Wow!! This place was fantastic! It is spring break so a quiet night but that didn't stop the owner from stopping by and welcoming us as it was our first time here. We ordered a round of drinks.. the whiskey sour is out of this world. Not usually a fan but this is amazing! The food was great! We started with hot cheese dip- we licked the bowl! I made a reservation about a week in advance on Yelp for last evening. (I love One Bourbon- great food with a good selection at the bar, so this is really a review of Yelp, NOT One Bourbon). We arrive to find that the restaurant is closed. I'd even confirmed the reservation on Yelp a few hours earlier. This is a bad business model because if I can't depend on Yelp to somehow confirm a reservation, why in the world would I use it? The food and drinks was pretty decent however the service was a little lacking I understand some places are still struggling with that. And if you're looking for a quiet conversation this is not the place it was extremely loud. We went here for my husbands birthday recently and it was truly delightful. We started the night with cheese curds and hot cheese. Both were very good and I would recommend to anyone looking for a hearty appetizer. We all had plenty of bourbon and gin drinks over the evening as well. Excellent staff and simply delicious offerings which change regularly so that they never become stale. The Staff is absolutely the BEST and the certainly know their Whiskeys and Bourbons. Strong encourage you save room for Desert. Megan (the Chef/Owner) likes to send her customers home with a smile on their face. With so many new restaurants on the West Side it is hard to imagine how things could keep getting better- except they do with One Bourbon. We had originally tried to go to butchers union but when we saw that there was a 3hr wait we decided to check out somewhere new. We came in on a Saturday night with a group of 6 people. We had a 20 minute wait and then were seated. Luckily there was space at the bar so we enjoyed some tasty bourbon cocktails while we waited. Food wise the prices here are very reasonable with options for sandwiches in the $11-15 range- and of course some heartier entrees in the $20-30 range. My wife ordered the vegetarian shepherds pie which was great! She said it was one of her favorite dishes in town of recent. I had the poutine which they did with BBQ sauce instead of gravy. It was a really fun option! One Bourbon is a great option if you are on the West Side! Make sure to get in before wait times there rival the other places on the street. read more

Wasn't as crowded this time and they had a 'new' menu...as in new font and paper, gluten free and vegan foods identified but same food items as previously. I really am wanting to like this place because I love scotch and whiskey. Their list of options for spirits is excellent and their service is wonderful. Yet, I rate on the overall experience. We went as a group and there was a lot of plate-sharing taking place, so I won't speak to any specific dish, but IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR AN EXCELLENT COCKTAIL AND AN APPROPRIATELY PAIRED MEAL, THIS IS IT. See below for my previous review. PREVIOUS REVIEW: For once, this Bridge St address may have a business that can stick around! If you are familiar with the bars that were in place at this location before, they were relatively short lived. I think One Bourbon may have resolved that by actually remodeling the entire interior to a much higher class than any of the previous owners. There is a main floor bar and seating area, a second seating area on the east side of the building, and there is another bar, seating, and lounge area upstairs. There are great accent pieces scattered throughout created by Beer City Metal Works, a local firm. Nothing is divey about One Bourbon. So the building looks great, how about the drink menu, prices, and service? -The drink menu is consistent in it's offerings of tradition cocktails made of top-shelf ingredients, as well as a whiskey list that is expansive without being overwhelming. The prices meet the market with regard to their quality and ingredients. -The service was wonderful. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Ohh I think this may be my new favorite place on the West Side! I love bourbon, and the choices are plentiful, but not overwhelming. I love that they have a separate list of Michigan made spirits. This is our first visit. We started with the hushpuppies and a cheese plate. The HP were very good, the cheese plate wasn't great but good. The service was very good and the food was served very timely. Larger water glasses might help improve service by cutting back on the number of times our waitress had to return to fill the water. They were basically a 10 ounce, tall cocktail glass. Three of my group had salads. They said the salads tasted fresh, but all three stated the dressing had no flavor. I ordered the shrimp and grits. I was hoping to find a place in the city that had a good offering. The dish flavor wasn't great, but they totally ruined the dish with the sausage oil they poured back around the dish. It had even floated back up under the grits. I get trying to have a unique presentation, but add something green. All four of us work in the food business. I had been here before for drinks, but this was my first time dining. We visited on a weeknight with a group of 6, when it wasn't very busy. It took a while for our drink order to be taken, and for those said drinks to be delivered. I had the Kentucky hot brown. Upon arrival, the fries were burnt but the sandwich was warm and bland. Other people in my party ordered the burger, Mac n cheese, veggie shepherds pie, and fried chicken. I wanted to badly to love this place! But the service was not there, on a night that seemed slow! After a nice lake day in Holland, I just wanted something filling and nearby and I've been meaning to check out this place. We actually wanted to eat at Butchers Union but the wait was 45-60min so we ended up at One Bourbon. There was no wait whatsoever and plenty of patio and indoor seating. We sat on the patio because it was so nice out but it's kind of a boring patio. A lot of white, it could really use some more decoration but hey it's a new spot. The staff was really attentive and nice which is always appreciated. We ended up getting the fried cheese curds to start off and they were pretty good even if I like my curds a little chewier. They were on the softer side but no big deal still good. Then our fried chicken and loaded Mac n Cheese came out. My girlfriend has the photo of the Mac n cheese but definitely not worth the $15 you pay for it. It had two teeny chicken nuggets on it and hardly enough Mac n cheese for $15 worth. Now the fried chicken, I got it Nashville hot and they don't play around so if you can't take heat I'd stay away. The breast piece was dry even with the fancy brine they say they do and a little hard to chew. I'd ask to sub it out if they let you. The coleslaw was warm and not refreshing and the fries were fries so there's that. Overall it's a new spot and the food is okay but I probably wouldn't go back. read more

