey list and underwhelmed by the food menu. There were not very many options and not many good plant based options. I ended up getting what was advertised as Lemon Asparagus Risotto, where that was the main dish, and if you wanted to pay extra, you could get shrimp or chicken added. I didn't want anything else, so I got it as is. When it came though, my plate (which I'm wishing I had a photo now) looked incomplete. There was the risotto and 4 skinny little pieces of asparagus on one half of the plate and the other half empty aside for some toasted almond slivers. It looked like I was missing half my meal and that they had severely skimped on the asparagus considering it was titled as an asparagus risotto. I asked our nice waiter for more asparagus because it didn't look like much on my plate and he brought out a nice plate of 6 better looking, very hot spears (was impressed by the speed it was cooked and brought out and how much better looking that asparagus looked). Then when we got the bill, I found I was charged $4 more dollars for the extra asparagus which I was not expecting. Since it was a nice dinner treat for my mother-in-law I just sucked it up and didn't say anything, but I was quite disappointed by that. I think the meal should be delisted on the menu as the price with shrimp or chicken and just give the customer the choice of the meat/fish rather than advertise as asparagus when you get so little. The risotto tasted great! Just don't recommend for vegetarians. read more

My wife and I went here for a quick bite. We each had a signature cocktail and they were well done. We shared the southern egg roll to start. The taste was good but I was disappointed in the lack of meat. It was pretty much nonexistent. The aioli you dipped in was amazing though. We followed that by the hot chicken. Pleasantly surprised at this lil gem. I walked in because the other Bridge Street bars had a long wait and I was damn hungry. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this place. The staff was friendly and had prompt service. The chef, who doubled as a hostess that night, came over to our table to tell us about the restaurant and to ask about our experience. All of the staff members were down to earth and genuinely cared about their bar. Drinks and food were reasonably priced- lower in fact than their other "new west side" counterparts. All in all, this place is aware of their presence in the neighborhood and backs that up with service, price, and offerings. read more

As an "old school" west-sider I'm used to blue collar, grittier establishments. One Bourbon is certainly not one of these. The menu prices tell you right away that this isn't your quaint mom and pop shot-and- a-beer joint. The prices are more in line with those chi-chi eateries in Chicago. The flight of bourbon was expensive and could have used a healthier pour in the glasses. The chicken and waffles were tough, chewy and dry. Disappointing. Perhaps we were there on an off night, but if your menu prices reflect quality fare, both in drinks and in food, you have to deliver the goods! read more

So this was my first time visiting One Bourbon, and honestly it will probably be my last. I wasn't too impressed with most of my evening here. I arrived a little after my friends had already gotten there. When I sat down, they were still waiting for their drinks. When the drinks came out, the waiter did not acknowledge at all. He handed out the drinks and then left our table. He came around after another 5-10 minutes to refill waters, and then asked what I wanted. However, I did not know that it would take 20+ minutes and telling a few other people for me to get one drink. Finally someone came over to get me my drink and some other things my friends ordered. However, this person was very touchy with one of my friends, who particularly does not like to be touched. I would warn this person to be more aware of any physical contact they make with customers, because it can make people severely uncomfortable. At one point, someone else came by to clear some silverware and plates that were on the table, but just reached across without any warning. She just walked up, reached over shoulders, grabbed the items, and left without saying anything. Overall the wait time and the customer service made this place pretty unenjoyable. I understand that it was fairly busy and crowded, but to wait over 20 minutes for one drink is pretty ridiculous. I doubt that I will visit again. read more