This is one of my hands down favorite restaurants in Grand Rapids!!! The food is superb all the way from appetizers to desserts!!! My husband and I are massive bourbon fans and their drink list does not disappoint. The bar has as many bourbons as what we have seen while on the bourbon trail in Kentucky which is impressive. What is more impressive than the food and drinks (which again are amazing!!) is the staff. The servers, the bartenders are spectacular. Let's start with the Appetizers Cheese plate - very good but need more of moms bread and butter pickles. Also something spreadable for the bread. Georgia egg roll- amazingly awesome Cheese curds - so good. Right amount of breading. The main course- chicken and waffles was so good. Chicken was tender and the waffle was good. Watermelon had a little kick but I loved it. Also my wife had the not hit version and I had the hit version and both were so good Dessert- the French silk pie was to die for. I wanted a whole pie.. Service was good but the food and drink was misleading.The waiter told us upon arriving at the table that they had a christmas old fashioned and gnocchi bowl. Sounded great so we went for it. We couldn't taste anything but bourbon over ice in the old fashion.None of the spices or flavors were there as described and the gnocchi bowl was a bowl of soup with some shrimp and and about 5 pieces of undercooked gnocchi you couldn't differentiate from the cauliflower. We were in town for a mini getaway and originally planned on going to a different restaurant, but due to the hour and a half wait (with open tables visible), we left and ended up at One Bourbon. BEST. DECISION. EVER! Let me start by saying I am NOT a bourbon drinker, but my friend is. The owner Meagan came over and tried to get a feel for our likes/dislikes in terms of everyday drinks (ie. coffee/tea, red/white wine, beer, etc...) and made us drinks based on that. Man, did she hit the mark on both!!! My friend got an old fashioned (don't remember the specifics) and I got a Cherry Manhattan. I never said anything about loving cherry (I do!!!!) and she hit the nail on the head. Talk about being good at what you do/love!! She even went as far as telling me she would buy my drink if I didn't like it. Well, she didn't have to do that because I finished it! :) As far as food goes.........it was equally as phenomenal. We ordered the cheese dip (don't remember the exact name, as we were quite delirious from being in food heaven) and spicy chicken and waffles. Everything about the food was spot on. The flavors were amazing and just worked. The atmosphere was great - super laid back, everyone was friendly (patrons and staff), not even close to loud for a Friday night, etc... Tried out this place with some friends after meeting some mixed reviews and was impressed! I'm not much of a whiskey/bourbon drinker, so I opted for the blackberry thyme smash (I think that's what it was called...) with vodka. I loved it! Sweet but not overwhelming. Friends tried a mix of whiskey/bourbon drinks and liked them - they have a massive selection. We started off with some fries and loved them. Just good ol' classic fries, but a good portion and hard to beat. I ordered the vegetarian shepherds pie for dinner and loved it - had a very meaty taste from the lentils and was super filling. Friends got the BBQ poutine, gumbo, and ribs. Everything was huge portions for a good price and everyone was happy with their meal. Thought I'd give this restaurant a try after wedding dress shopping w/ my little sister. Service was prompt and waiter was pretty nice. We ordered the pickle and cheese plate. It was just that...pickles and cheese...not too impressive. I'm an avid steak fan (I eat steak at least 1-2x per week) so I ordered a New York Strip w/ cajun rub (medium) w/ grilled asparagus while the rest of the party ordered burgers. The grilled asparagus was delicious, but the steak came out rare, and 1/4 of the steak was fat. I then complained about how the steak was cooked and how 1/4 of it was fat, and was told "this is what they would consider a "medium" steak, and that the New York Strip normally has a fair amount of fat." They recooked it, and it came back a second time looking very similar to the first. So, they again recooked it. The third time it came out looking "medium", as ordered, but in all honesty, not the best steak I've ever had. The manager did assess the situation, and attempted to remedy the steak, but the longer I waited, the more frustrated I became, as the rest of the party was finished eating before my steak arrived to the table for the final time. On the other hand. I did try the Moscato and it was very good! I also tried a few drafts and my favorite was the Mule Beer. It was happy hour from 3-6, so a moscato + Mule Beer for $6 was a great deal! read more

My quest for authentic poutine lead my husband and I to One Bourbon for something delightfully called "Poutine Thursday's" - a customizable poutine with all the extras plus a beer for $10! I mean, how can you go wrong with that? I am pleased to report the poutine was good. Not great, and not even close to what this Canadian would consider authentic poutine (the gravy was furthest off the mark), but it was delicious in it's own way. We'll be back both because the drinks we had were amazing and the drink menu is deeeeeeeeep. There were many cocktails and bourbons that were left untried. The food menu also had lots of dishes that we're eager to get back and try. The back patio was really lovely on a warm summer day and the service was friendly, prompt and efficient. The drinks are amazing but the food was not. We started with the shrimp cocktail which was horrible. The shrimp tasted like frozen shrimp. We ordered the shrimp and grits and it was basically soup with some insta grits and boiled shrimp not grilled. The rice and beans was nothing great.
